    Donating rice FREE!
    2008-04-17 11:28:00
Bored? Looking for something to do to kill time? Put down that boring Minesweeper game.. Ok...So this site claims that for every word you get right, the sponsors donate 20 grains of rice to the needy.Status: SO TRUE!All you have to do is play the word game and choose the right word definition. It's that simple. No strings attatched.Who would have known this would be my next addiction...This site was created by 49 yr old John Breen, a computer programmer and it's a sister site of www.poverty.com.The rice is paid for by the advertisers whose name you see at the bottom of your vocabulary screen. The more people play on the site, the more advertising revenue is racked up, which in turn goes to the rice donating. Pretty clever huh?Fun fact:On october 2007, the first day the site was launched 830 grains of rice where donated.Within 10 days the amount of rice given away went up to 2,457,120,420.The rice is distributed by the UN (United Nations) World Food Programme which reached 87.8 million

    Health Tip: Donating Blood
    2008-04-15 06:18:00
(HealthDay News) - Donating blood is a safe and easy procedure that can help save lives. Here is information on what to expect when you donate blood, courtesy of the American Red Cross:You'll have a mini-physical exam, where your blood pressure, pulse and temperature will be checked. You also will be asked questions about your lifestyle and health. The injection site on your arm will be sterilized, then a sterile needle will be inserted. Some minor stinging or discomfort is common when the needle enters the skin. It takes about 10 minutes to collect a pint of blood. You may need to lie still for a few minutes after the donation, and have a snack or a drink. If you donate to the Red Cross, you'll be given a form with follow-up instructions and a phone number to call in case you realize that your blood may not be safe to give to another person. A small number of donors may experience dizziness, fatigue or bruising at the injection site.

    2008-04-08 06:00:41
While my blog was new I did start a contest as those were the days when running contests was like fashion for bloggers. I also floated in that wave but failed! Yes the contest was a flop and unfortunately I was able to earn ZERO publicity from that contest. But I learned a lot from [...]

    Donating Computers
    2007-05-25 15:27:25
There can be that question what to do with the old computers or the old printers. There are nonprofit associations that have needs. You benefit by getting them off your hands and clearing up space, plus you know you’re helping out a worthy cause, such as schools or other charities. For example, if you’re in the Chicagoland area, one that I’ve used on several occasions to donate too is called technology for humanity, which is run by Andy Vass out of Northbrook, Illinois. You can find out more information about it at www.technologyforhumanity.org . Conversely, if you’re on the board of a school or a charity and you’re looking for some computers, you could also put in the request on the website for the computers or the printers. As far as the computers and I just checked with Andy about this, the minimum specification is now up to a Pentium III. So regardless of where you happen to be donating to, it’s a good idea to check that out. The bar gets raised every so often i
