    Home made deep hair conditioner!
    2008-04-21 20:07:00
Ok, so as I promised I will be posting my personal, tried and tested home made recipes with ingredients you can easily find in your kitchen. Not to mention you save money and getting spectacular results, minus the harsh chemicals. Most of these recipes need to be refrigerated since they don't contain preservatives (-shelf life is approximately 1 week).Today I'm going to post about a "Avocado & Mayo deep conditioner" which will leave your hair soft and shiny.Avocados contain vitamin B6 & vitamin E, and mayonaisse is loaded with Vitamin K.As you know Vitamin E is vital for moisturizing and restoring dry or overprocessed hair. It's recommended to use a deep hair conditioner at least 2 times a month.Ingredients:plain mayonnaise1/2 an avocadoInstructions:Put together the mayonaise and avocado in a bowl and squish them together with your hands other utensil till the whole mixture looks minty green.Smooth it all over your hair- all the way to the tips. Home made acne mask
    2008-04-21 14:44:00
Ok so first of all, I want to say that toothpaste does NOT help clear up acne. Don't even bother in my opinion. Most home remedies and tips will prevent future pimples from forming which is also great of course. But if you want to try and clear up existing acne and dry up existing blemishes, for oily skin try an egg white mask. It's also extremely cheap and who doesn't love that right? (costs about $0.25-$1.00). Use it as an extra along with any other acne regimen you are using. Crack an egg and seperate the yolk and the white... Then beat the egg wite. Use a cotton pad to dip into the egg and apply generously to face or any area. Leave on for 15-20 minutes. Your face will feel tight while the mask is on. Wash it off and your skin will immediately feel soft and rejuvenated. The mixture should stay good for 2-3 days.Like I said in another post, don't use this every day! Your skin does get immune to it and you don't want that happening until your acne clears up.The only con of this mask i

Colorful Spring Salad with Cranberries and Home-Made Bleu Cheese Dressing
    2008-03-27 18:14:02
Remember those evenings when you have had a rough day at work, end up coming late at home, and have nothing to cook except some cheese and a bag of salad greens gawking at you from your fridge!! believe it or not, I have had more than my share of such evenings, especially when it gets really late and I am determined to go to gym that day at any cost. For days like these, salads can act as a welcome retreat. And yet, using the same store-bought salad dressing every time can get kind of boring.... Please Click the Title for the Full Post

Ever tried making your own mattress pad with things you already have at your disposal? It could be as simple as putting layers of fleece on your bed (about three would be great) or sewing a new home made mattress pad of your own. Flannel sheets or cotton fabric make good mattress pads because these materials [...]

    Body Oil Home Made
    2007-12-17 10:29:00
Body Oil2 ounces dried herbs1 pint vegetable oilChop herbs very fine, place in a container and pour in just enough vegetable oil to cover. (Use more or less oil as needed.) Stir to release trapped air bubbles. (Avoid using powdered herbs; they absorb oil like a sponge and clog the strainer. If powdered herbs are all you have, stir the powder every day to keep it from clumping together.) Heat herbs and oil for about 5 hours at about 80°F. You can use a double boiler on the stove top, or an oven, electric turkey cooker or slow cooker set on the lowest temperature. (If the setting on your appliance is not low enough, turn it on and off and monitor the temperature.) Or you can put the herb-oil mixture outside on a hot day; the temperature of the oil in the jar will be about 10 degrees cooler than the surrounding air. This will take 2 to 3 days, unless the air temperature is in the 90s. When done, strain out the herbs with a fine kitchen strainer, pressing out the oil with the back of a sp

    Some Home Made Dairy Recipes
    2007-10-12 19:13:26
photo courtesy of geek philosopherI love buying cooking magazines, I try to buy one every fortnight during our main grocery shop. This time I bought one called Donna Hay Magazine, I had never bought this one before and it was really good. I found a bunch of LC suitable recipes and shared some of them hereBut what was even better was the home made dairy recipes inside which looked very simple. There's ricotta cheese, curd cheese, clotted cream and yoghurt. With Maya being sensitive to the proteins in regular cows milk I have to give her A2 milk. I have yet to come across any cheese or yoghurt's (which she loves) that are made with this milk so I thought some of these recipes would come in handy.Anyway I thought you guys might like them too :)Keep in mind that the cup measures are metric cup measures so use the other measure in brackets if you don't use metric and metric tablespoon are 20ml where as US tablespoons are 14 ml which is about half an ounce, measurements and conversions.RicottaMakes 1¼ cups or 10 oz1.5 litres of full cream milk (48 fl oz)2 TBL white vinegarcandy thermometerfine muslinPour milk into saucepan with thermometer and heat to 80°C (176°F). Remove from heat, add vinegar and set aside for 5 minutes to curdle.Sit colander over a deep bowl and then line colander with the muslin. Using a slotted spoon, gently spoon the curds into the colander and leave to drain for 5 minutes. Need to be gentle with the curds so they don't go dry and grainy.Next just gently spoon into a class or ceramic dish and cover loosely with cling wrap. Can store in fridge for up to a week.Curd CheeseMakes 400g or 14 oz¼ cup (2 fl oz) water1 tsp liquid rennet2 litres (64 fl oz) full cream milktable saltcandy thermometerfine muslinBring water to boil and then cool completely. Stir in rennet and set aside.Pour milk into saucepan and with candy thermometer heat to 32°C (90°F). Remove from heat, add water/rennet mixture and gently combine for 5-8 mins until curds form.Place

Home made sandwich at Zuivere Koffie
    2007-08-25 18:15:35
Hidden about half the Utrechtsestraat is this place called Zuivere Koffie. I read about this place as a recommendation and it took us a little bit of searching before we found it. Zuivere Koffie is quite a cosy place, so be prepared to be close to your neighbors and to fold yourself a bit at [...]

    Home-made after-shave lotion
    2007-07-01 06:55:00
If you find waxing your arms and legs painful and messy, you can consider shaving. Shaving is one of the quickest and easiest methods of hair-removal, with the added advantage of getting the top layer of the skin mildly exfoliated. Exfoliation is one of the ways that rids the skin of dead cells and keeps it fresh and glowing. Unlike waxing, one doesn’t have to wait for hair to grow to a certain

    Home made wind turbine
    2007-06-25 04:00:34
This is a great article with lots of pointers to other sites giving some good details on building your own wind turbine. Its geared around power for a small camper or other "in the field" situation, but I bet many of the ideas could be adapted for on-board use.And it's going to be much cheaper than commercial solutions if you are handy and can whip one up from eBay and lumberyard parts.

    Home Made CNC Machine
    2007-06-21 13:18:13
Our Danish friends David Pedersen and the guys from AC/KW got together and built a CNC machine from scratch. There are lots of videos and pictures of the build on the site. Have a look at the 3D Hacked Gadgets logo, this machine does a great job! “The CNC mill has been built from scratch. We’ve even made our own controller board to drive the stepper motors that power the axis of the CNC mill. What makes the CNC mill tick? It’s the controller board. I don’t want to go into details on how the CNC controller board has been designed. This is just a quick overview of the project, and a more detailed description of each subsystem will be written some day. The board is based around a central PIC controller, the PIC18f2220. An optocoupler bridge isolate the parallel port cable from a PC from the rest of the board. You cannot see this bridge on the picture below as it is SMD mounted on the back site of the board. 3 arrays of FET transistors are used to provide motor
