| Trend Analysis: Internet Market in India | | 2008-05-22 05:39:39 | | JuxtConsult an Online research firm is the latest to release a report about Internet in india. The report is titled "India Online 2008" and is based on an on-ground survey conducted in March in 12,500 households in 40 cities of all population sizes, and 4,000 households in 160 villages across all socioeconomic classes. The Internet usage, online behavior and site preferences were collated from 15,000 Internet users through an online survey conducted in April. Some of the things that caught my eye was that only 28% people prefer to read in English when online and 65% users use Google for local language searches which show that there is a scope for regional languages on the web. Another out of the way info was that Rediff was used by 19% users for renting a movie cd which surprised me that there was such a market in India. Just a disclaimer that with a sample size of 15000 it is very brave to make predictions about millions and so take the report with a pinch of salt but it can still help... | | By: Marketing & technology in India | | |
| | Trend Analysis: India Internet market and key statistics | | 2007-12-18 01:26:49 | | IAMAI and IMRB have come out with Internet in India report for 2007 and they have claimed active Internet user (some one who has used Internet at least once in last month) base of 32 million however a more important figure for Internet companies should be those users who use Internet at least 2-3 times a week which comes out to be 20.8 million. There are some other interesting analysis for InternetFor 51% of total users main application of use is email this is why Indian portals are still advertising on their email features. For college going students only 32% say primary use is email while 35% use it for entertainment (Orkut might be a major player in this segment) Disappointingly only 5% use it for ecommerce with the highest percentage of users coming from young men below age of 35 who are not college students. In keeping with international trends office and cybercafes are major sources of use.Though the report claims that other SECs are becoming important but I believe importantly we should look at active users for our analysis and not all users wherein SEC A and SEC B remain dominant. You can download the report here
