what's worse than drinking and driving? passing out!
    2008-07-22 08:25:00
Don't drink and drive pass out! This is the message of this post. We know how dangerous drinking and driving is. It has caused numerous deaths and injuries worldwide. However, as these photos show, passing out (completely) after a few drinks can somehow have more damaging effects to one's ego and reputation. He he. I found these pictures while in the process of cleaning out my inbox and couldn't help but laugh. I have had many booze nights myself, especially when I was younger, but never

Driving round the 5th ring road on a Sunday [video]
    2008-07-21 03:04:10
I was pretty hot and tired after walking around the Beijing Botanical Garden, so I took a taxi back to where I got on the subway. It was a long way, but traffic is usually pretty light on a Sunday and even though the subway is cheap, I like to see Beijing above ground. I [...]

Democrat Solution for the Oil Crisis? Stop Driving
    2008-07-17 20:32:33
Democrats, who were outfoxed by President Bush last week when he lifted the executive ban on offshore drilling, have been scrambling to come up with their own energy plan. And now they have. Does it call for an increase in the oil supply? No. What it does call for is Americans to cut back [...]

2008 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Ready For Driving
    2008-07-14 07:01:00
The 2008 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 has a 500-horsepower supercharged V8. You'll notice the gutteral rumble. The first 100 miles in a 2008 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 only takes about an hour.Pretty simple math to figure out how fast it goes. But it's an easy equation when you're goosing this supercharged V-8.I've tried to wrangle the GT500 before, wrestling it like a modern day cowboy breaking a bull. Its power feels raw and unbridled. But unlike a steer, I'm not sure if the GT500 will ever be broken. It's the one Mustang I would never loan to a friend. They might not be able to handle it.And therein lies the fun of getting behind the wheel of the GT500. You never know if this cruise will be your last. If any car offered fear as the standard emotion, it would have to be one with a deadly snake on its grille. The GT500 puts you to work. When you put it through the paces, driving it hard into turns, opening it up on the highway, it requires your complete attention. When you hop in this car, tu

Italian wins gay driving ban case
    2008-07-13 03:29:58
One of the reasons Hitler wasn't keen on Mussolini being an equal in warmongering was that he wan't to be trusted. The Nazis thought the Italians couldn't be trusted. In fact, it went right through the German thought process. That's why the Italians were given co-belligerent status. A euphemism for being second fiddle. As it turned out, the Allies came to pretty much the same conclusion. Italians are not a people for warfare, being that they are more attuned to internal strife. However, individual Italians can show panache, bravery, courage, all the things we think of in the battle. They can also show class. In the first Iraq conflict, an Italian officer insisted on taking his antique writing desk with him so that he could be esconced in his tent with a certain amount of comfort about him. When it comes to being an individual in modern day Italy, it is the convuluting system of brown envelopes, regulation, and general inefficiency that one confronts. Danilo Giuffrida is homosexual. In It

Test driving Vista on my old ThinkPad

    Anne Robinson banned from driving
    2008-07-10 06:21:37
The UK is in a total shambles, as Alan Sugar might say, when it comes to road safety, speed policy and driving habits. Yesterday Anne Robinson, she of the Weakest Link fame, was banned for driving under the totting up procedure. She had another speeding conviction to her name. Her lawyer, Michael McGoldrick, came up with a pretty weak link! He said she had not seen the camera as she was disorientated by the road system on her first ever visit to Portsmouth. Come on, Mr McGoldrick, everyone knows that it is 30mph within a city centre, unless it is a dual carriageway indicating 40mph or more. And in any case, does the fact that she had not seen a speed camera mean that she can speed? The whole system is ridiculous. The authorities are out to raise money by catching speeding motorists but make little or no effort to re-inforce good behaviour by placing quality, instructive road signs where they should be.I think a whole new educational approach is required. We need to get away from the raci

Is Your Website Design Driving Away Your Customers?
    2008-07-07 15:20:00
At the early days of Internet, marketer have determined that a website must strive to reach at least 5 specific goals:1. Appeal to a global market2. Operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week3. Instantly deliver its products and/or services4. Automate its back-end process5. Work within a simple interfaceEven if these goals are quite broad in scope, their essentials are what give a website the complete focus and direction that it needs to be successful. Some of those essentials include setting up a secure ordering system, providing customer support, advertising and marketing. However regardless of its level of detail; each goal of a business website must always address the needs of its target audience.Unfortunately, many online business owners are making the same mistake over and over again, they address the needs of their business instead of the needs of their potential customers, and this is but one contributor of the difficulty we all have come to experience on the Internet

eDLink Singapore - Unethical Way of Driving Web Traffic to Site
    2008-07-04 22:45:34
I received this email in my inbox and felt weird about it.I didn't register for such a service in the first place. My first thought was "Did anyone sign this up for me?"Immediately, I attempted to log in at the website. However, fortunately or unfortunately, the given username and password didn't work.A try at resetting the password shows that the username is not found.Uh Huh! Another spamming email to drive traffic to its site! The email by eDLink Singapore mimicked a registration confirmation email so that it gets readers of such emails to log on to its website to check it out. According to the spam law in Singapore, all advertising emails/SMS would need to include a in its message title. So eDLink Singapore literally found such a loophole to gain traffic for itself.I thought such unethical approach by eDLink Singapore would definitely be detrimental to its image.

Car Insurance- Paying the Penalty for Reckless Driving
    2008-07-04 13:02:13
You may not realise it but having penalty points on your license can increase your premium by 60%. On average, drivers who have points on their license pay £370 more than those with a clean license and at a time when we are trying to save money drivers are urged to drive more carefully not just for their safety but for their finances. Car insurance prices will naturally rise given the current financial climate so if there are ways of reducing the increasing costs, customers should look to take advantage of them. Simply driving carefully and sticking to speed limits can ensure you save a considerable amount of money on your premium. This is especially important when looking for young driver car insurance. Young drivers typically find it hard to find competitive prices and if they were to have penalty points on their license they could find their policies doubling in price. As young drivers pay around double on a normal policy, this means that a young driver with points could find thems

Mercedes CLK 63 AMG B/S Driving Review
    2008-07-02 07:22:00
In motoring, it goes without saying that certain things are mutually exclusive. You can't, for instance, have a low-slung sports car which works off road; you can't have a high top speed and good economy; and you can't have your dignity if you also have a small Korean hatchback. Also, despite many claims to the contrary, you can't have a car which performs well on the Nürburgring and on the ring road. Or, at least, you couldn't until now...You may imagine that the car you see in the pictures is some kind of DTM racer for the road, as hard as nails, as focussed as a laser and impossibly uncomfortable should you ever be asked to drive across, say, Keith Richards's face.It isn't. What you're looking at here is the only car I know which really does achieve the impossible. A car that could quite happily get you, and more luggage than you could imagine, actually to Beijing. But which, I suspect, could quite happily bite chunks out of a Porsche turbo's arse on a twisting and deserted piece o

News: Richard Gere driving from Hollywood to Tibet. Fiat ad upsets China.
    2008-06-26 03:49:29
This month, The Road we have Italy in the spotlight. Italy as in "the place I live in", as in "the place I love", but also as in "the place that makes me chuckle". Here is an example why: Italian car maker Fiat apologised to China for a television commercial starring US actor Richard Gere. Fiat acknowledged it "could disturb the sensibility of the Chinese people". The ad shows Gere, a long-time supporter of the Tibetan Independence Movement, drive the group's new Lancia Delta model from Hollywood to Tibet, where he and a child dressed as a Buddhist monk plunge their hands into fresh snow. The slogan that runs with the ad is "The power to be different". The Italian car maker stressed that its advertising had "never been driven by or based on political choices or by a desire to interfere with the internal political system of any country, especially the People's Republic of China". Taxi Driving and Lunch Plans
    2008-06-25 11:27:23
Would it hurt to smile when you get in the van? Say, "Hi Mom" when I interrupt my schedule to come to get you. Would it hurt to have pleasant conversation or maybe even just a "thank you" when I drop you off? Would it really kill you to do so? I have been spending hours of my days transporting children hither and yon (whatever that means) and sometimes it can be very fun. But sometimes it is just plain awful when the kids are so ungrateful and rude. The girls are the biggest offenders in this area, most likely because boys forget that they are supposed to hate their mothers.OK, enough of my whining. Here are some good things to report:1) The washer repair guy and the parts he ordered are actually both here at the same time. And that is good thing.2) Leon and JImmy have been gone several days on the missions trip and we haven't gotten any calls.3) Dominyk has been riding the bus to summer school and attending summer school without a PCA for a week and a half. Increased Travel Costs Driving Demand for Video Conferencing
    2008-06-05 09:07:41
It's no shocker that higher oil and energy prices are putting pressure on business travel. CNBC.com is reporting that these increased travel costs are beginning to reflect on the bottom line of technology companies that can provide video conferencing and collaboration products. The article reports that "Manpower has ramped up use of its video conference equipment in the last couple of months" and "office furniture maker Herman Miller has encouraged employees to use video conferencing in addition to conference calls and car-pooling to cut operating costs".Manufacturers that focus on unified communication, video conferencing and teleworking can offer businesses enhanced cost savings and increase ROI in these difficult times. However, until the recent spike in energy pricing, demand for these applications was lukewarm at best. Many IT managers looked at these features as a burden on the network and as a low priority item due to cost and difficulty to deploy.Amazingly enough, these ROI d

Twisted Trikes builds an Unidentified Driving Object
    2008-05-31 16:46:00
What happens when you take the back half of a Honda literbike and mate it to the front half of a race car? According to Twisted Trikes, you end up with an Unidentified Driving Object. Still only a prototype at this stage, the Future Plans section of the website just says coming soon. Sure, this thing does defy classification, but we'll let that slide considering its laudable power-to-weight ratio, which nearly matches that of the original Honda CBR that the engine, transmission and rear swingarm were yanked from. We suspect that the ground-hugging machine is quite the handler as well, with its rack and pinion steering, coil-over shocks and wide, sticky tires all around. Because this machine has three wheels, it is classified as a motorcycle in most any state, so it doesn't need to meet automobile safety regulations. Regardless, we spot a roll bar to go along with the racing harness and form-fitting seat. Unidentified? Perhaps. Insanely fun? Definitely.[Source: Twisted Trikes via The K

1.15 million motorist risk driving without insurance
    2008-05-30 03:14:00
by Gill Montia New research from Sainsbury’s Car Insurance indicates that 1.15 million people have driven a car in the last 12 months, with no insurance in place. According to the survey, those aged between 17 and 24 are the commonest offenders, accounting for nearly two-fifths of respondents confessing to this serious offence. The 25 to 34 year old age range also contains a significant proportion of people prepared to risk being banned from driving, with 2% of respondents admitting to... Insurance, in law and economics, is a form of risk management primarily used to hedge against the risk of a contingent loss. Insurance is defined as the equitable transfer of the risk of a loss, from one entity to another, in exchange for a premium.

    2008-05-27 07:14:00
Mercedes-Benz has redesigned the B-Class range with a focus on sustainable driving, comfort and economic efficiency.Emissions have been cut by as much as 90 per cent with the four-cylinder engine now burning up to seven per cent less fuel than previous models.Customers can choose from six different engines including two diesel and four petrol models; the direct-injection diesel units deliver 140hp and up to 300NM of torque while the petrol engines provide a peak power output of 193hp and a maximum torque of 280NM.But power is not at the expense of the environment as the diesel engines in the B 180 CDI and B 200 CDI reduce fuel consumption by as much as seven per cent while the B 180 CDI can travel over 600 miles on a single tank. The ECO start/stop technology in the B 150 and B 170 BlueEFFICIENCY petrol engine models allow fuel and emission savings in busy traffic. When stopping at lights or in traffic, the technology switches off the engine in neutral and only resumes operation when the

Eden Project, Cornwall - Ford and the Energy Saving Trust today announced a nationwide smart driving challenge to find the UK's greenest motorist. Smart driving techniques deliver environmental, financial and safety benefits through reduced fuel consumption and a smoother driving style designed to reduce wasteful acceleration and braking. 2008 Volvo XC70 AWD Driving Elegance

PICTURE in your mind this photo op: the 2008 Volvo XC70 AWD in all its rugged elegance parked on a sandy beach, the waves lapping at its 17-inch alloy wheels while the sun sets behind it on the horizon of the South China Sea. The opportunity to set up this photo op came last week, so I broached it to the Volvo representatives present. But unfortunately the beach at Puerto del Sol resort in Bolinao, Pangasinan is fenced off and therefore inaccessible to cars. But let me tell you how an XC70 ended up at a beach resort in the distant north. In the keenly competitive luxury car segment, manufacturers rack their brains for ways to demonstrate the winning qualities that justify the high prices of their products. One way is to invite the press to test-drive their latest model on a long road trip to a vacation spot outside Metro Manila. This summer, Viking Cars Inc., the authorized Volvo cars dealer, arranged a Freedom Test Drive for its all-new 2008 model XC70 AWD (all-wheel-drive) cross-count

    2008-05-15 04:09:10
Just a few months after the launch of the new 308 hatchback into the medium car segment, Peugeot now presents the SW version. The 308 SW was fi rst unveiled in the form of a concept car at last year’s Frankfurt Motor Show. It builds further on the appeal of the 307 SW and estate versions, whose attractive and innovative packaging has won over the hearts of nearly 900,000 customers in the six years since they fi rst appeared on the market. The 307 SW is a unique and original concept which combines a number of strengths such as driving enjoyment, onboard comfort and convenience, comprehensive equipment levels and good load carrying abilities. Since its launch it has been very well received by the car buying public. It has been especially successful with individuals who for practical reasons, found that a hatchback vehicle lacked a certain something and were uninspired by the design of M1 segment MPVs. A public who also required space and practicality for their leisure activities, inter

    Cape Hatteras Beach Driving Update

Since the ruling in the injunction for the Cape Hatteras National Seashore, the rules for beach driving have changed. Another recent development has expanded the buffer zone for one of the nests. It appears some vandals decided to test the resolve of the NPS. Probably was not the best idea. Adding [...]

    Driving License : Aftermath
    2008-05-13 01:27:27
Hmm, after owning a brand new Probation License, I can't help it but to try driving on my own a car, but it seems that people around me aren't letting my hands touching the steering wheel yet. Hey, I wanna try it out, to see whether I should really pass or not! Never mind that now, since, I don't feel like driving anymore. (Gee, waste of the license O.o) Haha, I'm still childish even though I had turn 18 a few days ago. XD Anyway, that is not the main point. The thing is.. I wanna drive now and determine my ability driving in real road, the ones that I didn't memorized because of the driving test. Anyway, a big thanks for those who wished me! Thanks for remembering and caring! Now that I realise, I feel kinda blank on what I should really write about. Haha :DTata XD

    Driving Lesson
    2008-05-12 19:40:00
My friend and I talked about driving lesson. She said to me, she is trying to study the driving lesson handbook. I have read it before and it is a good one to read so that you will know the rules in driving. I remember my dad did not have a driving lesson handbook and the one who taught him on how to drive is my brother in-law and he just taught for just 3 days and my dad eventually learned. I remember my dad was the one driving for about 4 hours from our place to other town and I was impressed of my dad since he knew and good in driving now. Anyhow, I called one time a company that I need somebody to teach me on how to drive and he just taught me 3 times and I learned but I can say I am not skillful yet since I do not have time to practice also my husband and I travel sometimes. What I have right now is learners permit and it will expire in year 2012 and I am not really in a hurry to get my driver license and my husband told me he is scared if I knew on how to drive and I will just dr

How not to argue when driving a hire car abroad

    MINI offers free driving lessons
    2008-05-11 08:59:00
My wife is a great driver, (of course you are, honey!) but that doesn't mean that I can't suggest improvements now and then. However, the folks at MINI know I don't like sleeping on the couch, and they're willing to take the heat on this one.On their Web site they're offering a handy "Drive Like A Pro" section full of useful tips to improve your driving. Anyone who has ever driven autocross will recognize many of them like sitting up straight, keeping things smooth, proper cornering technique and the best way to shift (again, smooth). There's even a basic heel-and-toe primer. And, thanks to the MINI's lessons, my wife now admits her husband is right that her hands should be at 9 and 3 on the wheel, not 10 and 2.She says I can get off the couch as soon as I admit her driving would improve even more if I bought her a new Clubman. I wonder how much change is under this cushion.[Source: MINI]

Are NBC’s efforts with Hulu paying off? They certainly appear to be. Car Hire Driving Around Sydney
    2008-04-27 10:09:07
Australia is a sparsely populated country, despite the fact that it has a land mass of 7.7 million km2. As a result of this, the distances between the major cities are large, with a drive from Melbourne to Sydney taking over 12 hours and Sydney to Brisbane around 10-12 hours. Hiring a car out in Sydney isn't difficult as there are a number of car hire companies located around the city. Car hire in Sydney, although easy, is not necessarily recommended for everyone. The traffic is heavy on the city roads, and parking spaces are almost impossible to find, so peak hours should be avoided at all costs if you are not a patient driver who possesses a good sense of direction. However, if you are planning on driving outside of the city or in the outback, then a car is necessary. When driving "off road" on unsealed tracks, you should first obtain local advice for your journey and always make sure that you have told a loved one or a person of authority, such as the hotel concierge, your travel pla

    Driving Traffic Using ANY Subject
    2008-04-22 00:56:00
Any subject can be used to drive traffic.  In the midwest, we recently had an earthquake.  In California, that may be a daily occurance, but in the midwest, it rarely happens, so it's big news.  All you have to do is connect the dots for the reader. I just wrote a post on my SpendingLess101.com blog about the midwest earthquake.  You are probably wondering how an earthquake could be related to spending less money.  When attempting to tie subjects together, you have to open your mind; thing broadly.  You may even need to ask some friends to give you some ideas. As I said in the title, any subject can be used to drive traffic (and, anything can be tied to anything else).  Here are some examples of tying two seemingly-unrelated subjects together: Pizza / Bubbles:  Although the .com bubble has burst, a lot of pizza companies are finding additional business through online orders. Lawn Mower / Baseball:  The LawnBoy SuperMax Mower is a rev

Drink Driving Related Accidents decreased but number of persons caught drink driving increased
    2008-04-10 22:32:00
Accordingly to Singapore Traffic Polic record, the number of drink driving-related accidents fell from 288 in 2006 to 188 in 2007, a decrease of 100 cases. The number of persons killed in drink driving-related accidents also decreased from 25 to 15. Similarly, the number of persons injured in such accidents decreased from 336 to 263 in 2007. Of these, 7 suffered serious injuries. Appended in Tables below are the number of drink driving accident cases and persons killed/injured for 2007 and 2006 respectively. The alarming thing is although there is a decrease in drink driving related accidents, but the number of persons caught drink driving increased by 7%. You might think, "So what? It's merely 7% increase!" But wait, do you know that in 2004, the figure is only 2929 and in 2005, it skyrocketed to 3641? It goes to display a consistent upward trend of persons caught drink driving. It means 2 things at least. Firstly, there are likely more checks conducted by the authority. It can also me

Taking The UK Driving test In Your Own Guide By Richard Jenkins
    2008-04-09 01:14:10
Learning to drive in the UK can be a costly affair. To obtain the skills needed to pass the driving test, practical as well as the driving theory test, the average person is looking at a bill of around 800.Most of this cost is taken up by paying for professional driving lessons. Due to this cost many learner drivers supplement paid for lessons by taking free tuition from family and friends. In fact it is not unusual for a learner driver to spend more time driving their own or a family members car than that of their driving schools . This often leads the learner to feel more confident driving their own car than that of their driving schools. Hence the increasing amount of learners who are choosing to take the practical driving test in their own cars. If this is the route you choose then be aware that you and your car will need to fulfill the following requirements. Your car must be insured for use a driving test vehicle. Not all car insurance companies will insure for this purpose. You

AAA: Driving costs increased 1.9 cents per mile in the last year
    2008-04-04 18:57:56
Every year, AAA runs a study which they refer to as "Your Driving Costs" which calculates the average costs of owning and operating the five top-selling models in three popular size classes: small, medium and large sedans. This year, the study indicates that the average cost of driving a passenger vehicle in the United States has increased 1.9 cents per mile in the last year; up to 54.1 cents per mile. High gas prices and additional taxes, among other things, have overcome the downward trend set by maintenance, full-coverage insurance and depreciation. Want to save some green? AAA suggests a pretty obvious option: consider choosing a smaller vehicle or a minivan over an SUV. The annual average cost of driving a small sedan is $6,320 per year, while a large sedan costs $9,769 per year. Your average minivan will run you $8,644 per year, compared to $10,448 for a four-wheel-drive mid-size SUV. Besides the cost savings, we'd be remiss if we didn't point out that the smaller sized car will

Kia KEE_wii Concept with... (April) Fool Proof Wireless Driving System
    2008-04-01 17:24:00
While most of us thought that we had seen the last of the poorly received KEE Concept Coupe that made its debut in Frankfurt last year, Kia announced today the introduction of a unique development of its Peter Schreyer-designed sports coupe concept - the KEE_wii. The latest upgrade to KEE involves the addition of high-tech drive system that removes the need for a steering wheel and pedalsFranz Josef-Hicks, head of the Advanced Propulsion Research Institute and Laboratory at Kia Motors New Zealand, explained; ‘We have taken inspiration from current computer gaming technology to create a completely new steering and pedal system called Dynamic On-Road Kinetics. The traditional driving controls are replaced by a small ‘controller’ which fits comfortably into two hands. Making steering motions with the small controller will turn the car in whichever direction the driver likes whilst accelerator and brakes are button operated. It is a very simple and intuitive system.’ added Mr Josef

Safe Driving - It's Your Call
    2008-04-01 13:51:38
Many of the 15 million wireless phones in Canada are used in motor vehicles. With a cell phone in the car you can call for help or report a dangerous situation; Canadians use wireless phones to call 9-1-1 over six million times annually. If you drive with a cell phone, avoid unnecessary calls and always make the driving task your top priority. Here are a few basic safety tips from the Canada Safety Council: Keep Your Hands on the Wheel.Buckle your seat-belt and place all ten fingers on the steering wheel. Wrap them firmly around it, positioned at "10 and 2 o'clock" and keep them there while you drive. Keep Your Eyes on the Road. Learn how to operate your phone without looking at it. Memorize the location of all the controls, so you can press the buttons you need without ever taking your eyes off the road. Practise Off-Road. If your phone is new, practise using it and the voice mail while your car is stopped. Practice will make you feel more comfortable - and safe - using it when you a

Car Hire Guide to Driving in Australia
    2008-04-01 09:56:16
Hiring a car and making your own way around Australia is by far the best way to fully experience and immerse yourself into the Oz environment. With your own car you can free yourself from the constraints of any schedules or set routes, leaving your holiday open to a whole host of surprises. Anyone over 18 can drive in Australia, providing they have their local licence, which if not in English, may need to be translated. To hire a car though, you need to be over 21 also; most companies may charge a little extra for those under 25. The majority of Australia's main roads are well maintained, with the average car taking you virtually anywhere in Oz. If however, you wish to explore the outback, drive on the beach or Fraser Island for instance then you're going to need a 4x4.It's important to note that Australia occupies around 5% of the world's surface, making it the 6th largest country on the planet. Combined with the fact that it's also one of the least populated countries, with 2.5 perso

An idea we can get behind for the next Earth Hour: stop driving
    2008-03-31 16:55:49
Image by Hyperactive. Licensed under Creative Commons license 2.0.Earth Day is coming up in a few weeks, but we got a glimpse of the latest in global eco-consciousness with Sunday's Earth Hour, a one hour voluntary shutdown of as many electronics as possible. Apparently, about 300,000 people around the world declared their intention to reduce their energy needs for a while and 380 cities participated as well. In Toronto, the electricity use dropped by around 9 percent for the hour. It was a fine idea, but did they have to schedule it right during the Simpsons? Our friends at Green Daily approved of Earth Hour as a good symbolic act and have a suggestion that the next Earth Hour be marked by a call to stop driving. While there are some difficulties with this idea (who's to stop you from just waiting an hour before making your drive), I'm a big fan of getting people to actively contemplate reducing dependence on gasoline-powered vehicles. Still, something tells me that, should a one-hour

Now, that man who's handling(testing, nope, it sound weird also, duh, handling also means.. duh whatever :D) me said, I had to pay him another RM 30 just to take another test on the road. And if I ever need to change the dates, in case if I didn't make it, another RM10 burned inside my wallet(technically mine, yes XD). Leeches! Leeches! Come on, RM10 just to change date? Weird system, or is it just at my driving institute? Here's a list that they cross that I did wrong (or so they thought I did wrong :D).I'm driving over the limit. Drinking and driving on the rise in Canada
    2008-03-19 14:18:09
A new poll by the Traffic Injury Research Foundation (TIRF) reveals that progress in reducing Canada’s drinking and driving problem has halted.“We’re no longer seeing a pattern of declines in drinking and driving behaviour,” says Ward Vanlaar, a research scientist for TIRF. “This is very similar to what’s occurring in other countries.” Indicators the poll used to gauge progress showed little change. However, an indicator for the percentage of Canadians who drove over the legal limit climbed to 8.2 per cent, up from 5.6 per cent in 2004. Vanlaar suspects several factors are responsible for the halted progress, but he pinpoints repeat drinking drivers as a major contributor.“Repeat drinking drivers were responsible for 6.6 million drunk-driving trips in Canada last year; that adds up to about 90 per cent of all drunk-driving activity,” says Vanlaar. “Clearly this group isn’t getting the message.”Vanlaar also suspects a lack of concern about the problem among drink
