Rwasa (r) promising to stop killing people in 2005Rwasa (l) promising to stop killing people in 2006Rwasa (c) promising to stop killing people in 2008It happened in 2005, it happened again in 2006, and now we're back here for round three: the FNL leader Agathon Rwasa has declared his intention to stop killing people, and affirmed his commitment to peace, democracy etc. while the UN and the international media look on and applaud. Strangely absent, as usual, from the media coverage of Rwasa's latest rebranding exercise, are the names of his many victims: - Pasteur Jacques Rutekereza, one of the 156 Congolese Tutsis murdered by a coalition of FNL, Mai-Mai and FDLR killers in the August 2004 Gatumba refugee camp massacre. Arthur Kabunda, Charlotte Wilson and Richard Ndereyimana, three of the 21 passengers who were massacred after the Titanic Express bus was ambushed close to Bujumbura in December 2000. The thousands of others killed in other bus ambushes around Bujumbura between 1993 and

    Morning Movie: Groundhog Day
    2008-02-01 17:00:47
It’s cold out there, it’s February 2nd, the Groundhog Day… And it’s every day. “Groundhog Day” is a comedy about weatherman Phil (Bill Murray) who goes to Punxsutawney to cover a story about a famous weather forecasting groundhog. It would have been one easy trip but unfortunately he got stuck in that day. [...]

If I had a day to live over and over again, like Bill Murray in Groundhog Day, I'd be hard pressed to pick which of the days in the past year I might want to choose. You see, I married a wonderful woman on September 16, 2006 and my life has been pretty happy since then. Like all couples we argue occasionally, but most of my life I've spent alone and now I know that I'll have someone to share it with from now on. Perhaps it would be our wedding day. I'd really love, like Bill Murray's character did in Groundhog Day, to replay that day over and over until I get it perfect for her. Our wedding day was wonderful, but there are a few things, here and there, that I'm sure happens in everyone's special days that feel like they just weren't 'perfect', you know? We didn't have a huge budget to work with at the time, and I don't really see any way we could have changed that, short of winning the lottery or something. Though I guess that's an option, with a Groundhog Day scenario. Even so, one day isn't likely to allow us much time to change our plans for the wedding drastically. Still, more funds would mean there would be a few things we could have done differently. For instance, since we were operating on a limited budget, we decided to get about 10 disposable cameras and handed them out to our guests for them to take photos during the ceremony. It worked out rather well, but obviously, those cameras are not the best and some didn't have the flash on and so plenty of photos didn't turn out. We still managed to get enough to fill a wedding album and the ones we have are pretty good, but it would have been nice to have other options, too. Our reception could have benefited from better funding, too. We had the reception at a restaurant and it was nice, but it could have been all of our friends and family at a catered reception hall of some sort. Yeah, I think I would relive my wedding day and make it that much better than it already was. Then again, maybe I'd want to relive the following day on our Honeymoon. :) Technorati Tags: Mystery Topic ChallengeYuwie.com | invite friends. hang out. get paid.

    Groundhog Day and Family Business
    2007-02-02 17:43:05
As you are probably well aware, today Punxsutawney Phil, the most famous groundhog of all time, emerged from his burrow at Gobbler’s Knob around 7:25 this morning and did not see his shadow.  The gate to Gobbler’s Knob, in case you’re interested, opened at 3am for interested parties.  Three-ay-em.  Yikes.  What kind of strange people get in line at 3am to watch a rodent look for his shadow?  Actually, I would have gone, if Punxsutawney was within an hour or two of our place.  Turns out, however, that it’s located closer to Pittsburgh than Philadelphia.  Anyway, Phil has prognosticated an early spring this year, which should make those of you who prefer shorts and hay fever to gloves and snow shovels quite happy. In a related story, a Federal investigation culminated with the arrest of four groundhogs.  Punxsutawney Paul, Punxsutawney Peter, Punxsutawney Parker and Punxsutawney Esteban were charged, under The Federal RICO statute, with conspiracy and an

Well the Sox started this trip in the worst possible fashion, no runs two hits, and they allowed Kazmir to go the entire game, leaving the bullpen with a day off. Josh Beckett was game tonight, however even if...
