Installing IBM RPM in Microsoft Windows Vista
    2008-06-26 03:20:00
The IBM RPM 7.1.1 documentation stated that you can install and use IBM RPM client in Microsoft Windows Vista. Is that really true? Yes and No.No in the sense that the installation is not one step process. Some additional steps are needed to ensure all the necessary components are properly configured. Yes because I tried and the program seems working after the installation. Of course, maybe there will be some bugs I haven't discover yet. I will briefly describe the steps you need to perform. There are 2 components (RPMBrokers.dll, RPMImpex.dll) to be registered for RPM Rich Client to work and 3 components (RPMBrokers.dll, RPMImpex.dll, RPMPlgin.ocx) for RPM Plugin. Ok, the ONLY REAL installation in Vista is just the ActiveX component registration is troublesome. If you try to register these components manually after the RPM installation, most probably you will hit by a 0x80004005 error. Note: The below are the steps I conducted to make the thing works, however I'm not sure whether some

First, I am going to explainhow to use, as well as the benefits of using, TGT Soft’s Style XP to use new visual styles. Then, I am going to show you how to use patcher XP as well as the benefits of using it. Butfirst, I am going to show you where to download visual styles that can be used on yourcomputer.Downloading visual stylesMany cool sites on the Web offer thousands of visual styles to download. Unlike boot and logon screens, you do not need to worry about the version of a visual style because they are not system-critical files and their format does not change when service packs are released. This capability makes downloading them even easier, because you don’t have to worry about screw- ing up your computer.Check out the following list of my favorite sites from which to download visual styles. Get a Handle on Installing Cabinet Hardware
    2008-05-24 16:28:08
Now that you’ve picked out the hardware of your dreams, you need only to install them to finish the look of your cabinets. If you’ve never installed hardware before, you might be intimidated by the idea of using a level or marking off the correct spots for placement; you might be particularly intimidated by the thought of using the dreaded drill. Take a breath before you begin and don’t worry about the task ahead. The entire process is easy and fairly quick. Make sure to have the following tools on hand as you start. This will ensure a smooth process and will diminish the chance of a mishap.1. Drill (most commonly a 3/16” drill bit)2. Level3. Marker4. Masking tape5. Nail or center punch (to make an indentation for where to start the drilling)6. Screwdriver (Phillips or flathead depending on your specific hardware)Knobs or handlesWhether you are installing knobs or handles, you should first try to choose a piece that has the same drill center(s) as the existing hardware. If you

Installing, Configuring and Testing MySQL Database Server on ‘localhost’
    2008-05-12 02:18:42
Here we go with another installation and configuration post for out local server; this time for MySQL, the well known and widely popular free database server. [You may want to read Installing Web Server on your PC, Installing Apache and PHP on your PC and Configuring Apache Web Server and PHP] In this post, we’ll learn to set-up MySQL server on our own local server and see how we can connect to it from our scripts. Since the last few posts we have been having problems implementing data storage/retrieval from files, we thought it was the right time to start using database for that purpose. However before we can use database connectivity from our scripts, we need to install a database server, we’ve chosen My SQL. In spite of MySQL database server being free, it has proven itself time and again as the best database server around. Its free too so there is no point in us looking for anything else. OK, let’s start by first downloading t

Installing Web Server on your PC
    2008-04-20 01:21:35
Why install web server on your own PC? Running C++ programs or finding error (syntax) is as easy as clicking on the Compile button but that is not the case with PHP. You have to first upload the script file to the server to run it or to find any errors. As with anybody, peoples make lots of syntax mistakes in the beginning when they learn a new language. So sending back and forth scripts from your PC to the server every time you forget a ‘;’ here or a ‘,’ there via FTP is not something many would like to do. If you have a server set-up on your own PC then it’s as simple as copy and paste, there would be no need of FTP or anything of that sort. Write the script, put it in the special folder (created by the web server) and there you are. This is by far the main reason that makes people install web servers on their home PC. What does installing a web server do? Nothing, in the sense that your PC runs the way it used to. It insta

Installing British smart meters could get pricey, like £20bn pricey
    2008-03-28 17:35:51
While smart meters will provide a lot of benefits to pretty much everyone who uses electricity - whether they charge an electric car at night or not - the cost of swapping out everyone's current meter with one that communicates with the grid won't be cheap. In the U.S., California is taking the lead on installing smart meters. Over in the UK, energy companies and the government are taking a look at the potential installation costs and have found that this won't be a cheap process. While the energy companies have said they expect it to cost £5bn, the Guardian is reporting that government estimates place the number closer to somewhere between £10bn and £20bn. Yikes (I'm not sure exactly how much that is in U.S. dollars, thanks to the billion/trillion issue, but it's a lot). Who will get to pay this cost? Why, the customers, of course. The installation will likely start in 2010 and be finished by 2020.[Source: Guardian via Smart Electric Newsletter]

Me too: SEAT manufacturing plant also installing photovoltaic panels on roof
    2008-01-29 08:19:08
SEAT (a brand that belongs to Volkswagen) has announced the installation of photovoltaic panels on the roof of its Martorell (near Barcelona) factory in Spain. The company expects this move will save up to 11,700 tons of CO2 from being released to the atmosphere. The panels have a power of 8.5 MW and are expected to produce 11.2 GWh per year. The panels will be installed gradually. First, the corporate building and the vehicle storage yard will get them, but the plan is to extend them over the production lines, covering up to 206,000 m2. Not far away, in El Prat de Llobregat, is where Nissan installed solar panels as well. The Spanish government is currently giving subventions to big industries for such installations, where large surfaces are available.[Source: SEAT (link is in Spanish)]

Installing a programmable thermostat helps save energy by automatically turning down your heat or turning up your cooling when you're asleep or away from home. The savings from using a programmable thermostat will depend on many factors like the type of equipment, efficiency of equipment and the overall energy efficiency of your home.Typical savings are about one-percent per degree set-back for each eight hour period. Installing Windows Vista
    2007-06-16 23:57:58
I have not yet made the jump to Windows Vista on any of my personal machines. We have installed Vista on some machines in the test lab where I work. When we started playing with a Vista beta, Vista was not allowed on our network but our customers were using Vista; demanding that we test our products on Vista. Glazed holds up the best for heavy traffic areas and porcelain works well in bathrooms. Porcelain is typically more expensive, so consider your budget and the size of the area you want to tile. Tiles also come in many shapes and sizes. For flooring, however, I would suggest using larger tiles up to 12” x 12”.UnderlaymentFor proper installation the base foundation or the underlayment is critical. Typically it consists of ¾” to 1 ¼” of plywood. Tiling over Linoleum or existing tile is also fe
