| | | Easter - Why Do We Celebrate A Pagan Fertility Festival Named After A Pagan Goddess? Why Do We Not Observe Passover As Jesus Instructed Us To? | | 2008-06-24 11:25:00 | | Have you ever wondered where the word "Easter" comes from? The Britannica Encyclopedia (1934) states:“EASTER (es’ter). Ostara, or Eastre, was the goddess of Spring in the religion of the ancient Angles and Saxons. Every April a festival was celebrated in her honor. With the beginnings of Christianity, the old gods were put aside. From then on the festival was celebrated in honor of the resurrection of Christ, but was still known as Easter after the old goddess.”Why do any of us celebrate Easter?Easter "eggs" and bunny rabbits are pagan fertility symbols, and have been for centuries upon centuries. Why do we not celebrate the holiday of Passover?Passover foreshadowed the sacrifice of Jesus the Messiah.Passover was fulfilled by Jesus the Messiah. The Last Supper was a Passover meal.During the Last Supper Jesus said to do this in memory of Him.We will celebrate the Passover during the 1000 year reign of Christ (see Ezekiel 45-46).Below is a portion of an article that I found which prov | | By: Shattered Paradigm | | |

| | Game Thread: Pirates at Cubs 2:20 Easter, 1:20 Central | | 2008-05-16 11:10:02 | | After an excellent 3 games against Arizona and a good four game series against the Padres the Cubs finish this homestand with three against our favorite opponents, the Pittsburgh Pirates (or as the fans call them the best farm team in baseball)
Cubs Like the Homestead Pitching today for the Pirates, Tom Gorzelanny, who the sidebar says is 3-3 with a 5.97 ERA, but more importantly 2 of those losses, and his high ERA are due to our very own Chicago Cubs that handed him his worst 2 outings this year.
The Cubs are sending Sean Patrick Gallagher. In his first start last weekend and in 4 1/3 innings he gave up 5 hits, 4 runs and ended up with a no decision. We should continue to give him our support because as long as he's in the rotation it means that someone else is not.

| | Easter Eggs & Carrot Cake | | 2008-04-27 10:24:20 | | Today is Easter for me. At my home we usually color the eggs traditionally, but this year I decided to do it a little different (to see how we color the eggs in Serbia, visit Medena's blog, she wrote step-by-step instructions). As for the cake, after seeing Peabody's, I couldn't resist making Dorie's Carrot Cake.Bill’s Big Carrot Cakefrom Baking: From My Home to Yours by Dorie Greenspan1 1/2 cups all purpose flour1/2 cup almond flour2 tsp baking powder2 tsp baking soda2 tsp ground cinnamon3/4 tsp salt3 cups grated carrots (about 9 carrots)1 cup shredded coconut (sweetened or unsweetened)1/2 cup moist, plump golden raisins2 cups sugar1 cup canola oil4 large eggsWhisk the flours, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon and salt. In another bowl, stir together the carrots, coconut, and raisins. | | | Why Easter Date is different between Eastern and Western Sides? - Toward a common Date of Easter! | | 2008-04-26 08:50:00 | | It is known that Christian Easter Celebration Date became different between Eastern and Western Sides of the world, this difference took place in 1582, as a result of the decision made by the Western Church to start using the Gregorian Calendar -the standard calendar for much of the world- while the Eastern Church continued using the older Julian Calendar. How Easter Date is determined and the formula for Easter is the same for all sides: "The first Sunday after the first full moon on or after the vernal equinox" . and it is identical for both Western and Eastern sides, but the issue of applying it on different Calendars is resulting in different dates. This simple issue of using different calenders that is making some type of inconsistency of Easter Celebration Date, is making everyone wonder is it worth it! sure it's not! | | Happy Easter Everybody! | | 2008-04-06 05:53:57 | | I am so looking forward to the Easter break, even though the weather forecast is pretty grotty. Of course the country is going to grind to a halt tomorrow because the roads will be gridlocked, most of the railways are closed for engineering works and the airports won't be able to cope with the sheer numbers trying to get away, due to the increased security measures! So anyone with any sense will stay at home, put the TV on, their feet up and just chill. We won't even be able to get out into the garden it's going to be so cold and miserable. Typical British Easter Bank Holiday weather in fact :-) The fact that it's so early this year, the earliest since 1913 I think I heard someone say the other day, doesn't help either. The only cheery thing is that at least the spring flowers are nice and early as well. We've got the Boy Wonder (aka my 16yr old stepson) coming to stay for Easter - oh joy! | | Easter Island Tribute | | 2008-03-30 01:07:00 | | The cousins collaborated and built this snow sculpture in Kansas over the Christmas break. Mulligan and Ida, Jean, Connor, Eamon, and Eleanor I, and Keegan and Eleanor II all had a hand in it. Keegan and Eleanor II's mom is an artist and Mulligan and Ida's dad is as well, so there is art in some of the cousins' genes; and the ones that don't have it (basically my crew) are still useful as snow packers. This project was a long time coming, primarily due to lack of sculpting supplies in visits past. This was the first visit to Kansas in years where the weather has been remotely like I remember Kansas winters--cold and usually snowy. The four or five winters prior to 2007 have been snow-free and balmy enough for me to run outdoors with no jacket. I felt stupid lugging a down jacket along. Oh well, the weather got us this year. The sculpture is meant to be reminiscent of the Easter Island heads. Even though they built it at Christmas, for one thing the digital photo didn't make | | By: Tix-R-Us GeekEvents | | |

| | Easter Day with the Family | | 2008-03-23 18:30:00 | | Well its Easter eve, and I'm here gathering my thoughts of everything that happened today. My day started around 6 am this morning with a tapping on my shoulder. Mom the Easter Bunny came! Oh my, and I haven't even had my coffee yet! Needless to say, I slept in a little longer, while dad got up and helped her find all the Easter Eggs, the bunny left behind. He made coffee, and we had a simple breakfast, coffee cake :)Our next stop was going to Grandma P house for the Easter Ham we've been waiting all year for. On our way to Traverse City, we stopped in Custer and bought the 20lb ham. So the ham has already had miles on it lol. The ham was delicious. We had Anthony's scalloped corn, and potato casserole, and of course the famous croissants. Brownies for dessert. The kids all played together nice, Natalie got Easter bunny ears to wear, even I wore them for a while. Natalie was so glad to see her cousins. By the end of the day she was worn out. 'Gladly and lovingly, [God] dwells with souls that have acquired by loving meditation His Passion's grace, His Resurrection's glory. The Passion, you must understand, is as it were a harvest: all time before it led to it, the ages under sin's and death's dominion found in the cross their climax and fruition. But you must see the splendors of the Resurrection rather as flowers of the age of grace but now begun, blossoms of the new springtide of creation which, in the general resurrection at the end of time, will bear their boundless and eternal fruit. "For lo, the winter is past," says the Bride, "the rain is over and gone, the flowers have appeared in our land." By these words she would have us understand, summer has come with Him Who, loosed from out death's winter into the springtide of risen life, declares, "Behold, I made all things new." This is an intervention, people.
There's been a fair amount of . . . . ennui. . . malaise. . . even downright crankiness around these here parts lately. So this morning, let's all relax, look at the cute bunny for a spell, and try to chill out.
First, the morning headlines:
In case you missed it last night, Lou has finally decided on a lineup. And it goes like this:
Theriot
Soriano
Lee
Ramirez
Fukudome
DeRosa
Soto
Pie
Pitcher I know, it doesn't inspire much confidence in me, either. I, like many of you, don't understand Lou's man-love for Theriot that seems to pervade every aspect of his decision-making. Theriot was below league average in just about every category last season, INCLUDING OBP. So does this lineup make me angry? Of course it does.
But look. Last year at this time, we were all screaming bloody murder because Cesar Izturis was our starting SS and we all thought Theriot should get a shot. We broke camp all upset, and what happened | | By: A League of Her Own

In fact it is the most important day in the Christian calendar. It is the day when the resurrection of Jesus Christ is celebrated. The celebration of Easter however is a movable feast and the actual timing of the festival was decided at the council of Nicea in 325AD. It was decided that Easter would be celebrated on the first Sunday after the first full moon on or after the vernal equinox. Consequently Easter Sunday can arrive as early as March 22nd or as late as April 25th.The celebration of Easter had a pre-Christian origin which was the festival in honour of Eostre, the Teutonic dawn goddess, also known as the spring goddess and goddess of fertility. | | Happy Easter Sunday | | 2008-03-23 00:42:00 | | Today is the resurrection of Jesus Christ, as a Christian we celebrate it with great joy welcoming Jesus Christ back in our life again. Churches today hold Easter masses and dawn processions in observance the first meeting of Jesus and the Blessed Mary. And as a Christian, early in the morning I woke up at 3:00am my boy friend, his sister and cousin Ann is with me we join the procession at the church. The procession starts at 4:00am, many Christians join and observe over the risen Christ. In the procession there are many cute little angels singing “Alleluia Alleluia” and one of the angels lift the veil of Blessed Mary covering to her face to see her Risen Son for the first time, since His crucifixion on Good Friday. In the observance of Easter Sunday many malls also have their Easter egg hunts for the kids. And some families go to the beaches rejoicing the risen of our Savior Jesus Christ. | | Happy Easter! Buona Pasqua! | | 2008-03-21 11:17:22

| | | Getting Ready For Easter and Weigh-In Day | | 2008-03-21 06:37:00 | | Sunday is Easter and for most of us that means one thing - CANDY! As we all know, candy is bad bad bad bad especially for those of us (namely me!) who are totally addicted to anything that even sounds like jelly bean. I’m not a chocolate girl at all, but OMG, give me a bag of jelly beans and I will demolish them in minutes.
If you are looking at the basket you may think that all those chocolate Easter bunnies, jelly beans, and marshmallow chicks look cute and harmless, but watch out. The calories in these Easter “goodies” add up quick. For example:
1 chocolate covered marshmallow egg: 100 calories
25 small jellybeans: 140 calories
1 small chocolate bunny (1 ounce): 140 calories
5 Peeps: 160 calories
8 malted milk eggs: 170 calories
1 Cadbury creme egg: 170 calories
1 Cadbury caramel egg: 190 calories
1 large chocolate bunny (7 ounces) 1050 calories!!!!!!

| | How Much Sales Tax Does the Easter Bunny Pay? | | 2008-03-20 23:00:00 | | Everyone knows that the Easter Bunny delivers Easter baskets to children every year. However, much remains unknown about the mysterious rabbit: his whereabouts the rest of the year, where he purchases his supplies, the source of his funding, etc. Since we focus on taxes here at the Tax Foundation, we decided, despite the lack of reliable data, to delve into the tax angle of this story and speculate on how much the Easter Bunny pays in sales taxes. We will assume that he shops mainly at grocery stores, convenience stores, and drugstores. If he were human he would most likely not have to pay sales taxes because he would have an exemption as a nonprofit entity. However, to the best of our knowledge, no state has granted tax-exempt status to a rabbit, so we'll assume that he pays sales taxes on his purchases. We limited our analysis to one state for the sake of simplicity. We chose Iowa for two reasons. First, Iowa was home to the ridiculous pumpkin tax, which stipulated that pumpkins that | | By: Tax Policy Blog | | |

| | | What is Easter meaning to you? | | 2008-03-20 12:57:00 | | Easter is not all about bunnies, egg hunting, and parades. Easter is one of the Christian’s important Holidays particularly for modern Christians. Christians celebrate Christmas for the birth of Jesus Christ and commemorate Easter for the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. Perhaps, the meaning of Easter insures modern Christians that Jesus Christ is not just a man but He is in fact Son of God who had risen from the dead three days after his crucifixion. His victory over death and his resurrection symbolizes he is a living God and irrevocable proof of His message of eternal life. However, does Easter celebration represent true Jesus Christ’s resurrection? Or, is there another meaning that modern Christians do not know about? Easter did not always celebrate for Christ resurrection from the dead and the meaning of Easter was quite different from what Christians commemorate today. According to allaboutjesuschrist.com “the feast day of Easter was originally a pagan cele | | By: Inner Circle of Friends | | |
| | Easter IS Meaningless | | 2008-03-20 03:26:56 | | Has the 'notion of sin' been lost? - USATODAY.com A new survey by Ellison Research in Phoenix finds 87% of U.S. adults believe in the existence of sin, which is defined as "something that is almost always considered wrong, particularly from a religious or moral perspective."The trouble here is not that people are out of touch with sin, but that sin is out of touch with people. I think in the modern world Christians and non-Christians are starting to understand something that many who have researched this thoroughly have understood for a while. There are very few universal truths in the world.I often get pretty heavy push back when I tell people that morality is a wast of time, and that there is no true right and wrong. I got into this one night at the pub, and everyone at the table starting arguing with me at once. So i asked the simple question, "Is murder wrong?" It seems so simple, and honestly everyone at the table answered yes, of course. But when I asked them to define mur | | By: Markism Explored | | |
| | Easter Eggs | | 2008-03-19 23:08:00 | | Easter resembles Christmas in that it is a most sacred holiday which has been associated with secular symbolism, the purpose of which is to get people to celebrate it. Of course, the modern motivation is to sell candy. Yes, when the church established an Easter celebration, pagan rites of spring and the earth's renewal became intertwined with the religious celebration, and has been ever since. What could symbolize spring and renewal better than an egg? Maybe cute baby animals, of which there are plenty in Easter symbolism. Of course, this year Easter is so early, you may be hiding your eggs in the snow! Peep Jousting Peeps are a joke in themselves. They are supposed to be some kind of candy, but they never seemed soft or tasty enough for me to consider them anything but decoration. Human ingenuity has found many other uses for peeps! Heaps of Peeps. How people use Peeps to illustrate ...almost anything. | | By: Miss Cellania | | |
