| Why the last ethical investing blog carnival? | | 2008-07-08 23:14:00 | | This is an explanation of why I've decided to end the ethical investing blog carnival. There were plenty of submissions, but almost all were completely irrelevant. Here were the guidelines:"Submit your articles on ethical investing. Topics could include, but aren't limited to, discussions of environmentally friendly, people friendly, animal friendly investments; what makes an investment 'ethical,' can it be profitable, what commonly called 'ethical' investments are anything but that, is investing in the so called 'vice' industry necessary unethical, etc."However, please DO NOT submit posts that are irrelevant to the carnival. Posts MUST be about investing AND related to ethics."Submissions consisted mostly of ads for ebooks on trading stocks, Investor's Business Daily stock picks, lists of index funds, articles on which stocks are hot now, how to make money online, and so on.Since I received the same submissions to my other blog carnival, "Simply Investing" (the next edition will be hug... | | By: Slacker Wealth | | |

Here is the one that made the cut.Dorian Wales presents Free Market Proponents Call for Regulation on Speculative Oil Futures Trading: Define Irony posted at The Personal Financier, saying, "Analysts say speculative oil trading is to blame for gas prices at $4 a gallon. Congress considers regulation and legislation. What happened to market forces of supply and demand?"The author makes an argument in favor of more regulations. In the process, futures contracts and the invisible hand are explained, and we are treated to a few quotes from Ayn Rand, Jean Jacques Rousseau, and Thomas Hobbes.Technorati tags: slackerwealth's ethical investing carniv, blog carnival

| | Blogging Ethics-Can you be paid and be ethical? | | 2008-07-02 14:52:00 | | Interesting question with an assumption you have ethics which often isn’t clearly demonstrated in many of today’s businesses. I guess it depends on what you write about and how honest you are in writing. As a retired, fixed income kind of guy, I look for things that can bring in gadget or book money without a great deal of sweat on my part. Since I am a technut and booknut, writing about that is a no brainer. Now to get paid for it would be exciting but am I hungry enough to ignore my conscience? I can answer that by the fact that I have been offered industry related jobs by former competitors since I sold my business. As enticing as some of the offers were, I declined as I had signed a non-compete agreement with the guy who bought my computer business. Several times I have been told that those agreements are impossible to enforce. That may be the case but since I agreed not to compete and I shook hands on that agreement, I “ethically” can’t ignore the agreement, regardless o... | | By: Money Saving Tech Tips and Philosophic Musings | | |

| Importance of Ethical SEO | | 2008-06-07 01:37:53 | | White hat SEO (or ethical SEO if you like) is often argued to be not as successful as 'black hat' SEO. Proponents of black hat SEO have even gone so far as saying that using black hat they can easily out rank any white hat SEO'd site.Whilst it may be true that Black Hat SEO techniques certainly can have a more rapid and dramatic effect on raising the Google ranking of a site, this has to be weighed against the fact that if discovered the site may well be penalised, or banned altogether. This is n... | | By: Powerful SEO - Effective SEO | | |
| | Thoughts on the Ethical and Spiritual Dimensions | | 2008-05-29 07:59:14 | | By Zeki ErgasIn Media For Freedom SOME THOUGHTS ON THE ETHICAL AND SPIRITUAL DIMENSIONS THAT HUMANITY NEEDS TO ADOPT TO BUILD A BETTER WORLDIt is increasingly recognized that unless man changes, the world will not change. That means that man’s conscience must change. And that, in turn, requires a fundamental change in the education of children. That education has to begin in the home, continue in kindergartens and nursery schools, and elementary schools. We must inculcate children new ethical and spiritual values that emphasize peace, social justice, solidarity, and frugality. In the long run, the survival of humanity and the planet may well depend on the success of that project. If we fail, humanity and the planet may suffer terrible consequences. The four big challenges that humanity must meet are: building a culture of peace; eradicating extreme poverty; ending nuclear proliferation; and dealing effectively with global warming. The values of the heart and of the soul, must replace ... | | By: Spiritual Village | | |

| Are Bio-fuels Ethical? a Bio-Fuel Primer | | 2008-05-01 14:57:41 | | THE GREEN DEATHThere are now endless Henny-Penny reports that the sky is falling and we are all going to die of starvation. They are “rationing” rice at Wally-World and Costco. They are rationing rice in Israel. (same way as here) Napal is cutting off exports of grain. People in underdeveloped countries are truly suffering. The question is: Are bio-fuels to blame or is it that evil global warming? Or – is all the hype political and designed to help the Dems over the Republicans? Are there reasonable solutions that may simply involve the way third world ...... | | By: The Pink Flamingo | | |
| | The Biofuels Law: Ethical Aspects | | 2008-04-07 20:39:22 | | I just saw another interesting article from GMANews.TV. It’s actually the conclusion of a two-part special. The first one focused on “Arroyo brother-in-law to use biofuels law to evade CARP?” Now, this one, focusing on "Ethical lapses mark passage of Biofuels Law, says report," is just as interesting as the first. And I kid you not! Read on, friends! There is perhaps no lawmaker as enthusiastic about biofuels as Sen. Juan Miguel Zubiri. Zubiri was still congressman for the third district of Bukidnon when he became principal author of the House bill that eventually became Republic Act 9367 or the Biofuels Act. He campaigned hard to get other lawmakers to support the measure that he earned himself the nickname “Mr. Biofuel." His official page in the Senate website describes him as the “father of the Biofuels Act of 2006."A-KiD: I believe I made a post on this sometime ago. Link is here. Zubiri’s campaign for biofuels appears to be in keeping with his pro-environment ... | | By: The AnitoKid Chronikos | | |

| | Ethical Fashion Designers | | 2008-03-10 04:04:00 | | During her London fashion week show in February 2003, Katherine Hamnett, the award winning British designer. sent models up the catwalk in T-shirts that read No War, Blair Out. Get Ethical found out more about her fashion crusade... How are you involved in ethical fashion? I have always been an environmentalist and with three children, I am naturally concerned about their future. Relating to fashion, I think it really started in 1990 when I commissioned some research on the impact of the clothing and textiles business on the environment. I was horrified at what I found. The first issue was that there are 10 thousand deaths every year due to conventional cotton agriculture, mostly from pesticide poisoning. It was a real shock, because we designers thought we weren?t doing any actual damage using natural crops when actually we were having this colossal impact. I did a talk in New York telling people involved in the clothing industry about this. I think that was the start of the whole or... | | By: Women's Fashion | | |

| | Ethical Investing Blog Carnival | | 2008-02-03 22:31:00 | | This is the first of what (I hope) will be many blog carnivals on the subject of ethical investing. To me it seems there is a paucity of blog writing on this important issue. The blog carnival's purpose is to encourage more bloggers to write on the subject, and to assemble these posts in one convenient place for readers.Below are three excellent submissions that were accepted, out of a much greater number (many submissions were off topic).Hung Nguyen presents Socially Responsible Investment: Can it beat traditional mutual funds? posted at Meaningful Issues in Today's World, looks "at socially responsible investing (SRI). The idea is that by investing in socially responsible companies that you can improve your return. I quickly review the book The SRI Advantage and then look into the problems of SRI and why I won't invest in it."Socks First presents CSR, Creative Capitalism and the Recession, exploring the following questions: "What's the future of corporate social responsibility? | | The Road to Mystery Shopping – Ethical Market Research Pays Well | | 2007-11-06 08:54:00 | | Have you considered becoming a mystery shopper? Secret, or mystery, shopping is now a widely popular way for companies to obtain quality consumer feedback, while mystery shoppers get rewarded with cash and freebies. Companies are competing to recruit mystery shoppers who pose as real customers on their premises to check the quality of their services and the responsiveness of their staff. However, mystery shopping is far from being a secretive tool for punishing employees; it is a legitimate way for improving staff training, customer service and, ultimately, sales. Therefore, ethical mystery shopping is a powerful channel for positioning businesses upwards marketwise, while rewarding the objective and candid evaluations that mystery shoppers complete for these companies. If someone has already told you that mystery shopping doesn’t pay well, you should definitely question that statement. Certainly, many people have been unfortunately burnt in mystery shopping scams, or have not been ambitious enough to master the tricks of successful mystery shopping – rather simple, but requiring a good doze of persistence. You should keep realistic. And the reality is that there is always a good return on a rational investment of your effort and time. Once you have registered with legitimate mystery shopping companies, you can start earning, and actually increase your earnings as you get better in completing your mystery shopping assignments...Read complete article here : - The Road to Mystery Shopping – Ethical Market Research Pays Well... | | By: Mystery Shopping jobs | | |

E. Moore, the most important English-speaking ethicist of the 20th century.
