| Eulogy for the Republican Party? | | 2007-10-24 01:39:02 | | I think this comment from RedState pretty much sums it up:"ron paul, may have fit in the republican party at one time, but he doesn't belong here anymore. we (republicans) have changed along with society. i believe in a somewhat powerful central government. i think constitutionalists like ron paul are too rigid in their interpretation. like you said, even jefferson abused the constitution. why should we allow our hands to be tied behind our backs by some archaic document? it's a guide, not biblical law."Are we approaching a point in our history of another major political party upheaval, à la the Whig/Republican split? | | By: Republican Renaissance | | |

| | Eulogy for my Aunt Dorothy | | 2007-06-24 03:46:00 | | My Aunt Dorothy loved words. She loved to write, read, create, speak and have them.In the last five or six years Dorothy and I played more games of Scrabble than anyone here could imagine, except perhaps, Tom and Jan, Dorothy’s next door neighbors, who had to have heard us arguing about a word one of us had just played. Dorothy and I were both somewhat amazed that they had never come over to check and see if the argument had ended in fisticuffs. Of course it never did, much to my relief. Last count we were at about 400 games. That, my friends, is a lot of words. But it wasn’t just about the love of words that she and I shared. It was also the love of coffee. And competition. And companionship. And caring. And her cooking (she loved to cook and I loved eating her cooking.) ...And it was about the laughter and even the tears. Which, when all combined; competition, companionship, caring, cooking, laughter and tears you get a sense of why most of our nearly 400 games took anywhere betwe | | By: The Peace Tree | | |

| | | Eulogy for Falwell | | 2007-05-21 16:19:00 | | Been waiting and waitingCraving inspirationSeeking to eulogizeWith mounting frustrationA man whose crass actionsDivided the nation. But lacking in outrageHis death no sensation,In place of expected,Sought after elationI'm feeling a kind oflow-impact deflation,And so just perhaps I'llGive in to temptationReflect for a momentOn Falwell's vocation.Seems that the crackpotsFrom Westboro BaptistWill try for a LynchburgPre-funeral protest. They're going to preachThat Falwell expressedNot nearly enough of The hate they attestChrist has for gays, women,Blacks, Jews, and the rest. And so with the scum ofTopeka I findWe are quite ironicallyOf the same mindAgreeing that FalwellWill not find salvationBut is quite more likelyIn line for damnation. They say you shouldn't speak ill of the dead, but I can't help but feel that the world will be a better place without Jerry Falwell in it. The funeral's tomorrow, and many GOP luminaries are planning on skipping it.
