| Oh Idaho! | | 2008-07-19 02:10:15 | | Many people have the wrong idea about people who chose to make their home in Northern Idaho.Narrow-minded gun-toting zealots; chlorinated gene pool Deliverance extras; bouffant-haired, spike-pant, turbo-blonds with hyphenated first names like Lulu-Bell or Bobbi-Sue; and jug-eared, barefoot, tow-headed kids who need to take Ritalin just to speed up.Most people don't believe it's like that anymore.Fortunately, as election after election demonstrates, most people are wrong.Northern Idaho remains today the bastion of Real Men. A place where a man is still judged by the firmness of his handshake, the value of his word, and his artistic display of car parts in the front yard. It's a place where a belch is still a compliment to the cook, bless her heart; and where a good personal-area scratch can do more for your self-esteem than a month of sessions with Doctor Phil. But before you start thinking that the Idaho men are some kind of Neolithic throw-backs to the days of the patriarchal subjugatio | | By: It\'s a Funny Thing... | | |

| | Web Grades: Idaho Senate | | 2008-07-09 12:55:14 | | Today, we examined campaign websites from the Idaho Senate race pitting Republican Lieutenant Governor Jim Risch against former Democratic Congressman Larry LaRocco. Remember that with these web grades we are not reviewing the candidates or their political positions, but rather their web outreach. Let us know what you think. How would you have graded them? And don't forget to check out our previous web grades as well.Jim Risch (risch4idaho.com)One of the annoying splash pages greets visitors, but that is easily bypassed. The main page has a relatively modern and professional look with a pleasant color scheme, though it seems like they could have included a little more here. There is a video greeting from the candidate (it plays every time you click back to the home page) is oddly cropped and should be set to play only once. Risch's biography includes three photos, but is really pretty standard. Users will find the issues section a big disappointment. The candidate touches on jus | | By: Political Realm | | |

| Idaho Don and the Lost Crusader Temple Skull Meme: The End! | | 2008-07-06 11:00:50 | | Our story so far: (Ohhh sooo far!) In pursuit of the origin of the 123 Meme, the Lewis and LOBO Expedition has plowed, disked, and harrowed their way through 35 blogs, leaving a trail of overturned topsoil and empty beer bottles in its wake.Identifying themselves as Chelle B at each of the blogs they plundered, our heroes, utilizing survival instincts normally associated with higher level organisms such as lichen, have managed to divert any potential retribution to someone who actually seems to enjoy being offended. After surviving the incredibly tedious 123 meme rapids, which would have stripped the readership of many a better humor blogger, ( Brent Diggs) Idaho Don and LOBO have arrived safely at a peaceful and calm lake. Or have they???As our story continues, LOBO reveals a terrifying truth:"...It's the Cat People!!""Cat People...Sure. Pass me up a beer...Thanks...Cat People, huh? You know LOBO, I've been facing forward for most of this trip. Exactly how many beers have you drank?" | | By: It\'s a Funny Thing... | | |

| Idaho Death Daisies | | 2008-06-25 10:51:30 | | Yesterday morning spring finally came to Northern Idaho. I'm not expecting it to last very long. In point of fact, I'm hoping that it'll be gone by dinner. After today, I'd just as soon skip spring and summer and head right back into winter.Due to an excess of regional cooling, winter held on until the longest day of the year. But spring sprung this morning loudly and Patrice and I were finally able to go out on one of those early-morning nature walks that used to make me glad I lived here on the edge of the wild.Patrice is a naturalist by temperament and education and she delights in the challenge of figuring out the name of practically every plant that she sees. She makes her plant identification by consulting the "Native and Medicinal Plants of Northern Idaho" identification book. "Oh look! It's rediginous dorcus, or "Northwest Common Spotteddogwort". Or something like that. I don't actually pay a lot of attention to what she says on these walks. After 17 years of marriage, it's | | By: It\'s a Funny Thing... | | |

Maybe. As the days continue to get closer to the general election, the movement continues to get stronger. This is just another showing into how this country really wants a revolutionary change and not just " talk " of change. This primary is a very important one, the numbers clearly show that the Ron Paul supporters out voted Barack's & Hillary's by a good margin.Keep in mind, Ron Paul's campaign is strictly a grassroots movement. | | Bad Days For Idaho Intolerance | | 2008-05-19 10:16:12 | | Many people across the United States, when they bother to think of northern Idaho at all, think of it as a haven for racially intolerant single eye-brow types skulking in gated and walled compounds, guarded by mentally deficient failed pizza delivery boys in brown shirts with collars tight enough to fold the fat of their triple chins up over their little square mustachesAll of that used to be true of course, but sadly, the glory days of Northern Idaho as the un-recombinant DNA capitol of the US was always over-exaggerated and ended in 2004 with the death of the 86 year old Aryan Nation Leader, Richard Girnt Butler. (Isn't that exactly the kind of name you'd expect?)You might not remember, and honestly - why would you, but just weeks before his untimely death (About 80 years too late) Uberdorken StrudelFuhrer Butler lead his ravening horde of 40 or so goose stepping Pillsbury dough boys on a white Unity parade down the streets of Coeur D'Alene, Idaho.Even though he was surrounded by mor | | By: It\'s a Funny Thing... | | |

| | Our Big Trip Part 4- Whistler, Glacier National Park, Idaho and Wyoming | | 2007-01-17 18:38:08 | | You can read the background about Our Big Trip here.
Day 22-Sunday, July 6:
We started out by riding the gondola up to the top of Whistler.
There was still plenty of snow, and many skiers and snowboarders were there to take part in their summertime(?) recreation. I was feeling much better and it was nice to see something besides the inside of a hotel room at Whistler. I did get a little bummed out watching all the mountain bikers zooming down the slopes as I had hoped to. But we enjoyed the scenery and I got sunburned. We then picked up Plato, who seemed perfectly content with where she was and a little put out by having to leave with us. After Plato decided she would grace us with her presence, we headed over the border back into Washington. We camped for the night at Birch Bay State Park, where we took in yet another stunning sunset.
