It was a snoozefest in the first game, but the best kind with a solid Cubs victory. If you didn't get to watch it, here's what you missed in 10 parts:
1. The Braves are terrible
2. Edmonds was the man yet again
3. Bobby Cox got thrown out for arguing about lights
4. Soto hit a bomb
5. My man Soriano almost got nailed by something named Francisley Bueno
6. Francisley Bueno almost had to die
7. Crappo Marquis smoked and mirrored his way to above .500, luckily again he was going against a terrible pitcher and team that has flat-out given up
8. Dome needs some time off...and soon
9. Howry pitched an inning and didn't give up any runs. There were then rumors about a trumpet sounding and a bearded man riding a horse down from the clouds
10. Did I mention the Braves are terrible?
Onto the nightcap... Ultimo Rich Harden, who was supposed to start last night's game, will go up against Jorge Campillo, who hasn't been half bad for the Braves this season. He's currently on a four-game winning st | | By: A League of Her Own

Yeah, yeah, I know. Unoriginal. But how many times do I get to use Mr. Cub in a game thread? If you don't like it, go to China and take the underage gymnasts with you.
So, after last night's deluge (which made me very happy I didn't make the four-hour trek down I-85), the Cubs and Braves are scheduled for a day-night doubleheader. There is a small switch however. Contrary to the sidebar, it's going to be Crappo Marquis against Charlie Morton in the day game, and then Rich Harden and Jorge Campillo tonight. Not sure when this was all changed, but I just found out. Marquis improved to 7-7, merely because the Cubs threw up a milli runs last time out. Once again, he's facing a pitcher worse than he in Morton, but the Cubs have had trouble in the past with first-time young pitchers.
Game today is on WGN, and then tonight's is on Comcast (or Fox Sports South for us in the Bible Belt-yay!). I'll have another thread up for the nightcap as sort of a recap/new thread.

The Iowa Cubs swept the doubleheader against the Albuquerque Isotopes Friday night at Principal Park, 8-6 and 7-0.
In his first start of the season, Hector Carrasco shutout the Isotopes, striking out 10 batters in six innings of work. The Cubs backed up Carrasco with stellar offense. Casey McGehee and Micah Hoffpauir each homered in the [...] | | By: The Cub Reporter

| Yanks Spilt Two Stadium Doubleheader against Mets | | 2008-06-27 13:17:00 | | (GAME 1)In what was an embarrassing game for the Yankees and their fans, the Mets blew away the Yanks 15-6 in the opener. This was the third victory in a row for the Mets against the Yanks this season. The Mets pounded out 15 runs and 14 hits in the game.ON THE MOUND: After pitching well against the Reds, Dan Giese did not have as good of a day yesterday. He lasted just four innings, allowing 6 runs on 5 hits and 4 walks. He did not have any command, and seemed to always be pitching from behind in the count (like most Yankees pitchers on the day). He deserves another start, but may be better suited as a long-reliever.Edwar Ramirez allowed 2 runs on 2 hits in his 1.2 IP. Ross Ohlendorf gave up 6 runs on 5 hits in just 1.1 innings of work. The big blast was a long grand slam off the bat of Carlos Degado into the right field bleachers which made a 7-4 game, an 11-4 game. He was optioned to AAA Scranton after the game. Latroy Hawkins followed and was also ineffective. He allowed a run on t | | By: The Evil Empire | | |

| Ponson and Giese to Start Firday's Doubleheader | | 2008-06-26 11:38:00 | | Joe Girardi made it official before last night's game against the Pirates, when he told the media that Dan Giese and Sidney Ponson will be starting this Friday's two stadium doubleheader. Giese will face Mike Pelfrey, and Ponson will face Pedro Martinez.Do these pitching match ups worry you? They certainly worry me a bit, but the Yanks didn't have many other options.

| Millwood, Gabbard Fuel Rangers Doubleheader Sweep | | 2008-04-11 01:25:13 | | Welcome back to the promised land, my friends.
The Texas Rangers’ thrilling sweep of Thursday’s day-night doubleheader against the Baltimore Orioles is significant, if not somewhat historic, on multiple fronts.
After sustaining a demoralizing 8-1 blowout loss in Tuesday afternoon’s home opener, it would have been easy for this squad, having been humiliated in front of 48,808 [...] | | By: Baseball Time in Arlington

| Heat Drop Doubleheader to Hawks | | 2008-03-08 22:07:00 | | Great night for Heat fans. Unless I am mistaken, your team is the first to ever lose two games in one night (I don't know if previous do-overs were done as doubleheaders either). The pair of losses to the Hawks puts the Heat two games ahead of the Timberwolves for the worst spot in the league.Things got worse tonight, as Marcus Banks went down, making Chris Quinn the primary option at point guard. Wade had 12 points in the first quarter (of the scheduled game) only to cool off and finish with a respectable 24.Actually, the Heat didn't play badly at all. They kept the turnovers to a minimum, made their foul shots, and had a decent night from the field. The big problem was stopping Joe Johnson, who finished with 39 points and 8 assists.Ricky Davis had a shockingly good game with 27 points and 4 boards. Tonight also marked the returns of Daequan Cook and Joel Anthony from the NBDL. That's not surprising, considering that the Heat were down to 6 players at the end of last night's blowout t | | By: State of Miami | | |

| Rangers Sweep Doubleheader Against M’s | | 2007-07-25 08:38:39 | | Excellent starting pitching? Check.
Dominant bullpen effort? Check.
Offense coming through in key situations? Check.
The Texas Rangers were absolutely brilliant on Tuesday, sweeping a day-night doubleheader from the second-place Seattle Mariners on the backs of starters John Rheinecker and Kameron Loe.
Rheinecker in particular was superb, giving up just one unearned run on six hits and a walk. He needed just 94 pitches to get through seven innings of work, while striking out four. Ron Washington seems quite impressed with Rheinecker’s outing, as he should be:
“He did an excellent job,” Rangers manager Ron Washington said. “To shut down that lineup and hold them to one unearned run, he did an exceptional job. He changed speeds, kept the ball down and threw strikes.”
T.R. Sullivan notes in his game story that the Rangers were considering optioning Rheinecker back to AAA after Game 1, and adding left-hander A.J. Murray before the start of Game 2, but that his | | By: Baseball Time in Arlington

| Rain Forces A Day/Night Doubleheader Thursday | | 2007-05-17 12:24:00 | | That's right. Two today. In the afternoon battle it will be Mike Moroth versus Julian Tavarez, and in the nightcap Chad Durbin will be pitted against our number one, Curt Schilling. It was also announced that Josh Beckett, said to be healing nicely, will miss his scheduled Friday start. We have to hope that he'll be OK to go Wednesday against the Yankees. That would be great! His replacement Friday? The name that comes up the most is Kason Gabbard. As for Monday's game, it might be Tavarez on 3 days rest, or someone called up from Pawtucket. Maybe Devern Hansack, maybe someone else. The Yankee's rotation has also been altered by rain, and they split their day/night doubleheader yesterday with the White Sox. But in a way, this rain out and subsequent day nighter could help. This is from the Thursday's Herald, and yes, it makes sense.... "The rainout could actually help the Sox, whose three-game winning streak ended with a 7-2 loss on Tuesday. Tavarez, who was originally scheduled t | | By: Peter's Red Sox Forever | | |
