| Internet racers, a rare specimen of gamers | | 2008-05-04 15:21:00 | | Forza Motorsport 2 JUN Fairlady Z Inserito originariamente da Abriael This evening i was watching an anime called Wangan Midnight that, in the thypical Japanese way, shows street racing in a quite intense way, and that made me think a bit on my career as an internet racer. It was around the beginning of the century. Despite having been a gamer for more than 15 years then, my interest on racing games wasn't exactly at it's peak. I just never clicked with them (I was more into flight simulators), and the lack of story didn't entice me as well. Then an italian gaming magazine that I used to buy (before developing my notorious distrust for the printed press) included a copy of Papyrus' Nascar Racing 4 (still one of the best racing series ever), and started a tournament between the readers. What did the trick was the fact that in the Nascar series you could draw a new livery of your car and display it during races. That, considering my absolute love for personalization, got me entice | | By: Classy Gamer | | |

| In the name of all gamers, Stephen King...I Salute You | | 2008-04-05 19:56:00 | | Horror genres number one go to guy Stephen King, is discussing(protecting even) gamers rights and ridiculousness of these bills to stop minors from obtaining video games deemed violent. He also points out, today a 17 year old kid can see movies such as Hostel II or any of the Saw series and thats OK, but when he picks up a game less violent then those, it calls for a new law.a Worthy Quoting from what King says on Entertainment Weekly:"If HB 1423 becomes law, will it remain law? Doubtful. Similar legislation has been declared unconstitutional in several states. Could Massachusetts legislators find better ways to watch out for the kiddies? Man, I sure hope so, because there's a lot more to America's culture of violence than Resident Evil 4.What really makes me insane is how eager politicians are to use the pop culture — not just videogames but TV, movies, even Harry Potter — as a whipping boy. It's easy for them, even sort of fun, because the pop-cult always hollers nice and loud. A | | By: Know Thy Game | | |

Every little eurocent, cent and penny can make a difference. | FPS gamers to control future killer robots | | 2008-02-13 10:08:00 | | How far are we from killer robots and human controlled mechs? Not far.
"The whole point of robots is that they’re not human. When it comes to military ops, the upside of not being human is that robots can get blown up and it’s not such a big deal. The downside (and it’s a big downside) is that robots aren’t yet ready to make their own decisions in battle, meaning humans have to be in the loop | | By: Wasted Rant | | |

| The 8 Most Popular New Year's Resolutions for Gamers | | 2008-01-03 12:37:18 | | I will not automatically play games on the easiest difficulty setting...Sometimes the temptation to select the easiest difficulty setting (prior to even experiencing how hard the game actually is) is just too overwhelming. This is especially true when you start to doubt your gaming skills and worry about the possibility of getting stuck indefinitely at some later point in the game. We've all been there, but we all also know the consequences of automatically picking the least difficult game setting: the game becomes too easy. You begin letting enemies wail on you because the damage you take is so infinitesimal, you stop caring about preserving ammunition/items, and you ultimately don't have as much fun because you're not faced with any real challenge. I'll buy more "new games" to support game developers...When you buy used video games your money goes directly to the game store. Sure, when you're trying to track down more obscure titles or discontinued games, the used sect | | By: Online Games | | |

| Research On American Gamers - SendMeRSS | | 2007-12-07 02:54:51 | | Research On American GamersSome research results have been released today about the attitudes of Americans in regards to video games. The poll was conducted by Hill & Knowlton and sadly the only results they published on their website are the ones that go along with the opinion that games are generally negative. The results they mention are that 60% of adults believe that the government should regulate the sales of violent or mature content video games, while 51% believe that the government should regulate the content itself. According to the ESA there’s a lot more pertinent information that they’re not bothering to mention, as the group approached the ESA with the results of this study the previous summer. The study found that more than two thirds of Americans aged 18-34 currently play video games, less than 20% of Americans believe that playing video games is a negative way to spend time with friends and family and more than half of families think video games are a po | | By: Online Games | | |

| Girl Gamers, Not Such A Rare Breed After All! | | 2007-11-15 17:55:00 | | My wife has recently started a new blog to kind of vent about her daily life. I suggested she do a guest post on my blog to kind of get the ball rolling and she agreed. If you enjoy her writing style be sure to check out Too Busy To Notice. "I have heard a lot of talk recently about girl gamers. The comment was posted about girl gamers being a rare breed and the conversation blossomed from there. Are female gamers a rare breed? It all depends on who you ask! "I being a girl have to admit that certain types of gaming hold quite a bit of interest for me. I've been gaming for a number of years and have played in a variety of table top and live action game settings. My first gaming experience was with a live action Vampire game that I got into in 1996. I had never been exposed to gaming prior to this. Sure I played Monopoly and Scrabble with my parents growing up, but that's not quite the same thing. Board games are a whole different entity. I played in live action game settings for a number of years. The games that I was involved in were so large though it was more like a theater group than a game setting. It was a blast nonetheless. "Soon after my experience with live action gaming, I was introduced into table top gaming. I started with tabletop vampire and branched out to include D&D. I have to admit when I was 21 D&D made no sense to me because it was a lot of math and attention to details. I wasn't used to that sort of gaming. Life happened continued and I gamed here or there when I got the opportunity. Now that I am married to a very enthusiastic gamer and computer nerd, my horizons have been broadened even more. We've played in a variety of game settings including both live action and tabletop. I have to admit that I am quite partial to tabletop at this point because I don't have to worry about getting dressed up to portray my character. It's a more personal gaming group set in a friendly environment at a house rather than a publi | | By: Zybron's Thoughts | | |
