Help Wanted: For the Sake of All Mother's Everywhere
    2008-06-15 17:02:50
Isn't this a great picture of my oldest and youngest sons (Kyle and Wilson)? So we are at lunch today and Kyle is restless as usual. Nothing like he used to be at 13 or 14, but he still doesn’t enjoy after meal conversation much.I joked with him a bit that he might start having a seizure or something if he was away from electronics for very long. He responded that he just didn’t like to “waste” time.I pointed out to him that had he spent more time in the past eight years building relationships and making connections, he might not be having such a hard time finding a teaching job. I suggested that his movie star friends inside the TV or big screen really weren’t able to give much back even though he had invested hours of his life in them.He has already given up hope in getting a teaching job for the fall, which I think is crazy. But he really has no connections. Thus, I would love to have someone help me prove a couple points.I would never be advocating for him if I didn

Digging Through The Prosper.com Help Wanted Section
    2008-04-12 14:25:00
Prosper does list jobs on their website, but it's PR washed and very blah. The recruiters seem to have more fun when they post Craigslist listings, and they leave some interesting crumbs in their wake. For example, Prosper's looking for a new Product Manager because marketing is taking over the website look and feel (which begs the question - who has it now?): The content of every single

Help Wanted: $14 / Hour Boozehound
    2008-04-04 01:32:52
Everyone has a dream job, whether it's stuffing envelopes in the comfort of your own bathrobe, or walking dogs for the elderly in the hopes that advancing senility will result in an inheritance accidentally willed your way.For the drinking set, the definition of a dream job is simply one whose rigors can be forgotten as soon as they've skipped off two hours early for a 'dentist appointment' that involves convening at the billiard hall happy hour. For the seasoned boozer, whose grocery bills are regularly eclipsed by liquor store hauls, scouring want ads for new employment is daunting, especially as emergency savings are pissed away buying rounds for the lady who tap dances on the bar.A Winsor, England man, posted a gig that is by any tippler's definition, a dream job, and one that, like the forklift guy in the warehouse who spins around in circles, involves drinking on the job (and not the kind of 'get paid to drink' gig that requires a CAT scan or your ability to memorize conversatio

Help Wanted - Joke of the Day
    2008-02-17 08:10:41
A local business was looking for office help. They put a sign in the window, stating the following: “HELP WANTED. Must be able to type, must be good with a computer and must be bilingual. We are an Equal Opportunity Employer.” A short time afterwards, a dog trotted up to the window, saw the sign [...]

    Help Wanted
    2007-05-14 15:08:00
The Dow recently hit an all-time high. The S&P may be next. The Wall Street pundits are saying the markets are going higher. Stocks will go up. Interest rates will go down, based on last week’s inflation report, meaning that bond prices will go higher. But wait, Alan Greenspan says there’s a 1/3 chance of a recession before the end of the year (that’s within the next seven months, folks). A recession certainly won’t be good for stocks.    What’s an investor to do? Invest for the long term. How? By finding good professional managers, i.e., mutual fund mangers, and sticking with them.  These men and women come to work every day and think about nothing except how to invest your money. (Okay, they may also think about where they’re going for lunch and their kids soccer game, but all of us think about these things at work, don’t we?)   If a doctor shouldn’t operate on hi

    Help Wanted: Hockey Columnist
    2007-05-07 19:55:00
I swear I have no idea how these guys get jobs as hockey columnists. Whining about tiny, insignificant aspects of the game and calling for endless rule changes are bad enough, but sometimes they can't even get their basic facts straight. The latest offender is Scott Burnside for ESPN.com:The Devils have significantly more questions to answer before next fall rolls around, not the least of which will be deciding what to do about the possible loss of key components -- defensive anchor Brian Rafalski and NHL playoff scoring leader Scott Gomez , both of whom are set to become unrestricted free agents July 1. Both will command top dollar on the open market and the Devils rarely, if ever, pay top dollar.Mr. Burnside, the Devils led the league this past season in total salary obligations with a total over $53 million. Patrik Elias made $7.5 million this year, one of the highest individual salaries in the entire league. Scott Gomez made $5 million. Brian Rafalski, Brian Gionta and John Ma
