| Russia Eurobasket 2007 Champions - defeated Spain 60-59 | | 2007-09-17 13:08:22 | | Team Russia survived a closely fought game against 2006 defending champions Spain & a tougher home town crowd. The hero for the game is J.R. Holden whose last 2 seconds basket lifted the Russian Basketball team 60-59. Spanish NBA basketball player Pau Gasol had a chance to be the hero for the Spanish Basketball team but his last second attempt rimmed out which resulted in the biggest upset in the Eurobasket 2007 competition.This win by Russia will complete the the 3 Olympic basketball qualifiers for the 2008 Olympics. Team Spain by virtue of being last year's champion did not need to worry about this need because they have automatic entry even before this competition started. This competition's third placer Team Lithuania which defeated Greece 78-69 earlier gained the second qualifying ticket. | | EuroBasket 2007 finals - Russia vs Spain | | 2007-09-17 10:40:09 | | Faced with a very improved Lithuanian Basketball team, Russia had to rally behind Andrei Kirilenko's 29 points to secure a finals seat against defending champions, hosts & 2008 Olympics qualifier Team Spain. The game was virtually a duel between Andrei Kirilenko & Lithuania's Ramunas Siskauskas. Both men scoring heavily for their own team. The Russian Basketball team not only gained a finals seat in the Eurobasket 2007 tournament but their win also secured a ticket to the 2008 Olympics basketball tournament. | EuroBasket 2007 Quarterfinals Results - Lithuania Beats Croatia & Greece Downs Slovenia | | 2007-09-15 07:04:14 | | Preserving their unbeaten tournament record, Lithuania slips past the tough Slovenian Basketball Team 74-72. The Team Croatia had one final chance to tie the game & send it to a possible overtime in the last few seconds but Zoran Planinic missed two crucial free throws in the final seconds of regulation play that spelled the end for the Croatian nationals. Lithunia will move on to the semis & will face evenly tough Team Russia Basketball.On the other game, Greece had a close fight for the win against a formidable Team Slovenia but won the game 63-62. Slovenia had 12-point lead going to the last two and a half minutes of the fourth period but was wiped out by Team Greece at the end of regulation. | | EuroBasket 2007 - Russia beats France 75-71 Spain buries Germany 83-55 | | 2007-09-14 04:30:46 | | The Eurobasket 2007 Semifinal line-up is almost complete. The Spanish Basketball Team drubbed bitter rival Germany 83-55. The hero for the day might as well be Jose Calderon for Team Spain, scoring 17 points for the game. He had some help from his teammates though, Rudy Fernandez & Juan Carlos Navarro each scored 12 points. Spain also limited Germany's NBA superstar Nowitzki to only 11 points for the whole game. But in the end, it was Team Germany's poor shooting that failed them shooting only 33% against Team Spain's 57%. Spain never fell behind leading Germany all throughout the game. This game is in stark contrast to tight battle between the 2 highly regarded European teams. The previous encounters between Team Spain & Team Germany ended with very close scores. Partido vibrante entre turcos e italianos. Italia sobrevivió al partidazo de Turkoglu (se lo tiró todo, eso si) y tras la prórroga venció a una decepcionante Turquía. Italia va mejorando y es una seria amenaza para la selección española en cuartos.

En Francia siguen pendientes de Tony Parker. El MVP de la final de la NBA ha viajado a San Antonio para realizarse unas pruebas médicas y valorar una pequeña lesión sufrida en la concentración de la selección francesa. Aunque se espera que Parker regrese para jugar los partidos amistosos previos del mes de agosto, los Spurs se lo pondrán difícil si ven cualquier atisbo de lesión. Otro galo, Frederic Weis, jugará pese a sus problemas con las lesiones. Para acabar con la actualidad del equipo francés destacar que siguen los problemas de Boris Diaw. El polivalente jugador de los Suns debe buscar un seguro que convezca a la franquicia de Arizona, y mientres no lo encuentre no podrá jugar con los “bleus”. Turquía acaba de anunciar su pre-selección (leer en fiba.com) en la que se encuentran Turkoglu (ORL) y Okur (UTA). Los dos jugadores no estuvieron en el mundial de Japón y lideran una selección que tendra presencia ACB (Tunceri, Erdogan, Peker) y otro jugador NBA (Ilyasova -Bucks-). Turquía está enclavada en el grupo C, junto a Lituania, Alemania y la República Checa.
En mi opinión es uno de los “tapados” del torneo.
