    2008-03-11 11:12:00
"If I were Goodyear, I'd be very embarrassed about the tire they brought this weekend," complained NASCAR driver Tony Stewart, the second-place finisher at last Sunday's Kobalt Tools 500 in Atlanta, Georgia. "If they can't do better than that, they should pull out of the sport," continued the

Stewart, Earnhardt think bad of Goodyear's tires
    2008-03-10 21:30:46
Personally I think it's the bump stops and not the tires, but that's just my opinion. The balancing act between safety concerns and competition that Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. faces each week was the post-race focus of several top finishers Sunday. It left both sides defensive and fans wondering what happened to the typical side-by-side racing for which Atlanta Motor Speedway is famous.Tony Stewart, who finished second in the Kobalt Tools 500, and third-place finisher Dale Earnhardt Jr. were outspoken in their criticism for the tire compound brought to Atlanta. There were no tire failures reported during the race, but the two agreed that the harder tire made it almost impossible for drivers to run side-by-side. Only thirteen cars were on the lead lap at the finish."That was the most pathetic racing tire that I've ever been on in my professional career," Stewart said. "... Goodyear can't build a tire that is worth a crap. If I were Goodyear, I would be really embarrassed about this wee

    2007-08-06 00:13:19
The Supreme Court handed down so many bad decisions this term that the really terrible rulings obscured several decisions of the "bad, but not extraordinarily bad" variety. Among that neglected catagory was Ledbetter v. Goodyear. Here's the story: the petitioner, Ledbetter, worked for Goodyear for 19 years. After all that time, she discovered that the company was paying her less than her male

AUSTRALIA: BHP's Kloppers Succeeds Goodyear as Chief Executive
    2007-05-31 05:36:00
BHP Billiton Ltd., the world's largest mining company, promoted Marius Kloppers to chief executive officer, giving him control over $17.5 billion of projects as costs rise and industry takeovers increase. Kloppers, 44, who heads the division contributing more than half BHP's profit, succeeds Charles Goodyear on Oct. 1, the Melbourne-based company said in a statement today. He'd been named by analysts and investors as the most likely candidate. South African-born Kloppers takes over a company that's delivered seven straight half-year record earnings due to soaring Chinese demand and commodity prices. Surging profits spurred more than $79 billion of takeover bids in the industry this year, including Alcoa Inc.'s hostile offer for Alcan Inc. ``Kloppers has been focused on building the revenue end of the company and he is very good at it,'' said Peter Chilton, who helps manage the equivalent of $1.4 billion at Constellation Capit
