    2008-08-20 12:55:39
O’burger, the first organic fast food restaurant opened in LA. The beef comes from grass-fed cows, the turkey burgers all come from free-range, grass fed turkeys and the veggie patties are vegan-friendly and made in-house from corn, oats and vegetables. According to O’burger, “if its edible, its organic.” “From Ray Kroc to Alice Waters, California has [...]

    A Fast Food Ban?
    2008-08-20 01:48:00
Honestly, if it isn’t one thing it is another.  This goes back to the post the other day about taking responsibility for your own health.  Well, I guess Southern L.A. doesn’t believe that it can be done and have decided to do something about it.  Check this out… Big Brother is watching you! And if you happen to live in Southern Los Angeles, he is also keeping a close eye on the restaurants in your neighborhood. The City Council in Los Angeles unanimously voted to place a halt on the development of new fast food restaurants in areas of Southern and Southeast Los Angeles. The moratorium would affect a 32-square-mile region of the city with about 500,000 residents. Many of the residents of South Los Angeles don’t own cars, so they have limited access to fresh, healthy food. The ruling is intended to help attract healthier restaurants to this part of the city and give city planners enough time to analyze the current development trends. Accor

    Fast Food German Style
    2008-08-18 08:30:00
"You know I like to complain about waiters and their poor service, but this is ridiculous! I wonder if they automated the banquet manager too". Read on...Germany likes to call itself the "Land of Ideas" - and over the centuries it has certainly had plenty of them. It was Germans who invented the aspirin, the airship, the printing press and the diesel engine. But Germany has surely never produced anything quite as weird as the automated restaurant. I say "restaurant" - but it actually looks more like a rollercoaster, with long metal tracks criss-crossing the dining area. The tracks run all the way from the kitchen, high up in the roof, down to the tables, twisting and turning as they go. And down the tracks - in little pots with wheels fixed to the bottom - speeds food. Supersonic sausages, high-pace pancakes and wine bottles whizzing down to the customers' tables with the help of good old gravity. One pot is spiralling down so fast, it looks like an Olympic bobsleigh (but it

Should Fast Food Be Banned From High-Fat Neighborhoods?
    2008-08-18 00:11:38
By Scott MowbrayThe rise of urban nutrition activism continues with the L.A. moratorium on new fast-food restaurants in South Los Angeles, a low-income area underserved by healthier-menu alternatives and decent supermarkets. Advocates argue that in an obesity epidemic, it’s fair game to block businesses that serve up fatty fare. Opponents counter that attempts to stifle free choice in a free market smack of paternalism and even racism. The National Restaurant Association is predictably bothered; it smells a rat in the fryer. Just Say No To Junk - Fast Food, It's Not That Easy!
    2008-08-13 02:12:00
Are you a junk food junkie? I was until a little over a year ago. I knew junk food and fast food was bad for me but didn't think I was doing much harm and I could quit anytime I wanted to. I did quit because I was drinking Alka Seltzer every day, always felt too tired to play with my son and could never stay awake for more than a few minutes after my son went to bed. My husband missed me.It has been a battle at times to say no to junk food, I still have a vice or two because I'm human. If you've thought of how much better you would feel by changing your diet Whole Food Nation might help.Whole Food Nation is for people who want to cut down on fast food and junk, but keep a favorite vice or two.We don’t believe in deprivation or yukky tasting food. Health Tip: Don't Overdo Fast Food
    2008-08-12 23:31:36
(HealthDay News) -- Fast food is a tempting option for hungry people on the run. But eating it too often or downing too much can wreak havoc on your health and waistline.Keep these tips in mind when considering fast food, provided by the U.S. National Library of Medicine:Fast foods are often high in calories, fat, sugar and salt. Many fast foods are cooked with high-calorie fats and butters. Fast food choices tend to lack fresh fruits and vegetables. The large portion sizes offered can encourage overeating. Many fast food restaurants have begun publishing nutritional information about their foods. In other cases, it is available on request. This information can help you better plan what you order.

    Home Cooked vs. Fast Food
    2008-08-08 18:20:03
Thanks to a spate of films and TV shows about fast food — Supersize Me and Big Medicine come to mind — the perils of fast food have been spotlighted. Since we all lead busy lives, it’s often tempting to stop at the nearest fast food place instead of waiting to get home and cook. [...]

Kid's Get More Than A Toy With Fast Food Meals, Too Many Calories and Bad Fats.
    2008-08-05 01:31:00
Kid's meals at popular fast-food restaurants deliver more than a quick lunch or dinner -- 90 percent of them have far more than a meal's worth of calories and many are loaded with fat and salt too, according to a report released on Monday. The Center for Science in the Public Interest -- the group that took the fun out of movie popcorn and Chinese takeout by revealing the fat and calorie content of such treats -- said it is difficult to find anything remotely healthful for a child to eat at several restaurant chains.CSPI examined the menus at 13 popular restaurants that promote children's meals."Ninety-three percent of 1,474 possible choices at the 13 chains exceed 430 calories -- an amount that is one-third of what the Institute of Medicine recommends that children aged four through eight should consume in a day," the group said."People may not get a heart attack until their 50s or 60s, but arteries begin to clog in childhood," said CSPI nutrition policy director Margo Wootan. Banning Fast Food in Los Angeles: Thank you Big Government
    2008-08-03 15:36:29
I waited close to a week to write about the fact that Los Angeles decided to ban fast food restaurants. I predicted this for quite some time as many of you know. Once they started banning cigarettes in restaurants, there was no justification for them stopping at smoking. Still, what I certainly did not anticipate was the lack of public outcry by people who are now treated like infants. Not only was there a pathetic lack of moral outrage, but the Los Angeles counsel voted for this measure unanimously. Evidently, more and more people are accepting the argument that government should protect us from ourselves. It is really depressing.Essentially, the goal of this new ordinance was simple; the citizens were getting too fat because there were too many fast food chains in their neighborhoods (40% of all restaurants in poor neighborhoods), so this was the brilliant way to make people skinny. Consequently, instead of suggesting that people make better food choices, the stunning intellect

Some Great Healthy Food Choices At Fast Food Restaurants
    2008-07-29 00:00:00

Los Angeles City Council's "Fast Food Ban" Moratorium
    2008-07-15 10:35:00
    L. A. City Council is considering a moratorium to "ban" any more fast food locations from opening in the South Central and related Los Angeles areas. This is based on statistics that about 45% of the restaurants in Los Angeles are fast food joints. Big Brother is just watching out for you it seems. More of the "Government knows best..."It's all about making sure you stay healthy they say. Apparently, you are completely incapable of deciding what you can and can't eat. And you should not be allowed to make that choice either. I suppose they're still clinging to that age-old crap about obese people, smokers and the like being more costly to care for. So, they want to make sure you understand that you can't care for yourself.CNN had the audacity to then play a few clips of people who supposedly live in the South Central Los Angeles area. These whiners, were upset that there's no Trader Joe's or other types of grocery stores in their area, and had to travel all the way to Torrance to shop

My Summer Memories At Root Beer Stand, Teenager Cherished Rootbeer Soda Memories, Now Closed Replaced by Fast Food Chain

But about the memories that go along with drinking that flavor of soda that is very good with taste. We Are Bombarded With Fast Food Ads
    2008-06-18 10:00:00
Why do we eat so much fast food? Some people say it tastes better than healthy food, it's convenient and always available, it's cheap compared to buying groceries, no one has time to cook and my favorite reason; We are bombarded with TV ads for fast food!TV ads for fast food is a huge contributing factor in our eating choices. Don't believe me? I'll share what is going on in St. Paul Minnesota right now. The first Sonic fast food drive-in opened a week ago. Sonic is brand new for Minnesota – not for me because I grew up in Texas where there's a Sonic in every town. This Sonic was featured on the news because of the long lines and traffic cops needed to manage all the cars. People were waiting up to three hours to finally taste this fast food. Lines of cars were unbelievable – and people did it all with smiles on their face. Why?Why did all the customers wait so long and go through so much for this "fast food"?TV advertising in Minnesota for Sonic for 3 years prior to the big openin

    Fast Food Girl
    2008-06-17 00:00:00
She serves up burgers and fries, Fake smiles and happy lies, “Would you like a drink?” At least she doesn't have to think, Just take the money, give back the change, Don't worry if she's a little strange, She serves up burgers and fries, Fast food and happy lies. She wipes the tables, washes trays, Never has much to say, Ask her opinion she doesn’t know, "Is that for here, or do you want it to go?" That's what you get from a fast food girl, She lives in her own little world, Serving up burgers and fries, Fake smiles and happy lies. She sweeps the floor, gets out the mop, Cleans up other peoples slop, Clocks in at eight, clocks out at five, She knows she's only half alive, Knows in her heart there's so much more, Says goodnight as she walks out the door, Goes home smelling of burgers and fries, Serves fake smiles and happy lies.

    The Fast Food Health Threat
    2008-05-15 06:31:28
Few dietary trends have been or are as prominent, prevalent, and influential as the movement towards dining out in general and fast food in particular. Dating back as far as the 1940s with the birth of McDonald's the fast food trend continues unabated today, despite a modern wave of so-called "health initiatives." In spite of a slew of new diets, new exercise regimens, and even new lawsuits, statistics consistently show that the United States population - along with the populations of many developed countries - is getting fatter by the year.Causes of the Obesity CrisisWhy is fast food so harmful? The obvious and traditional answer is because of sheer caloric excess. A recent, 15-year study showed that young people between the ages of 18 and 30 who ate at least 2 fast food meals a week were, on average, 10 pounds fatter than those who did not. It's also no secret that fast foods are soaked in oil and fat, saturated with sodium and sugars, and designed with convenience and taste, rather

    Korean Fast Food
    2007-12-02 21:13:00
Since my favorite Korean Grandma shop closed, I haven't been able to get delivery of Korean food.Last night, I was desperate for some but had a major headache and didn't want to make the trek to K-town. I wined for about 30 minutes and then thought of the Korean fast food place Lon had ordered from when he used to work near by. Express Manna Kitchen Express Manna Kitchen is run by Korean people but seems to cater to Americans since it has given American names to many dishes on their menu. That already scares me, but I was desperate for Korean food so we gave it a shot. I ordered the Kalbi Tang (a beef rib soup with egg and glass noodles) and Lon ordered the Bulgolgi Donburi (classic Korean marinated bbq meat on top of rice). While neither was as good as the real thing, it satisfied my craving enough to hold me over. My beef rib didn't have much flavor and Lon's Bulgolgi was mega sweet but the portions are huge and their brown rice is the best. This is not a place I would recommend

Liberals Push to Ban Fast Food in South Los Angeles, California: Thank You Big Government
    2007-09-19 14:56:28
We predicted this happening better than Nostradamus ever could. As we have said hundreds of times over the last few months, big government liberals would attempt to ban fast food. Well, it appears that will happen in California. While many of you “healthy eaters” may feel indifferent about this decision, just wait when the government bans something you actually enjoy. Then it will be too late.“Amid worries of an obesity epidemic and its related illnesses, including high blood pressure, diabetes and heart disease, Los Angeles officials, among others around the country, are proposing to limit new fast-food restaurants -- a tactic that could be called health zoning.” The government is the only thing being overfed in this case. There is no better evidence that the government is stealing your money than when its officials have time to zone for fatty foods to protect you from yourself.Just read this insane quote from a brilliant liberal communist:"The people don't want them, bu

    Fast food my arse

I don't often eat fast food but when I do I want it fast, or there would be no point. So why is that that the humble chippy now has longer waiting times for the crap they sell than some of the posh restauraunts. I understand that they have to try and cut down on wastage, if only to bolster their already inflated profits, but to cook chips only when a customer walks in and asks for them is ludicrous. Its the same with fish, pies, puddings, name it. Now I don't like it but I would put up with it if it wasn't for the fact that if you order a pie or a pudding in the evening more often than not it will be an already warmed pie from the afternoon session, and that microwaved. Where once the mushy peas you bought in a supermarket were a pale imitation of the chippy peas, its now the other way round.I hate waiting If I wanted to wait I would go to Lounge 10 for a decent meal and enjoy a good wine whilst I waited. A friend of mine has a chippy so I know how hard it can be to make a living co

    Fast food calorie confusion
    2007-04-25 19:32:26
For those of us trying to eat healthy and cut down on our calorie intakes, eating at a fast food restaurant is not easy! The lean, low calorie choices offered are few and far between.A recent poll conducted by public health advocates in California showed that it may even be more difficult than you had thought. In the poll, 523 people were given sample menu items from Denny's, Chili's, McDonald's and Romano's Macaroni Grill. They were asked to identify the foods which contained the most calories, the fewest calories, and the lowest salt and fat content. There were four questions, each identified the name of the food only.Guess what? NO ONE, and I emphasize NO ONE, got all four of the answers correct. In fact, 2/3's answered all four questions wrong! The executive director of the California Center for Public Health Advocacy, Harold Goldstein, who holds a doctorate in public health, missed every single answer in the quiz! Now if the professionals are confused, its

Fast-food chains in Australia to curb trans fat
    2007-03-16 00:09:50
I just got around to reading this article, at first I thought okay thats a start, then as I kept reading I became very annoyed. Heres a snippet of what our Assistant Health Minister Christopher Pyne and the Heart Foundation communications manager Monique Blunden had to say:Mr Pyne said Australians consumed 0.6 per cent of their daily kilojoules as trans fats. "While we are doing well, I would still like to get that level down further and the reliance on saturated fats down also," he said. "It is important when we reduce trans fats in our food supply that we do it in the context of a balanced diet. "We don't wish to decrease trans fats by returning to the use of saturated fats such as palm oil, tallow and lard." Heart Foundation communications manager Monique Blunden said dealing with the use of trans fats was important because of the amount of people who ate fast-food every day. This deep-fried bowl of bullshit packs 860 calories, 46 grams of total fat, 14 grams of which are saturated fat.No wonder they have gained this nickname:Also in recent news, here's what Taco Bell's most well known spokesperson had to say about their hiring practices:7.) Stuffed Crust Meat Lover’spie - Two slices of this will stuff you with 1,000 calories, 82 grams of total fat, 22 grams of it saturated. I don't eat stuffing cause they kill turkeys to make it." I guess those puppies are getting harder to cover up every day.6.) Cinnabon Caramel Pecanbon - This gooey pastry
