    Movie Review: The Golden Compass
    2008-03-07 08:30:00
Starring:Nicole Kidman, Daniel Craig, Dakota Blue Richards, Eva Green, Sam Elliot, Adam Godley, Tom CourteneyDirector:Chris Weitz (About a Boy)MPAA Rating:PG-13 for sequences of fantasy violence.Release Date:December 2007Synopsis:After overhearing a shocking secret, precocious orphan Lyra Belacqua trades her carefree existence roaming the halls of Jordan College for an otherworldly adventure in the far North, unaware that it's part of her destiny. My Two Cents:There is no God. That’s the first thing I heard about The Golden Compass from a guy that saw the film. He said the movie was about killing God and making the Catholic church look bad. My only thought were “I gotta watch this movie!”Try ignoring what you have heard or read about Philip Pullman’s book trilogy His Dark Materials being pro atheism and against Catholics. Well OK, Pullman did say “I suppose technically, you'd have to put me down as an agnostic. But if there is a God, and he is as the Christians describe him, t

Fletch's Film Review: The Golden Compass
    2007-12-20 14:14:00
Stealing a page from the brilliantly simplistic Review in Haiku, I present to you my Golden Compass review in 17 syllables. RIH is so detailed with it's commitment to simplicity that I am awed. There are but five grades (Awesome, Good, Okay, Bad and Awful) given. The post tags don't exceed two - the year (or decade for pre-2000 films) and the grade. The "reviews" are the obvious 17 syllables, a picture and a grade. That's it, every time. Gimmicky? Sure. But it's awesome, and I only wish I had thought of it first. Anyway, here's The Golden Compass:"Where is double O?No religion ruckus herePolar bear fight rocks."Fletch's Film Rating:"You seem a decent fellow. I hate to kill you."

    The Golden Compass stirs religion
    2007-12-12 05:01:05
I have always fancied children's books since I started reading Harry Potter, and Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials series has always been my interest since a friend of mine from Britain introduced the novel to me, and yet up to now I still hadn't have a copy and had not even gone out to the cinemas to watch its first in the series, The Golden Compass (the other are The Subtle Knife and The Amber Spyglass, don't know which one's the second and third, though). I have once gone to a site where...

    The Golden Compass (2007) PG-13 113min
    2007-12-10 01:41:03
A major disappointment. The script by Chris Weitz (”About a Boy“) is based on first story of Philip Pullman’s 1995 bestselling (in UK) trilogy novel, His Dark Materials: The Golden Compass. The plot: The story is set in an alternative world where people’s souls manifest themselves as animals (a.k.a. “daemons”), a 12-year old orphan girl Lyra (Dakota Blue Richards) is at the center of it. A [...]

A Golden Compass to Devour Your Children
    2007-11-04 08:20:52
He is of the devil's party and does know it. - - author Pullman, quoting William Blake, but referring to himself. A terrible book series was written with one purpose: to corrupt your children and remove any religion from them. The series is called His Dark Materials and was written by noted atheist Phillip Pullman. And the first book of the series is called The Golden Compass (or Northern Lights outside of the US) and has been made into a feature film starring Nicole Kidman, Daniel Craig, and other - it is big budget and will be advertised heavily to kids. So what's the problem? The content and purpose of the story. The Golden Compass is worse than you imagine His Dark Materials is a trilogy of three books, which Wikipedia describes like this: The trilogy follows the coming of age of two main characters, Lyra Belacqua and Will Parry, as they wander through a multiverse of parallel universes and a backdrop of epic events. The story begins in Northern Lights with fantasy eleme

The Golden Compass: Atheistic Madrassa At Its Finest
    2007-11-02 15:05:00
Once again, Kudos to my friend Roberta for forwarding yet another great e-mail to me about a serious agenda. It's regarding the upcoming Dec. 7, 2007 release of the movie, "The Golden Compass," starring Nicole Kidman, Daniel Craig, and Ian McKellan as the "voice" of one of the characters (a Bear.)The agenda behind The Golden Compass series could best be described as deceptive, even evil (in whatever form you want to describe evil) in its underlying message. Yet, the author Philip Pullman try's to explain away that precept. In his MSNBC interview, he takes great joy on continually harping on the BAD done by organized religion. Yet, doesn't seem to acknowledge the overwhelming bad done OUTSIDE of religion, such as over 57 million people slaughtered by Hitler and Stalin. The Golden Compass is only book one of a trilogy written by Pullman called "His Dark Materials." I think that alone should explain it well enough on its own.Snopes.com also has some revealing info about this. In a 2003

Golden Compass: 2 posters, 2 estrategias de marketing
    2007-10-11 21:14:10
