Events on Pender Island, BC May 1 - May 4
    2008-05-01 10:30:00
Welcome to May everyone!  It seems as though the weather gods think the new month is cause for celebration -- the Pender forecast is for sun and warmer temperatures right through the weekend (unless you count a bit of rain on Friday...which I choose not to count, as it disturbs my "right throught the weekend" assertion.)  Anyway -- enough of my ramblings...What's on this weekend:Saturday, May 3:9:30am - Farmer's Market at the Community Hall.  Come out a

Events of the Heart presents "You've Gotta have Heart"
    2008-04-29 11:09:00
Can I just say how cool I am? Really cool. Last night was my big poser event where I acted like a big shot and interviewed Brenda Strong about heart disease. It couldn't have gone better. First of all, the whole evening was like my wildest dream come true. It incorporated three of my favorite things in the world: fiber, glamor and schmoozing. Metamucil sponsored Events of the Heart in presenting the performance, "You've Gotta have Heart." Metamucil asked three local bloggers to attend, me, Liz from Everyday Goddess and Kristin from It's All Fun and Games. I had never met the other two before, but the three of us had a grand old time pretending like we were "somebodies" and got front seats at the performance. So in case anybody ever tells you that blogging doesn't matter, I beg to differ. Apparently we're super star hot shots whose opinion matters. Who knew? But let me just start out by telling you guys a bit about the issue which I really was in the dark on. The event was t

    2008-04-24 11:27:00
If the last 2 days are any indication, it appears as though "normal" spring weather patterns are reasserting themselves here on Pender.  Our mediterranean climate pretty much abandoned us for the past 2 weeks, but we're tough!  We can handle snow in April!  (As long as there's some promise of sun on the horizon...)If you are planning to make your way over to Pender this weekend, you may be interested in what's on over the next few days.  Here's the s

Events and Event Handlers Web Dynpro ABAP
    2008-03-24 13:14:24
You can define events for a component controller to allow cross-controller communication. These events can then be triggered using the predefined method FIRE__EVT. Once the event is triggered, the corresponding event handler is automatically called in another controller by the runtime. A usage of the component controller must be entered in the current controller to handle an event of a component controller. (The usage of the component controller within a view controller is automatically created.) The following graphic shows an example in which a method of the component controller triggers the event MY_EVENT. The event handler MY_HANDLER of a view controller responds to the event MY_EVENT, because this event of the component controller is assigned to this event handler. It has been assigned on the Methods tab of the view controller. Cross-Component Events You can use one or more events of the component controller and use them as cross-component events. the days events.
    2008-01-11 02:39:49
another day of simple pleasures. I went over to the pantip plaza mall to buy a 2 gig flash drive. the prices have really plummeted. the kingston 2 gig travelers are going for about 12 dollars now. I saw the 4 gig travelers going for about 20 dollars. my guess is you could probably find them cheaper on ebay. anyway, after a few hours of hanging out at pantip window shopping, I went over to this sizzler to eat the salad bar special. after sizzler, I hung out at the central world mall and checked out all the bikes, and sporting goods. I left the central world mall at around 8pm at night. and went home to rest.I was more tired then I thought. I fell asleep as soon as I got home, and didn't wake up from the impromptu nap until around midnight. too late for the lobby. so, I just watched tv, and worked on my blog. sarge was nice enough to give me some images of lizards. funny guy. so, I put one up on my blog. check it out, sarge. it is up on the right side of the screen.received a phone call from mike jagger like really late. he is wondering what happened to me. just told him everything was ok. just rolling along with life the best I can.got emails from barnaby and john wayne. everybody is coordinating their schedules to meet up in the philippines. yes. only another few days to go before the journey. haven't seen john wayne in more than 6 months. it will be good to see him again. he can give us the lowdown on life in manila.heard from the grapevine that db cooper and a couple of unknown lounge lizards were in pattaya doing the scene there not long ago.for some reason, I stayed up until 7am this morning. got into the internet big time, and just lost track of time. it's about 3pm now. just woke up. I think I'll do some chores before going to the lobby later tonight.another day in the life of a lounge lizard.

    Recap of Today's Recruiting Events
    2008-01-05 15:04:00
Technically, I'm supposed to be classy about recruits and where they go. These are young kids making big decisions, so you can't fault them for where they choose to play ball. So wishing them ill is not a mature thing to do. However, certain situations call for criticism of these "kids". I was 18 just a few years ago, and I never would have pulled some of the stunts some of these guys are doing.I would have been fine with Matt Patchan going to LSU. Everyone has a right to go to a school other than the U. And to be fair, Matt handled his recruitment very well. He refused to string anyone along ala Patrick Johnson. He announced his decision to go to UF and that's fair enough. However, after ripping this team for their disappointing performance versus Virginia, you would think he would have it in him to back it up.Instead, the Cane legacy chose to play for an established contender in the Gators rather than make his own mark here in Coral Gables. If you are going to call out a team for

Top 5 Blockbuster Events Of All Time
    2008-01-05 09:22:01
Even though the UFC and PRIDE FC have hosted well over 100 events combined, very few can be called blockbusters, and more often they’re labeled busts. The blockbuster, however rare, has the potential to revitalize an organization for months, and for these purposes, a blockbuster is defined as an event with a strong card and an even stronger night of fights. Although UFC 79 turned in a great card and and exciting event, it will be a few months before history casts its official judgment on the event. So, which cards in MMA history have given fans a great card as well as great fights? An article originally written for MMA Madness looks for the answer with its top 5 blockbuster events ever.#5: PRIDE Final Conflict 2005The card: Featured the middleweight tournament semis (and later that night, the finals). The final four in the tournament were Ricardo Arona, Wanderlei Silva, Mauricio Rua, and Alistair Overeem. Silva and Rua are the two most accomplished middleweights in PRIDE history while Arona and Overeem aren’t slouches either. The pairings of Arona with Silva and Overeem with Rua were significant due to the widely known preference of the two Chute Boxe legends (Silva and Rua) to not fight one another.Additionally, the card featured a heavyweight title fight between then-champion Fedor Emelianenko and Mirko Filipovic. While Fedor was expected to retain the title, Filipovic provided the greatest challenge Fedor had ever faced. Filipovic was undefeated in over a year and had torn through such big names as Josh Barnett and Kevin Randleman. To add even more fuel to the fire, Cro Cop had knocked out Fedor’s little brother, Aleksander, with a ferocious kick to the head one year prior to the event. The event: Wanderlei’s unanimous decision loss to Arona paved the way for Rua to dominate Overeem, and later Arona, for two consecutive knockouts. With that pair of wins, Rua solidified himself as a top 205 pounder not just in PRIDE, but also in the world.#4: UFC 47: It’s

Banten preparing two events for Visit Indonesia Year 2008
    2008-01-04 09:12:50
Banten province is preparing two national tourist events as the central government has entrusted the province to be a supporting tourist destination in the Visit Indonesia Year 2008, a local official said here Thursday. The two national tourist events being prepared by the province are Festival Perkusi Nusantara (the Archipelago`s Percussion Festival) and Gebyar Wisata Banten (the Banten Tourism Festivity). In 2008, head of the Banten provincial culture and tourism office Ranta Suharta told ANTARA that the office is preparing nine programs which will be implemented in 23 activities to develop and promote the province`s culture and tourism. "We are preparing the programs to avoid possible overlapping as in 2008, a national Qur`an reading contest will also be held in Banten," Ranta said. He said the province had a very good opportunity by holding the upcoming Archipelago`s Percussion Festival and the Banten Tourism Festivity in an effort to reawaken and further promote its culture and tourism both at national and international levels. Banten has attractive tourist sites including the beaches of Anyer, Carita, Karang Bolong and Bagedur as well as pilgrimage tourist sites besides interesting traditional arts like debus, rampak bedug and local dances. Ranta pointed out that the Krakatau Tourism to be held in Anyer Beach, Serang district, was also expected to highlight the Visit Indonesia Year 2008.Source: Antara

Terrorism Tidbits: Short Notes on Various Topics & Events
    2007-12-18 11:17:06
Some condensed news and notes on various topics: 1. The NEFA Foundation has released full English transcripts of the audio of Al Qaeda #2 Ayman Al-Zawahiri denouncing the Annapolis Conference and released on December 14, and of the subsequent video "interview" of him, released on December 16 . I see by his claims of success in Iraq as a retort by "Al Qaeda Central" to comments (by Walid Phares here and others) that OBL's October 22 tape was an admission of deep frustration over the course of events...(read more)

More on the general amnesty of the early 1990s, and other events that helped precipitate Burundi's decade-long war
    2007-12-06 10:57:00
From: http://www.unhcr.org/home/RSDCOI/3ae6a9fc3c.htmlAmnesty International Report 1994 - Burundi [looking at the events of 1993]The newly elected President and other leading figures were brutally killed by soldiers who tried to seize power in October. This sparked off widespread intercommunal violence and political killings in which tens of thousands of people, including children, were killed and hundreds of thousands became refugees. Many of the victims were executed extrajudicially by the army. Earlier, there were arrests of suspected government opponents in the first half of the year, and others were brought to trial, some being sentenced after apparently unfair trials. However, all those still held were among some 500 political prisoners who were released as part of a general amnesty in September. Those freed also included 91 political prisoners sentenced after unfair trials in 1992. There were no executions: all death sentences were commuted under the September amnesty which also, however, gave immunity from prosecution to perpetrators of past human rights violations. In February Burundi acceded to the UN Convention against Torture. At the start of the year a multi-party electoral process began, raising hopes of an end to massive human rights violations which had been committed during 28 years of one-party military rule. However, there were violent incidents between supporters of the then ruling party, the Union pour le progrès national (UPRONA), Union for National Progress, and the main opposition party, the Front pour la démocratie au Burundi (FRODEBU), Front for Democracy in Burundi. In January the Minister of the Interior threatened to ban FRODEBU, accusing it of inciting violence and being a front for the banned Parti pour la libération du peuple hutu (PALIPEHUTU), Hutu People's Liberation Party.President Pierre Buyoya, a member of the minority Tutsi ethnic group which dominates the armed forces, was defeated in presidential elections on 1 June. Random Events and Thoughts from a Sunday
    2007-12-02 17:32:26
Bart is up talking to Mike about something important. I am down here stressing about it.So, to take my mind off that, I figured I would share some random thoughts about today. It's Jimmy's birthday so Bart is making homemade pizza (well, right now I guess Sadie is making it since Bart is talking). He is choosing to go to a pro hockey game sometime soon (was supposed to today but roads are icy) so he is not having presents. It should be a fun low key evening (if the thing with Mike is resolved). This morning in church we were reading the story of the angel appearing to Mary. Mary asks, (in the message translation), "how can this be since I have not slept with a man?" Immediately Wilson turns around and says to me, accusatorily, "YOU HAVE!" Nobody wanted to stay through both services this morning so it was stressful making them do so. In our former town we did it every week, but we've kind of gotten out of the habit, and now that both services are so different, we're trying to g

10.5: Create New iCal Events in Apple Mail!
    2007-11-08 22:10:19
After updating to Leopard, I was amazed when I discovered that Apple Mail integrates VERY will with iCal. Here's an example:Subject: DinnerMessage:Hey! I was wondering if you would want to go out to dinner this thursday at 4 PM. I was thinking we could go to Olive Garden.Let me know!OliverIf you hover your mouse over "Thursday at 4 PM" an arrow will appear. If you click on that arrow, you can then choose to add a new item to iCal. If you click on that, then a pop-up window will appear and it has the time (4 PM) the date (11/08/2007) and the event (Dinner). This works with other things. For example:Subject: DinnerMessage:Hey! I was thinking that we should go to olive garden on the 10th. Would you be interested? 4 o'clock would be best for me.Let me know!OliverNow, if you mouse over 4 o'clock or "the 10th". This will bring up the arrow and you can create a new iCal item. If you don't know if you're available on the 10th or not, you can mouse over it and click the arrow. then, you c

    Sequence of Events
    2007-10-26 15:54:00
My company has no strategy, a mission statement that doesn't really make sense and a executive staff that is comprised of 60+ year old, overpaid lumps. When it comes to actually making decisions or improvements everything moves at a snail's pace. However there are a few things my company executes with precision. There are 3 events that somehow always come together, on time, quickly and in exact sequence. These 3 events are, in order:1. United Way "guilt meetings"2. Pay Increases (if you want to call them that)3. Benefit Open EnrollmentBasically we start with mandatory United Way meetings, which I refer to as "Guilt Meetings". You have to sit through 1 to 2 hours of hearing about sob stories and watching videos. I don't want to sound heartless because I do feel bad for the children and people that are impacted by the United Way. I just resent the fact that these meeting are mandatory and that I'm felt that I have to give or I'm considered a bad person. Then you have these rumor spreaders that comment about how our president personally looks at the list of United Way contributions to see who did and didn't give. My company treats the employees, including myself, like shit on a daily basis, if anyone needs help it's us.The next event that directly follows the United Way "guilt meetings" is the announcement of pay increases. My company is shrewd in that they wait til you have already pledged an amount to the United Way, and only after that timeframe the pay increases are announced. This year my increase was 1.2%, which is incredibly poor. It amounts to about $14 per week. My boss is emotionless as he gives me the increase and doesn't even thank me for my effort. And finally the benefits enrollment period. This follows the pay increase announcement and is a time in which all employees learn how my company is again going to jack up the cost of benefits. Usually something like eye care or dental care takes a real hit as we get a new provider that no doctor in the ar

On the potential events of tomorrow
    2007-10-18 05:56:22
One week later, we have somehow gone from peaceful protests to wildfire-rumors about acts of violence, supposedly occurring tomorrow. Parents are panicking and refusing to let their kids go to school. Others just think it would be pointless attending if we’re just going to go into lockdown mode and stay that way forever.
