    ELKAS Electricity Producing Greenhouse
    2008-07-07 06:37:25
Elkas (the electricity supplying greenhouse) shows how to convert solar energy into electricity. In designing energy generating greenhouses the emphasis still lies in systems that supply low-grade forms of energy (i.e. warmth). The electricity generating greenhouse is aimed at catching the radiation that is not being used for crop growth and converting it in high [...]...

Greenhouse Gases, Climate Change, Ozone Layer, Solar Power
    2008-05-29 14:31:55
In last months, I've been noticing more and more articles, how the increased solar activity is the cause of global warming and climate changes. By their words, we should blame the solar power. What an utter nonsense! Luckily, it had been defeated by many very extensive scientific studies, including NASA. Climate changes and global warming in this very moment are entirely caused by human activity on earth. In this very short video Vermont state climatologist Lesley-Ann Dupigny-Giroux explains one of the major planetary components of climate change: greenhouse gases. The ozone layer protects us from UV radiation, but with increased greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, the 'greenhouse effect' is largely increased, warming and deflecting more solar radiation back to the earth. Her experiment shows, how even on a very dark or snowing day the earth is still receiving UV radiation. We simply have no other choice, than to switch to free solar power and other renewable energy sources, if we want to...

    The Fish Tank Greenhouse
    2008-05-01 22:53:35
I guess you could call this recycling. My husband’s cousin’s widow gave me a 10 gallon fish tank that she said she was just going to throw away. It was practically brand new and in perfect condition. So, I couldn’t turn it down. The filter that came with it was very poor quality and insufficient [...]...

    Pump Away Greenhouse Gas?
    2008-04-17 09:05:00
Recent cap-and-trade proposals use economics to address the removal of CO2 from the emissions of coal-burning power plants and other greenhouse gas producers. Such proposals, however, bring into question long-term storage scenarios such as geologic sequestration. Is pumping CO2 into oil reserves or...

UNITED STATES: Bush to Endorse Ending U.S. Greenhouse Emissions Growth by 2025
    2008-04-16 10:31:01
President George W. Bush today will set a goal for the U.S. to stop the growth of greenhouse gas emissions by 2025, an administration official said. In a speech at the White House later today, the president will outline a path for the nation to help curb global warming. Among the goals is letting... [[ This is a content summary only. Sufi in the Greenhouse
    2008-02-08 13:02:58
Last week (before I was trapped for an entire day in the Toronto airport - with the Spice Girls - while flying home from Edmonton) I shared a story related by John McKnight with a moral that posits ultimate wisdom is found in the local community rather than from an expert.  This ......

    An Incarnational Greenhouse
    2008-01-15 09:53:55
Last week we discussed two things we do not want to grow in our youth ministry greenhouse: Kudzu and Bonzai. What, then, shall we grow? I argue that the answer to this question cannot be provided from “above” through some magical formula, model, or paradigm. Rather, your youth ministry g......

    Outcome-Oriented Greenhouse
    2008-01-07 11:03:34
I introduced outcome-oriented youth ministry in October, and discussed it again in the debate on playing Halo with youth.  I want to continue this idea today using the metaphor of a greenhouse, which is certainly outcome-oriented. The manager of a greenhouse has some very c......

    Youth Ministry Greenhouse
    2008-01-04 09:25:09
Through the years I've heard many metaphors used to describe youth ministry, including the funnel, the womb, keys to a home, a pyramid, and of course the PDYM baseball diagram.  I'll cover all of these in suffiencient detail in future posts.  However, today I would like to suggest a model ......

Goal is global consensus on greenhouse gases
    2007-09-23 05:41:00
We in the United States — and we as global citizens — live in what is, in many respects, a golden moment. Economic growth is globally strong, and, if security threats can be contained, this expansion, with some ups and downs, can be sustained.Strong growth means increased use of energy at a pace that can strain the capacity to supply what is needed at a reasonable price. This highlights two urgent questions: how to use energy without producing excess greenhouse gases that create disruptive conditions on a global scale; and how to reduce the threat to national security from excess dependence on oil. ...

GERMANY: G-8 Vows Greenhouse Gas Curbs; U.S. Escapes Targets
    2007-06-07 20:59:00
Leaders of the Group of Eight main industrial nations vowed a renewed global push to fight rising temperatures, while agreeing not to force the U.S. and Russia to set targets now for cutting greenhouse gas emissions. The European Union, Japan and Canada pledged at the G-8 summit to cut carbon emissions in half by 2050. The U.S. and Russia promised to take part in talks on a new international treaty to combat global warming. ``The possibility is here for the first time of getting a global deal on climate change with substantial cuts in emissions and everyone in on the deal,'' U.K. Prime Minister Tony Blair told reporters in Heiligendamm, Germany, today. After giving ground to European critics last week by proposing an international conference to stem man-made pollution that is overheating the earth's atmosphere, President George W. Bush refused to go further at the G-8. Bush's global warming initiative at first ...
