Have eBay's Seller Fees Become Excessive?
    2008-04-08 08:19:32
eBay. Either you love it, hate it, or have never used it. The biggest complaint among eBay sellers is listing and final value fees. Let's take a minute to examine these fees and understand exactly what eBay sellers are paying for, and if the trade off is worth the financial investment.Listing an item on eBay is similar to placing an ad in the newspaper. A seller pays for the ad and hopes for the best. You pay a fee for the newspaper to print the ad regardless of the outcome of your sale. Whether you are selling clothing, a baby stroller, or a wedding dress, you must get the word out about your item to potential buyers in order to make a sale. eBay exposes your item to an audience of 240 million buyers. The listing fees for items under $25 are only 65 cents, which is quite affordable. Imagine the cost to place an ad in a big city's newspaper reaching 1 million readers - a fraction of the eBay audience - the cost would be significantly more than 65 cents. Furthermore, the cost to drive t

No more ATM transaction fees in India
    2008-03-21 14:32:13
Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has introduced a set of guidelines that will make access to all the ATMs almost free of cost. This move has been welcomed well by all the credit card customers across the country. You might have an account with a reputed bank which offers great service but has only a handful of ATMs in your city. It has been estimated that there are around 31,078 ATMs in the country as of December 2007.You can easily locate an ATM on almost every street if you have an account with ICICI or SBI but you if you have an account with some other bank you will have to pay for using the ATM of the banks. So you are forced to use the ATMs of other banks which charge a fee of Rs 56(minimum) for cash withdrawals and Rs 20 for balance enquiry.Thankfully, this scenario is set to change by next year as the RBI has asked all the banks to bring down the transaction cost to Rs 20 by March 31st this year. It has also planned to completely eliminate this fee by April next year. Instant cheque

    Phone Card Fees: Connection Fees
    2008-01-17 09:08:40
Most people understand that they use phone cards by dialing an access number which by-passes their high cost carrier in order to make low cost domestic or international long distance calls. Phone card users also know that they will usually pay a higher rate than the per-minute rate advertised because of so called hidden fees and taxes. What a lot of people don't realize is that these hidden fees vary significantly between phone card suppliers, can take on different forms and, in some cases, they can be hard to spot when making a purchase and be just plain "tricky". We don't like these marketing practices and feel that hidden fees should be fully disclosed by phone card marketer's in an understandable manner so a consumer will truely understand what it will cost to make a call. Therefore, we try to uncover and explain these "tricks" when we find them so consumers can spot them when making a purchase. A case in point is a "connection fee".As the name implies, a connection fee is a fee ch

DoLE warns nurses vs excessive fees for NZ jobs
    2007-12-18 03:59:00
Nurses looking for jobs in New Zealand, beware! The Labor department issued a warning on Monday against recruiters collecting excessive fees from applicants. Labor Secretary Arturo Brion urged nurses or nursing graduates who have been offered jobs in New Zealand in exchange for exorbitant fees to report these individuals or agencies to the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration for the filing of appropriate charges. Reports reaching the Department of Labor and Employment indicate that Filipino nurses offered jobs in New Zealand had to pay between P500,000 and P700,000 to manpower agencies that brokered for their deployment. Upon arrival in New Zealand, the recruited nurses were placed in rest homes for which they were automatically billed 15 percent of their monthly salary. Brion said the Philippine embassy in Wellington, New Zealand received complaints from victims who had been referred to the POEA for the filing of cases against erring agencies. Legal Battle Brewing Over Texas Fees on Adult Entertainment
    2007-12-10 00:00:00
Should adult entertainment establishments be charged an extra fee by the government for adults to enter places like topless bars? Governor Perry and many Texas legislators think such discriminatory "taxation" is good public policy. From the Dallas Morning News:Lawyers for Texas' adult entertainment industry are asking a judge to block a state-mandated $5 cover charge at strip clubs - money that, starting Jan. 1, will be collected to fund sexual assault prevention and health care for the uninsured. The suit, filed Wednesday in Travis County, alleges that lawmakers violated club operators' constitutional right to free speech when they approved the surcharge last spring. Owners of topless bars have argued that the fee, designed to help victims of sexual assault, imposes a discriminatory tax on their businesses and unfairly links their patrons to rape. And though officials from the Texas attorney general's office vowed to do whatever it takes to uphold the adult entertainment

    Credit Cards Boosting Fees

Although issuers have the right to change the terms and conditions of customers' cards at any time, they will usually notify you in advance and give you the chance to opt out of any changes. To do so, you will typically have to call a number or send a letter to the company by a certain date. In many cases, customers will be able to pay off any balances under existing terms, although you may be forced to close the accounts.A number of lenders are tightening their credit standards and raising fees given concerns over a slowing economy and a changing interest-rate environment. Many lenders, for example, are becoming more cautious about extending credit to people in weaker housing markets and to people who hold certain riskier mortgages.

Fines? Fees? Taxes? Do Virginians See a Difference?
    2007-07-24 07:00:00
A heated discussion has taken place over the past month in the Commonwealth of Virginia. On July 1, a controversial new schedule of civil fees for traffic violations took effect. Governor Tim Kaine (D) had campaigned for them, and Speaker William Howell (R) had helped the governor gain Republican support. Now a backlash from the public is causing some heartburn on both sides of the aisle, although neither the governor nor the speaker has backtracked yet.The goal was to raise more money for transportation spending.  Democrats supported any mechanism to make that happen, either general tax increases or the so-called abusive driver fees. Their leader Governor Kaine had championed the fees, especially when Republican opposition to general tax increases was strong. Many Republicans also supported transportation spending and any legislation that could make it happen, short of a general tax increase (like the gas tax). Some honestly believed that the fees would be less damaging to the sta

Avoid the headache and ongoing fees of VANs and Kilo "Click" Charges
    2007-05-31 20:24:00
Just some advice...For customers, Vendors or Manufactures or anyone asked to get on EDI the cost can get confusing or at first might seem less expensive upfront then the monthly bill arrives......eBridge has an entry solution to set the client up on integrated EDI for even just 1 trading partner with a flat rate cost with alot of options for the future. Don't get caught up on EDI that is not integrated into accounting software or paying crazy monthly VAN related charges. If your trading partner uses AS2 software then you don't need the VAN to send the EDI document(s), the internet is free..... We have converted people actually paying for this service when really the communication is via AS2 and eliminates the VAN.eBridge allows the customer to not only get set up easily we also can train customers to do their own mapping so adding a trading partner is in your control. Are you planning on having alot of trading partners and want an integrated system we can help you.If you have any questions, let us know.
