Quite a few bloggers have noted that the auctions has been like watching grass grow yet some .me domains like toyota.me had been sold in just a few days. The grass is greener... in Sahara?!
    2008-08-11 03:22:00
With 3G being introduced, RCom has to avoid being the Vodafone of modern times...The grass is always greener on the other side. If you’re wondering why we’re repeating this oft harped over remark, digest this – on one hand, Anil Ambani’s Reliance Communications is gearing-up for an African safari, while on the other, foreign players are all set for an Indian vacation with open 3G auctions. With almost 7-8 million monthly additions to subsciber base, the domestic telecom industry, which currently runs on 2G platform, is further set to get a boost from all quarters with Indian policymakers allowing an open bid in its 3G space, with no limitations to foreign bids. As per a government official, “We have a 74% FDI limit in the telecom sector. Whether there is common auction or open auction, there will be no bar on foreign players. Either way, they will be allowed.” Though this open bid process will pose a challenge to many, a handful of players with Unified Access Services Licenc...

    Enough with the Hippie Grass
    2008-06-24 11:15:00
Armed with a power trimmer I'm taking on the hill, cutting the grass, preparing for some civilized landscaping. I've started on top of the hill and will be working my way down. Vigorous raking will keep me fit this summer. Also, need to find more spots to hide the mounts of cut grass. This was obviously a mistake, tall rye grass is not appealing and looks like a bad hair due after rain. ...

    Blue-eyed Grass
    2008-06-12 05:37:21
Blue-eyed GrassSisyrinchium(sis-ee-RINK-ee-um)Not sure what species of Sisyrinchium this is since it arrived in the garden on its own. It is a fun little plant to grow and I will be encouraging it to spread. Apparently there is a bit of confusion of the number and naming of species as they are listed as between 70 and 150. A little research revealed that there is other flower colors available. This is the only color I have ever seen.It is funny about the name, as it is not actually a true grass but a member of the Iris family (Iridaceae), nor does it have a blue eye. It doesn’t seem to be too fussy about where it grows. I have seen it growing in both moist and dry areas and in between rocks. It also seems to be deer resistant. This was a little Depth of Field experiment that I was performing for my benefit but thought it might be nice to share. Both photos were shot with my D70s and 60mm Micro-Nikkor lens. I have been using Aperture Mode to shoot a lot of my recent pictures. They seem...

Tips On Shopping For Bamboo Or Grass Window Shades
    2008-05-24 16:28:08
Bamboo or grass window shades, like bamboo flooring, have grown in popularity in recent years and given the many benefits associated with them, it's not surprising.Bamboo shades are a little like Clint Eastwood was in his younger days; tough, durable and they've got the look! Even better, they are an affordable alternative to more expensive traditional blinds and offer the versatility of being suitable for indoor or outdoor purposes.Bamboo Roman ShadesThese are a top mounted roll up shade. In fact, they can present both a modern or earthy look to a home and are available in many different patterns. When raised, roman shades fold up in a graceful style making them attractive even when they are not "in full sail." For cleaning purposes, running over them with a vacuum will usually do however, there is also scope to light clean with a sponge.Bamboo Shades FactWhile exterior bamboo shades are becoming more and more popular because of their weather resistance, other components which go into...

Grass-Fed Beef is Better-Fed, Better for You, Better for the Planet
    2008-05-21 00:09:00
Grass is the natural food for cattle – not grain, which is difficult for cattle to digest and can necessitate the use of antibiotics. The introduction of even a little grain into the cattle's diet diminishes the quality of the beef, reducing both health benefits and the real beef flavor. Most beef in most supermarkets and butchers comes from gigantic industrialized meat processors, who are more concerned with their bottom line than with raising healthy cattle in humane ways. They pack cattle into feedlots where the animals are fed grain laced with antibiotics, hormones and steroids so that they grow bigger faster and can withstand the cramped, inhumane environment. Even some so-called "grass-fed" brands can be "finished" on grain to produce rapid weight gain before market. For the best health of humans and cows the cattle should be born, raised, and finished on a ranch, where they graze rotationally in open pastures on the tips of tall grass. Strangely enough, this sustainable approa...

    Green Grass
    2008-05-09 17:55:52
So far this spring our grass seems to be doing VERY well. Last year (first growing season for the new lawn) the lawn just never really grew very well. It wasn't very green, didn't grow very fast and overall seemed to be struggling to stay alive. So last fall we had our soil tested and found out that our soil was very acidic and lacking in some important nutrients that grass needs to grow well. The biggest thing our soil needed was lime in order to "sweeten" the soil and increase the pH. We also had to choose the correct fertilizer based on the soil report.I think the combination of the lime and fertilizer that we applied has worked wonders for the grass. As you can see it's very green and it appears to be growing in much thicker. I'm hoping that the lawn will establish itself much better this summer so we won't have to rely on fertilizers as much.Tags: home improvement, home improvement blog...

    Smiley Discovers Grass
    2008-03-03 12:24:00
On Providenciales there is no grass. Grass as we know it in the US is not native to this region, and tends not to grow well on coral rock limestone, requiring a lot of looking after. On Parrot Cay, however, we have a lot of well kept grass and Smiley loves it! Here she is just yesterday enjoying a roll in the grass:Could she be any cuter? As Perennial As The Grass
    2008-02-14 02:39:00
As I walked through the forest of life in search of the perfect flower, the first flower that I chanced upon was the rose. It was exquisite and elegant. It was rich and charismatic. It was delicate and charming. It was not meant for the ordinary. It was made for someone special. This is the flower I had been looking for all my life! My heart soared to great heights. What more could someone ask for. It could not get more perfect than this. It was my first love.Day and night, I wove dreams of togetherness with this love. The thought that I would possess it forever made me so happy, I thought I was becoming insane. My search had come to an end.As I moved closer to it, the rose eluded me. I eventually realized that the rose was not made for me. What a disappointment it was. How would I live without it? I wept in grief at my loss. I wept for several days. I had loved and lost.It left behind a void in my life which no one else could ever fill. First love is never forgotten. I would never l...

    Ladybug (Ladybird) on Grass Stem
    2008-01-21 05:06:00
Ladybug (Ladybird) on Grass StemFinding a name for this creature was difficult. According to my searches, it is called a Ladybug in the US, but predominantly a Ladybird in the UK and Australia. So I've chosen a compromise here, and called it both! :)Here is an old nursery rhyme we have here in Australia about the Ladybird - can anyone tell me if this is popular in the US too?Ladybird ladybird fly away home,Your house in on fire and your children are gone,All except one and that's little Ann,For she crept under the frying pan. This photo taken with the Fujifilm S9600 digital camera.Shutter speed: 1/124, F4.0, ISO 100 Submit Photos to Shutterstock and make $$$! Basketball on Grass
    2007-10-14 21:35:45
Our MessiahI didn’t go to the Homecoming game yesterday vs. Purdue because I have some sort of cold (complete with fever, coughing and copious amounts of snot draining down my throat), but it allowed me the opportunity to sit smack dab in front of my TV and thanks to the power of DVR watch every play in pretty good detail. I just fast forwarded through all the commercials and time between plays and focused on the action. This had the added bonus of my not really having to listen to the Big Ten Network commentators. I’m going to make a few quick observations before moving on to my main point: - Michigan played well yesterday, offensively and defensively. - While Michigan only got two sacks, the line seemed to contain Painter pretty well and actually closed the pocket on him. - Henne was 21-28 for 268 yards and 2 touchdowns… just incredible. - Hart had 21 carries for 102 yards and 2 touchdowns… in the first half. I’m starting to really get excited about the Heisman, he just better not be hurt badly. - I thought Carlos Brown ran the ball well as Hart’s replacement, and he didn’t fumble, which was a nice change of pace for Hart backups. - K.C. Lopata: 2/2 FGs, 6/6 PATs. “When you look at our season, we needed a game that we played our best game. I think we did that." –Lloyd Carr The team really did play great, and my confidence has actually been restored to this team for the first time since the summer. Finally, what the hell was Tiller doing at the end of the game? Did he pull Painter to give his second string QB some reps, or was it because Painter was sucking? And what was with the two onside kicks at the end of the game? Was he trying to give Michigan some practice fielding them seeing as they have been shitty at it (and special teams as a whole really) all season? Did he actually think he had a chance to come back down by 41 with about two minutes remaining in the game? Does Basketball on Grass require onside kicks at the end of the game? Is this like full court press? Was he trying to make the score look less embarrassing by putting two touchdowns on Michigan’s second string defense? Was he having so much fun that he didn’t want Michigan to run out the clock and have the game be over?Okay, half of those ideas are complete jokes, but I honestly don’t know what was going through his head. Maybe someone else has an idea about this. If I’m not mistaken, he still had all the rest of his starters in (save Painter), which I don’t really understand seeing that the outcome of the game was a forgone conclusion and Michigan had pulled all of their starters. Give your scrubs a chance to play, Tiller!Holy hell, is that Wilford Brimley?Links:KudroniaMichigan Football SaturdaysSnyderWojoNote: All pictures taken from The Detroit Free Press website. ...

Life on a smaller scale [Mushrooms in Grass]
    2007-08-18 22:53:00
These two small groups of mushrooms are the type that spring up immediately after some rain, and then disappear as quickly as they came. Although we have had a lot of rain here lately, I actually took these photos a few years ago when the Kodak C330 was new. These photos depict two different types of mushroom, one group short with a slight brownish tint to their "caps", or "heads", and the other tall and thin, with flatter, white caps. I think this photo conveys a sense of silent, stealthy growth - the mushrooms appear to be "still life", but all the while they are quietly growing underfoot. The first of these two photos has the popular "bi-focal" arrangement - two major subjects dominate the picture, complementing each other and providing an interesting field in which the eye can play. On the left, we have the tight bunch of 4 small mushrooms, while on the right a sprig of grass splays out, leading our eyes in the opposite direction. In the second photo, the mushrooms seem to be strain...

Blade of grass with water droplets
    2007-06-03 07:41:00
Blade of Grass with small water dropletsI'm back! I've finally got openSUSE Linux installed and functioning properly, so this blog is now officially live again! This is an extreme close-up photo of a single blade of grass covered in small droplets of water. The photo was taken from about 1-2 cm away from the piece of grass - the closest focus range that the Sony DSC-H1 could achieve, and indeed the closest any camera could get without touching the subject!Looking at the composition again, the eye is immediately drawn to the sharply focused water droplets in the middle of the picture. The image gives the impression of freshness and beauty, and the crisp edges of the blade of grass in the middle also add a sense of capturing the moment. The deep green of the grass stands out clearly against the rich brown of the undergrowth in the background. This image is yet another "post-rain" photograph - the high saturation and the presence of water droplets are typical of this style of photo. This p...

    The Grass Is Always Greener...
    2007-05-09 03:17:00
Is Fred Thompson really the GOP savior? Not really. What does Thompson possess that the crowded Republican field doesn't already offer? Some Thompson supporters suggest that he has the strongest record of any candidate or would be candidate. That simply isn't the reality of the situation though. Thompson spent eight years in the Senate without accomplishing anything of real significance before leaving for Hollywood. He is no stronger a social conservative than Sam Brownback or Mike Huckabee. Fiscally, nearly every Republican candidate favors reduced spending and tax cuts. Tom Tancredo and Duncan Hunter have been stronger on immigration. He has little experience in dealing with foreign policy, while Duncan Hunter has been chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, John McCain is a war hero, and Rudy Giuliani became "America's Mayor" on 9/11. His record, in fact, is rather similar to that of John McCain, his close friend and the man he backed in 2000.Others say that Thompson oozes...

    Grass
    2007-05-07 05:07:35
I had a long and eventful weekend, where I did a lot of trekking about town and buying cheap stuff and lazing around in the sun. And studying for the SAT IIs. But the most important thing I learned has very little to do with the rise of nation-states in western Europe. It is simply this: nothing feels better than soft, fresh grass under your bare feet after you’ve been out walking for a couple hours. Being surrounded by daffodils and evening sunlight doesn’t hurt either. ...
