    The Ethics of Good News
    2008-06-25 10:00:00
I f a scientist discovered the cure for cancer, we would expect the discovery to be shared with the world. Basic ethics requires that good news not be kept secret. When the king of Syria laid siege to the city of Samaria, the food supply was cut off. Four men with leprosy, deciding it would be preferable to die at the hands of the Syrians than to starve, went to surrender to the enemy. But when they came to the camp, they found it deserted. The army had fled in the night.Food lay everywhere. The four men stuffed themselves, and they were tempted to remain silent about the good news. But then the memory of Samaria with as famished inhabitants came back to them. "We are not doing right," they said (2 Ki. 7:9). So they became evangelists bearers of good news-and told others. Ultimately, evangelism comes down to this: one starving person telling another starving person where to find food. You and I have discovered the salvation that is found in Jesus Christ. It is a breakdown of basic integr

The good news is that things are predictably bad
    2008-06-21 00:10:00
By Damian ReeceLast Updated: 12:18am BST 19/06/2008Life might seem uncertain and unpredictable at the moment but in reality it's proving quite the opposite. The bursting of the property bubble was widely predicted, albeit the nationalisation of a major high street lender was not.Since then, warnings from various sources of mounting losses amongst the banks have been realised, even though the banks themselves have seemed in denial. The warnings about consumers being left high and dry by their debt binge have come to pass while the tired old cliché about inflation being like toothpaste - once it's out of the tube it's hard to get it back in - has been in use by the Telegraph since the summer of 2006.We may have offended some by resorting to the simile a little too much but we, like others, have been trying to make a point on prices for some time.Yesterday's letter from Mervyn King to Alistair Darling about inflation revealed more about a UK economy that is behaving in line with expectati

More Good news for Coffee Drinker
    2008-06-19 07:01:00
You may check out the latest articles from Yahoo Health. The article is by Will Dunham with title No Higher Death Risk in Long-term Coffee Drinking. Basically coffee drinkers don’t have to hold back on having their favorite drink. Below are few of the points that I can summarize from the article. Drinking coffee up to six cups a day was not relate to increase of death among the middle-ages. Women experience a small decline in death rates from heart disease. There is no association between coffee consumption and cancer deaths. So far most of the test and reports are showing positive in coffee drinking. Until there is a solid prove that shows coffee drinking is bad for health, I think I’m going to stick with it. Any way I think even if there are prove that coffee drinking kills, I don’t think people will stop drinking coffee. Take for example alcohol and tobacco. People rather die than stop having them.

There is a good news for woman who loves coffee very much
    2008-06-17 10:40:50
Girls, don't you know that coffee can protect against heart disease? but it's only working for women. Scientists found that women who drink two to three cups a day are 25 per cent less likely to die from the disease than those who abstain. But they are at a loss to explain why coffee appeared to have no effect on death rates for men. The study contradicted fears that coffee is bad for the health. Drinking as much as six cups a day did not raise the risk of premature death in either sex.Wow..it's

The Bad News and The Good News
    2008-06-13 06:24:00
THE bad news: our boy was in a terrible car accident.THE good news: he'll be okay.THE very bad news: he broke his backTHE very good news: his surgeon is one of the best in the state.THE scary news: his vertebra (backbone) was shattered, his left leg numb, and his hip, fractured.THE reassuring news: in a few months he'll be walking without the aid of leg braces and crutches.THE terrifying news: that surgery lasted over 5 nerve-wracking hours.THE comforting news: he came through with flying colors.THE annoying news: he'll be in the hospital for at least a week, and physical therapy for months.THE awesome/silver-lining news: he has to quit smoking, otherwise his bones will never heal.

Lehan gets good news, will only miss 4-6 weeks
    2008-06-04 19:44:07
The Palm Beach Post provides us with some good news, courtesy of Michael Lehan's agent: Dolphins cornerback Michael Lehan will be out only four to six weeks, his agent told The Palm Beach Post. Based on the ugly way Lehan’s ankle was bent while he writhed on the turf, that’s incredibly good news for the secondary. Domann was traveling and said he didn’t have specifics on the injury. “To my knowledge, it doesn’t appear to be as severe as it must’ve looked,” Domann said. This is very good news, as it seemed Lehan, who was injured earlier today, had suffered a catastrophic injury. With a 4 to 6 week timetable, I'd imagine the injury is something like a high ankle sprain.  But I suppose we'll find out more in the coming days. The bottom line, though, is that if Lehan is healthy in 4 to 6 weeks, he'd be ready for the beginning of training camp in late July. [UPDATE] The injury to Lehan is actually a dislocated right ankle.  So if any

Good News on the Libel Front
    2008-05-20 14:11:17
Today there was good news on freedom of speech front, as the Wall Street Journal won a complete victory in a libel case involving terror finance issues. The lead reporter, the venerable Glenn Simpson, is now 4-0 since 9/11 in these types of cases. While the victory is a testament to his tenacity and care, it is also a testament to the courage of the WSJ in willing to fight and win these cases. Most are lost simply because the will to fight has gone out of so much of the media, who would often rather...(read more)

Good News! April 15th is Just a Suggestion!
    2008-05-10 13:43:42
Boldly breaking my own unbreakable rule about not putting any video up on my blog was not an easy decision. But I have done so for three reasons. One - I didn't have anything else to put up for the all-important competitive Friday Blog Sweeps. Two - This video does meet my stringent standards for really funny in a strange way.Three - I just can't help myself. People really ought to see this!First off, a tip of the hat to Anok at Identity Check for bring this to my attention. She posted the transcript of this video over at her blog, and I did my due diligence to make sure it was real. Nothing personal Anok, but I just found it incredible that a US Senator could say things like this.Harry Reid, US Senate Majority LeaderWhen I mentioned this exchange on a discussion group, the Kool-Aid drinkers started yammering about entrapment by a clever anti-government antagonistic interviewer. But the vid doesn't show any such thing. And I mean, lets get real.Harry Reid is the Senate Majority Leader.

    Good news, bad news day
    2008-04-25 08:03:28
It's a good news, bad news morning here at Big Blue View. • Good news: Osi Umenyiora says he won't hold out. Hooray! That takes care of one potential distraction the defending Super Bowl champions (God, I still love saying that!) didn't need. • Bad News: Big Blue View's migration to the SBN 2.0 platform will be delayed until next week due to some technical issues. So, you're stuck with trusty old 1.0 for the draft. Speaking of the draft, I am still uncertain about live blogging the blessed event. I plan to, but we'll see if the family has other ideas. Check in and see. • Glauber's Mock: Newsday's Bob Glauber posted his mock draft today. The Giants took ... Jerod Mayo. • Gerris' Big Chance: The Giants plan to give Gerris Wilkinson every chance to prove he can be an impact player.

Dolphins' Pick is In; Good News for the Bills
    2008-04-22 14:00:05
In a development that has taken place remarkably early, the Miami Dolphins have agreed to terms with offensive tackle Jake Long on a 5-year, $57.5 million contract ($30 million guaranteed), which will make Long the first overall pick in Saturday's NFL Draft. The Dolphins have been negotiating with Long for over a week; the team, headed up by Bill Parcells, had also been rumored to be interested in defensive ends Chris Long (Virginia) and Vernon Gholston (Ohio State). While at first glance it may not be the best news to hear that the draft's elite tackle prospect will be playing in the division, this is a development that could be a favorable one for the Buffalo Bills. It has been quite some time since the clear best option for the Bills in the draft has been to trade down; the Bills, who are likely to target a wide receiver or cornerback with their top pick, could trade down and still pick up the top player on their board (whoever that may be). With Long off the board at the top

    2008-04-05 12:10:00
The day after his wife disappeared in a kayaking accident, a Canadian man answered his door to find two grim-faced Mounties. 'We're sorry sir, But we have some information about your wife,' said one Mountie.'Tell me! Did you find her?' the anguished husband sobbed. The Mounties looked at each other. One said, 'We have some bad news, some good news, and some really great news. Which do you want to hear first?'Fearing the worst, the ashen husband said, 'Give me the bad news first.'The Mountie said,'I'm sorry to tell you, Sir, but this morning we found your wife's body in the bay.''Oh my God!' exclaimed the husband. Swallowing hard, he asked, 'What's the good news?'The Mountie continued,'When we pulled her up, she had twelve 25 lb. snow crabs & 6 good-size lobsters clinging to her.'Stunned, the husband demanded,'If that's the good news, what's the great news?'The Mountie said, 'We're gonna pull her up again tomorrow!'

More Good News Out Of Iraq? ABC Only Network Finding It
    2008-03-18 11:30:00
You know, I really have to hand it to ABC as of late. I mean it really must be hard on the media lately with a serious lack of bad news emanating from Iraq. I wrote about this once a few weeks back. And now, it looks like I must give ABC Kudo's again."Fair and balanced," seem to actually be resonating through the halls of ABC's headquarters as the media's overall rating's have plummeted to all time historical lows. The bias runs so thick that you couldn't cut through it with a 40 megaton explosive device. ABC seems to want to change that. When I wrote my last article regarding this subject a few weeks ago, I mentioned how ABC was the only network reporting on the progress and advancements being made in Iraq. Not only at that time had the Iraqi Parliament managed to come to enough agreement to get crucial laws passed, including issues regarding detainee amnesties, but they also managed to get a budget completed and passed. Something our own government seems incapable of doing. Now we have

Good News: Sadr to Extend Ceasefire?
    2008-02-21 15:11:19
Sources tell Reuters that "powerful Shi'ite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr is expected to extend a six-month ceasefire by his Mehdi Army militia."This is great news. Moqtada al-Sadr's peacefire has been one of the reasons the surge has had such military success. If he doesn't extend the ceasefireIf Sadr decides to end the ceasefire, contrary to Reuter's anonymous source's beliefs, the effect could be devastating.Shiite on Shiite violence would flare up, as would Shiite on Sunni. New chaos would only slow the already snail-paced political action. But why would Sadr want to reextend the truce?A couple of reasons:1. The U.S.The United States has kept up pressure militarily and politically to hold Sadr down. The surge was one of the key reasons the Shiite cleric called for the ceasefire; once it began winding down, Sadr could have expected to be able to end his truce and not have to worry about too many Americans. There was a change: Defense secretary Robert Gates came out last month and said troop

No Nashville News Is Good News****NESN World Series DVD Link!!
    2007-12-07 05:22:00
No news WAS good news at the winter meetings in Nashville. Our team is intact, although still in need of two arms for the bullpen and an extention for 'Tek and a contract for Tito. The bullpen needs bother me a little, but I know that Theo and company will address the lack of an extra arm or two for those important 6th, 7th, and 8th innings. It also has been said that Coco is still very likely to be moved and Gagne might be back (no, please, NO!!!!) with the team. But all in all, I like our 2008 Boston Red Sox, and you should, too. I have great confidence in the lineup from top (Ells and Peds) to bottom, the rotation of Beckett, Schilling, Matsuzaka, Buchholz, Lester and Wakefield, and with the bullpen, anchored by the incomparable Jonathon Papelbon. As Lisa would say, "We're going to be great!" And we will. And just in to my email inbox this early Friday morning....NESN has announced all the details of it's very own 2007 World Series DVD, and it looks wonderful. I know many of you w

    A Little Good News
    2007-10-07 22:17:44
Well, my visit to JDC couldn't have been much better. Salinda was repentant, apologetic, accepted responsibility, gave me a long warm hug, let me kiss her, told me she loved me.Now we all just have to convince the powers that be that she can handle being home and we can handle her here. WIth the help of probation, she just may be on the right track.I'm trying not to let the past experience of her brothers affect me and I'm gladly jumping back on the hope train. I know it isn't going to be easy, as she has dug herself quite a hole, but I think she can do it.At least at this point she is saying what she needs to say. Whether or not she means it, I can't determine, but even a willingness to say the things is a step in the right direction. Thanks to everyone for their prayers.

    Not a good news
    2007-10-02 07:34:00
Hope you still remember my post about Yah and Wan and still pray for them. To be honest I once feel they are getting better and nothing serious anymore, but last night my hubby brought a horrible news about Wan. I will share it after Yah's update.Yah will see the doctor again on Oct 10th, 2007. I tried to call her several times before but no one picked up the phone. Just now I call her again and talked to her hubby. He said Yah still coughs often and loose her weight significantly. They have to spend more than 300,000 rupiahs or 33 USD for one time doctor visit and a month medicines. May be it's so cheap for you but for them, 8.3 USD for a doctor is quite a burden. I asked them to bring her every 2 weeks to the doctor but the doctor's fee is expensive. Yah has to have 8 months treatment to get well again, so I think it's ok to meet the doctor once a month as this is a long term treatment. I just make sure that she bought all the medicines and took them regularly.Wan is still hospitalized and yesterday my hubby was called by the hospital because Wan urged to go home. Wan said he couldn't stand to lie down all the time and the hospital is so hot. He wanted to get a treatment at home (actually at his hometown- a small town). This is a very difficult time for this young man, we have to support him in our prayers. He wanted to walk and get convinient environment but he doesn't realize that his own life actually is at stake! My hubby talked patiently to him that he has to hang in there. He must have a perseverance and willingness to do all he can for his recovery...He is told to eat 6 eggs a day and eat fish oil to get much protein to build his body again, but he refuses it. He becomes so thin, how can his body get nutrition and protein to recover? Hm... I don't know.... The worst thing is that one of his leg is actually damaged inside. I posted the other leg's picture, the black and burn one... in fact it was burnt by the surface only. Electricity can damage our body from inside and we even don't notice it until it was severely damaged! The other leg got infectious and has pus inside. It has been operated 4 times to clean the pus and the doctor hope that eventually the pus will decrease and stop then the leg can be covered again. If you want to see his leg, you can click picture 1 and picture 2 warning, it is really horrible! We can see his flesh, pus and bone on those pictures. After seeing that pictures you will understand why he needs high protein to recover. The worst case, if this treatment is not successful, his leg has to be amputated. Sorry to share this sad news to you all. Please don't stop praying for them. Though you don't know them, God loves them and your prayers mean a lot to give them strength in this hard situation.Thank you for my friends who spread this prayer request to their readers. It is highly appreciated. For those who want to support them by spreading this news, you can attach the badge on my right sidebar to your blog.

Though rare, we do get the occasional story offering up something other than differing shades of doom and gloom on climate science. Online Reputation Management - It's All About Spreading The Good News!
    2007-09-10 01:25:00
We all know that bad news travels faster than good news. A bad or negative consumer experience can affect a business ten times more than a positive experience. It can impact the decision of the buyer and make him shift towards a competing brand. Let me illustrate a real life example that happened with me. A couple of weeks ago, I decided to buy a new mobile phone for myself. I had a brand and a model number in my mind. However just before purchasing that particular cell-phone, I decided to do some online research. After all, as human beings, we are driven by user experiences. Well, what I saw changed my decision. The top ten online search results which popped up as I keyed in the query left me in a bit of daze. Pieces of text lying below the name of my favorite product in the search results page, had some negative information that put me off. I did not even click on the link to venture further. I then keyed in the name of a competing brand. Things were much brighter here. There were some positive reviews about the product on the top ten search results that came up. My mind was made; I went ahead and purchased the product which initially had not ranked top-most in the list.Like me, there are many consumers including you who may decide to do some research and learn by other consumer experiences before buying a product or subscribing for a service. With the Web 2.0 search culture coming and the Time Magazine declaring the Person of the Year as You, it is evident that each one of us can create a magnanimous impact with a click of a mouse or a keyboard button. In the olden days, it was a well-known fact that the pen is mightier than the sword. That proverb can be modified to say that the Internet is a greater weapon than the biggest ammunition in the world. Needless to say, the greatest and most dynamic weapon online that can influence, provoke and even manipulate the human mind-a weblog or a blog. The year 2004 heralded ‘blog’ as the word of the year. Years later, the word has transformed itself into action. Today it is a revolution and in the future, blogs are poised to change the way decisions are made. As these are usually free, blogs are both convenient and invaluable. In fact, we can see them people pouring out their sorrows, venting their frustration, expressing their joy through blogs. Evidently, people are also venting out their dissatisfied consumer experiences which influence others to think twice about brand loyalty. One can imagine how much amount of losses, companies will have to suffer due to the whiplash and nasty comments written by these consumers. This calls for an immense amount of damage control and repair. Companies have to be careful that nothing negative or untoward comes up on the first two pages of a search engine. A forward thinking company will have to have a corporate blog in place that can combat such negative news. The methodology, a company adopts to combat apprehension and negativity, and sustain its goodwill and positive image forms the crux of online reputation management.Let us see how a company can use the power of its blog as a valuable online reputation management tool. ABC company does online research and finds out how well (or badly) its product and customer service rate in the top ten search results of the search engine page. It collates data from various blogs, finds out the nature of the complaint and its severity. After this, the company suggests solutions or shares options with the help of blog posts that can ideally solve the consumer queries and keep their speculations to rest. While a company gives its story though its blog post, both the parties are benefited. The consumers restore their faith and confidence in the company because they know that the company truly cares for them. The company on the other hand, gets an opportunity to clarify its stand and earn the goodwill of the consumers. This translates into repeat purchases, brand loyalty and of course a bigger market share. Thus we see that the online reputation management is an infallible tool to a company because it can simplify and clarify a lot of issues and problems which consumers face purely because of miscommunication. No wonder the company I purchased the product from, had a stronger online reputation management compared to the first one.

    Good news everybody!
    2007-08-31 06:12:49
I'm not sure if anyone's been following this blog from post to post, so assuming no one has, I'll step back for a second. A while ago I applied for a job at this amazing store that I never thought would hire me - until they asked me in for an interview. It's been a couple of weeks and they haven't contacted me, so I just assumed that I didn't get the job. All my friends have had to listen to me being excited and nervous and disappointed in different stages of this getting-my-dream-job process. For the past week or so, since the timeframe the store had indicated that they would call me in has passed, a friend of mine has been saying that she'll call up the store and see what's going on. She said she'd get me the job. I had a very bad feeling about this - she was suggesting impersonating me to get me a job. Quite risky. Still, I really, really want this job, and since I didn't have to have anything to do with it, I let her try. Well, this evening she called the store. Her version of the phone call:'some chick answered, i think her name was Lauren and i'm like can i speak to the manager and she's like "who's calling?" and i nearly said my name but luckily i had your number highlighted on my phone incase they asked for it and i was like "it's Miss Milk. I'm just ringing about an interview i had a couple of weeks ago"her - "oh yeah! sorry, we've just been really busy with the climate change and i haven't been able to make any decisions. but i will definately let you know by next week"me - "so expect a call next week?"her - "yeah. next week"me - "okay. thank you!"her - "bye" 'Do you know what this means?! I'm in with a chance! I won't get my hopes up too high, though. I probably still didn't get the job. It's nice to know that they'll contact me, though. If I'm not to be hired, I'll ask them when a good time to try applying again would be, and if there was anything in particular stopping them from hiring me, such as how far away I live, or my lac

Today brought good news and bad news to the loyal ...
    2007-08-08 05:28:00
Today brought good news and bad news to the loyal subjects of Red Sox Nation. The good news - Wily Mo Pena cleared waivers so he can be traded up until August 31st. I didn't expect a donnybrook involving all the teams that surely want a player of his caliber, but a mild scuffle should have been in the works, right? Which brings us to the bad news - Wily Mo still sucks. Of course, as a resident of New England, it is my solemn duty to gloss over his abysmal performance since he joined the Red Sox by attributing said sucking to his overall lack of playing time. The prevailing theory there is Wily Mo would suck less if he played more and got into a groove. Of course this leads to a chicken vs. egg debate with more rational people who attribute Wily Mo's lack of playing time to the fact that he has shown no capacity to justify more ABs or starts because he sucks. The trade that brought Wily Mo to our little corner of paradise has inherent value for the Red Sox organization, even if the on-

When I left the house yesterday morning I was bathed in glorious sunshine, I made a mental note to finish early and get some serious sunbathing done in the back garden. I like to relax now and again, drink a tin or two and just spend time thinking. I hadn’t gone far when I saw a bloody great black cloud the size of the Home Counties slowly making its way toward Manchester like the mother ship in “Independence Day”.Typical, oh well scrub mental note and don work mindset instead, not easy to do when you hate work, well not hate it but it gets so boring. Hardly anything happens at Karting2000 which is why I wasn’t looking forward to updating the newsletter. I sat in the office staring at the walls desperately trying to come up with something that was mildly interesting. I thought about making something up, but you always get found out, unless of course you’re a tabloid newspaper then you can lie through your eye teeth and get away with it.I decided to join the smokers outside in

    Some Good News
    2007-07-18 18:39:29
I wish I was writing that the 4 remaining unsigned rookies had been signed, but that's still not the case and, yes, time is running out.  But there is good news on this Wednesday morning and it comes from ESPN's John Clayton, courtesy of his blog: Chambers safe: For those in Miami worried about the status of wide receiver Chris Chambers because of his weekend incident in he was suspected of driving while impaired and speeding, he doesn't have much of a chance of being suspended if he's found guilty. First, the courts won't be able to start his case until the middle of August. Second, he doesn't have any past incidents that would put him in front of commissioner Roger Goodell. He will be available for the opener against the Redskins and thereafter. That's good to hear.  And having it come from Clayton is certainly a good thing, as he is one of the very few people from ESPN whose stories I trust.  Hopefully, this gets taken care of fairly quickly so that it isn't a

More Good News: New 7 Wonders of the World
    2007-07-08 23:21:51
“The Great Wall of China was named as one of the new seven wonders of the world on Saturday in the Portugal’s capital of Lisbon, July 7, 2007. Brazil’s Statue of Christ Redeemer, Peru’s Machu Picchu, Mexico’s Chichen Itza pyramid, Jordan’s Petra, the Colosseum in Rome and India’s Taj Mahal were also chosen as the modern-day seven wonders of the world, according to a global vote by about 100 million Internet and telephone voters around the world.” (Xinhua Photo) The addition of seven modern-day wonders is not good news for some western cultural and historical purists but it sure is for me. This strengthens my chances of being able to visit one of them some day, since all the other Seven Wonders of the Ancient World has been lost to history except for the Pyramid of Giza. (more…)

Cebu: Good News for a Change

It is also the site of the the country’s first Small and Medium Enterprise SME Industrial Park. Good News For North Georgia Real Estate!
    2007-07-05 21:10:00
I was reading an article by Mardell Cully over at realtytimes.com and he made some important observations that I wanted to share with you. He states: "Overall market conditions for Atlanta remain strong and vibrant for several different sectors including first-time homebuyers, buyers "moving-up" to the $200-$350K price range, and investors seeking to capitalize on historically low interest rates. With the current popularity of interest-only loans and competition among lenders, low mortgage rates continue to fuel the housing market and mutually beneficial deals are being negotiated for both buyers and sellers."Hank Miller from the same site writes:"We've seen a bit more activity in the North Atlanta real estate market over the last two weeks as relocation buyers from around the country add to local buyers. Now that schools are out in most states, transferees are starting to appear - and that's a good thing! If you're headed to North Atlanta, you'll be pleased with the area as well a

Good News for American Track & Field Athletes
    2007-06-28 18:22:00
The latest IAAF newsletter is out and, guess what? No Americans are on the "Athletes Sanctioned for Doping Offenses" list on page 7!Here is a list of countries cited, in descending order of number of athletes sanctioned:Iran, 8France, 2Turkey, 2Great Britain, 1Jamaica, 1China, 1Brazil, 1Slovenia, 1Belgium, 1Nepal, 1Russia, 1South Africa, 1What, you might ask, is Nepal doing on the doping sanctions list? Apparently, steroids are handed out like chocolates in Nepali sport. In fact, they are chocolates! Here's an article in which the Nepalese athlete who got sanctioned, Rajendra Bhandari, states that his victory in the men's 5000m at the 10th South Asian Games, "is due to my hard work and effort from the coaches." Now that Bhandari has been suspended for 2 years and his victory at the South Asian Games has been nullified due to the "presence of the prohibited substance Norandrosterone (S1. Anabolic Agents) in his doping control sample," we know what kind of "effort from the coaches"
