They fight hard, grow big and taste great (in the smaller sizes) so it is little wonder they have a small, but dedicated following.The black drum gets its name from the weird sound it can produce and from its black color (obviously). J.A. has sent a mail recommending Drum of Glass by Norwegian new wave/electronica quartet Monomen and after two listens I knew exactly why he was so eager that we should listen to this. The four youngsters (the lead singer is 18 years old) have clearly been snooping around in their dads' record collections and been listening to bands like Joy Division, New Order, Depeche Mode, Devo etc. So very clearly a track that finds its inspiration in the 80's, but at the same time still manages to sound like fresh breath of air. This, one of course, is no exception. This week I asked you what your favorite TV Themes were. Some of you, like me, had to dig deep to recall what a good TV theme once was. Nowadays most shows have abandoned the old school TV theme song in favor of something shorter and sweeter. This is no doubt, in an effort to fit in more show and less fluff. The Office, for example, is a short and to the point, no frills theme that brings you right back into the thick of action before too long. Then there are what I like to refer to as the "cop out" themes. These are theme songs that are really regular songs that shows have adapted as their themes, most likely to hook people in on the song alone. The OC did it with California, One Tree Hill meanwhile uses Gavin DeGraw's I Don't Wanna Be. Ten years ago it probably got it's start with Dawson's Creek's use of Paula Cole's I Don't Wanna Wait.
