| | THE EAST COAST OF PHUKET ISLAND | | 2008-05-31 10:25:09 | | Tin mines and docks take up a lot of Phuket’s east coast, which is thus neither scenic nor swim able. East of Rawai, the sizeable offshore island of Lone Island pretects the broad sweep of Ao Chalong, where many a Chinese fortune was made from the huge quantities of tin mined in the bay. Ao Chalong tapers off eastwards into Laem Panwa, at the tip of which you’ll find the Phuket Aquarium, 10km south of Phuket town and accessible by frequent songthaews. Run by the island’s Marine Research Center, it makes a poor substitute for a day’s snorkeling, but not a bad primer for what you might see on a reef. The research center is also involved in the protection of marine turtles; there’s a hatchery on the premises, although it’s out of bounds to casual visitors. Around the other side of Laem Panwa, the island’s main port of Ao Makham is dominated by a smelting and refining plant, bordered to the north by Siray Island, just about qualifying as an island because of the narrow ca | | By: Islands and Beaches Information of Thailand | | |

| | Exotic East Coast | | 2007-11-11 08:38:00 | | After a week of fun and sun in Taiping, I returned reluctantly to the monotonous routine again. It was an important year for me as I would be sitting for my LCE (Lower Certificate of Education). I was in the 9th year of education and preparing for this major examination which would determine my future. If I fail then I would be booted from school. As a prefect, I was busy with the school activities. Usually I would miss or will be late for the first morning class. The prefects would be busy having a meeting or dealing with the late comers. But the prefect room provided me comfort to do my revision as at home I had to either sit cross legged on the floor or lie down on the mat when doing school work. At times I would spread the mat on the foot path where the street lamp provided free lighting. I didn’t go to tuition classes as I could not afford to pay for it. I lacked proper studying atmosphere and also revision books. But today as I think of these dented days, I always think of the many unfortunate students around the world who not only get poor educational facilities but also go hungry and even don’t get education at all. Growing up the way I grew up had a lot of impact on my present day life. It always reminds me of the unfortunate, gives me a deeper meaning in life and makes my life more fruitful and meaningful. As soon as I had finished my LCE, I had a long vacation. By now my uncle in Taiping had a promotion and a transfer too. He was transferred to Pasir Mas- a small sleepy town in Kota Bharu on the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia. It was a world apart from the hustle and bustle of Penang.Well, it was a fluke that I had the chance to visit this town. A few of my relatives had organised to go there but they wanted to go through the Siamese border towns of Hadyaii and Golok by train. Unfortunately, I couldn’t make it as I was holding an Indian passport which had expired. Again, it will be difficult for me to join the trip as I need a visa to go into Thail | | By: Vision, Adventures, Dreams and Life | | |

| | East Coast Road Trip Misery Loves Company | | 2007-05-17 07:00:31 | | Since beginning a trip to New York and Philadelphia last Friday, the Brewers have lost 5 of 6 and been outscored 35-28. Their win was a laugher (12-3) against the Mets, and they’ve also been on the wrong end of an ass kicking, 9-1, by the New Yorkies.
The Cubs have lost 4 of 6 with the Phillies and Mets and been outscored 33-28. One of their wins was a laugher (10-1) against the Mets, and they’ve also been on the wrong end of an ass-kicking, 8-1, by the Mets.
The big difference between the Brewers and the Cubs is that when the Brewers set off on their journey, they were 24-10 and 7 games ahead of the second place Cubs. Also, the Brewers have a slugging first baseman with a spasm-free neck.
The Cubs can only dream.

| | Life and Death on Route 95, or East Coast Sports Fans | | 2007-01-10 17:32:28 | | Last night I was channel surfing on the car radio, because I forgot to bring my cool Sirius receiver with me. I happened upon 92.3 FM, a New York station called WFNY. They refer to themselves as “Free FM.” There was a show on that the hosts kept referring to as “Ronninfess,” though I have since discovered the show is hosted by Ron Bennington and Fez Whatley. I spent about 20 minutes listening to them whine about Tiki Barber’s decision to retire from football. They accused him of deserting the city of New York, deserting his teammates when they were so close to a championship caliber team (that was a bit of a stretch on Ron and Fez’s part), and they accused Tiki of not being a man and being able to take his physical punishment in return for the big paycheck he received from playing football. They also mentioned that Sterling Sharpe had hung around the game too long, which is false, since he was forced to retire after either 6 or 7 years be | | By: The Frog Bog | | |
