From the Mailroom: Is Hester Draft-worthy?
    2007-08-11 06:34:04
Another trip to the mailroom leads us to a very interesting question from fellow blogger Anthony at insidesportsgeek.com .Anthony writes: What impact will Devin Hester bring as a WR for the Chicago Bears?Remember, if you will, that Hester burst onto the scene last year as a kick and punt returner, when he took back 5 total kicks for touchdowns. Now, the Bears coaching staff is working out Hester as a receiver. Word out of Bears camp in Wisconsin is that he's picking up the position quickly and that they are installing a small group of plays designed to get him the ball, including end arounds, reverses, and other tricky maneuvers. However, at this point, Hester is not someone to spend a draft pick on. He might be worth the consideration if you are in one of those rare leagues that awards points to individual players for return yards and TDs. But he simply won't be featured in the offense with enough frequency to make him worthy of a pick. Fantasy-wise, he'll make about as much impact ...

Dangerous Hester Getting a Shot at Offense
    2007-05-15 15:54:02
After becoming a record setter a season ago, the Chicago Bears are doing what they can to get the ball in Devin Hester’s hands more often.  The team is going to move Hester to wide out as well as running back this upcoming season.  Hester already returns kicks for the Bears, and plays cornerback. Last season Hester ran back five kicks for TD’s last season, including the opening kickoff to the Super Bowl, which the Bears eventually lost to the Indianapolis Colts.  Head coach Lovie Smith knows that the team needs to get Hester more involved in the gameplan.  “I think Devin Hester is one of the most exciting players in the NFL with his hands on the football,” Smith said to ChicagoBears.com. “I think he would be an excellent defensive back, also. We just feel that this is in the best interest of us and him for him to achieve his full potential as a football player.”       Hester does have experience playing at wide out and running back, as he d...

Devin Hester to Receive a New Role
    2007-05-15 14:00:00
The Chicago Bears finally woke up out of their hibernation to decide to use the elusive Devin Hester as a wide receiver. Hester is a threat to score every time he touches the ball, which makes his switch to offense an ideal fit. However, before fantasy owners start drooling all over their draft cheat sheets, it is important to put things into proper perspective.  Deion Sanders played some wide receiver in his career, but in his best season at wideout, he had just 36 receptions for 475 yards and one touchdown.  Dante Hall has yet to amass more than 40 receptions, 423 receiving yards, and three receiving touchdowns in a single season.  Antwaan Randle El has never had more than 47 receptions, 601 receiving yards, and three receiving touchdowns in one individual season.  Bottom line, the Bears deserve to be applauded for being willing to utilize him on the offensive side of the ball, but until Hester proves otherwise, he should be viewed as No.3 Wide receiver in fanta...
