    Lehman in talks to sell real estate assets-Bloomberg

    Lehman, reeling from the credit crunch, is looking to sell assets by the end of the year, Bloomberg reported, citing potential buyers approached by the investment bank.Any sale would follow Merrill Lynch & Co Inc's (MER.N: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) announcement last month that it agreed to sell $30.6 billion of repackaged debt known as collateralized debt obligations for about 22 cents on the dollar.Wall Street firms are broadly looking to shed their riskiest assets to restore investor confidence, which has been shaken by more than $400 billion of write-downs and credit losses at financial firms globally.Lehman's balance sheet has about $40 billion of commercial real estate and related securities on its balance sheet."Clearly this area of exposure Lehman has is weighing on its credit," said Jason Brady, portfolio manager at Thornburg Investment Management in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

    Chinese spend big on real estate

    SHANGHAI, China (AP) -- China's National Statistics Bureau has reported that spending on real estate and other fixed urban assets rose 27.3 percent in the first seven months of the year compared with the same period a year ago, accelerating amid reconstruction of areas devastated by May's earthquake.The bureau's report Friday says investment in construction, factory equipment and other such assets totaled 7.2 trillion yuan (US$1.1 trillion) in January-July.The growth rate was above the 26.8 percent rise in such spending in the first half of the year.Construction spending also increased amid efforts to rebuild following the May earthquake that killed nearly 70,000 people and left 5 million homeless.

    Sharpest real estate drops in Haifa

    "The Israeli residential market has been unchanged in recent years, except in greater Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, where there has been a sharp rise in demand and prices," says Union Bank in a survey on the housing market. The bank says that the average apartment price has fallen 7% since April 2006. The average apartment price fell by 2% in the north, 7% in the Sharon region, and that the sharpest decline was in Haifa - 22.5%.In contrast, the average apartment rose by 10% in the south in the past two years, by 6% in Jerusalem, 3.4% in Tel Aviv, and 3.3% in the central region.

He had faced a debt burden of up to Bt77 billion arising from the financial crisis of 1997.In the the hospitality industry, Tanayong will work as Keeree's business arm. The commercial real estate market across major cities in India saw a slow performance in the second quarter of 2008. Mumbai, the commercial capital, witnessed stagnant rental values, while Delhi saw a strong correction after the IT/ITeS industry, the largest consumers of commercial real estate, deferred their expansion plans on fears of a global meltdown. The total demand for office space during the second quarter of 2008 was 9.74 million sq.ft while the supply was recorded at 18.07 million sq feet. Phong said that high inflation has direct and indirect impacts on real estate investments. First, high inflation makes input expenses higher. Second, high inflation slows down the execution of real estate projects, thus reducing the supply on the market.
