| G-Power builds twin-supercharged M6 Hurricane drop-top | | 2008-06-11 06:45:00 | | We were highly impressed with G-Power's M5 Hurricane. After all, it's twin-supercharged V10 produced nearly 50% more power than stock and it had a top speed of 211 mph, which G-Power claims to be faster than any other street legal Bimmer. With the BMW M6 packing the same 5.0-liter V10, it was only a matter of time before it received the same treatment. Behold the G-Power M6 Hurricane! While the twin blowers are set for lower boost, only 6 psi compared to the M5's 10 psi, the M6 still produces a healthy 635 bhp @ 7300 rpm and 469 lb-ft torque @ 6300 rpm. This is good for a 4.5 second sprint to 60 mph and a top speed of nearly 200 mph. Not one to forget that appearance matters, G-Power also provides a new front and rear fascia, rocker panels, and carbon fiber rear diffuser along with 21-inch wheels that make room for a 15-inch brake system up front. M6 owners can drop off their car at G-Power's German headquarters or can order a fully assembled car starting at a mere 183,000 Euros. Full | | By: Car News | | |

| Near Hurricane Force Winds Today | | 2008-06-04 22:28:34 | | WEDNESDAY, JUNE 4Don’t forget to check my Thursday Thirteen. I did a history of political TV commercials. Today the wind is sustained at 45MPH. We are having near hurricane force gusts of at least 65MPH. My Durango is rocking back and forth in the driveway. There are indications we’re getting a fire in Mescalero. There’s also a nasty one in Artesia. The worst part of this is the deadly weather that is spawned here and turns into tornados farther east. Did I mention we did not go to Las Cruces yesterday? The appointment was changed until today. ... | | By: The Pink Flamingo | | |

| Hurricane season is here | | 2008-06-02 09:58:36 | | One of the reasons many relocating Floridians are drawn to our area is the close proximity to the coast. Dothan is located around a hundred miles for Panama City Beach. | News: Tough hurricane season coming up. | | 2008-05-24 04:15:16 | | According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the approaching 2008 Atlantic hurricane season is likely to be above normal, with 16 named storms and up to five major hurricanes.NOAA attributed the above-average outlook to the lingering affects of La Nina. The agency has urged residents of hurricane-prone areas to be prepared for the season, which begins on June 1 and will run until 30 November. (Full)Atlantic-born hurricanes threaten the Caribbean, Central America, Southern US and Northern Latin America every year. In 2007, there were 17 named storms, of which hurricanes Dean, Felix and Noel, and tropical storm Olga wrecked the most havoc.Picture courtesy ThinkQuest NYC

| Virginia Preps for Hurricane Supplies Tax Holiday | | 2008-05-11 23:00:00 | | Prepared for the "Hurricane Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday" in Virginia? From May 25 to May 31 only, sales tax will be waived on various hurricane preparedness equipment, and the Virginia Tax Commissioner has issued a 5,000-word advisory notice detailing every aspect of how retailers should do such sales during the holiday. (Title of the press release: "Prepare for the Hurricane Season by Shopping for Tax-Exempt Generators, Supplies," just under "Tax Relief Granted for Victims of Tornadoes!").Advising people to prepare for hurricanes and gather necessary supplies is a good thing. But there's probably a better way to do it than the administrative mess associated with blanket temporary tax holidays. Will a poor family that couldn't afford an emergency generator now rush to buy one (within the allotted time period and after reviewing the list of eligible items)? Or will this tax holiday simply shift the purchases already being made, while enabling officials t | | By: Tax Policy Blog | | |

| "Hurricane" | | 2008-03-05 13:53:00 | | I like to read. When I have nothing else to do, I usually look for a book to give me some entertainment. I went to a book sale a few days ago to look for a new novel. But a hard bound book caught my eye. It was a book entitled Hurricane. Now, I know about a famous boxer nicknamed Hurricane, and so I decided to examine the book. To my surprise it was about the boxer that the book reminded me of. It was a biography of Rubin "hurricane" Carter, a top middle weight contender in the sixties who was imprisoned after being accused of a crime he did not commit.I have been reading the book and I'm glad to say that I enjoyed it. It was inspiring to read about a man fighting to be free from a punishment that he did not deserve. Carter never gave up and fought for his freedom. I decided to look for videos on his fights to see him in action. The book described him as a scary, intimidating fighter with a vicious left hook. Luckily, I was able to find some videos of Rubin Carter in action. I was glad | | By: Pinoy Boxing | | |

| [Wikipedia] February 15: Hurricane Isis (1998) | | 2008-02-15 08:27:04 | | Hurricane Isis was the deadliest tropical cyclone and only hurricane to make landfall during the 1998 Pacific hurricane season. The ninth tropical storm and sixth hurricane of the season, Isis developed on September 1 from the interaction between a tropical wave and a large surface circulation to the southwest of Mexico. It moved northward, striking the extreme southeastern portion of the Baja California Peninsula before attaining hurricane status in the Gulf of California. Isis made landfall at Topolobampo in the state of Sinaloa on September 3, and quickly lost its low-level circulation. The remnants persisted for several days before dissipating in the U.S. state of Idaho. In Mexico, Isis destroyed over 700 houses and killed 14 people, primarily due to its heavy rainfall which peaked at over 20 inches (500 mm) in southern Baja California Sur. The rainfall caused widespread damage to roads and railways, stranding thousands of people. Moisture from the remnants of I | | By: Gopal's Blog | | |

| As 2007 Atlantic Hurricane Season Ends, Questions Remain | | 2007-11-30 04:04:00 | | As the 2007 Atlantic hurricane season officially comes to a close on November 30, NOAA scientists are carefully reviewing a set of dynamic weather patterns that yielded lower-than-expected hurricane activity across the Atlantic Basin. As a result, the United States was largely spared from significant landfalling storms. However, several noteworthy events took place, including two back-to-back Category 5 hurricanes hitting Central America and the rapid near-shore intensification of the single U.S. landfalling hurricane. As a whole, the 2007 Atlantic hurricane season produced a total of 14 named storms, including six hurricanes, two of which became major hurricanes. NOAA's August update to the seasonal forecast predicted 13 to 16 named storms - of which seven to nine would be hurricanes, including three to five major hurricanes of Category 3 strength or higher. An average season has 11 named storms, with six becoming hurricanes, including two major hurricanes."The 2007 Atlantic hurrican | | By: Brand Mantra | | |

| The Hurricane, and the Man the Authorities Came to Blame | | 2007-10-15 09:34:00 | | Carny folk like the guy pictured here (from whom we feel no need whatsoever to dissociate ourselves, as anyone who goes to work with white knee-length socks and a personal fan is unlikely to consult legal advice on matters relating to libel) like firemen, police officers, bus drivers and rodeo clowns, are placed in positions of trust, and are counted upon daily to take good care to properly bolt down the Vomit Coasters and tilt-a-whirls of this world (keen-eyed readers will note an unprecedented, back to back referencing of tilt-a-whirls, in our estimation, a blogosphere first). While we appreciate that the repeated exposure to objects going around and around in circles represents a rather obvious metaphor for the cards you've been dealt by the great blackjack dealer in the sky (an allegory Pat Sajak would flatly deny), that's no reason whatsoever to be asked to 'step, right up, don't be shy' to a Breathalyzer like the operator of a 'the Hurricane' ride was at a South Carolina c | | By: The Shark Guys | | |

Ebola outbreak in DRC, flooding in Ghana and Uganda, earthquakes in Colombia and Indonesia,... Most of these have an immediate and direct effect on the work we do, either in aid food dispatches or in the allocation of logistics support staff. One example is Hurricane Felix. Even though the hurricane occurred early September, and has long gone from the news headlines, people in Nicaragua are still dealing with the aftermath of the disaster.Pictures courtesy Mirjana Kavelj (WFP)

| Hawaii Back to normal as hurricane Flossie becomes tropical storm | | 2007-08-18 00:22:00 | | It is business as usual throughout the Hawaiian Islands as Hurricane Flossie passed by Hawaii’s Big Island leaving nothing more than gusty winds, rain, and high surf in its tracks. The more northerly islands of Maui, Molokai, Lanai, Oahu and Kauai were largely unaffected. The National Weather Service cancelled the hurricane watch for Hawaii’s Big Island and downgraded Flossie to a tropical storm as the system passed by the island’s south shore on its westerly path away from the state.

| Hurricane Cullen part deux | | 2007-07-17 22:26:15 | | After much speculation, TSN reports that the New York Rangers have finally traded forward Matt Cullen back to the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday.
“I think it’ll be just like jumping right back in, picking up where I left off,” the veteran centre told The Canadian Press on Tuesday after rejoining the Carolina Hurricanes in a trade from the New York Rangers.
In exchange, the Rangers will receive defenseman Andrew Hutchinson, forward Joe Barnes and a third-round pick in next year’s NHL entry draft.
“[Hutchinson is] not a player that I was excited about letting go,” said Rutherford. “He serves a good purpose for us. But at the same time, he doesn’t play in our top six defence, so with the addition of (Dennis) Seidenberg and as long as we stay healthy, it made him expendable.”
Cullen found himself on the trade block after the Rangers signed forwards Scott Gomez and Chris Drury on the first day of free agency. And that’s when Hu | | By: Rumor Me This | | |

| Hurricane John | | 2006-09-02 17:05:00 | | John came and went with minimal effects here. It started with heavy winds and a torrential downpour about 9:30 pm Thursday (Aug. 31). That lasted about an hour and the streets and canals flooded extremely quickly. We were at the Purple Onion when it started and 15 minutes into it, decided to head home. Good thing we did, because even then, we ran into water above the wheel wells of the truck in several places. After a couple of minor detours, the USS Ford got us home. Luckily, that seems to have been the worst of it. We are still having bands of rain, albeit nothing major, even through this morning. Suprisingly enough though, we never lost electricity. In my limited experience thus far in Mazatlan I had come up with this calculation ; 30 minutes of thunderstorm activity is equal to 4 hours of power outage. Not so this time around!I went out yesterday and took some pictures from the Malecon of the waves. They were not large, but very rough! | | By: Que Pasa? | | |
