| What is a reasonable expectation for 2008? | | 2008-06-04 06:00:02 | |
Wow! June 4 and there is real football stuff to report.
Reporters were allowed to watch Tuesday's Giants workout, which was part of their OTAs. Mike Garafolo of the Star-Ledger and Ralph Vacchiano of the Daily News each have practice reports.
As Garafolo wrote, "The title defense has officially begun."
With that line hanging there, this is as good a time as any to discuss expectations for the upcoming season. Coming off a Super Bowl title what would qualify as a good 2008 season? What would qualify as a disappointing one?
Please don't give me that George Steinbrenner "Nothing short of another title is acceptable" nonsense. Yankee fans should know by now that that is an unreasonable standard that generally leaves you feeling unsatisfied.
Let's be realistic. The Super Bowl run was a highlight Giants' fans will never forget. It's also one we had no reasonable right to expect. With a couple of weeks left in the regular season we were wondering if the Giants were even playoff material.

| Dollar rose ahead of FOMC and expectation for a “pause” in US interest rate cutting | | 2008-04-30 08:00:24 | | The Dollar rose to an almost one-month high versus the Euro on Tuesday, buoyed by growing views the Federal Reserve is ready to signal a pause in its interest rate cutting-campaign and by weak European economic data. Analysts expect the FOMC to cut the benchmark lending rate by 25bp to 2% and indicate a pause for now, after an aggressive exercise that has cut rates by 300bp since mid-September. While markets are expecting a slightly hawkish tone in the FOMC's statement accompanying the rate decision, poor economic data from the euro zone raised doubts on the ECB's ability too maintain its tough stance on inflation and interest rates. The Sterling was hurt by a warning from policy-maker David Blanchflower that Britain faced a real risk of recession unless the Bank of England took "aggressive" action.News and Events:The Dollar rose to an almost one-month high versus the Euro on Tuesday, buoyed by growing views the Federal Reserve is ready to signal a pause in its interest rate cutting-ca... | | By: All About Investiment | | |

| Euro rallies up to 1.6019 on expectation ECB may raise rates | | 2008-04-23 10:10:29 | | Euro rose against the Dollar on Tuesday trading above 1.6000 for the first time since its 1999 inception amid growing expectations that the European Central Bank's next move may be an interest rate hike. ECB Governing Council Member Christian Noyer said the bank would do what is needed to bring inflation back to its target of just below 2%, adding that the central bank would move rates if needed. That followed comments from Governing Council member Yves Mersch, who said the ECB has to ask itself each month whether a rate rise is needed to control inflation. ECB is seen keeping rates at least at a six-year high of 4% for a while. In contrast, markets expect the Federal Reserve to lower benchmark US rates further from the current 2.25% at a policy meeting on April 29-30. US economic data on Tuesday showed the housing market remains soft, with existing home sales falling 2% last month to 4930k. The Bank of Canada cut its benchmark interest rate by 50bp as expected.News and Events:Euro ros... | | By: All About Investiment | | |

| Birthdays, Edition “Expectation” | | 2007-04-09 18:16:13 | |

Rumor has it that I turned 16 today. Fifteen one day, 16 the next– it doesn’t make any sense at all, does it. I’m only a day older.
But that’s logical, and logic has no place on a birthday, especially one so neat and square* as to be called sweet. So fine then. I’m a year older.
They say I should be throwing a big birthday bash, something to be remembered for good or for evil. I should invite all my friends over and get lots of presents and hugs and other such things, including possibly a learner’s permit. I should spend the entire day feeling happy to be alive, and even happier to be 16, and I should take a million photos to post here for all to see, and I should spend hours writing excitedly in my journal about the things that happened, and I should go to bed late wishing that the day would never end.
And I should walk around feeling changed, as though a mature and adult-like mass of neurons had been grafted onto my brain, r... | | By: Circadian Rhythms | | |
