| | Has the American Dream Become a Fairy Tale? | | 2008-06-12 04:16:00 | | Laura RowleyOnce upon a time there was a greedy young man with shiny wingtips and important degrees. His father, an advisor to the king, had paid the young man's way through an Ivy League college and got him a job managing the village's pension investments. The greedy young man went to his magic mirror and said, "Mirror, mirror, I'm at the top of my field, I'm entitled to a higher yield. I'd like to earn that yield today, so I get a bonus with my pay. Tell me now, because here's the thing -- I'm really entitled to earn more than the king."The mirror replied, "Call Wall Street please, and invest in mortgage-backed securities. Don't worry whether the yield will last, this way you'll get your bonus fast."And the greedy young man went on television, where the media declared him a genius. The Investment Banker Once upon a time there was a greedy investment banker with shiny high heels and important Ivy League degrees. | | Prada has me wishing for the moolah fairy.. | | 2008-05-21 17:38:00 | | I think I have probably seen the "it" bag for 2008: the "Prada Fairy Bag". The moment I saw it I fell off my chair and simply had to have this bag which is a true fashion statement. The ink design is authentic…oh yes! The bag is actually stained with ink. I googled more info about it and read that some people claim this bag bleeds (the ink) when it comes in contact with water. Could it be? Yes... Sadly so true!!But... only the first batch which was made. After people went to the stores and complained asking for refunds they fixed this "issue" so rest assured that chances of getting these faulty bags are pretty much slim to nothing.I mean who wants topay over $2,000 for a bag and then have it look like a kindergarten kid's art project? Now it’s made complete with a protective treatment, so you can still look fly in the rain! The bigger one I love.. but if you google the smaller one it's also toooo cute!!! | | First Annual World Fairy Festival This Weekend | | 2008-05-03 10:16:59 | | An Email from Doreen VirtueWorld Fairy Festival, May 3 and 4, 2008 This time of year has long been regarded as a sacred holy celebration in Celtic traditions. Beltaine is a time of honoring Mother Nature, of heralding springtime, and celebrating the spirit of the environment. So it’s fitting that we are linked internationally for World Fairy Festival on Beltaine weekend, connecting with the nature angels . . . also known as the fairies. The fairies represent the pure power and life force energy of Earth and all of her inhabitants. Think of them as the Knights and Guardians who protect Mother Earth. The fairies are the overseers and healers of the air, land, water, and beings of the Earth. The more of us who believe in the fairies, the more power they have to heal and protect our precious planet. In the past, fairies have been feared and maligned as untrustworthy or filled with mischief. Well, the fairies ARE fun-loving, with the emphasis on the word LOVING. The fairies remind us that o | | By: Spiritual Village | | |
| | First Annual World Fairy Festival - Message From The Angels | | 2008-04-30 22:34:59 | | In conjunction with the upcoming First Annual World Fairy Festival, here is a message from the angels by Doreen Virtue. Remember to mark your diaries and be there! Clairaudience: Hearing Your Angels' MessagesMonday, 31 March 2008 21:30By Doreen Virtue From the angels: We aren't that difficult to hear if you will listen for us with an open heart. Most of the time, we are closer to you than you can imagine. A whisper, a thought, is the only signal we need from you to get a conversation started. We have enormous respect for what you're going through here on planet Earth at this time. We never seek to interfere with your lives, only to bring you blessings of insights and new ways of looking at yourselves. Not everyone "hears" angelic voices as an audible sound. Many people receive divine messages through nonverbal means such as visions, feelings, or a knowingness. Hearing the voice of God and the angels is called "clairaudience," which means "clear hearing." The voic | | By: Spiritual Village | | |
| | More Fairy Food. | | 2008-04-29 14:34:00 | | April 30 ...Yesterday’s find of eighteenth century Fairy Butter delighted me, although I am not sure why – perhaps because it is a is a fun recipe from a time when cookbook writers were not at all frivolous. What do fairies eat, really? I have no idea, but I am informed that if you leave food out for them, should there appear to be any leftovers next morning - avoid the temptation to scoff them yourself – do not even feed them to the domestic animals, - for the fairies have taken all the substance from your gift. As for Fairy Butter, it appears that fairies do indeed have a thing for that mellow yellow grease. On May Day (tomorrow), they are entitled to steal any butter left unattended – so unless you can keep your eye on your fridge all day tomorrow, it might be best to use all your butter up today. Have a baking frenzy. Have a Fairy Party. Here are a couple of entirely appropriate recipes to keep you busy. Fairy Fancies. For this pretty, fanciful pastry, make a go | | By: The Old Foodie | | |
| | Behind the First Annual World Fairy Festival 2008 | | 2008-04-19 05:05:32 | | Since I posted the article about the First Annual World Fairy Festival, I received a fair bit of enquiries about the myth of "fairies" and the upcoming festival. Here is an article from the Malaysia Official Website promoting this Festival:The Story Behind the World Fairy FestivalArticle source: http://worldfairyfestivalmalaysia.wordpress.com/about-world-fairy-festival/In the spiritual world, fairies (elementals/elemental realms) are actually nature’s angels who protect our air, water, land, plants, and animals, keeping our planet green. It is believed the more we are willing to believe in fairies, the more power they have to help our environment. However even if fairies are still part of your make-believe rainbow and unicorns world, it doesn’t matter. As long as you have love for Mother Nature, it is all that matters. The goal of World Fairy Festival is to educate about the reality of the natural world, and how the energies of fairies can improve our well-being and heal the Earth. | | By: Spiritual Village | | |

| | Fairy Tales | | 2008-02-19 23:04:05 | | A parents group I belong to jokes about Disney’s willingness to kill off all the mothers in their movies. I made an offhand remark to Princess at lunch one day about it. She was totally surprised! She went through all our animated movies in her head and realized it was true, and she’d never even noticed. Even those protagonists who had mothers weren’t with them -Sleeping Beauty was sent away to be raised, and Dumbo’s mother was incarcerated. The only exception was Mulan. Why? she asked. I told her it was because mothers tended to protect children from the trouble they get into in fairy tales. And that made me realize that Disney is doing it right. We can tell our kids that the frightening things that happen in fairy tales could never happen to you, because mama protects you. Maybe cinema matricide isn’t such a bad idea after all! | | Humans Do Not Need to Comfort Themselves With Fairy Tales | | 2008-01-24 03:14:34 | |
A response to Peter Bowden’s “God, Atheism, and Human Needs”
Kelly O’Connor
Jan. 24, 2008
The idea that human beings universally need some form of mythological belief has been one of the mainstays of the defenders of faith for centuries. They claim that even if god doesn’t exist or religion causes violence and hatred, it’s acceptable because it makes some people feel better about the harsh realities of life. This is a multi-pronged deceptive ploy used to abdicate themselves from any responsibility for those actions and to keep people thinking that their assertion is correct.

| | Rumble: End of the Fairy Tale | | 2007-08-14 15:10:00 | | Well, after St.Kitts, we started heading back. First to St.Barths for two days again (a nice 45 miles sail, with the wind 60 degrees off the bow), followed by a 15 miles broad reach back to Oyster Bay - St.Martin, to return the chartered sailboat. If you want some kind of challenge in your life, try entering Oyster Bay in a 30 knots wind with a 4 meter swell, and with the main sail up (just in case the engine fails). First of all, even as you enter, you see nothing but huge white foamed waves crashing on the reef, just in front of the marina's entrance.... You have to zigzag between two reefs, blindly following one green and three red marker buoys then sail through a narrow entrance, and drop the main sail in some free space - the size of a handkerchief - in the port...Anyway, it was fun.As we are closing this series of holiday posts, here are some last pictures:Hannah on Road Bay's beach (Anguilla)Road Bay's dinghy dock (Anguilla)The girls on Sandy Island (Anguilla)View from the breakf | | By: The Road to the Horizon | | |

It wasn’t hard to figure out why. I have two daughters, ages 10 and almost-9. The Fairy Chronicles had them at hello. It’s a good thing they sent two books, or otherwise, we’d have a war going on! A couple of days later, I was “allowed” to read the first book myself, after Princess was finished. Gothgrrl is finished with the second book and impatient to read the first one. They assured me I would enjoy them. When I asked what the first book was about, Princess launched into an excruciatingly detailed synopsis that was still going when school started. Yeah, they liked what they read. They were disappointed to learn they’d have to wait til July to get the third and fourth books. Santa Claus was an impossible myth for my parents to perpetuate with all of our older, wiser friends. But the tooth fairy? She was practically a member of the family. My mother had created an entire background story and personality for our dear fairy. Her name was Maxine and she lived on Staten Island. Since we lived in Connecticut, Maxine took the Staten Island Ferry and then the commuter train to reach our house, explaining why she always arrived so late at night. No wings for our fairy. Those of us lucky enough to loose a tooth would sometimes hear her in the hall outside our bedroom, pleading with my mother to not have to come in. Maxine was shy and didn’t want to bother us poor children. We’d hear her obnoxious New York accent and my mom’s polished English going back and forth until finally my mother would relent and sneak into our rooms to retrieve the tooth for her.I adored Maxine's emotional vi | | By: Hollywood Flakes: Get 'em While They're Hot | | |
