Closing The Book On Kason Gabbard
    2008-07-22 18:55:17
Last Friday, it was widely reported that southpaw Kason Gabbard’s 2008 campaign had been prematurely ended by season-ending elbow surgery, performed over the All-Star break with the intent of removing a problematic bone spur. Now it’s time to close the book on his volatile season - once and for all. Kason Gabbard - 2008 Projections Vs. Reality — IP K/9 BB/9 K/BB HR/9 BABIP WHIP ERA Bill [...]...

NEWSFLASH: Blalock Undergoes Surgery; Gabbard Optioned; Tejeda Recalled
    2008-05-30 18:36:10
Isn’t it great when significant news breaks without access to a computer? Multiple local media sources, including Anthony Andro of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, are reporting that first baseman Hank Blalock underwent last-resort surgery on Friday morning to alleviate the ongoing pain and irritation in his right wrist from Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. The procedure was performed by [...]...

Kason Gabbard And The Mysterious Missing Strike Zone
    2008-05-28 18:09:13
After a third consecutive poor outing for Texas Rangers southpaw Kason Gabbard (this time against the Tampa Bay Rays, who pounded the 26-year-old for five runs - four earned - on five hits and six walks in 4.1 innings during Wednesday afternoon’s series finale at Tropicana Field), here is how his 2008 statistical profile looks: LHP [...]...

NEWSFLASH: Feldman Recalled; Gabbard To 15-Day DL
    2008-04-23 16:44:15
So much for Kason Gabbard’s premature exit from Monday’s start against the Boston Red Sox being merely a “precautionary” measure. Multiple local media sources, including Anthony Andro of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, are reporting that the Texas Rangers will place the 26-year-old southpaw on the 15-day disabled list tomorrow with what is being termed simply as [...]...

Millwood, Gabbard Fuel Rangers Doubleheader Sweep
    2008-04-11 01:25:13
Welcome back to the promised land, my friends. The Texas Rangers’ thrilling sweep of Thursday’s day-night doubleheader against the Baltimore Orioles is significant, if not somewhat historic, on multiple fronts. After sustaining a demoralizing 8-1 blowout loss in Tuesday afternoon’s home opener, it would have been easy for this squad, having been humiliated in front of 48,808 [...]...

Kason Gabbard controls Angels in 11-6 victory.
    2008-04-05 01:35:48
Despite an absolute meltdown by Dustin Nippert, hopefully something that we will never see again, the Rangers escaped with a victory, attributed to Kason Gabbard, on Friday night. Gabbard went seven innings, allowing no runs. The starting rotation has been solid, and though Gabbard looked shaky at times, running into a bit of trouble in the [...]...

Gabbard, Rangers Fall Short In 7-6 Loss To Cubs
    2008-03-25 03:00:07
The maddeningly inconsistent spring campaign of left-hander Kason Gabbard continues, with no immediate relief in sight. Having already secured a guaranteed spot in the Texas Rangers’ Opening Day starting rotation, Gabbard nonchalantly toted his pitching arm - and the horrific exhibition season ERA of 12.66 that it had compiled - into his Monday afternoon start against [...]...

Gabbard Falters, But Rangers Shine In 10-8 Victory Over Royals
    2008-03-15 01:42:39
Kason Gabbard’s candidacy for the fourth spot in the Texas Rangers’ Opening Day starting rotation may have taken yet another step backwards on Friday afternoon in Surprise, Arizona. Sidney Ponson’s, comparatively, may have taken yet another step forward. Texas managed to overcome yet another miserable performance from the 25-year-old Gabbard, who surrendered seven earned runs on seven [...]...

Gabbard, Loe Snakebitten In 9-4 Rangers Loss
    2008-03-05 00:36:33
In light of the Texas Rangers’ frustrating 9-3 defeat at the hands of the Arizona Diamondbacks at Surprise Stadium on Tuesday afternoon, I feel it only proper to unveil the spring’s first rendition of a segment that I like to call “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly”: The Good: Top pitching prospect Eric Hurley tossed [...]...

Kason Gabbard Loses Rangers Debut In 5-0 Shutout
    2007-08-03 07:30:46
Well, at least Texas still won the series. Kason Gabbard pitched decently, but a lack of run support spoiled his Rangers debut, as Texas was shut out on Thursday afternoon by the Indians, 5-0. Gabbard allowed three runs in 5.2 innings of work, while giving up eight hits and a walk and striking out four. He boasted a very impressive 12-1 ground-to-fly ball ratio on the day, but three wild pitches, a passed ball and a HBP sort of lessened the benefit of all those ground balls. Basically, he was a lot more wild than his one walk indicated, as he also threw just 57 of his 95 pitches for strikes. Kason’s stuff was basically as advertised; MLB Gameday showed his fastball velocity topping out at around 89 MPH, while the FSN radar gun showed at least one 92 MPH reading; however, I’m more inclined to believe MLB’s radar gun readings. Gabbard’s curve worked in the mid-70’s for the most part, and while his breaking pitches did indeed seem to be above-average as far a...

    Gabbard's Simply Superb
    2007-07-17 17:25:00
Red Sox rookie lefty Kason Gabbard pitched a three-hitter last night as Dustin Pedroia, Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz all belted home runs to give the Sox a 4-0 win at Fenway over the Royals last night.Gabbard was in complete control all night. He had an incredibly sharp curve ball, and he struck out eight. He pitched a complete game shutout, the first lefty Red Sox rookie to do so since 1972.He pitched 4 1/3 innings of no-hit ball until giving up a clean single to Emil Brown. Gabbard got into his only trouble of the night in that inning, as Kansas City had the bases loaded with two outs, but he got out of it unscathed.KC pitcher Brian Bannister was sharp the first three innings, and Julio Lugo was the first man to reach base for either team in the third on an infield hit. Replays showed he was out, but the Red Sox got the call. (Lugo was eventually picked off. Justice, I suppose.)Pedroia and Ramirez both banged balls into the Monster seats in the fourth to give the Red Sox all the ru...
