| | Rude encounter with the Stumbleupon upper friend limit | | 2008-05-11 08:36:19 | | Ran across the stumbleupon friend limit today, which is odd, but looking like you can only have 200 friends in stumbleupon. Very sad.
While I probably will not have 5000 friends, putting an upper limit on friends is an interesting trick to pull, and this is the first time I have seen this error. Anyone [...] | | By: techwag
| | Encounter Fez with Lonely Planet | | 2008-04-04 09:33:00 | | Lonely Planet's Fez Encounter 1 is hot off the press and is already proving a hit with visitors, discovered Lumen, who caught up with Steph and Tim Newton at Cafe Clock. The Newtons of Ipswich arrived in Morocco well equipped with a copy of Fez Encounter 1, just launched at the end of March. They'd come all the way from their home town by train, an interesting (and environmentally friendly) way to travel. Staying at Dar el Hana, they had already visited Seffarine Square, the Nejjarine Museum and the snail stall on the corner of Derb el Horra on their first full day in Fez. Tim and Steph loved the pocket-size book, saying that the maps are excellent, especially the pull-out one that's a convenient size. They found the ideas for itineraries very helpful and manageable. And of course, they'd been following The View from Fez before their holiday. The Fez Encounter guide covers four neighbourhoods in the city: the Medina, the Andalous Quarter, Fes el-Jdid (incluiding the Mellah, the former Je | | By: THE VIEW FROM FEZ | | |

| | The Skeptic's Encounter with the Magical Ring | | 2008-02-12 20:02:35 | | MY FIRST ENCOUNTER WITH A SLIM RINGA few years back I opened a wellness center and in an effort to promote who we were, I booked a booth at a local wellness fair. Being a newbee at this type of stuff, I was excited to have the booth. Little did I know at the time that there were 3 other major events being hosted in the local area, and the weather was beautiful, as well, all amounting to very tough competition.I was not there to sell a product or service at the event, rather I was there to get our name known in the community. For 2 days I sat as people trickled in and out. The flood gates never opened. My husband on the other hand wandered, up an down each and every aisle, inquiring about what each person was offering. A woman was sitting there selling Slim Spurling Light Life Technology Rings, and my husband bought one-- a 1/2 cubit ring. He came back to our table all interested in what he purchased, and I was just annoyed, to me it was more money being spent on another gizmo or gadet | | By: Slim Spurling Tools | | |
| | Tiger Encounter | | 2008-01-05 22:47:00 | | No, I did not just take this photo right in front of that tiger, without any protective gear that would prevent that tiger to just rip my head off. This photo was taken at the Zoobic Safari Tiger Encounter @ Subic, wherein you ride a jeepney surrounded with metal grills and you will drive thru a trail where tigers are free to roam around. Tigers are adorable, but definitely not something you would want to keep as a pet at home. | | By: Photography-Per-Diem | | |

| | | | | Nihongo Encounter No. 10 and Kanji of the Week No. 20 | | 2007-09-21 20:18:00 | | I believe that the school we passed by last week in the outskirts of San Juan was a Chinese school. Indeed, Chinese and Japanese way of counting and naming numbers are exactly the same. Here is the counting system:ã„ã¡ã€ã«ã€ã•ã‚“ã€ã‚ˆã‚“・ã—ã€ã”ã€ã‚ãã€ãªãªã€ã¯ã¡ã€ãã‚…ã†ã€ã˜ã‚…ã†ichi, ni, san, yon/shi, go, roku, nana, hachi, kyuu, jyuu1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10Kanji of the Week No. 20On the above image, there is a crayon that says brown. But the kanji's reading is in Chinese. Here is the reading of color brown for the Japanese. READING: 茶色ã€ã¡ã‚ƒã„ã‚ã€chairo MEANING: color brown EXPLANATION: The first kanji is the symbol of TEA or cha. Tea, of course, is predominantly brown in color, aside from green and black. While the symbol for color which is on the right side is IRO. When both are combined, they literally mean TEA COLOR or color brown. Example: - ãŠèŒ¶ã®è‰²ã¯æ™‚々茶色ã§ã™ã€‚- ãŠã¡ã‚ƒã®ã„ã‚ã¯ã¨ãã©ãã¡ã‚ƒã„ã‚ã§ã™ã€‚- Ocha no iro ha tokidoki chairo desu.- Tea's color is sometimes brown.- Ang kulay ng tsaa ay paminsan minsan kulay kayumangi. | | By: Rey Ian\\\\\\\'s Personal Blog | | |

Just look for the English equivalent somewhere below, above or beside the Katakana and you will not be wrong either. It is read as SE-KU-SHUN KE-SU or Section Case. | | Nihongo Encounter No. 8 | | 2007-09-02 19:19:00 | | src="http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js">Dissecting Tokyo Tokyo restaurant's kanji. Is Tokyo the opposite of Kyoto? This is hilarious as one local sitcom show in the Philippines asked this on one particular scene.Tokyo is we know the present capital of Japan. But did you know that the real spelling of the word Tokyo in Nihongo is Toukyou? Yes, its Toukyou. The two kanjis that you see on the symbol of the restaurant represents Tou (東) which means East or Higashi (ひがし). While Kyou (京) means capital/city or miyako (みやこ、都). When both are combined, it means East of The Capital or East of the City. Before the Meiji Restoration of 1868, Kyouto or present day Kyoto was Japan's capital. Kyouto, as it is spelled (京都), is the capital city, as it is defined above. So back in the old days, when you were in Kyouto, the capital, you refer to Toukyou as the East of the Capital or East of the City, which is Kyouto. In the map, Kyouto is on the western part | | By: Rey Ian\\\\\\\'s Personal Blog
| | Cold Encounter Between Turkish President, Commander-In-Chief Abdullah Gul and Generals | | 2007-08-30 21:57:00 | | On his first day in office the new Turkish President Abdullah Gul attended the graduation ceremony at the Gulhane Military Academy for Medicine and for the first time as president, met with the military commanders. Before Gul entered accompanied by the Chief of Staff it was announced that everybody should stand for the president. President Gul presented the first diploma to the valedictorian, Speaker Toptan to the second-best student, PM Erdogan to the third and Chief of General Staff General Buyukanit to the fourth student. Mainstream Turkish daily Hurriyet reported that while the applause during President Gul’s presentation was weak, there was a loud and long round of applause for General Buyukanit when he got up to present the fourth diploma. The Chief of Staff did not salute the President in military style when Gul got up to go to the podium, contrary to the custom. The generals looked solemn and thoughtful during the ceremony. | | By: THE NEW BABYLON TIMES | | |
| | TEENS COLUMN - A Corbettian Encounter | | 2007-06-27 00:32:00 | | By Eesha KunduriIt was around seven on a pleasant Sunday morning, the sky was bright and clear, and the sun sparkled through the woods of the Jim Corbett National Park, an ideal setting for a jeep safari through the wild. As we got into the jeep, everyone said this was going to be an exciting experience, more so if we happen to sight a tiger. Someone said, “Tiger? Forget it. We stand absolutely no chance.” “Maybe the person is right”, I told myself for tiger sightings had certainly become rare these days. We drove through the woodlands, spotting a herd of deer’s graze close by, and a beautiful partridge flap its wings and take to the air. Everything seemed just so admirable and mesmerizing. The multifarious trees, with their vibrant shades of green and brown completely enchanted me. I suddenly felt so close to nature. We stopped near a place from where our tour guide felt we could possibly sight the unsightable - the tiger. We waited for nearly half an hour or so, reminding ourselves time and again that patience is a virtue which has its own reward. And indeed, sweet were the fruits of patience, for there it was in front of our eyes- reddish brown and ochre, with striations of black - the hitherto invisible, the Panthera tigris. As I adjusted the lens and position of my camera, the charismatic tiger seemed to tell me, “Look, even your camera cannot do it. Catch me if you can.” I shot the tiger with my hands trembling out of awe and excitement. I then realized what a challenging job wildlife photography is. We all stood in silence, beholding the unmistakable beauty, grace and majesty of the tiger, in its territory, its own natural habitat. Simply an out of the world experience - mere words can’t describe it! We were lucky to have sighted one of the most evocative species on earth, in the wild. And this surely added that extra something to a trip. To feel closer to the bounty of nature surrounding us, we went for a walk along the Kosi river, which was | | By: Bikkupedia Unlimited | | |
| | | Face to face encounter | | 2007-01-29 23:34:00 | | We stick with an underwater theme this week, as we take a close-up view of this scorpion-fish, from the Poor Knights Islands off northern New Zealand. A nocturnal feeder, the scorpion-fish ranges out over the rocky bottom and up and down cliff faces at night, when many of the daytime feeding fishes seek rest and shelter among holes and crevices.Scorpion-fish can be aggressive towards people particularly if the diver ventures into its territory. At the approach of a small fish, it makes a short swift rush, propelled by its fanlike pectoral fins. The huge mouth yawns open to engulf the prey with a combined sucking and grasping action and the victim is swallowed whole.Check out other intriguing, inspring and arresting images from NHNZ Images, where you will find moving pictures available for sale for your production.
