| Singapore steals a march on Hong Kong | | 2008-06-10 06:55:00 | | By Sundeep Tucker in Hong Kong Hong Kong has been overtaken by Singapore in a new ranking of global commerce, the latest sign that its arch-rival is stealing a march in the battle to be Asia ’s leading international financial centre. The report on the top 75 worldwide centres of commerce, commissioned by MasterCard, shows Hong Kong slipping from 5th last year to 6th, while Singapore jumped two places to 4th. The city-state narrowly failed to take 3rd position from Tokyo, which owes its lofty position to its enormous domestic financial market. London and New York took first and second place. The index combines seven measures of commercial power. While Hong Kong retained its ranking as the world’s No.1 business centre, it trailed Singapore as a financial hub and in other areas including economic stability, legal and political framework and liveability. The figures show that Singapore pulled away from Hong Kong last year when it came to the ease of doing business, a measure which encompa | | By: Nerdy Eddy | | |

| Budget Airline Oasis Hong Kong in liquidation | | 2008-04-09 22:22:00 | | Hong Kong budget airline Oasis abruptly stopped flying Wednesday, leaving passengers stranded in Hong Kong, London and Vancouver. Passengers who have been caught out have been forced to make their own arrangements home. What a hassle that would be. They have been given phone numbers of other airlines to arrange return flights.Oasis Hong Kong at GatwickI took an Oasis flight last year from London to Hong Kong. It was their price that got me to fly with them. It seems now though that the long haul low cost airline concept might be doomed with spiralling fuel prices. Jet fuel prices nearly doubled in the 18 months that Oasis was operating. Such increases are proving difficult enough for established airlines, let alone newly started airlines.

It will be the biggest and longest in Asia. Full length of 29 kilometre or about 18 miles. The giant bridge would connect the west side of Hong Kong with Macau and the neighbouring city of Zhuhai, situated on the west side of the Pearl River Delta, and part of mainland China's southern industrial powerhouse. This giant bridge is expected to cost US $2 billion to $3.7 billion. With its length, it would probably become one of the landmarks in Asia; it is comparable with the world's longest bridge, the Second Lake Pontchartrain Causeway in the United States, which is 38.4 kilometers long.If you like this post, you might also interested on:-Gordon Wu

The territory lies on the eastern side of the Pearl River Delta, bordering Guangdong province in the north and facing the South China Sea in the east, west and south. Beginning as a trading port in the 19th century, Hong Kong has developed into a leading financial centre.Hong Kong was a crown colony of the United Kingdom from 1842 until the transfer of its sovereignty to the People's Republic of China in 1997. | Hong Kong first for Thai developers | | 2007-10-04 05:58:00 | | The key reason for why Hong Kong buyers are in the market and will continue to be the dominant force is simply the proximity and connectivity value offered here,” said Nick Anthony, managing director of Indigo Real Estate. “Phuket is the main destination for alternative second homes and for those considering second homes with the potential to become primary residences. It’s also a momentum-driven market. Someone will buy a house and then tell 20 friends to also buy.

| Hong Kong Style Noodles | | 2007-09-02 19:00:00 | | Along our way to SM Megamall from the Podium going through St. Francis Square in Ortigas, you will pass by this stall that is called Hong Kong Style Noodles. This stall was jampacked with locals and feasting on their very affordable stir fried noodles topped with either pork or beef siomai and a choice of soy, teriyaki, chili, sweet and sour and peanut sauces. This is a good way to fill your tummy in between meals. Price is really cheap. Accompanied with black gulaman at P9.00 is indeed satisfying and really affordable. | Double Decker Tramway in Hong Kong | | 2007-08-05 14:27:25 | |
Taking the tram is one the most fun ways to get around in Hong Kong. The Hong Kong Tramways is the only tram system in world to run exclusively double decker trams. The tram runs now aver 100 years and is an other must do while being in Hong Kong.
The fare is really cheap HK$2. You can not ride it for free within the 3 Day Free MTR rides of the Airport Express Deal, so have exact change or used credits you might have added on your Octopus Card. You pay at the front when you exit the train.
There was a station right next our Hotel which takes you all the way to Central Station.
View from the upper deck.

| Take the Hong Kong Star Ferry | | 2007-08-04 12:22:50 | | Before I write about the Hong Kong Star Ferry … you should read "The World of Suzie Wong" before you travel to Hong Kong:
Robert Lomax tired of working in an office, wants to be an artist. So he moves to Hong Kong to try his hand at painting. Finding a cheap hotel he checks in, only to find it’s used by prostitutes and their ’dates’ who meet in the bar downstairs. Since he never picks up any of ladies, they all want to know more about him. Eventually he does hire one to model for him, but soon falls in love. But, since he’s on a limited budget, he can’t afford her exclusively, and doesn’t want to ’share’ her.
to put you in the right Hong Kong mood … if you are staying in the Wan Chai area you will be recognizing tons of things form the book and the Star Ferry going from Kowloon to Hong Kong Island will appear in the book as well.

So you finally made to the Airport in Hong Kong? What’s now? Well at first lay your eye on the awesome architecture of the airport:
Or you could check your emails ( since they offer free wifi Airport wide) or go straight to the airport spa.
But in case you are eager to get into the city, you can either chose from Taxis, Busses or the awesome Airport Express Train which takes you from the airport to Hong Kong Central in only 24 minutes and once you get there look out for the free Shuttle Busses to most major hotels.
We got ourself the Hong Kong MTR Octopus Card:
If you buy the Card online which you can do here (this site only works on IE) you pay HK$285 which is about 36 US Dollar.
If you don’t buy the card online .. no worries there is a stand right when you come out from customs there the card will be HK$15 more expensive.
You will get 2 rides on the Airport Express within 30 days (not sure about in what time | | By: Random Good Stuff | | |

I feel like puking …
When you read this I will be at the Airport with Mike to catch our flight to Hong Kong. This is Mike’s surprise birthday present. That means even though his Bday was on June 29th he had to wait until today at the airport to find out what it is.
Not sure if he will like it and how he will react. He probably will puke right in front of the check in when he finds out and thinks about how much the trip will cost us. But again this is his 30ies and I am pretty sure that he will never forget this present ever for the rest of his live.
This is going to be our greatest vacation ever but there will be a chance that it could be our last as well. I am nervous.
Have you been to these places? Do you have great tips on restaurants, bars, clubs or sightseeing? Please post a comment to let me know.

| Hong Kong, Bali and Noosa Heads the Best Places in the Asia-Pacific | | 2007-05-14 06:04:00 | | What makes the best place in the Asia-Pacific? An ongoing survey sponsored by Asian business Web site, the Asia Pacific Management Forum, is attempting to define the meaning of the “Best Place” while providing a leader board of top nominations.
There are some surprises. Hong Kong is well supported, as is Bali, but other lesser known places such as Daylesford, Cairns and Noosa Heads in Australia, Luang Prabang in Laos and Hangzhou, China also have their fans.
Some categories have run-away leaders. The Oriental in Bangkok for example leads by a long way in the Best Hotel category and the Best Bar title is currently held by a similar good lead by the Hard Rock Cafe in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia. Other categories feature neck and neck struggles for the lead with the two new glamour airports of the region, Chek Lap Kok in Hong Kong, and Kuala Lumpur International changing leader positions several times.

View From Victoria Peak

Tourists atop the Peak Tower
Peak Tram
View of the South China Sea from Victoria Peak
1. Victoria Peak and the Peak Tram. Victoria Peak, or The Peak as it is know to locals is the tallest mountain in Hong Kong at 552m. The highest part of The Peak is used for telecommunications and is closed to the public. The peak is best accessed via the Peak Tram which runs from the Central District to the Peak Galleria via the mid-levels. The peak tram is the second best bargain you will get in Hong Kong after the Star Ferry. The peak Galleria is a garish wok-shaped building atop the peak that offers great views of the city from the roof, but my advice is to grab a refreshing ice-cream and leave the building for a soothing along the Peak Circuit which offers amazing views of the city on the northern side, and of the South China Sea on the southern side.
