GoodmanStudying the martial arts makes you tough, able to confront and overcome fear.By accepting and delivering force, and by practicing your kicks and strikes and parries and grabs you become more courageous, right?Maybe, and maybe not!I say maybe not because there could be something much more basic at work that is helping you to overcome your phobias and to become a more confident person. What is it, if it isn’t the ac...

Addressing The Fears And Feelings Associated With Weight Loss
    2008-08-09 00:00:00
It seems a little strange that losing weight can entice feelings of fear. Fear doesn’t seem to have a place in such a constructive process. Usually weight loss is associated with both positive and negative feelings. The positive feelings are more obvious and understandable. You’re feeling better, have more energy, look better, fit in nicer [...]...

Hoggard fears for Test future after Pattinson call-up
    2008-07-20 17:09:00
Author: Cricky Posted: Sun Jul 20, 2008 5:09 pm Matthew Hoggard fears he may have played his last Test for England after former roof-tiler Darren Pattinson was dramatically plucked out of county cricket obscurity for a shock international debut at the Yorkshireman's Headingley home ground here Friday. With Ryan Sidebottom out with a back strain, England's selectors ignored the claims of Hoggard and fellow 2005 Ashes-winning quicks Stephen Harmison and Simon Jones as they chose their side for the second Test against South Africa. They even ignored first reserve Chris Tremlett to opt for the in-form Pattinson, born in Grimsby, northern England but brought up in Australia, who, at the age of 29, was appearing in just his 12th first-class match. Hoggard, dropped along with Harmison after England's first Test defeat away to New Zealan...

The space cadets (or scaremongers) are out in force Where is Doctor Who when you need him? Just as another series ends with the Doctor saving Earth from the Daleks (again), we are warned that Britain faces a “real life” alien invasion this summer. How mad is that? Well, maybe not much madder than the allegedly sane fear-mongering we face the rest of the year. Some newspapers have declared “the...

Some fears you can deal with readily. Like termites.
    2008-06-06 15:25:00
We've been doing some home repairs lately -- some the result of accidents like the flooding of our basement and some the result of deciding to tear down some outbuildings in our yard-- and especially the latter has gotten me concerned about what might be going on in my house. When we began ripping down an old shed, what we found surprised me. The boards were rotting away and in some places had clearly been eaten by ... well, something. I'm no expert. But I started worrying about termites. If there were termites in the shed, they could or would soon be in my house. Luckily, I don't have to just guess and worry. I can get information about termites and their causes and cures by going to the Termites Guide. They've got information that will help me determine whether I have termites, what a termite bond is, and most importantly, how to get rid of termites....

    Control your Presentation Fears
    2008-05-03 02:34:33
`As I was surfing the web, looking good presentation tips, I noticed a curious trend. The 2 most common problems that people face when it comes to delivering presentation are namely,1. Powerpoint issues2. Fear / Nervousness issuesI will likely post more about these topics in the near future, but from my point of view, the way to overcoming the fear of presentation is to PRACTICE.Getting neverous before an important presentation is totally normal. I’m nervous everytime I am due to speak, and I’ll bet great public speakers like Barack Obama feel just as nervous as you or I.Speaking expert TJ Walker makes the following enlightening points-If you feel nervous before a speech, chances are, your speech is boring!!-Most speeches in this world, business, political, etc… are boring. If you want to feel good about your speech, make it interesting. Talk in terms of the audience’s perspective.TJ Walker further points out that you should watch a video of your speech, in order to ensure that ...

    Iran FEARS NewsMax.com..?
    2008-04-17 11:44:00
This was one of the funniest things I've seen in a while. Especially since everyone has seen the credibility arguments, both for and against NewsMax. But apparently, there is some moxie to this as Asr Iran, a pro-Iranian government website is warning against a Kieth Timmerman article on NewsMax.HERE is a link to the original article by Timmerman that the Asr Iran website is warning about, written on Apr. 15th;http://www.newsmax.com/timmerman/shiite_Muqtada_Sadr/2008/04/15/88245.htmlAnd HERE is the recent NewsMax article about the warning, written today, Apr. 17th by Jim Myers;http://www.newsmax.com/insidecover/Asr_Iran_Muqtada_Sadr/2008/04/16/88531.html?s=al&promo_code=496A-1We can bounce back and forth for years about credibility, but it would be moot for both sides. This is just funny no matter how you look at it. The fact that an entire nation has become preoccupied to the point that it's primary pro-government site has issued a warning, is simply beyond laughable. As you read in...

The Importance of Not Avoiding Your Fears A.K.A. Triggers
    2008-04-03 14:27:00
photo by kxp130Recently I posted on how to discover what your triggers are. Once you know what your triggers are, its important to not avoid them. I think this is a really crucial thing to remember when trying to manage your anxiety. Avoidance seems like the most natural thing to do. Your insides may be screaming to run the other way. We want to be happy and comfortable, so why on earth would we force ourselves to do something that is scary and fearful if we don't have to?The reason is because the more we avoid them, the bigger, meaner, and scarier those triggers become. For example, if I don't go out to eat with friends because I know it could cause me to panic, then it will be twice as hard to go out the next time too. And even harder the time after that. Eventually I would never go out at all. And that is how agoraphobia starts.Sometimes you hear about people that can't leave their homes. They haven't stepped outside in years. This is an extreme case of agoraphobia but it has to sta...

European shares fall on US economy fears, record high oil
    2008-02-29 09:23:00
Europe's main stock markets dropped on Friday after Wall Street fell heavily overnight on renewed fears of a recession in the United States, while record high oil prices also hit sentiment, dealers said. In afternoon trading, London's FTSE 100 index of top companies was down by 0.82 percent in value to stand at 5,916.90 points. Frankfurt's DAX 30 slid 1.41 per cent to 6,765.59 points and the Paris CAC 40 shed 1.33 per cent to 4,800.33. The DJ Euro Stoxx 50 index of leading eurozone shares lost 1.57 per cent to 3,725.01 points. The European single currency stood at $1.5179, after striking a record high 1.5239 earlier on Friday. US share markets suffered heavy losses Thursday as a government report reaffirmed the economy slowed markedly in the fourth quarter, dealers said. Japanese share prices slumped by more than two percent on Friday as losses on Wall Street, a stronger yen and soaring oil prices spooked investors. The price of New York crude reached an historic h...

Building Boom Gives Way to Fears of London Vacant Office Space
    2008-02-27 03:24:00
Developers started the building boom several years ago as banks, law firms and other companies expanded quickly. In many cases, property firms knocked down buildings from the 1930s, 1950s and 1980s to make way for towering structures of glass and steel. The City's mix of centuries-old architecture and cheap post-World War II construction didn't appeal to big banks, in particular, which wanted large, open trading floors and modern facades. But as the new buildings rise next to London's most historic sites, from St. Paul's Cathedral to the medieval Guildhall, some critics are balking. In a speech last month, Prince Charles, an outspoken architecture critic, called many of the new buildings "carbuncles" that will leave London with a "pockmarked" skyline. "For some unaccountable reason we seem to be determined to vandalize these few remaining sites which retain the kind of human scale and timeless character that so attract people to them and which increase in value as time goes by," he said...

    Military fears Obama
    2008-02-26 14:45:00
Members of Washington's military and defense establishment are expressing trepidation about Sen. Barack Obama. Retired officers, industry executives and current defense officials interviewed by The Washington Times cite Mr. Obama's lack of experience in national security. They also point to his determination to pull American combat units from Iraq at a time when a troop surge has reduced violence, damaged al Qaeda and allowed the Iraqi government to progress toward Sunni-Shia-Kurd reconciliation."We're very concerned about his apparent lack of understanding on the threat of radical Islam to the United States," said retired Air Force Lt. Gen. Thomas McInerney....

    fears
    2008-01-19 00:00:00
You ask me sometimes, I do my best to hide it from you. Fearful you will worry more, I worry enough for us both, For I have much waiting for me, a love that waits patiently. Some days my hands tremble, tremble when a bomb got close. When I hear the thhhhhbwoom in the dark, feel my body be pushed back, feel the air sucked from my lungs when the concussion hits me. When my ears ring from the noise and my eyes hurt from the blinding light and dust, darkness of night suddenly turned into the brightness of sun. Some days I am scared, I am human only, Some days, I ask you to remind me, remind me and tell me I am brave. Tell me I will be alright and not to fear. Some days I want you to remind me, remind me I am not superman, to tell me "No risky chances", I listen to you. I really do,for I want you to have a whole man. Not a cripple missing legs or arms. I shake at times, alone in the dark when mortars hit. Small projectiles of terror, killing indiscriminately if its your time. God damn them I hate them. I fear much,I am human, I fear suicide bombers, watching like a hawk I watch, everyone, waiting ,not knowing which fanatic will try and drive into us, to detonate and end us all.. To send our bodies into a cloud of red mist. They scare me at times, and you think me so always tough. After a fight is done, the tracers zipping by, smacking my armor, over my head, the crack as bullets bust air.. It is terrifying after its done, you know that one was close and it scares me.. I fear and hurt when I see, good young boys with a whole life ahead, bleed out their life here, bleed out in the damned worthless dirt of this land. No one but us their brothers to be there with them, to hold their hands as if we were a mother to tell them its ok and we love them. To watch them give up and pass away. Yes my love, some days I am in danger. Some days I an afraid, I am just human unlike folks think. Underneath my muscle and armor, when I drop my guns and blades, I am just a man like all others...

2007: The Year Man-Made Global Warming Fears "Bite The Dust"

Finally, the world is being told the truth. And the dissension list continues to grow by leaps and bounds. US recession fears overblown: IMF
    2007-12-16 10:59:00
Economy Watch Published December 13, 2007 US recession fears overblown: IMFBut official says US growth outlook has become subject to greater risks(WASHINGTON) World economic growth may be hobbled by financial market turmoil and the risks to the United States have mounted, said IMF first deputy managing director John Lipsky, but fears of a recession still look overdone.'Never say never, but the latest indicators do not justify such a conclusion,' Mr Lipsky told an internal IMF publication in an interview posted on its website on Tuesday. He had been asked whether a US recession was looming, but professed that he was 'cautiously optimistic'.'Employment growth and wage increases have decelerated, but they both continue to grow. So long as US household income continues to expand, it's reasonable to expect consumption expenditures to increase,' he said.A credit crunch spurred by the collapse of the US sub-prime mortgage market is expected to slow growth, and last month the IMF signal...

    Comrade Ken Fears The Cubbies
    2007-12-12 12:23:32
This is new. I'm not used to us being feared or expected to do well or really anything other than bumble around the diamond and finish second-to-last in the division. Most times when we're decent, it surprises the hell out of people, even me. But Ken Rosenthal says that people had better start showing us some respect. ESPECIALLY if we land Brian Roberts. Now, imagine if the Cubs get Brian Roberts, too. A trade for Roberts would transform an underachieving offense into one of the most potent in the National League. The addition of a secondary target, Chone Figgins, could do the same. Japanese outfielder Kosuke Fokudome, who agreed to a four-year, free-agent contract Tuesday night, gives the Cubs a left-handed hitter to balance their predominantly right-handed lineup. A speedy switch-hitter such as Roberts or Figgins at the top of the order would make the Cubs that much more dynamic, enabling them to drop Alfonso Soriano to the No. 5 spot where he belongs. Here's how it might look...

Tourism hit by climate change fears
    2007-11-16 03:38:00
THE tourism industry wants to conquer the fears of Europeans that air travel - and therefore a flight to Australia - is a primary cause of global warming. The Department of Industry, Tourism and Resources is commissioning a study into how Germans and Britons feel about climate change. The study will gauge their worries on the travel plans of two of the largest visitor groups to Australia.A tender document describing the study notes concern that Britons have an "exaggerated understanding" of the greenhouse emissions contributed by aircraft. ...

How Halloween Can Help You Face Your Fears And Have a Happier Life
    2007-10-30 21:11:00
“The Halloween Method For Change”Here it is again, that scary and gruesome holiday we call “Halloween”. Yeah, here comes the ghosts, the vampires, the monsters, and all the negative vibes that come along with this last day in October. This being the case, I propose a plan of action - my “Halloween Method For Change” - a method that uses the negative theme and frightfulness of this holiday as a helpful tool in our day-to-day lives. It will turn Halloween into a positve force for personal development, instead of just an entertaining event. Turning A Negative Holiday Into A Positive EventAs we know and love, Halloween is about dressing up in scary costumes and faces and receiving gifts(candy for kids and gifts for adults). I propose that we can utilize the negative faces, dress and horrific nature of this occassion as a catalyst for creating a more positive and less intimidating and fearful existence. How can this be done? Read On. The Method: Using Halloween For Personal Development And Self-GrowthStep 1. You must accept and see that Halloween is not just about dressing up and having fun. You must observe the obvious qualities of this scary, and therefore, deceptively negative holiday. Yes, its outward appearance is that it is this sweet, fun celebration, leaving us little concern for any negative effects. But we all know that Halloween adds a quiet, lowering impulse to our mental well-being during the time it is among us. So, step #1 consists in realizing the negative essence of Halloween - admitting that it is rooted in the negative.Step 2. This part will call for a deep analysis of your mental states and way of life. This step asks that you take the frighting, creepy masks and costumes you wear and others wear as representing the various negative attitudes, thoughts and emotions you experience in your life, for example:The Werewolf could represent all those wild, uncontrolled thoughts, emotions and actions you experience thro...

The Fears of a Food Critic
    2007-09-11 16:59:00
My first assignment as a food critic is on Thursday night. I'm terrified. I can't help but replay this possible scene over and over again in my head:We are escorted to our table and shown our seats. I can barely fit into mine because of the enormous wine menu that spills over the side of the table. "And what will you be drinking this evening?" asks the obsequious waiter."Actually we won't be drinking tonight," I reply timidly, knowing this to be a cardinal dining sin. The waiter's eyes sharpen."May I recommend the 1999 Pride Mountain Merlot," he says as if he hadn't heard me. "This wine has fierce muscularity expressed with brilliance and drive. From the first impression of a crush of blackberries, the fruit lifts up over a chalk line of tannins, superripe but contained, red, black and gripping. It ends in a blast of raspberry, a trumpet of fruit flavor. The finish is juicy as a -""No wine, " I whine. Then I whip it out the big guns, "we're Mormon."With exquisite disappointment ...

    Beat Back 5 Financial Fears
    2007-09-02 14:48:00
by Jeanne SahadiProvided by CNNMoney.com Everyone's got concerns when it comes to money, but some have fears that can really put a big hole in their financial future. Here's how to overcome five common ones.1. Fear of coming clean with your partnerYou know it's bad. So bad you'd really rather keep it to yourself. Why, you figure, ruin your partner's day with news of your mounting debt or the fact that you've been living off your savings?Because if you don't, the truth will out at the worst possible time -- like when you go to apply for a mortgage and realize that your credit score or lack of savings is killing your chances of getting that house your partner loves. "Then that creates a double problem. Knowing is safer," said Ruth Hayden, author of "For Richer, Not Poorer: The Money Book for Couples."Chances are you're afraid that your partner will think less of you and want to leave you or, possibly worse, try to control every dollar you spend from now on.But remember, Hayden said...

    British Land Resists Rate Fears
    2007-08-17 02:13:00
LONDON - Real estate investment trust British Land gave hope to Britain's property followers on Thursday after it posted solid second-quarter results and bolstered its stock with dividends and buy-backs. It now remains to be seen whether the company has weathered the worst of the threat of rising interest rates. "British Land is significantly outperforming the sector in net asset value growth," said Stuart Draper, analyst with Dolmen Securities. He said that, historically, property stocks had been undervalued by around 10% to their net asset value, while British Land's discount stood at 30% on the back of worries that interest rates would rise. ...

    How Speculators Exploit Market Fears
    2007-08-09 18:41:00
By Ben SteinHere's a fact: The speculators and hedge fund managers who run today's stock market need market volatility in order to make money. They can't make enough money if the market stays flat or moves only a bit, so they like extreme and unexpected price movements. They especially like sudden, surprise movements down, when they can make money off stocks they borrow and sell -- or, as they say, "sell short."Money Lust SatisfiedThat's what's been happening the past couple of weeks. But it's not interesting to say that the speculators are whipping the market around to satisfy their money lust. So the speculators themselves make up reasons for why the market is fluctuating, flog those reasons to the media, and then profit if some other speculators believe the jive reasons and jump in the way the manipulators want them to. Supposedly, the market is "correcting" because of worries about the housing slowdown, and also because of fears that the debt markets that support mergers and a...

In Australia, shares declined by more than 3 per cent, as reports said that two funds managed by Macquarie Bank, Australia's largest securities firm, were facing losses of up to A$300 million due to US subprime mortgage exposure. Meanwhile, US investment bank Bear Stearns stopped investors from withdrawing money from another of its funds. Two of its other funds nearly collapsed in June after suffering massive losses linked to subprime mortgages. Fears for our country are shared by many.
    2007-06-16 20:47:09
Heard a snippet of a speech by Hillary the other night.  It contained references to her husband also being involved when she becomes President.  I guess that means she would have someone like Sandy Berger as National Security Adviser, someone who lies and commits acts of espionage to protect his and his bosses a$$ - someone like Richard Clark, to try to protect himself and his boss - someone like Les Aspen as Secretary of Defense, to setup Blackhawk Down - someone like Janet Reno as Attorney General, who devised the strategy of Ruby Ridge, where an innocent baby and mother were shot to death.  The FBI marksman who killed them, as far as I know, is still there, only re-assigned.  Reno also put together the assault on Waco, where 86 people, including women and children, were either shot or burned to death.  She also saw that the young Cuban whose mother gave her life to get him here, was forcibly taken from his relatives and returned to Cuba.  Over the years, Castro has used him t...

Biofuels: A Scam Taking Advantage of Global Warming Fears?
    2007-06-13 06:26:03
This article highlights the lack of common sense associated with trying to grow enough fuel for massive markets. The problems: growing fuel (i.e. via corn or other oils) uses up land and causes massive tropical deforestation. It is not energy efficient to grow fuel. Meanwhile, biofuel producers make a killing, and politicians ride in as “environmentally conscious”. Too bad it is really just a lack of insight, due diligence, common sense and, potentially, scruples. Speak out against government mandated biofuel use. Click here to read more. ...

RUSSIA: New fears of state takeover of BP gas field
    2007-06-06 16:23:00
Vladimir Putin turned up the pressure on Britain's biggest company yesterday saying it was intolerable that BP and its local partners were "doing nothing" to meet their obligations by fully developing Kovykta, a huge gas field in Siberia. The president's words will increase fears within BP that the state could try to effectively take over its Russian business by buying up a half share in the TNK-BP joint venture."I would like to stress that the [Kovykta] field has reserves of three trillion cubic metres. To understand its importance for our country, it is equal to almost all reserves of Canada," said Mr Putin in an interview posted on his website, www.kremlin.ru. "But if members of the consortium are doing nothing to meet licence obligations, how much longer do we have to tolerate this?" BP has come under increasing pressure over Kovykta with allegations that the operating company it controls is not meeting the levels of gas supplies it promised. There had been speculation that the st...
