| | First Night at KeySpan & a Strange Delay | | 2008-06-20 09:49:00 | | The New York-Penn League is back in full swing for 2008, and I went to my first Brooklyn Cyclones game at KeySpan Park last night.It was the final game of a three-game series with the archrival Staten Island Yankees. The Cyclones opened the season with two wins over Staten Island, 3-1 and 9-4. There was a big crowd on hand at KeySpan (announced at over 8,600, but it was more like 6,000).I have a partial plan of seven games, and my seat is behind home plate, about 10 rows off the field. I've been going to Cyclones games for eight seasons now, and it's a great atmosphere there in Coney Island. Lots of kids and families on hand, and before the game, they had literally hundreds of Little Leaguers on the field with the players for the National Anthem.It was a close game most of the way through. | | American Idol Top 12 First Night | | 2008-03-12 10:43:54 | | I am excited for tonight's result of American Idol. Last night, crowds favorite David Archuleta was in his weakest performance. He admitted that he is not very familiar of the Beatles songs and just tried Stevie Wonders version of the song. He's pretty young though so, I could believe him. Heck, I am even older and not so familiar with some Beatles songs. He probably is crumbling under the pressure too especially that everyone expects a lot from him. David Archuleta forgot the lyrics of the song "We Can Work It Out" but I don't think he was the weakest performer among the Top 12 lastnight. This adorable guy has the most fans among the Top 12 I guess. I think Kristy Lee Cook will be going home tonight. She's pretty talented too and but the judges didn't like her singing the country style of the song "8 Days a Week". I didn't like it either. I think Ramiele Malubay might go tonight too. It was a fast-paced, rhythmic start to the night starting around 6 p.m.We then walked to First Presbyterian Church on Chenango Street, where the Binghamton Philharmonic played to a nearly packed house. The acoustics and grandeur of the church were a perfect fit for the music.After scooting out a little before the orchestra ended, we trekked back to Phelps Mansion to a standing-room only crowd waiting to hear Jewish band Shtreiml, which had unique takes on old folk tunes and klezmer music.At this point, we were surprised and a bit disappointed that we were two of only a few 20-somethings in a crowd that ultimately numbered thousands.
