| Google Analytics for Blogger now in private beta | | 2008-05-08 04:00:01 | | Several weeks back at South by Southwest, Jeff Veen announced our new Google Analytics for Blogger reporting interface. Currently available only in private beta, this product is a collaboration of several teams and marks the transition of Measure Map customers to a new Google Analytics interface designed specifically for Blogger users. Here's what Jeff had to say:"Many of you may remember when Google acquired Measure Map, our analytics product for blogs. When we came to Google, our first job was to take the experience of providing clear, accessible reports, coupled with powerful tools for analysis, and apply it to Google's already robust Analytics product. The result of that collaboration launched last May, in the redesigned Google Analytics interface.Since then the team has been hard at work fulfilling our original promise: to help bloggers understand the impact that their blogs are having on the world. To that end, we've rebuilt Measure Map as an integrated feature of both Google Anal | | By: Blogging for Blogs | | |

| Google Analytics Benchmarking Live | | 2008-03-25 04:01:00 | | Googles new benchmarking section is live now in Google Analytics. If you opted in to the servive, you will find it in your site stats navigation at Visitors -> Benchmarking. You will then see a number of charts from sites of comparable traffic, so that you can find out if e.g. your visitors stay longer on pages than average, or if they visit more pages than average. Your own sites traffic will be displayed in the usual blue, whereas the traffic of all the other comparable sites is displayed with a gray line. (Note that the invidiual charts graphics use sub titles, not headlines; this is formatted so it can be misunderstood.)Also, a category list on top offers items like Entertainment/ Music or Society/ Education which you can pick from to restrict the charts to compare to sites within that category only.

| Google Analytics 2.0 - Book review | | 2008-03-23 03:23:00 | | Google Analytics 2.0 by Jerri L. Ledford , Mary E. TylerBefore reading this book, I didn’t even think anyone could write a whole book about a free service that looked pretty simple to understand. I mean, hey all you need to know is how many people visit the site and from where, right? Wrong! Read along and I will tell you what I learned. I think by now a lot of people have heard about google’s free service to track information about your website. Perhaps you even already have it installed. I think most people would agree that statistics are important. That and its just fun to see the number of visitors, especially when they are increasing. But beyond the number of visitors, I didn’t care about much else. Mostly due to not knowing what they stood for or just thinking they didn’t matter much.Well let me just say that after reading 300 or so pages about google analytics, I have a very different opinion on the matter.

| Google Analytics Benchmarking Beta | | 2008-03-13 13:42:00 | | I logged into my Google Analytics account tonight only to be presented with a new option: Benchmarking Beta. Apparently you can opt into a program that lets Google anonymously datamine all of your statistics. (At first you're always thinking why on earth you would want to opt into this.) However, if you do so, data from other sites that have also enabled benchmarking all get combined and Google shows how your site compares to industry standards.I can't really comment much on the new feature because it says that my first report will appear within a few weeks, but I'm encouraged to see what type of statistics it will present me with.

| google analytics and adwords | | 2008-02-24 09:42:00 | | Whatever else Google Analytics is, it’s a power tool for Google’s AdWords program. Like the radial arm saw that you use to create the perfect shelf for your entertainment hutch, Google Analytics is the tool you use to build the perfect AdWords campaign. So which came first, the chicken or the egg? Does it really matter if you have both? AdWords and Analytics have the same concept. It doesn’t matter which you have first, since the two are (or can be) connected to form a single entity that helps you do more, better. Why Google Analytics with AdWords? If you’re already using AdWords, you might be wondering why you would want to put the two together. Even without Google Analytics, AdWords has decent reporting capabilities. But when you add Google Analytics, what you get is a picture of your campaign performance worth a thousand (Ad)Words. Not only can you see what a visitor put into your internal search box, but what page they were on when they made the search and what page they chose in the search results. Any internal search will work as long as it passes the search variable through the URL. Heres a short video interview with Googles Brett Crosby on some of those features.strong>Filter out domains. Lets say your Google Analytics code somehow got on another site and your stats were getting tainted with irrelevant data. No problem. You can create a filter to not count anyone from specific domains you add in. Oddly enough, you can also filter out your own domain so your stats flat line. Not a good idea to do that though.

| Google Analytics Asleep at the Wheel? | | 2008-02-11 19:25:00 | | Or, am I?I installed the code for Google Analytics on the 14th and the tracking data has been rockin' since I've been watching it. It's SO much better than the former interface I was using. But I admit that I wasn't very blog active last week and I looked at the analytics dashboard to find this today:Visitor Flatline since the 2nd. Which I know isn't right... so what gives? What did I change? I changed the blog over to my own DNS late on the 30th and those few days tracked just fine. The high mark there is Feb 1... so what gives? I did change the template somewhere in there but I'm not sure what day that was...I tried reinstalling the code and I'm not seeing a difference yet, but it's entirely possible that it's taking more time than I have patience right now.Does anyone have any ideas? I know that I'm getting visitors (well I'm pretty sure...), I just don't know why they're not tracking at all. I obviously have a lot to learn... | | By: Print This! | | |

| Google Analytics and Google AdWords | | 2007-12-07 20:31:00 | | Google provides a quick, effective and hassle-free way for merchants to advertise their products and services in the Internet through Google AdSense, a cost-per click and cost-per impression advertising service, where ads are displayed along search and content sites and search results done in the Google network. Merchants will be charged when online users click on the ads that are shown. Keywords are chosen in which the ads will appear, and the merchants will specify on how much they are willing to shell out for each click. There are various benefits that advertisers can get from utilizing Google AdWords. Unlike other online advertising channels, AdWords enables the advertiser to do away with deadlines and contracts. Google's kind of advertising does not ask prepayment and packages. It is by this method that merchants can manage their advertising campaigns with their preferred performance metrics. The service gives maximum exposure for advertisers due to the sheer number of visitors acquired by the various sites included in the Google network. Advertisements are displayed along search and content sites and products in audience comprising about 80% Internet users in the U.S. Ads appear beside search results or occupying a space in a results page a user navigates through to get to a site directory.Google's own electronic mail service, Gmail, also features the ads.To make the service more advantageous for advertisers, AdWords has integrated with Google Analytics. Google Analytics informs advertisers information such as the channels to which online visitors located their ads and the manner they react and interact with the site. The service enables merchants gain more visitors to their pages. Google Analytics also monitors the activities of merchants that are not related to AdWords, without any charge at all. With Analytics, one can create marketing campaigns that are target-centered and ROI-driven.The initial announcement that Google is offering this service alongside A | | By: All of Adsense | | |

Site owners will soon be getting a way to see what their users are searching for within the site, potentially making it easier for them to reorganize, or prioritize the what's on the page. Users will also have their choice of several third-party search tools that work with the new search analytics, along with Google Custom Search, Google Mini, and Google's enterprise search appliance. The service is also rolling out a new "Events Tracking" section for keeping tabs on all sorts of user interaction including widgets, embedded movies, and outbound links--the links that take visitors off your site. The latter of which has been available for some time from services like CrazyEgg and MyBlogLog ClickTagging, but a welcome addition nonetheless. The other cool thing is that the new JavaScript code will update automatically with any additional features Google decides to add later on down the line.

We are excited about the positive response to the first Boot Camp and look forward to incorporating the feedback we received to continually improve the offerings said Dave Winslow, CEO of EpikOne.

| Google Analytics Limits You to 50 Accounts | | 2007-09-28 16:29:00 | | My friend Sam, who I met at SES New York, ran into an interesting dilemma at the Cre8asite Forums. She's managing several Google Analytics accounts under one master account. According to the Google Analytics Help, Google Analytics will track an unlimited amount of websites. However, she's stuck at 50 and is getting the following message: Add Website Profile » You have reached the maximum number of website profiles allowed.

| Google Analytics in AIR | | 2007-09-25 15:35:00 | | This unofficial AIR version of Google Analytics delivers the functionality of browser-based Google Analytics but with greater usability and a richer experience. If you haven’t heard of AIR (once named “Apollo”), it’s a platform developed by Adobe that enables web developers to deploy their web services outside of the browser so they function more like traditional applications. This is the first AIR program that I have tested that really gets me excited about the platform. As a beta program, it’s not perfect (I ran into a few errors), but overall it has been executed very well. It’s also nice to see such a full-functional program developed using someone else’s API (in this case, Google’s).

| Is Google Analytics the Killer App? | | 2007-08-04 23:38:00 | | This is his opening statement, and I don’t know where to begin. Statements like “killed the web analytics software industry” and “simply a quantum leap above any other analytics product on the planet” are bizarre. Is Dainow paying any attention to the web analytics market? Omniture continues to accelerate, WebTrends has released a great new version of their application, Microsoft is about to release their own free offering, And don’t get me wrong: I really do like Google Analytics, and I use it regularly, but there is absolutely no possible justification for saying that Google Analytics is a quantum leap better than other available applications. Google Analytics has some pretty visualizations, a slick UI, and does a good job of integrating with Google’s search marketing products, but a “quantum leap?” I think not.

| Six Months of Google Analytics | | 2007-08-04 19:02:00 | | Back in February, my friend Chris introduced me to a new free service provided by Google called "Google Analytics." What it is basically is a detailed breakdown of those people who visit your web site: where they are from, how often they visit and what parts of your site they go to.I love Site Meter and what it does, but Google Analytics does goes beyond what they can do. I first installed Google Analytics on my site in early February, and last night I realized it had been exactly six months since I did. So I went back to see the stats over that period of time. They were to say the least fascinating.I've had a total of just over 27,100 hits on my site the last six months. just under 19,000 of them were unique hits (in other words, individual people, not counting the same people twice or more). 43.6% of all people who visited my site were referred here (mostly by links of all kinds), 36.2% found me through search engines, and 20.2% came here directly. Just over one-third of all people | | By: The Mighty Quinn Media Machine | | |

| Google Analytics Up and Running Again | | 2007-07-31 23:15:00 | | The Google Analytics blog announced on Monday that many users were subject to a Temporary Reporting Delay. Since this was in place since Saturday night, many of the affected users were already aware that something was up. The post reassures us that no data will be lost in the process. An update on the situation late on Monday stated that this situation was almost fully rectified. I can confirm that the accounts I am aware of that were affected do seem to have up to date data at this point in time, so this update seems to be in place, for some of us at least. It does look, however, like there is still some data missing from this past Saturday.

| Google has awarded Docklands company iQ Content with "Google Analytics Authorised Consultants" | | 2007-07-28 00:22:00 | | Web analytics is a process of systematically evaluating a website to determine what's really happening when visitors locate and use a website. It allows the stakeholders to better understand their website, make web design changes based on data factors as oppose to 'feel good' factors which leads to better usability and return on investment, which is of particular importance in the age where web design and development can be a pricey exercise. Google's free Analytics tool measures where commercial website traffic is coming from, whether online advertising is bringing visitors to your website and ultimately whether those visitors are being converted into paying customers. .

| Tracking RSS Subscriptions with Google Analytics | | 2007-07-26 23:49:00 | | There are other problems such as how people interact with your RSS content, but even being able to determine which sources of traffic result in subscribers would be a huge commercial advantage for bloggers, allowing them to focus their efforts on traffic generation strategies that will grow their business. Hamlet Batista has been doing some digging, and has worked out how to track RSS subscribers based upon the source of traffic, and it even works with Feedburner's RSS to Email feature.

(One of the judges, Avinash Kaushik, wrote me this morning, “You have my permission to shame me on this one, you can blame me for the delay in awarding prizes.”) The other judge was Justin Cutroni of Epikone. I let them make the decisions and then cast the tie-breaking vote where necessary. Justin and Avinash, thank you.

| Google Analytics e Internet Explorer 7 | | 2007-05-18 18:19:42 | |

| Google Analytics | | 2007-04-20 16:12:51 | | I just wanted to bring to light, or back to light as the case may be, Google Analytics, which is google’s stats product formerly known as Urchin. I remember Analytics when it was Urchin and it was a great product then, but since Google has purchased it and made it free it’s received a whole lot more attention, and why should it? A free stats program offered by the biggest internet search company in the world, who wouldn’t want to use this product.
It provides your basic stats such as referrers, entry and exit pages, and browser types. It also goes even further then that and can integrate with your adwords account which makes tracking your own campaigns that much better. If you’re looking for an analytics company to help you setting things up than your best bet is to hit up Google, or just click on the link I just posted. The service is free remember, so it really can’t hurt you.
