The District of Columbia's released some guidelines on what the rules will be and what people will need to do before they're "granted" a license to own a gun. The District's ban on semi-automatic firearms is still there. The District is now proposing a test of 20 multiple-choice questions that will have to be correctly answered before a license is given. | Picture of the day: Drawing from Darfur. | | 2008-04-28 14:43:56 | | This picture was drawn by a young Chadian boy in a camp for displaced persons in Eastern Chad. His drawing describes the attack on his village by Janjaweed militias from Sudan. On the top left hand corner of the drawing is written ‘ataque village’ (French for ‘attack of the village’). The attackers, wearing military uniforms and on camels are shooting civilians with machine guns and burning their houses. Bullets are coming from all over. Next to each civilian that is shot is the word ‘Morts’ which is the plural of ‘dead’ in French.More posts on The Road about DarfurPicture courtesy wagingpeace.info

| Re-drawing complex schematics | | 2008-04-18 05:33:20 | | Typically, complex circuits are not arranged in nice, neat, clean schematic diagrams for us to follow. They are often drawn in such a way that makes it difficult to follow which components are in series and which are in parallel with each other. The purpose of this section is to show you a method useful for re-drawing circuit schematics in a neat and orderly fashion. Like the stage-reduction strategy for solving series-parallel combination circuits, it is a method easier demonstrated than described. Let's start with the following (convoluted) circuit diagram. Perhaps this diagram was originally drawn this way by a technician or engineer. Perhaps it was sketched as someone traced the wires and connections of a real circuit. In any case, here it is in all its ugliness: With electric circuits and circuit diagrams, the length and routing of wire connecting components in a circuit matters little. (Actually, in some AC circuits it becomes critical, and very long wire lengths can con | | By: All About Circuits | | |

| Audi A1 still on the drawing board | | 2007-10-10 10:59:00 | | Audis have a tendency to look the same but that doesn’t mean designers don’t toil for months on getting the lines of the cars just right. Case in point is the situation with the upcoming Audi A1 hatch, which is reported to be still on the drawing board despite plans for the unveiling of a concept car at this month’s Tokyo Motor Show. The problem is that officials have deemed the concept car to be too radical for production and thus no final design has been signed off. The new A1 is a small hatchback based on Volkswagen’s Polo and is being targeted at BMW’s Mini range. According to Automotive News, the A1 will begin production in Brussels at the end of 2009 and should top 100,000 units per year. Power will come from a turbocharged range of diesel and petrol engines with displacing starting at just 1.2L and moving up to 2.0L. Audi will also be showcasing a hybrid version of the A1 concept at the Tokyo show and it’s possible the mild-hybrid version could also enter produ | | By: Audi Blog. News and Reviews | | |

| Back To The Drawing Board -- Colts 38 - Broncos 20 | | 2007-10-01 20:46:28 | | What is there to say after an 18-point loss, especially when you have 223 yards rushing and give up 226? I said all last week that I was not going to be devastated if we lost to the World Champs in their building, and I'm not. If that makes me something less of a fan than those of you out there getting ready to jump ship than I guess I am. I like to think it makes me more of a realist. Don't take this as not having confidence in the Broncos, or think that I didn't swear at the television with any less vigor with each yard Joseph Addai churned out. It's the knowledge that the two teams on the field yesterday are in two different places, and what we saw was a direct result of that. We could focus on yesterday and talk specifically about what went wrong in that game, but in the whole scheme of things that loss doesn't effect us that much. Face it, the Broncos aren't going to finish 14-2 or 13-3. We have a 10 or 11 win team that if it isn't | | By: Mile High Report | | |

| 6 Tips On How To Appreciate Your Child's Drawing | | 2007-09-24 04:54:29 | | 1. One must keep in mind that a basic understanding— that pictorial representation of a figure, object or person need not be the only criteria for a beautiful work of art. In other words, the exact copying of an object or person need not be the essential evidence for a perfect masterpiece.2. Remember that your child has no intention of creatinga picture in the same sense as you, an adult. Keep V in mind too, that he is drawing or painting as a natural self expression because to him it is primarily FUN.3. Try to remember that a child maintains his particular style or characteristics throughout his work. For example, he may base most of his drawings with a peculiar circle shape that is inscribed with a dot or a dash, even a cross. This may appear again in a flower, a button, a handle or as a basic design. This is the development of STYLE. Thus it is equally important to save your child's drawings and to review them from time to time. Keep a scrap book of his work.4. | Drawing to a Close... | | 2007-08-29 19:07:00 | | The end of summer is near! I had to go change my school schedule today and it took forever... I had to wait in the sun in a line for like three hours... But I got all the courses I wanted so atleast that worked out...My mom was gone the whole day with her best friend so I had to get rides from my friends. My mom went to Melrose to eat and shop with her friend. When she came back, I was relieved to see that she didn't forget me. She stopped by Marc by Marc Jacobs on Melrose Ave. and got me a some things from the 2007 limited edition special items. She got my sister a canvas tote with the Marc by Marc Jacobs logo on it. It's the one on the left in the picture below. As for me, I've been needing a wallet for a while, so she got me a metallic copper quilted wallet. She also got me two plastic bracelets with large circle beads, in orange and green.School is starting next week, but my mom promised me she would take me to Melrose before then... And I'm also attending the Neighborhood Music Festival in downtown Los Angeles on September 29th. That should be exciting.Today's label of the day is Wren, a relatively new brand. With a mixture of vintage, elegance, quirk, and charm, Wren's clothing is for romantic "girls on the move". Head designer Melissa Coker has previously worked with Helmut Lang [one of my favorites!], Vogue, W, and Abercrombie&Fitch.Wren is available at Opening Ceremony in NYC and LA.*****UPDATE*****i just bought the Le Pliage Poodle bag from the Jeremy Scott and Longchamp collaboration. There are only a 100 available [until Jeremy Scott's winter line debuts in October with more bags] and can only be bought in Colette, Paris. So I had no choice but to get it from colette.fr and pay about $50 for shipping. But hopefully it's worth it because I am a huge Jeremy Scott fan. Here's a picture: | | By: Fashion Fleur | | |

| Arizona Student Suspended for Drawing Picture of a Gun | | 2007-08-24 19:30:32 | | Was this an overreaction? definitely. Can I understand it? definitely. To put it bluntly, these days, school officials are very frightened of anything that is related to a gun in the school and I can't say that I blame them. When I was a kid, someone in one of my classes could have drawn a picture of a gun and it wouldn't have caused an eye blink. Today, unfortunately, this is no longer the case and it is a very sad state of affairs. Given this fact, I do not think school students should be drawing pictures of guns on their assigment papers unless the subject of the assignment warrants them to do so. I am glad that The Mostellers were able to have their son's suspension reduced to a more reasonable amount of time and hopefully this will be a lesson to students in the future who feel that they can draw pictures of guns without any consequence while in a school setting.

| My Work in the First Week of Drawing Class | | 2007-07-22 07:34:51 | | The photo in this entry is Torn Up Inside. Photographed and edited by me, Lynda Walldez.
I began my art class this last Monday, the last day of the first week was on Thursday. So far I have enjoyed going to class, although the curriculum is not as interesting as I thought it would be. The teacher is not big on lecturing either, most of the time you just have to figure things out on your own. I'd be pretty lost if I didn't already know how to do certain things in drawing. Its evident that's how the newbies feel.
Here are the thumbnails of the drawings I have made so far with descriptions along with them. They are all freehand with the exception of Wednesday's drawings. Click on the thumbnails to enlarge the photo. I apologize for the picture quality, I did not have much time to photograph these pieces.

| Padres aren't drawing any aces | | 2007-07-06 18:31:00 | | Sometimes, good fortune can be way beyond your control in baseball.Take the pitchers you face in a series, for instance. If you’re playing the Florida Marlins, you don’t want to face Dontrelle Willis. If you are matched up against the Atlanta Braves, the last pitchers you want to bat against are John Smoltz and Tim Hudson. The Padres just finished playing four games against Florida and now host Atlanta in a three-game weekend series. They will end the week without having faced Willis, Smoltz or Hudson.Talk about good fortune. The Dodgers are playing the same teams this week. They did face Smoltz and Hudson earlier this week, and Willis pitches against them tonight. For one week, at least, the Padres have nothing to complain about in their luck versus that of the Dodgers concerning things you can’t control. But there is a flip side. The Padres have such an anemic offense that they make every pitcher look like Willis, Smoltz or Hudson at their best. That has to change … or else it’s | | By: San Diego Sporting | | |

| Fashion Design Drawing Lesson 1 - The Dress Form | | 2007-02-19 12:53:00 | | By James VincentA good form is the foundation for all succeeding lessons. No matter how pretty a dress or design is, if it is placed on a " dumpy " figure, it will have no style whatever. In this lesson we first learn how to draw a layout for the form. In the next lesson we dress the same form in a very simple dress.A form must have good proportion and style. A form leaning forward, or making a bow, as one might express it, is not stylish, neither is one with too large a bust and a tiny waist; nor one with high, square shoulders. This form is used for dressmaker's sketches, and for any dress to be placed on a lay figure. When the dress is on the human figure, action comes in play and a complete understanding of these lessons will enable the student to draw the human figure in a variety of positions.TO DRAW THE FORMWhen drawing the dress form place the figure in the center of the paper. This may be done by getting the proportions and measuring to see just where to begin the drawing. Leave | | By: Fashion Stylish | | |

| Drawing The Fashion Figure | | 2007-02-14 01:25:00 | | By James VincentTo draw a good fashion figure the body must first be placed under the clothes. The figure given in this lesson is not nude, but is ready for underclothes, bathing suit, dress, suit, or a coat.If you draw the complete figure carefully under every garment, you will have no trouble when drawing a bathing figure, or one in underclothes although busy artists merely sketch in the figure without finishing parts that do not show in the finished drawing. This is a saving of time for one who knows how.The dress form conforms to the shape of the human figure.Fashion figures vary as style changes, but figures seven (7) to eight (8) heads high are typical. The figure must be slim and graceful. If too stout it will not look right.Proportions of The FigureThe figure measures seven (7) to eight (8) heads high. The neck is about one-third (1/3) the width of the shoulders. The waist measures less than the shoulders. The legs join the body at the center of the figure. The knees are less than h | | By: Fashion Stylish | | |
