| | Hobbies and their importance for women | | 2008-07-22 12:31:24 | | Hobbies, leisures or recreation are not pastime activities but they help us keeping our mind relaxed and it effects our health also. Peter Lichtenberg, Ph.D., director of the Institute of Gerontology at Wayne State University says:"Hobbies can engage you physically and mentally. People who have a hobby "are generally healthier. We also know they are at a lower risk for depression and dementia. The great value of hobbies is they're a way for people to stay engaged on multiple levels."So hobbies are important for all, but it is very strange fact that we don't take women's hobbies very seriously. Women are supposed to engage themselves in daily life, work and home chores. But women also need recreation in the form of hobbies or pastimes activities. I read an article at "Lifescript" which is from "Samantha Rhodes". Article is very informative but I abstracted few benefits she has mentioned in it.1- It allows a woman the chance to relieve stress and revitalize the mind and body. A Wetpaint website is built on the power of collaborative thinking. The story behind creation of this site is quite interesting:"The idea behind Wetpaint came to us when one of our friends was diagnosed with cancer. After the initial shock wore off, he did what most of us would do; he went online to learn everything he could about the disease. He found lots of facts, but not the stuff he really wanted to know—like how other people with cancer were coping. As we sat helplessly on the sidelines of our friend's dilemma, it dawned on us: why not make it easy for groups of people to share information, experiences and build social communities around anything they want?A Wetpaint website is built on the power of collaborative thinking. Here, you can create websites that mix all the best features of wikis, blogs, forums and social networks into a rich, user-generated community based around the whatever-it-is that rocks your socks. Parents, teachers all can find it useful, and it is very interactive for children as well. The site describes the benefits of hobbies as:"Stress seems to be a predominant ingredient of human existence. No matter how old a person is, one is forever chasing goals. Sad, but true, even kindergarten kids are under pressure to excel in their class. They are burdened with more to learn. And as a child grows academically competition increases, which causes even more stress. Amongst adolescents there is a need to work and study at the same time in order to get that plum job after university. Adults are busy making a living. And in this rat race called life, one just forgets themselves.Hobby is any leisure activity that diverts an individual from their daily strenuous like. | | Impact of internet on hobbyists and hobbies | | 2008-04-28 08:21:25 | | Internet has changed our lives. We are busier with our computer than being with our family and friends. Our social life is limited to social networking sites. Average person, who normally spends 2 to 3 hours or more at internet, likes to be online, even to watch TV or reading newspaper. Do hobbyists have the same story?Yes, internet has an impact on people’s hobbies and hobbyist. To my opinion, you get useful information within seconds from internet and same way you can buy your hobby products with a click of your mouse. "Pew Internet Project" collected stories about how the internet had an impact on people's hobbies. Here are some examples: "Because of the internet, we've been able to turn a hobby of collecting antiques into a business of buying and selling antiques." "I was searching for some information about my grandfather and his company in World War II, and Googled his name. | | The role of hobbies in our lives | | 2008-04-24 20:20:28 | | Are hobbies a child play? or merely a pass time, which we forget when we are busy with our business/career or other important chores? Hobbies play an important role in our lives. Often we adopts a hobby to pass our spare time and get pleasure. When we are busy doing our favourite job or chore, it gives peace to our mind and relaxing our mind effects our health. Hobbies are a way to keep us busy, in a condition of happiness and job. Because hobbies are the tasks, we do for self satisfaction. I am a blogger and enjoy doing it, so the task of sitting in front of computer for hours may be boring for someone else, gives me joy and satisfaction. Another factor is that when you are busy doing your favourite job (hobby), you can save yourself from depression and anxiety, which are the gifts of modern age. I have realized it that I am more energetic, creative and healthy when I keep myself busy with my favourite hobby/hobbies. More than 100 pool players, including foreigners, are expected to join the Manny Pacquiao International 9-Ball Open. The much-awaited tournament has also been billed as a good practice round before the November 2007 World Pool Championships, which will be held at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City. Believe you me, Manny IS good in billiards too! And Ii kid you not! The Pacman tries to hold pool tournaments right after his boxing wins as a way to promote the billiards industry and billiards players. In December 2006, Manny Pacquiao-sponsored the Panersera-Pababa 10-ball competition, which was held at the Rack-and-Roll billiards hall. Pacquiao also promoted the Manny Pacquiao 10-ball Open in General Santos in February 2007."It's total control of the white with The AnitoKid."*Did you enjoy the post?
