| | Total Solar Eclipse, Foxes & The Navi Sheker | | 2008-07-27 11:16:00 | | כ"ד תמוז התשס"חFaunus 26A total solar eclipse is observed this friday August 1 in parallel with Lughnasadh (the witches' new moon sun sabbat).A solar eclipse occurs when the new moon passes between the sun and the earth. A solar eclipse can only happen with a new moon, and when the moon and sun are in conjunction with respect to their positions in relationship with the earth. The judge Shimshon (Samson) has parallels in Torah to both the sun (shemesh) and to foxes. A nazarite of the Divine (one who has taken a vow of self-consecration to the Divine for a designated period of time), Shimshon uses foxes in an attempt to destroy the Philistines. In the end, Shimshon himself is destroyed. How do the Shimshon parallels parallel with the events of this week?First, on friday there occurs a total solar eclipse of the sun, where the sun is linked to the name of Shimshon. Thus, the sun's masculine power will be eclipsed by the feminine power of the moon.Second, Foxnews reports on a rece... | | By: Walking On Fire | | |

| | Eclipse Part 10: Meteorite | | 2008-01-28 21:44:00 | | How long had it been since he had seen another human being? How long since he had talked to anyone but his own reflection? How long since he’d seen the speck of reflected light in front of him, directly in front of him, and waved his arm ineffectively against the ether to see the speck blink in and out and realized that the star was behind him, and he was casting a shadow on the speck, which was reflecting the star’s light back when he was not interfering by waving his arm.How big was it?How far away was it?Very far and large? Or very small and near?Claudius had not started out alone and scared. He fought those feelings now.He stared at the growing rock in front of him and recognized it for what it was, almost… almost…It shifted and then shifted back, blinking in and out and he went to rub his eyes, actually raised his gloved hand up to his visor to rub his eyes because he could not believe what he saw, and then his glove hit his visor, and he laughed. He laughed out loud. He laug... | | By: Under The Eyes Of God | | |
| | Eclipse Part Nine: Acceleration is fundamentally indistinguishable from a gravitational field | | 2008-01-26 10:02:00 | | Claudius lay on his back, immobile. Dreaming. He dreamed that he was working. He was pushing a lawnmower, sweating. It was hot. The air was still and thick as he pushed through it. The lawnmower roared. He sweated and rubbed his forehead. He pushed through more thick grass, looking at the house that he was mowing in front of. He wondered if someone was moving around in there. He wondered if they had air conditioning. He rubbed his forehead more and more, pressing harder and harder. It grew tender. He opened his eyes. Something was wrong with that dream. He was in a small room. He could tell that simply by moving his head, as he lay on his back, and looking at the contours of the room. His head would not move far. It felt to him as though he was collared in. His vision was circumscribed, as though wearing a helmet. He tried to move himself but could not do so; he felt numb. He looked at the dim walls around him. He looked at the ceiling. He was resting on something, wasn’t he? He tried t... | | By: Under The Eyes Of God | | |
| | Eclipse Part Eight: Did They Get You To Trade Your Heroes For Ghosts? | | 2008-01-20 14:02:00 | | “Please, allow me to introduce myself,” the man in the Sport Jacket said as he walked around his Desk, hand outheld in greeting. Claudius stuck out his own hand, just a little too late and they both knew it. Claudius winced, inwardly, and wondered why he’d never mastered that, why he could not interact with People smoothly, the way everyone else did it. All around him were People who understood that when you first meet someone, you put out your Hand to shake, and did it. He was, always had been, just a little slow on that.“You don’t need to do that,” he said to the man. He looked at the Nameplate on the Desk. “I know who you are, Doctor, and I should, shouldn’t I?”The doctor chuckled, a little, and nodded, saying “I’m a man of wealth, and taste. I’ve been around for a long, long year.” He gestured around the office, luxuriously appointed and full of books and files and diplomas. Claudius nodded. He could see that. They stood there, awkwardly, for a moment. Clau... | | By: Under The Eyes Of God | | |
| | Eclipse Part Seven: Rock | | 2008-01-12 23:23:00 | | This is part seven of Eclipse. Click here to see parts 1-6, which you should read first. If you go fast enough, you never fall back.He wondered how fast he was moving. The speck was larger now, a rock ahead of him, he thought. Maybe a planet? Could it be a planet? Would he be the first man to walk on another planet? He smiled at the thought. He would not walk on this planet. Whatever happened, however fast he was going, if he got caught by this planet, if his path was doomed to intersect it’s path (and doomed was the word) then he would never walk on the planet because he would either burn up entering its atmosphere or would be disintegrated when he hit its surface. If it was a gas planet, would he burn up?Could it be a planet, coming straight at him? Planets orbited the sun in circular motions, and his rocket had been diving towards the sun. When he ejected, when he used the momentum of the rocket and his ejection and the sun’s gravity itself to spring himself free of the sun’s pull, he had been heading straight, on a tangent to the sun, which meant he was on a tangent to all the orbits of all the planets. A planet should be coming at him from his side, one side or the other. He was sure that the sun was behind him, sure because it was nowhere else in his field of view and it would be if it were not directly behind him. He was running away from the surface of the sun.A terrible thought struck him: what if he had not been going fast enough to get away? What if he only thought he had escaped the sun’s pull, only thought he had avoided a fiery death, only thought that he was free of the constraints … of gravity… and only thought he was moving out into the universe? What if he was falling backwards into the flame? The rocket had been moving so fast, and he had been carried along with it, moving at the same velocity as the rocket, because he was inside it, and then he had ejected, which had made him go faster than the rocket, he had seen the light, coming at h... | | By: Under The Eyes Of God | | |
| | | Eclipse Part Five: Angular momentum is conserved (in the absence of an outside force). | | 2007-11-24 22:43:00 | | Model Rockets have solid fuel. The Engines for a model rocket are cardboard tubes filled with powder that combusts and sends the heat and energy blasting down to launch the rocket up into the air. They do not have the Power to launch the model Rocket into space. Model Rockets always fall back to Earth, and generally land close to where they started.Claudius started model Rocketry using kits. The smallest Rockets were cardboard tubes and balsa-wood popsicle sticks, small plastic nose cones that were attached by elastic and had a flimsy plastic Parachute inside. He never understood how the Process worked that sprung the nosecone free, could not figure out the mechanism that allowed the Rocket to land safely even though no conscious intelligence guided it. The Rocket would launch, and at apogee, the nose cone popped out and the Parachute (hopefully) opened and the rocket drifted back down. He would track it, walking along Neighborhood Streets keeping his eyes up, following line-of-sight when it dropped below the level of the houses. Some of the Neighbors knew him, others didn’t. Sometimes he would be yelled at for being in their Backyards. Sometimes an elderly Man or Woman gardening would be looking at the Rocket, puzzled, sure that this was not otherworldly, was not alien, this smoking cardboard obviously-toy Thing that had dropped down.Or almost sure, Claudius thought, because he could see them when he walked up, when he explained, briefly: “Model Rocket,” and they nodded. Most of the time, he would see their chest heave a little; they were taking a deep breath. Oh well okay that’s what it is which meant that they thought, for even a second, somewhere deep inside, that it might be from Space. Then he moved on from kits, designing his own. He grew bored with kits; he wanted a Rocket that he had thought up from start to finish, one that was entirely his own. He saved his Money, hiding from Dad how much he made at his Job landscaping on the weekends. He went a... | | By: Under The Eyes Of God | | |
| | Eclipse Part Four: Dot | | 2007-11-16 20:58:00 | | Claudius looked at the dot ahead of him. He waved at it. It blinked back. It didn’t look like the stars. He wondered if it was moving towards him as he moved towards it.The dot was the only thing he could see. If he waved his arm, he could make it blink. He made it blink in Morse code, the only Morse code he knew: quick quick quick slow slow slow quick quick quick. Dot dot dot dash dash dash dot dot dot. Everyone knew that one.* * * * *There was blood on his hands. And a siren was blaring. He looked down at his hands. Blood. Blood blood blood his mind screamed it at him over and over, trying, it seemed, to make it seem a meaningless syllable, a word that had no power and was ridiculous, ridiculous through repetition. His hands were sticky and his fingers slippery with blood. Stringy bits of . . . something . . . flesh. . . clung to them.He slowly looked up, becoming aware of the siren and also a whine and a beeping and a loud tearing sound. He licked his lips. Blood blood blood. There was the siren, a whirring clarion call piercing through the chant of blood blood blood his mind kept up. He stared around, eyes watering for not having blinked in so long. The siren kept going off, cutting through and sinking in where his reflexes lived. Danger.Blood blood bloodDangerBlood blood bloodDangerHis head turned towards the control panel a few feet away. There was not much room in the ship. Space was at a premium. His mind whirled on that thought. Space is at a premium in space. When you go into space, you cannot take up much space. A part of him knew that he had to focus. Another part of him could not because, this second part thought, focusing would require him to think about what had just happened. He stared at the control panel. There were gauges that were in the red, were at their utmost limit. There were lights that no longer blinked, they were steady and red. A lot of red light.Blood blood bloodDangerHe sat in the pilot’s chair, his chair, the command chair. His eyes ... | | By: Under The Eyes Of God | | |

| | Eclipse part 3: Absolute Magnitude Is Not The Same As Apparent Magnitude. | | 2007-11-05 12:54:00 | | Claudius walked down the corridor and wondered when things had changed. As a boy, he’d watched the astronauts and NASA and thrilled to the sight of their heroics, cleancut men and women in gleaming white spacesuits and rockets so tall and clean and shiny that you could almost see your reflection in them. He had seen the first space station, silver and white and bright and smooth. Space, then, and space exploration, had been clean. That was the word that he always came back to: clean. Neat. Spotless. Now he looked around the hallway he strode through and wondered when NASA had stopped being so clean, so neat, so spotless. He had wanted to become an astronaut, go to work for NASA, in part because of the tidy order that world represented. He had never been into space. He likely never would go into space. But he worked for NASA, and he worked in this… there was no other word for it, grimy hospital, he spent too much time here.He spent all his time here.He hoped to get out of here before 4 p.m. local time today. There would be an eclipse of the sun today and he wanted to see it, wanted to carefully peek at it from the corner of his eye and watch as the moon crept fully across the sun so that he could see the corona. You were never supposed to look at an eclipse, he’d been told when he was younger. You’ll go blind, he’d been told. Then, in graduate school, sent there by NASA, he’d learned just the opposite. His instructor had told him: It takes three bodies to make an eclipse. He’d waited. The whole class had waited. He turned left in the hospital now, almost to the locked ward, and tried to remember some of his classmates. He should look them up. It had been too long: he could not picture them offhand. He’d really lost touch. When nobody in the class had said anything, the instructor had looked at Claudius. “Explain that, Claudius” the professor had said. The instructor did not need to look at his chart to know this student's name. Claudius thought about ... | | By: Under The Eyes Of God | | |
| | Eclipse Part Two: You Always Remember Your First Time | | 2007-10-28 10:13:00 | | Claudius saw the face of God in the stars, and he saw the stars when he was in Punishment.Punishment was never easy. It was unpredictable in how it would come, when it would come, and why it would come. But Punishment always came.It was also unpredictable, how long he would stay in Punishment. Sometimes it was minutes, seconds, even, if Punishment was swift and physical, a punch in the stomach. Sometimes it was longer, when Punishment had him standing in a corner holding a cinder block over his head and looking over his shoulder to see if his quivering arms would be noticed and cause for more Punishment. Sometimes Punishment seemed like it lasted a lifetime. In the future, as he drifted, Claudius would look at the speck-grown-to-dot and think it… ironic? … that he had begun this by seeing the stars, but would end it without seeing them at all. With the sun behind him, its light blotted out the stars and ahead of him was nothing but blackness, so uniform and implacable that it might have been two dimensional. What would keep it from seeming two dimensional to Claudius, of course, was that he would, years from now, be hurtling through it like a particle of light, not nearly as fast, but faster than any man had ever traveled before and faster than any man would travel again. Claudius would not know that his speed through the cosmos would be very nearly the same as the speed of an electrical impulse along a neuron.Punishment came the first time after he threw up just before They went out for Dinner. The Babysitter was there. Mom and Dad were Dressed Up. They were Meeting Friends. And Claudius was sitting at the top of the stairs watching the comings and goings, the Babysitter getting her Note with Important Phone Numbers, Mom and Dad telling her what was in the Refrigerator and when Bedtime for him was. Mom came up to him and kissed the top of his head. She picked him up and brought him downstairs, a load to carry because he was five years old.“You remember Jenna, ... | | By: Under The Eyes Of God | | |

| | Eclipse, Part 1: Speck. | | 2007-10-24 08:45:00 | | How long had it been since he had seen another human being? How long since he had talked to anyone but his own reflection? How long since he’d seen the speck of reflected light in front of him, directly in front of him, and waved his arm ineffectively against the ether to see the speck blink in and out and realized that the star was behind him, and he was casting a shadow on the speck, which was reflecting the star’s light back when he was not interfering by waving his arm.How big was it?How far away was it?Very far and large? Or very small and near? Were there people? He was moving, he estimated, at several thousand miles per hour. A pace that was unimaginable for most of human history, and yet he had achieved that velocity and it was still an infinitesimally slow crawl across the universe while he waited for God.Maybe the speck was God.Very far away and large, it could be God.His journey had not begun so unprotected, so alone, so vulnerable. He had not started out shielded from the vast empty universe by only a thin layer of polymers and plastic. He had sat nestled in a seat that cradled him, that increased its softness as he pressed against it, that cupped him like a loving hand while gravity seemed to increase around him as his rocket had taken off, a seat that had arm rests to which his arms had been strapped to avoid them being flung down helplessly at his sides, armrests that were motorized to help him reach the controls that he must operate during the takeoff, must work during the 17 minutes that he would be subjected to five six seven times the usual gravity so that he could leave the atmosphere of the only world he had ever known and sling himself around that world and generate enough speed to zoom across the solar system until he was farther away from that planet than any human being had ever been before, to tilt towards the sun that he had spent his life circling around at a safe distance, this time to lean towards it and use it to pull him faster faster... | | By: Under The Eyes Of God | | |

Eclipse de sol
Limeños no podrán apreciarlo

| | Don't write code - use Eclipse | | 2007-07-04 08:20:04 | | Eclipse IDE provides multiple functionalities which can help you when you are coding. The functionalities what I am talking about are typically very small and easy to use actions such as Content Assistant, Quick Fix, Refactoring and other code manipulations. Usage of those features can improve speed and quality of your coding. In this article and also in the other articles under label coding tips I would like to describe usage of those features in the way where you will write as little code as possible and the rest of code will be generated by Eclipse.Let start with very simple example - assignment of new instance of StringBuffer class to the local variable or to the field. So what we want to have at the and will be something like:StringBuffer buffer = new StringBuffer();Steps:write keyword 'new'write 'S' and push Ctrl+Space (shortcut for Content Assistant)you can see list of classes, interfaces and templates starting with 'S'you can specify more accurately the name of requested cl... | | By: Daily Development | | |

| | Shooting the eclipse | | 2007-03-04 11:00:13 | | What a show was yesterday night’s total Moon eclipse! The air was as clear as a crisp winter night can be, so I headed out of town with a friend, we mounted our tripods in the countryside and spent a couple hours shooting at the moon with our cameras.
Thanks to my long zoom, I could fill a decent portion of the frame with the moon and got some nice shots. Unfortunately, as the umbra of the Earth started covering more and more of the Moon, which was getting more and more dark and reddish in color, two factors contributed to make the pictures of the totality phase less then appealing.
The first problem is that my camera is very bad when it comes to focusing in low light conditions. Fortunately, I had manual focus on and set it when the moon was still bright enough, so I could have still saved most of them, but in the dark I didn’t realize that humidity was condensing on the lens as the night grew colder. I wasn’t aware of this until this morning, when I saw this particu... | | By: Agylen
| | Total Lunar Eclipse of March 3rd | | 2007-03-03 15:00:00 | | If you're reading this shortly after I post it, you might want to get away from your computer and look at the night sky.Tonight's Lunar Eclipse is unique in that it will be partly visible from every continent in the world. The entire event will be visible from Europe, Africa and western Asia.At the moment of greatest eclipse (23:21 UT), the Moon will lie in the zenith for observers in Nigeria and CameroonIn eastern Asia, moonset occurs during various stages of the eclipse. The Moon sets while in total eclipse from central China and southeast Asia.Western Australia catches part of the initial partial phases but the Moon sets before totality.Observers in eastern North and South America will find the Moon already partially or totality eclipsed at moonrise. From western North America, only the final penumbral phases are visible.Timetable in Universal Time (UT)Penumbral Eclipse Begins: 20:18:11 UTPartial Eclipse Begins: 21:30:22 UTTotal Eclipse Begins: 22:44:13 UTGreatest Eclipse: 23:20:56 UTTotal Eclipse Ends: 23:57:37 UTPartial Eclipse Ends: 01:11:28 UTPenumbral Eclipse Ends: 02:23:44 UTUniversal Time is the astronomically derived time system referred to as Greenwich Mean Time or GMT.Lunar Eclipse For Beginners:An eclipse of the Moon (or lunar eclipse) can only occur at Full Moon, and only if the Moon passes through some portion of the Earth's shadow. These events are quite striking for the vibrant range of colors the Moon can take on during the total phase.Lunar Eclipse Photography:Unlike eclipses of the Sun, eclipses of the Moon are perfectly safe to watch with the naked eye.Solar Eclipses:Where to go to catch a total solar eclipse, or find out if one is heading in your direction, between now and the year 2020.Lunar Eclipse March 3rdWhile we have bad cloud cover here, I'll scour the web to see if we can find some nice photos of the eclipse.Katie from Cambridgeshire viewed the moon at 21.15 (during the penumberal eclipse), through her scope and camera.
