Campaigning at Permatang Pauh for both political rivals, the evil Barisan Nasional (BN) and Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) has officially ended. While baby Clarisse was taking an afternoon nap, a long one too at 2 and a half hours, I managed to catch up on quite a lot of news about the mother-of-all-election although my husband [...]

Quirky rules about the Presidential Election might surprise you—in fact, they will surprise you
    2008-08-22 20:40:00
There are some really quirky laws governing a Presidential Election. For instance, did you know that if a president-elect dies before he's sworn in, but after Congress certifies an election that the vice president-elect would become the president? Or, did you know if a Puerto Rican person lives on the mainland [or Hawaii or Alaska], he or she can vote in the Presidential Election—but if that same person's established residency was on the Island of Puerto Rico, he or she can't vote in the regular election?  There are tons of other instances like this one—and thanks to the good people of MSNBC, a lot of strange questions are answered about the election. This is one you'll definitely want to read—you're bound to learn something new. Click here for more.

Permatang Pauh Election; Anwar verses Arif Shah Omar
    2008-08-14 06:00:00
In the run-up to the by-election of Permatang Pauh, the ruling Barisan Nasional has announced its candidate to face-off defacto opposition leader Anwar there. But according to the candidate Arif Shah Omar who said he was just as surprised as everyone else when his name was announced. Arif Shah was not hailed from UMNO division in Permatang Pauh, as this may cause displeasure for members who have been working the ground there in past years to find a candidate being parachuted there. Obama’s Election Poses Danger to the World
    2008-07-25 16:07:48
While Senator Barack Obama has been benefiting from his opposition to the unpopular war in Iraq and winning kudos for wanting to unconditionally talk with America’s enemies, he has also been sounding more and more hawkish on Pakistan, a US ally. This aggressive stance by Mr. Obama raises some big questions: Is he going to [...]

Bugs Me Election Coverage of Saying Woman will Vote for a Woman Candidate, African Americans will Vote for African American Candidate, Voters

Television election coverage with all the experts that think they know it all some do and some are full of it. What is bugging me is this talk about because we have a woman candidate for president. I will automatically vote for her because she is a woman. In addition with an African American candidate for president means African Americans will automatically vote for him. I don’t like that when the news people on the television say that it is almost insult in my opinion. That because I am a wo

Voting System Error Filled, Vote Election 2008 Issues Politics, Machines, Technology, People, Every State Should Have Same Votes Methods

What I cant figure out one of the most important things in the United States is voting. But not every state has the same voting method. The voting system is very error filled with problems by way of machines, technology, paper ballots and people. All the problems with the last elections that democrats and republicans would want come up with some kind of solution but they have not. It does worry me with authenticity of the outcome of the vote. Election Polled in the Polling Polls with the Poll Opinion Predicts a Candidate Winning Before the Vote has Taken Place with My Thoughts Politics
    2008-07-02 19:46:16
So much talk in politics today in the news about public opinion polls being wrong. A poll predicts a certain candidate winning before the vote has taken place. This time it did not turned the way it was polled in the polling polls that is very interesting. I hate polls I think they are dangerous and influential to voters they should not even be done. I do think polls do influence people on how to vote. Like thinking a certain candidate is ahead in a poll so I don’t need to vote at all. The po

How Obama Can Lose the Election
    2008-06-28 21:34:00
Voters' trust is the single most valuable commodity any politician can have. Trust is what prompts voters to donate their hard earned cash to a candidate's campaign, give a candidate hours of their precious time by working at a phone bank or voter registration drive, and win their support at the ballot box. But once this trust has been lost, it is impossible to get it back. A politician who displays sufficient contrition or humility might be able to recover some of the trust that was lost, but the bond will never be as strong as it once was.Earning voters' trust has been Barack Obama's main strength, as he has successfully tapped into the hearts of millions of voters who want to believe that he can usher in a new chapter of American history that is brighter than what characterizes the nation today. This trust is manifested in millions of small-dollar campaign contributions, viral videos on YouTube and Facebook, and record-breaking attendance at his campaign events.Having defeated a

Ad Wars: Obama's First General Election Ad
    2008-06-21 14:15:37
Check out our entire video library at Political Realm TV.Presidential Watch: Barack ObamaThe Obama team has launched their general election ad campaign, airing "Country I Love" in 18 states across the country. The nature of that buy illuminates the campaign's strategy and their massive fundraising advantage over John McCain. The ad will air in a number of traditional battlegrounds (Florida, Iowa, Michigan, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin), some emerging battlegrounds (Colorado, Nevada, Virginia), a few Southern states Obama hopes to put in play with increased black turnout and the help of Libertarian candidate Bob Barr (Georgia and North Carolina), but the ad will also run in deep red country. Indiana hasn't voted for a Democrat since 1964. Same with Alaska and North Dakota. President Bush won Montana by 20 points in both of his runs. Voters in all four of those states, however, will find Obama on their televisions. The breadth of the buy w

I am proud of what the democrats are doing with being so historic with these two candidates with Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. However, the candidate that I am going to endorse is Barack Obama because I want change. I think he would be more electable than her when it comes in November. I talked to people about this most of them would vote for him. I rather have democrat that can beat the republicans in the race I think h

November Election Provides Unique Opportunity for Tax Reform
    2008-06-04 23:00:00
Tax Foundation President Scott Hodge recently published an article in the Heartland Institute's Budget & Tax News on the opportunity for federal tax reform during the next administration—regardless of who wins. The article outlines five basic steps to politically realistic tax reform:For the first time since 1986, the stars may be aligning for a grand bipartisan compromise on fundamental federal tax reform.Regardless of who wins in November, the next president and Congress will have to deal with the collision of two cataclysmic tax events: The 2011 expiration of the Bush tax cuts and the growing irritation of the Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT).The seeds for compromise lie in the fact that both sides have something to gain by addressing these problems at once. Naturally, Republicans want to avert the largest tax hike in history by maintaining the lower tax rates on income, capital gains, dividends, and married families with children. Meanwhile, Democrats will be brought to the

    Election Year
    2008-06-03 02:01:30
Senate Opens Debate on Politically Risky Bill Addressing Global Warming - NYTimes.com“There’s a great feeling all across America by people in small villages and towns to large cities to state legislatures and others: we must move and move now,” Senator John W. Warner, Republican of Virginia and a co-sponsor of the bill, said as debate opened on the floor. “Do something. Doing nothing is not an option. Let us do something.”I Have to admit that I'm glad to see the Senate stepping up. Perhaps it's because the president's numbers are in the toilet, or perhaps it's because it's an election year, but I'm glad to see them doing something.I'd really like to see more details on the bill. I'm a big fan of cap-and-trade programs for carbon emissions. It gives high carbon producers both a way to stay in the business, but also incentive to change. It also provides money for reinvestment in alternative energy programs.I'm a little curious about the treatment of foreign countries. I li

The Future of Solar Power Technologies is Very Bright, after US election
    2008-05-22 16:30:59
Scientist Arthur Nozik, of the National Renewable Energy Lab, Golden, Colorado is researching a phenomenon called Quantum Dots, which could revolutionary improve efficiency rates of solar cells. New solar power photovoltaic technologies developed on the principle of Quantum dots could dramatically lower the price of solar cells by using only a fraction of previously used expensive semiconductors. We could also add some additional positive facts to already mentioned much lower production price and much higher efficiency rate:- a massive production of solar cells and their products (solar panels, solar shingles-tiles) could additionaly lower the cost of solar photovoltaics devices- tax rebates- other financial incentivesSadly, all this could happen only after the Presidential election, because of the very strong opposition from US government and the White House. The future of solar powered roofs is very bright, under the new President.

The result of the election: the victory for democracy and defeat for separatist terrorism
    2008-05-13 08:57:06
The long march of democracy in Eastern province started with the liberation of Mavillaru sluice gate from LTTE and restoring the supply of water for the innocent farmers in the area. It was a time when LTTE artillery were even targeting Tricomalee town and strategic Navy camp as a result of shameful CFA signed by UNP leader Ranil Wickramasingha and Prabakaran. The monks of JHU timely influenced the government to take speedy action at a time when new UPFA government seemed to be trapped with the CFA signed by previous UNP leadership. The success of Mavillaru operation not only prevented another attempt of LTTE to chase away Sinhala and Muslim farming community from Eastern province, but also mark the beginning or new democratic era in Eastern province.DemilitarizationIt was clear military and political leadership that resulted in those limited military operations to continue until whole Eastern province is liberated and LTTE terrorists are chased away. Check out more videos at Political Realm TV.John McCainHe may not have an opponent yet, but McCain's campaign began advertising for general election this week. The ad concludes with: "John McCain: The American president Americans have been waiting for."Barack ObamaObama's latest Pennsylvania ad, "Nothing's Changed," focuses on energy independence. Obama's 2006 Tax Return: $22,500 to Trinity U.C.C., Doesn't Check Election Box
    2008-03-24 23:00:00
Barack Obama has released his 2006 tax return, largely as a political maneuver to highlight the fact that his opponent, Hillary Clinton, has yet to release her return. Tax returns are always fun to look at for tax geeks like us. In fact, because the federal tax code is involved in so many facets of our lives (housing, what car you drive, children, churches, etc.), one can find out a lot of information about a person by looking at his/her tax return. That's also why many companies have sought out tax returns for marketing purposes. Here are some highlights from Obama's 2006 tax return:Barack Obama gave $22,500 to Trinity United Church of Christ, which is the church that has stirred some controversy in recent weeks given the videos that have been released of its former pastor Jeremiah WrightOverall, Obama and his wife gave to charity more than what is typical for a high-income tax return like theirs. Specifically, according to 2005 IRS statistics, those tax returns in

Taiwan Pro-Independence Party Loses Election, Referendum
    2008-03-22 11:19:01
BBC: Opposition’s Ma wins Taiwan pollBackgroundMa Ying-jeou of the Kuomintag party won Taiwan presidential elections, 16% higher than his nearest rival, Frank Hsieh of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party. A referendum on whether Taiwan, officially the Republic of China, should join the United Nations under the name of Taiwan was conducted along with the presidential vote. The referendum failed because enough voters did participate, although a clear majority of those who voted were in favor. The opposition boycotted the referendum, and the United States did not support the referendum. The Kuomintag party (KMT, translated as Chinese Nationalist Party), is part of the Pan-Blue coalition of Taiwanese political parties that supports eventual reunification with the People’s Republic of China (PRC). KMT has been forced to tone down their rhetoric, and has been advocating the status quo: the People’s Republic of China being the official internationally recognized China, while Taiwan

McCain fears al Qaeda might try to tip U.S. election
    2008-03-17 06:54:21
McCain, at a town hall meeting in this Philadelphia suburb, was asked if he had concerns that anti-American militants in Iraq might ratchet up their activities in Iraq to try to increase casualties in September or October and tip the November election against him. "Yes, I worry about it," McCain said. "And I know they pay attention because of the intercepts we have of their communications ... The hardest thing in warfare is to counter

Election in Eastern province and the role of Goebbels
    2008-03-13 01:47:42
Today we witnessed the successful completion of local government election in Batticolo district. This has been reported as an election with least amount of violence and closer to fifty percent of voters have cast their ballot to strengthen the democracy. This election sealed the defeat of LTTE terrorists in the Eastern province and created a new avenue to establish democracy.LTTE terrorists were against this election from the beginning and their partners of politics joined the boycott later. We have the world’s biggest free media and human rights trade in the world and almost all these INGOs other than PAFERAL were hand in hand to jepodise the election. This will be the only country that free media and human rigts organizations campaigning to postpone and cancel elections. When LTTE terrorists were controlling these areas they were behaving in the opposite manner. This election not only established the democracy in Eastern province, but exposed the true nakedness of so called free me

    Update 3: Election '08.
    2008-03-09 12:59:51
So I have been going along with the 2008 election for a good while now. CNN has been my main source of information and my new thing on Tuesday's is to come home from school and watch CNN. I am a little obsessed. So after all the debates and deceit so far, I am going for Obama mainly because he is the only candidate that has it all to take on presidency. I was introduced to Mr. Barack Obama about 4 years ago when my history teacher was telling our class that is this man were to run for President, we will definitely vote for him. At that time, I knew nothing of him, all I knew that he was one intelligent black man and that he has what it takes to be President. Who knew that 4 years later, Obama would be running for President and I would be such a huge supporter. His speeches of change entice me and his views of America are truly amazing. Impressive how he writes all his speeches and covers all the important topics. Topics that some candidates have failed to cover. Hilary, in my opinion i

Michigan Democratic Party Says Yes to Election Redo
    2008-03-05 18:41:37
Wednesday evening, Democratic officials in Michigan indicated that they were open to a new primary or caucus in order to get their delegates seated at the convention. There was no mention of what kind of election it would be but this time the election would be valid. Howard Dean told National Public Radio this Wednesday afternoon, that a redo of their election would likely be the only way their delegates would be seated. Dean took a hard line with Michigan and Florida saying they broke the rules of the party and they should not get to decide the winner of this nomination. Dean said, a situation where Michigan or Florida got to decide the election based on their previous elections, would divide the party. Over the weekend, Governor Charlie Crist of Florida indicated that he would support a redo of their primary. Howard Dean speculated that redo's of both Michigan and Florida would have to happen sometime in May or June. The Democratic National Convention is not until August and Dean

Election '08: After the Dust Settles
    2008-03-04 01:43:00
The votes are in and Alberta has reaffirmed its standing as being true blue Tory country. Surprising even the most vocal Ed Stelmach cheerleaders, the massive majority the Progressive Conservatives achieved shocked media and pundits alike. As the dust settles from Election ’08, here’s what the individual parties face in the aftermath:The Progressive Conservatives: Premier Ed proved that substance supersedes sizzle in the minds of Alberta voters. Albertans wanted change and Ed provided just that – change from the quotable and controversial Ralph Klein to rock solid, sensible and trustworthy (boring?) leadership. More than just being a choice of ‘the devil you know’ as opposed to one you don’t, Stelmach’s team came through with a plan that appealed to Albertans. Experts were calling Edmonton to go Tory and Calgary to turn Liberal. They got it half right. Edmonton and Calgary both parked their votes with Steady Eddie and gave the Premier a margin of victory that would have ma

    Election 2008: Upside vs. Downside
    2008-02-18 17:15:12
Our country is facing some great challenges; it is crucial that we elect a President who has the potential to go beyond ordinary. We cannot afford another President who will just slap on a few band-aids while new problems continue to rise. The next President must have a tremendous upside. I think John McCain provides very little upside. Although he would probably do a better job then Bush, it wouldn't be good enough to get America moving in the right direction. As I watch McCain pander to the conservative base I am becoming concerned about his trustworthiness. I realize that he has to do this, but it shows that he is committed to politics as usual. If McCain was the right person for the job, he would be able to accomplish this pandering without turning off the independent voter like myself. Hillary Clinton also provides little upside. Even if she had the greatest ideas for solving our problems, there would be little chance of implementing them. Those who don't like

    Pakistan's Pre-Election Frenzy
    2008-02-17 18:31:20
With parliamentary elections in Pakistan only hours away, there are two relevant questions for the United States to consider: Will a newly elected Pakistani prime minister agree to work with Pakistan’s President Pervez Musharraf, America’s staunch ally on the war on terrorism? If the answer is no, what should the United States do in response? To allay U.S. fears about the elections, Musharraf and his Pakistani friends in Washington repeatedly have told American policymakers that Monday’s...(read more)

    A General Election Preview?
    2008-02-13 00:16:21
Both Barack Obama and John McCain used their televised victory speeches tonight to go after the other, perhaps offering us a glimpse into how a potential general election match-up between the two would play out.Obama was up first, delivering what was more of his standard stump speech nowadays than a victory speech to an audience in Madison, Wisconsin. When I am the nominee, I will offer a clear choice. John McCain won't be able to say that I ever supported this war in Iraq, because I opposed it from the beginning. Senator McCain said the other day that we might be mired for a hundred years in Iraq, which is reason enough to not give him four years in the White House. If we had chosen a different path--the right path--we could have finished the job in Afghanistan and put more resources into the fight against bin Laden. And instead of spending hundreds of billions of dollars in Baghdad, we could have put that money into our schools and hospitals, our road and bridges--and that's what the A

Michael Savage on the Election: Conservatives Stayed Home
    2008-02-06 17:31:52
Michael Savage had a very interesting take on the election today. He stated clearly that there was no evidence that Conservatism is dead. In fact, he demonstrated that just the opposite is true. Since there was no true Conservative candidate running in the Republican race, most Conservatives stayed home. How did he illustrate this? Well, yesterday 14.6 million people came out to vote for... Unions Score First Election Hit
    2008-01-15 13:26:00
As the province of Alberta rumbles towards an expected call for a late-spring election, activity on the political scene is heating up. The pending merger of the Alberta Alliance and Wildrose Party is still topical water cooler chat, with positions for and against filling the op-ed columns. Now along comes the latest buzz. The first salvo has been fired in the unofficial campaign, and it wasn’t from the gun of the ineffective Kevin Taft-led Liberals or the sideshow Whyte Avenue New Democrats. The rocket that hit Premier Ed Stelmach’s bulls-eye (and has scored a direct hit) is courtesy of ‘Albertans for Change’, which describes itself on its website as:‘…an initiative of the Alberta Building Trades Council and other coalition members including the Alberta Federation of Labour, which together represent nearly 200,000 working Albertans. Our coalition believes strongly that democracy is best served when governments are held accountable for their decisions and when voters are encouraged to cast well-informed ballots.’http://www.albertansforchange.ca/The site features three videos released by the labour coalition, all of which go beyond just the normal rhetoric of party vs. party debate to which we are all now way past desensitized. These go directly to Stelmach himself, with each vid asking in different ways why he hasn’t solved some of the sometimes overlooked negative consequences of the massive economic boom Alberta has been more than enjoying. In targeting the ‘reaction’ to the boom’s positive ‘action’, the group points out raw-nerve issues including the still-floundering health care system, sky-high rents and real estate prices which have actually created a new class in the province – the wealthy homeless, and so on. At a time when many long-time PC’s are themselves beginning to question certain aspects of their own party and leadership, this first shot had to sting a bit.Dealing with the public fallout over embarrassing fumbles on is

[Wikipedia] December 15: South Australian general election, 2006
    2007-12-14 22:50:00
The 2006 South Australian general election was held on 18 March 2006, and was conducted by the independent State Electoral Office of South Australia. The centre-left Australian Labor Party, in government since 2002 under Premier Mike Rann, gained six Liberal-held seats and a 7.7 percent statewide two-party preferred swing, resulting in the first Labor majority government since the 1985 election with 28 of the 47 House of Assembly (lower house) seats, a net gain of five seats. The centre-right Liberal Party of Australia, led by Rob Kerin, regained a formerly independent seat while losing seats - the net result of 15 seats was the lowest Liberal result in any South Australian election. Independent members Bob Such and Rory McEwen retained their seats, with Kris Hanna successfully changing from Labor to an independent member. The sitting Nationals SA member Karlene Maywald retained her seat.Read the rest of this article:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Australian_general

Australia: The First Election Decided Because of Global Warming
    2007-11-24 18:47:23
300th postToday, Australians went to the polls and voted for a new direction. They voted out the incumbent, John Howard, and voted in Kevin Rudd. The opinion is held wisely that Howard was voted out because of his failing economic policies – wait, excuse me, I’m being handed a note by my producer. It appears that – no! Howard’s economic policies were hugely successful! High economic growth, low unemployment, relatively low interest rates, tax reform, a more flexible workplace, zero Government debt, excellent international credit rating, strong investment in defense force funding, the list continues. This is strange…Why was Howard voted out? Because of global warming. Australia is the only major industrialized country other than the U.S. not to sign the Kyoto Protocol. Howard was the staunchest backer of the Bush administration’s environmental policy. Australians seem to be very displeased not with the economic direction of their country, but the environmental direction. Why?

    AN ELECTION IN MEDINA
    2007-11-21 17:19:00
AN ELECTION IN MEDINAThe masjid of the Prophet experiences a hectic day and hosts guests who have come from distant lands. Nobody wants to leave the town without hearing the result. All the Muslims have awoken in Medina to a critical day; the new caliph will be elected to conduct the works of the ummah (Islamic community). The morning sleepiness had been left behind; the sun shines on the people who are carrying out intense debates in the crowded masjid. The leading figures of muhajirs (Meccan immigrants) and ansars (residents of Medina) and military commanders are all there.Ammar ibn Yasir says, "Recognize Ali if you don't want people to fall into disagreement!" to Abdurrahman ibn Awf; it is he who will make the final decision. Miqdad ibn Aswad supports him, saying, "Ammar is right. If you recognize Ali, we will accept him willingly."On the other hand, Abdullah ibn Abi Sarh says, "Recognize Uthman if you don't want the Quraishis to fall into disagreement!" Opinions are expressed, one by one. From the whispers in the crowd, the names of Ali ibn Ali Talib and Uthman ibn Affan are heard. The three-day period given for the election of the caliph is about to come to an end. All the options in the election that have been offered by the former caliph have been put forward, and everyone breathlessly awaits the decision of Abdurrahman ibn Awf. As time passes, the tension in the masjid rises. The speeches made to influence Abdurrahman, who has promised to listen to everyone, are followed by heated debates between the supporters of the Hashimites and Ummayyads. Abdurrahman prays for help from Allah, asking to be shown a direction in this difficult situation, brought about by the death of Umar.Abdurrahman remembers the series of events that brought him to this complicated state and thinks back to the deathbed of Umar: the prominent figures of the Companions are standing before the Caliph, who has been wounded by a dagger. They whisper to him about the dangers that may occur
