| Tiki Barber - Hall of Fame? | | 2008-06-27 15:02:50 | |
This discussion has been brought up before in other forums, but I'm not sure if it's hit here at BBV. There's obviously a little bad blood and hurt feelings between some Giants fans and players regarding Tiki Barber, but looking back at his career I think it's valid question to wonder whether Tiki Barber is worthy of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. This might even seem like a crazy premise, until you consider Eric Dickerson has already been enshrined, so really anything could happen. In full disclosure, I was and still am a huge Tiki Barber fan. I was rooting for him while he was a Virginia Cavalier, and I was thrilled when he was picked by my hometown NFL team. So, you already know which side of the fence I stand on.I think the first hurdle to clear is what the player meant to his team. Tiki Barber owns a bevy of team records, from career rushing touchdowns (55) to Most 1,000 yard seasons (6). Tiki Barber is also only the third player in NFL | | By: Big Blue View
| Broncos' Consistency Speaks For Itself; Hall of Fame Still Reeks | | 2008-06-24 10:28:15 | |
So, I was thumbing through the Broncos 2008 Media Guide and came across an interesting bit of information, right on the first page. It was a picture of the 2 Vince Lombardi Trophies, along with 6 AFC Conference Championship trophies, and below were several statistics that showed how the Broncos have fared since 1970, when the AFL and NFL officially merged. That is 38 years of history heading into this season.
Let's take a look at some important stats when it comes to how successful a team has been over the past 4 decades --

| | MHR Broncos History Lesson - Ring of Fame -- Class of 1984 | | 2008-06-11 17:01:27 | |
Welcome to the final edition of MHR Bronco's History for 2008. Officially anyway, I may write a few posts into this section during the regular season. I hope you've enjoyed reading this series of posts as much as I have enjoyed researching and writing them! I look forward to continuing the history lessons come next offseason.
One of the biggest topics of general discussion around here during the reloading season is the vaunted(or notorious) Hall of Fame. It's a topic that generates the most discussion and much ire in the MHR Community. It took the Hall of Fame 43 years to induct a Denver Bronco into their exclusive club. Luckily, we only had to wait another five or so to get another Bronco into the Hall. The problem is that there are at least a half dozen former Bronco players that should be honored in the Hall of Fame.

Time to get ready for the onslaught of attention and admirers that success in this business attracts. I’m not looking forward to the prying eyes of the paparazzi, they are so intrusive but the public created the paparazzi. The public demands info on celebrities and the famous, the paparazzi is only suppling what the public wants. Still I kinda hate them. well now they will be aiming and following me, it comes with the entertainment territory and I accept it totally. Still I hate it, though.Prediction: my album will change the music industry, it will be #1 on the billboard charts, it will make me and instant millionaire - this and more will my debut album do. I truly believe that this album is going to do thses things, and in so doing change my quiet live forever. | | Guru's Point: The Hall of Fame | | 2008-06-01 22:03:51
Fans might need to try and do more to help get these Broncos in the Hall. Unfortunately, even those efforts might not be enough. I recently read a great article from 2006 about Floyd Little and the lack of Broncos in the Hall of Fame.
Little is very humble about it, just the way we as fans pride ourselves in our team. Check out these Floyd Little quotes…they’re even somewhat sad. I’m not going into the debate on who should or shouldn’t be in the Hall here, I’m simply talking about the lack of Broncos in the Hall: something all of us at MHR have thought about.
"Forget about Floyd Little, the [Hall of Fame] has already forgotten about me,'' he said. "But how do you go to six Super Bowls and only have one representative? That's disrespectful to overlook our players. My concern today is Denver.''
- The guy’s humble and he’s loyal to this team and just as pissed as a lot of us: just as pissed as us fans

She looked verrrry familiar, I thought..."OMIGOD, it's TATA YOUNG~~!!!!" I squealed to myself and quickly followed her to her seat. She was wearing ballet flats, leggings, a baggy shirt and scarf around her neck, her tea-colored hair tied up in a loose bun.I mustered enough courage and sat next to her."Excuse me," I said in English (I know she speaks English very well, her being a "luuk khreung") and in my best "normal" voice (which still sounded like a frog stuck in my throat UGH~!!)."Kha~??" she inquired in her high-spirited, peppy voice."You're Tata Young, right~?? | | Simms, Bavaro Hall of Fame worthy? | | 2008-05-26 06:00:02
Sports Illustrated's Dr. Z, Paul Zimmerman, is out with a look through the Preliminary List of Hall of Fame candidates. With the help of retired Packers GM Ron Wolf, it's an interesting read.
There are two Giants who are on the list -- Phil Simms and Mark Bavaro. Wolf's take? No shot for Simms. Wolf thinks, though, that Bavaro has the best shot of any of the tight ends on a list that includes Ben Coates and Todd Christenson.
I love both of these guys, of course. Quite honestly, though, I don't believe either one of them belongs in the Hall of Fame.
Let's look at the Hall of Fame candidacies of both players.
Phil Simms
I'm too young to remember YA Tittle and Charlie Conerly, so when I think of an all-time great Giants quarterback, Simms is the man. Simms, of course, had the legendary 22-of-25 performance in Super Bowl XXI. He was a quality quarterback, a tough guy, a great leader and a very good quarterback. But great? Not quite.

| | Miley Cyrus Feels The Pressure Of Fame! | | 2008-05-25 07:49:50 | | Miley Cyrus feels the pressure of fame – especially after Vanity Fair published a semi-topless photo of the 15-year-old, according to co-star Anna Maria Perez de Tagle."Sometimes I'll talk to her on the phone and she'll be like, 'It's really hard' or 'I'm really tired. I can't do this,'" Perez de Tagle told E! "But I'll always say, 'You do want to do this. You love your job.' And she's like, 'Yeah,'" the actress added. The Vanity Fair portrait "really hurt her inside," said Perez de Tagle. "She didn’t know that people would look at it like that." After Cyrus apologized and said she was embarrassed when the photo was released, Bill O'Reilly blamed her dad for putting "her into a situation where she becomes, at 15, a sex symbol."Production is under way for the Hannah Montana movie, which hits screens in 2009.For the complete gallery click hereCheck out our forum (AC-Forum.tk) for many more posts

| | | Teenage Sex and Fame | | 2008-05-14 09:58:08 | | Last month on our journey back from London, a 7-years-old girl was sitting next to me restlessly, and in between her non-stop chatting to her mum who looked desperately could use some extra hours of sleeping and her tiny fingers which were busy pressing her pink Playstation Portable to kill whatever enemy she fought against, she was singing. Not the Barney purple dinosaur song or any song a normal pre-teens would sing, but Girls Aloud's new single Can't Speak French. Her mum, finally given up sleeping and joined the conversation, said that her beloved daughter wants to be an actress. Not a doctor, a lawyer, or an architect, but an actress. Being a pragmatic lady, mum said it's not going to be easy. A dreamer and a kid, the 7-years-old said it's easy (according to her friend who had scored some gigs in local theater) and believed she's going to make it. Pr | | By: Azzurro | | |

| | Andre Reed a Finalist for Hall of Fame | | 2008-01-15 16:35:41 | | Photo Source Former Bills wide receiver Andre Reed - one of the most prolific receivers in NFL and franchise history - has made a list of 17 finalists for this year's Hall of Fame inductions. Reed, along with former Bills wideout and special teams ace Steve Tasker, were eligible for the list; Tasker did not make the cut onto the final list, however. Reed finished his prolific career with 951 receptions, 13,198 yards and 83 scores. He finished his career as a Redskin (where he made 10 receptions in his final season), but the 15 years that Reed spent in Buffalo saw him develop from a fourth-round pick from tiny Kutztown University (PA) into one of the most explosive offensive threats of his era. Reed, along with QB Jim Kelly and RB Thurman Thomas (both Hall of Fame members themselves) were the biggest stars on the Bills teams that made four straight Super Bowl appearances. To cap his achievements, Reed was named an NFL All-Pro four times and was voted into seven Pro Bowls. While it's certainly an honor for Reed to make it this far, he has some stiff competition at wideout amongst the finalists. Two former star wideouts - Viking Cris Carter and Redskin Art Monk - were statistically just as impressive as Reed was, and will likely garner more votes considering Carter did what he did without a Hall of Fame quarterback, while Monk has been held out of the Hall for many years. The chances are therefore low that Reed actually gets inducted into Canton in '08; this is a prime opportunity, however, to raise our glasses once again to one of the best Bills players in franchise history. Good luck, Andre; Buffalo is pulling for you. | | By: Buffalo Rumblings | | |

User generated videos has become so popular that everybody is into it, and some TV shows are even featuring people they have discovered in YouTube, like that fan of Britney of cried his heart out on YouTube. It's easy to be entertained by user generated videos because they're candid and you can easily relate with the person because like us, they're pretty average. | | My 15 Minutes of Fame as an eBay PowerSeller | | 2008-01-09 21:29:00 | | Yes, here's some shameless self-promotion! I had a short-lived stint as an eBay PowerSeller last spring... um, before they made it easy to become a PowerSeller! The standard used to be that you had to show $1000 a month in sales for 3 months to qualify for PowerSeller status, then of course you had to maintain it to keep it. They have since made it easier for vendors to get PS status by allowing then to qualify by volume rather than dollar amount. So now the standard is $1000/mo. or 100 units sold regardless of dollar amount which in a way is a joke. A guy who sells 100 99-cent ebooks gets the much coveted PS logo next to his eBay ID, while the person who sells 90 $10 t-shirts falls short!Yeah, I'm whining! Well, at least I can boast that I got my PS certificate the old-fashioned way. Hey, I got a new (used) conversion van in the driveway to show for it too! So there is money to be made on eBay. And yes, I am not ashamed to say that I plan to sell ebooks to recover my PS status once again.I've been selling on eBay since 2003. My Beagalulu T-Shirts and More eBay Store had a short stint in the beginning. I closed the store for a short time to reorganize. But I reopened in September 2006 and have had pretty consistent sales since then. My initial investment to open the store last fall was about $400 in inventory, but it didn't take me long to recover my investment, make enough money pay all my seller and Paypal fees, plus have a little left over. By mid-November 2006, I had enough saved up to pay for a week long car rental and 3 fares for a Grand Canyon tour when my husband and I went to Vegas to get married last year. After that, I started saving up for a new vehicle, since my old one was about to die. By June I had enough saved up to buy a '93 Ford e150 loaded hi-top conversion van with only 67,000 miles on it. Sweet!Ok, I admit... eBay isn't my road to millions, but it's been a decent supplemental income. My store is self-sustaining and I have | | By: ShopDogDiaries

And we all know about Jim Ed Rice, once one of the most feared hitters in all of baseball. The conditions are better than they ever have been or will be for his induction. This is from the Hartford Courant's ace sportswriter, Jeff Jacobs. He is my favorite sports scribe...."Gossage should roar into the Hall of Fame. Rice, a power hitter, should slide into the Hall of Fame barely under the tag of the naysayers.Gossage won 124 games, saved 310 and struck out 1,502 batters in 1,809 innings. He had 52 saves of at least seven outs. Mariano Rivera has one. With a 100 mph fastball, he was a two-inning knockout artist.Arguing Rice's qualifications has become as much a New England winter pastime as counting Patriots Super Bowl rings. I'm not going to bore you with all the talking points beyond saying Rice, who goes off the ballot after next year, deserves it in a close call."52 saves of seven outs or more! Wow!! Well said, Jeff. I'm rooting for both of them, because they DESERVE to be there. If Jim Ed did not suffer from nearsightedness, which affected his hitting and outfield defense in his later years, he would have played two more seasons, at least. And with those kind of numbers, he would already be a member of baseball's elite club. The Goose is a lock for today's vote, much like Obama is in New Hampshire. And yes, Obama IS a lock. He will make Hillary cry yet again.Speaking of the Hall, Roger Clemens, who will appear before a Congressional hearing next week, had this to say. Remember, he knows baseball's history and revels in it. For him to say this was unfathomable to me. Here you go..."Do you think I played my career because I'm worried about the damn Hall of Fame?" When we moved from Colorado, the ISP account which hosted the pages featuring African-Canadian and American players was canceled, so I apologize to those who have been looking for the pages in vain. I've re-published them in a new location. Please help spread the link. Thanks to those who have asked for an update.

| | Worst Villain Makes the Hall of Fame | | 2007-12-04 11:05:00 | | The Veterans Committee yesterday announced their selections of who was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame for 2008 yesterday. They elected former commissioner Bowie Kuhn, former Red Sox manager Dick Williams, oldtime Pirates owner Barney Dreyfuss, and manager Billy Southworth to the Hall (and curiously passed on Marvin Miller, who changed the game forever in the 1960s and 1970s as head of the players union). And oh yes, one other man was elected. Walter O'Malley.Or as he's still called around these parts by the old timers: Sonofabitch O'Malley.I know the reasons he was picked. He opened Major League Baseball to the West Coast by moving the Dodgers to Los Angeles in 1958 (and the Giants to San Francisco by convincing Horace Stoneham to go). He took an enormous chance by doing this, and it made the Dodgers one of the richest teams in the game. They won four World Series with him as owner. I'm sure all of his defenders will point to those reasons why he merited inclusion at Coopersto | | By: The Mighty Quinn Media Machine | | |

| | Jane Avril, One Woman's Tale of Fame and Poverty | | 2007-09-25 22:58:41 | | The fear of poverty and obscurity runs deep in the minds of many women. Decisions to marry, leave a career, provide sacrificial support of a spouse's career, raise children and caring for family are some of the reasons women find themselves in vulnerable situations. "[O]ver their working lifetimes, women spend a total of 11 ½ years off the job on average, versus only 16 months for men."*One woman's tale of fame ended in extreme poverty. Jane Avril, a famous Parisian can-can dancer was one of the most famous dancers of her time. You've probably seen her depicted in Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec's posters or as Nicole Kidman's character in the 2001 movie, Moulin Rouge. She was a woman everyone adored and she brought in large crowds as she performed on stage. Yet, when she died, she had no money and no support.Jane stopped dancing when she married a German artist and became pregnant. She cut herself off from her previous career and did not have a suitable replacement way to earn money.Have you ever cut yourself off from a financially profitable job or career to tend to family duties? That is exactly what Jane did and when her husband died, she had very little of her own savings to sustain her. Even though Jane Avril lived in Paris in the early 1900's, her story is told over and over again in the lives of women we know today. So how can we avoid her fate? The answer is to protect yourself and plan for the future. Women need to have a strong understanding of how to manage money. I am not referring to paying the bills. I mean that we need to learn how to invest in stocks, real estate, or businesses. We need to know what bank accounts we have and we have to actively manage them. If you take time off from your career, then develop another source of cash flow. With the help of a broker or on your own, invest in the stock market or other similar products. By taking proactive steps to ensure your financial security, you can avoid the sad fate of Jane Avril. If you take time o | | By: Famiss - Women's Success Literature & History | | |

| | Hard Work For Hall of Fame Snub Starting To Pay Off | | 2007-08-02 23:54:27 | | While we didn't receive any official credit I know we had something to do with it. A few days ago, Mike Sando, who is filling in for Matt Mosely over at Hashmarks wrote a post asking for who we thought should be in the Hall that wasn't. As part of the article he was writing he spoke to Randy Gradishar, the biggest HOF omission in sports. Of course, taking any opportunity to further the Broncos cause in Canton, I submitted the following comment -- Gradishar is the most rediculus ommision in any sports hall of fame anywhere. The guy was just as good as any of the Steeler linebackers that have already made the Hall, and had he not played "way out in Denver" would be a household name. The NFL should quiz the yahoos that vote for the Hall to make sure they understand there WAS a National Football League before 1985 and yes the players "way back then" were pretty damn good. Earlier that day, Santo had specifically asked about Rod Smith, and his Hall worthiness.   | | By: Mile High Report | | |

| | | | | | Hall Of Fame Or Not? - You Decide | | 2007-06-30 21:10:56 | | Here we are about one month before the NFL Hall of Fame in Canton, which is more or less the unofficial kickoff to the upcoming NFL season. As a way to pass the time (and hopefylly give you something to ponder), I submit to you some current active NFL players who may have a shot at being inducted. I graded on the following system: A Lock, Good Chance, Too Early To Tell, and Don’t Think So.
As always, the views here are not necessarily those of NFL GRIDIRON GAB. Here they are:
1- Shaun Alexander, RB, Seattle
Grade - Good Chance
Right now, he is 25th alltime in rushing yardage. Now if he can revert to 2005 standards and stay healthy (his foot), then he can possibly get in.
2- Larry Allen, OG, San Francisco
Grade - A Lock
He was, during his tenure at Dallas, probably the best guard in the game. Canton awaits him.
3- Champ Bailey, CB, Denver
Grade - A Lock
We know already what he can do. He will be a 10 year player in a couple of years, so as | | By: NFL GridIron Gab

There was little doubt that Messier would make it into the Hall in this, his first year of eligibility. If Messier was really good at something during his 25 years as a player in the NHL, it was leading his teammates on the ice. He is considered one of the greatest leaders in the history of the league, but he was also one of the classiest, if by "classy" I actually mean "kind of gross". Kind of gross in that he's a dirty old man who really, really likes strip clubs."The Messiah's" total points are second on the all-time list, but when it comes to actually scoring, he leads all other players in Most Embarrassing Strip Club Appearances with two. Have begun to question the quality of juries in this country - supposedly made up by our peers. I wonder if they are ever composed of peers. I hope not mine - for instance: O.J. Simpson… acquitted; Robert Blake… acquitted; Scooter Libby… guilty; Border agents doing their jobs… guilty. And there are other faulty verdicts.
Now we have someone called Phil Specter - another celebrity, who no doubt will be, by the jury, sitting in judgement on him. There are others escaping even having to go to trial, such as: Pockets Berger, Gary Condit, Harry Reid, Barney Frank, etc. President Bush is being blamed for not signing the Kyoto Treaty, but prior to his election, during Clinton’s administration, the Senate voted 95 to nothing not to approve. How does this make Bush responsible? Then we have the Sudan, with all the ethnic cleansing and deaths. It was also this way under Clinton, but they were not blaming Clinton.
