Former employee slaps Tesla with class action suit
    2008-07-17 05:48:00
Their plate may be filled with churning out Tesla Roadsters and developing the Model S sedan, but Tesla Motors can't seem to get a break from the lawsuits. First there was the tiff with transmission supplier Magna, followed by potential development partner Fisker, and now Tesla is facing a class action (it's not a class action lawsuit until a judge deems it so) lawsuit from former Director of Public Relations, David Vespremi. Vespremi ended up on the cutting room floor during the tornado that swept through the company ranks at the end of 2007 was let go prior to the layoffs in January of this year. Vespremi is trying to connect his firing to the layoffs, but according to Tesla's Darryl Siry, that's not the case -- his termination was a separate matter. The details of the lawsuit allege that Tesla Motors did not practice good faith or fair dealing, violated labor codes with unpaid wages and waiting periods, and utilized unfair business practices. The document also listed libel and slan

You just let them know what the categories or capabilities are, that you need when you are recruiting or hiring a new staff member or other employee. And they will start searching for those people you need. Feel free to visit their site when you need more

Insurance rates mean cuts to employee coverage
    2008-07-08 09:49:00
The slowing economy is taking yet another toll on small businesses. More and more are dropping health insurance coverage for themselves and their employees. A new survey conducted by online payroll service SurePayroll found that 56 percent of small businesses do not offer a health care plan, primarily due to the high cost. Worse, more businesses are dropping coverage. When compared with a 2006

Incentive Roundup: Chrysler adds more cash to free gas, Ford mum on Employee Pricing
    2008-06-06 16:54:00
Times are tough in Detroit these days as each of the Big 3 saw drastic drops in sales for the month of May. It's not surprising, then, to see that Chrysler, Dodge and Ford have increased incentives in an effort to get those cars off its dealer's lots. For instance, prospective buyers for the Hemi-powered Chrysler 300C can now choose either $4,000 cash back or $2,000 plus Chrysler's $2.99 gas promotion, known as Let's Refuel America. Choosing Chrysler's full-size SUV, the Aspen, will net you $4,500 cash back or $1,000 in cash, plus the Let's Refuel deal. Dodge too is heavy into the incentives game, especially on fuel-gulping SUV's and trucks. The largest savings come with the 2008 Ram truck, which gets you $5,000 in cash or $3,000 plus the cheap gas card.Realizing the sorry state that sales of the F-Series are in, Ford has chosen to offer employee pricing for its full-sizers, although they aren't telling you what how much you'll save without a trip to the dealer. Ford battling bad truck sales with Employee Pricing on F-Series in June
    2008-06-05 16:19:00
It looks like the fuel crunch is starting to hurt Ford's pickup sales too. We already heard that GM is about to close plants and is considering killing spinning off HUMMER because of lower demand for trucks, and now we find out that Ford is dropping their prices to help move some trucks. Our By The Numbers post for May showed that the full-size Ford F-150 recently slipped from its perch at the top of new vehicle sales for the first time in 17 years! In fact it fell to fifth place behind Accord, Camry, Corolla and Civic, so it appears that it's time for some incentives. Rather than fuss with rebates, Ford is bringing customers into the family and extending employee pricing on all new F-Series sold in June. Actually, you can still use the existing rebates on top of the new lower base prices, which makes it a great time to buy one if you really need a pickup. Starting today, all F-Series trucks in the program should be sporting new MSRP addendum stickers showing the new lower prices. The

Work from Home: Need of Employer or Need of Employee
    2008-03-17 10:49:00
Rita* was surprised when her manager (of a large 5000+ employee IT & BPO company) has summoned her and have asked her to start working from home. Working as a project manager with leading multinational, and a mother to a small baby of six months, Rita was always looking for such opportunity. However she was afraid that asking her company work from home might result in slow career progression within the company. Rita's manager has informed her about new mandate by management where a certain percentage of employees have to be moved to this scheme and target is shared by all divisions. He also indicated that there will be no adverse effect on her career progression by opting for this. She now works from home for 3-4 days a week, and attends office based on business needs - like meetings on remaining 1-2 days.Another case in point is Raj*, owner of a small HR recruitment firm, who is planning to close his physical office and have his complete team work virtually. GM GMS Employee and Supplier Car Pricing Explained
    2008-03-06 03:19:00
I just wanted to write a short article to describe the difference between GMS car pricing and supplier car pricing when it comes to General Motors. Many will say this is simple, but I see the searches of those that are clearly confused.GM GMS Auto pricing is directly on the invoice of all new vehicles. This is what a GM Employee or a GM Retiree will pay for this vehicle. Please understand that this price does not include any incentives that may be available at that time. You will still qualify for low interest or rebate, whichever you choose to take. The price you purchase at is below invoice so don't try negotiating from that point, it cant be done. You can also use GMS on leasing as it will lower your lease or smart buy payment.GM Supplier discount is a complimentary discount given to suppliers of GM parts, accessories, etc. You may make a small component for a radio for a GM vehicle, but you may still qualify for GM Supplier discount. Fed Ex employees qualify to receive supplier pri

The Esops are a part of the company`s strategy to reward its employees who the company sees as critical to its ambitious retail rollout strategy. With over 500 stores in 50 cities in place, and a hefty Rs 250 billion investment plan lined up, the company feels training its retail business employees is also critical for the booming retail industry. The retail industry is known for high attrition, and hence the Esops is also expected to be a key element of the company`s retention strategy. Unethical Employee & Script Kiddie in the Computing World
    2008-03-04 05:30:55
Company’s especially large corporations should be on the alert for the unethical employee. The person is an employee that accesses their company’s network illegally for illicit reasons. It could be to gain top secret information to later sell it to the company’s competition or use some critical information to exert revenge on one’s previous employer in the future.A Script Kiddie is more often than not, a silly teenager who uses prewritten hacking & cracking programs to try to do harm on a computer or computer network. They probably want to do harm but because of their lack of technical skills, are a minor threat to computer security. Nonetheless, their actions can prove to be irritating & annoying hence probably deserving of some level of punishment from authorities.

Whoops - employee accident brings 33 cent gasoline to Wisconsin town, frenzy ensues
    2007-12-09 18:52:02
While Americans might be more and more conscious about using less gas, if you start (almost) giving it away, the conserving mentality goes right out the window. Last week, the AP reports, a gas station employee in Wisconsin goofed up before leaving the shop for the night, setting the price of gas to 32.9 cents instead of $3.299. Guess how long it took for someone to discover the cheap gas and then tell all their friends? Not long. The incident happened in Minocqua, Wisconsin, at Trig's Minocqua Shell. After the station closed at 10, the cheap gas prices kicked in and, since the pumps still accepted credit cards, people quickly spread the word. Before too long, 586 gallons were sold at the cheap price. Once police noticed the crowd at the pumps and called the station manager, the price was corrected. The manager was a little peeved at the customers, many of them regulars, calling them dishonest. I think it just shows once again how eager we are for gas (I'm guilty here, too, don't ge

    Revenues and Profits Per Employee
    2007-08-15 19:52:58
One metric that you can track in businesses is the revenue and profits per employee.  If you haven’t been doing so in your company, take a look at this number over a longer period, perhaps a few years or even longer term. What trends do you notice?  Are the numbers going up? The way that business is being done is changing over time.  We’ve moved from an agricultural society to an industrial society to a more information and service society.  I heard an author speak today mention another stage taking place where we’re moving to a more conceptual society. In these later couple stages, information and conceptual, it’s a very different way of operating than we had before.  Now, we have the capability to generate much more revenue and income per employee than we could before. The author really challenges businesses to take a look at their employees and see what could be outsourced and keep the headcount down even further.  In his own firm’s case, an

Q&A: Human Resources, bringing an employee back
    2007-07-28 20:21:02
Q: We have an employee that has been going through addiction treatment for the past two months. He is scheduled to come back to work on Monday. How do we put this employee back into his old role and reacquaint himself to the job? -Susan, Florida A: After any long absence from work, the employee will have to catch up to any changes the business has made. These changes could include policy, method, or structure. You will need to take a day or two to allow the employee to become familiar with any and all changes that have happened in the workplace. Once they are comfortable, you can allow them to go on with their daily tasks.

    Q&A: Work with employee problems
    2007-07-07 00:57:34
Someone emailed me the other day saying this: I have an employee who is suffering from prescription drug addiction underneath my management. Their work becomes slow and it’s hard to motivate this particular employee to do better work. Do you have any suggestions? It’s a tough position for any manager to be in, but you must sit down and communicate your frustration with this employee. However, you must visit your human resources department first. You will probably want them present in a meeting with this employee. Go through the work history of the employee and let him know what you are proud of from the past. Then demonstrate how his work is not meeting your expectations and then ask him how to proceed. There may be many reasons why this employee is being hampered by these prescription drugs and if it’s not work related, you want to make sure your human resources department is there so they can work out a treatment program or some other service to help your emplo

Boss Denies Employee Time off to Donate a Kidney
    2007-06-12 21:37:00
Oh, Dave Roberts, you should be ashamed of yourself. I wonder how you are sleeping these nights since your decision? I am amazed at the level to which you have sunken to and well, I'm glad we're not family. Do you REALLY equate a life-saving procedure like a kidney transplant with a cosmetic breast implant in your mind? Not only is this sexist but totally irrational and I am furious at you! I hope there's people already organizing a protest which will include signs that won't be very flattering to you or to YOUR lifeblood, which is your precious, precious, business and seems to have trumped even your own heart and conscience, sir. Hopefully now that this is in the public eye, a philanthropic person will step forward soon and offer Pam Melson a decent-paying job so that she can move forward with her unselfish, life-saving, beautiful decision she has made.
