    2008-07-04 15:22:02
Oh the ever changing positions of Barack Obama, they will make your head spin. SSHHH. Don’t tell anyone. It’s a secret. The Iraq war has slinked off into a dark corner of the American mind and is hiding. There is one reason and one reason only for this. There isn’t enough bad news to report, so there is no report. Without the media harping on the war day [...]...

Rothman votes againt further Iraq War spending
    2008-06-20 14:28:00
U.S. Rep. Steve Rothman, D-Fairlawn, a vocal member of the Out of Iraq Caucus, opposed further funding for the war in Iraq if it is not linked to the safe redeployment of U.S. troops out of Iraq. The congressman issued the following statement about his vote:“Tonight, I voted against a $165.4 billion funding bill for the war in Iraq. At a time when Americans are facing rising food costs, higher prices at the pump, home foreclosures and failing roads, sewers and bridges, it is irresponsible to continue to misuse our military forces, and misspend our finite U.S. tax dollars to continue to police the Iraq civil war. With no clear end in sight, estimates show that the war in Iraq could ultimately cost the United States up to $3 trillion. The Department of Defense is spending an estimated $10.3 billion a month on operating costs in Iraq — while here at home our economic resources are exhausted.“I will only support funding for the Iraq war if it is linked to beginning the immediate r...

No End in Sight | how and what went wrong in Iraq War
    2008-05-28 01:56:06
The greatest enemy of knowledge is not ignorance, it is the illusion of knowledge. - Stephen Hawking1.honestly when i read the stereotyped media reports on the violence in Iraq or Afghanistan where the suicide bombing, killing and all sorts of violence is somehow tried to be portrayed as something linked with religious extremism ... i don't get it. with all my somewhat familiarity with islam and islamic teachings, it absolutely makes no sense how such act of violence can be sanctioned or even brain-washed through any kind of religious connection, no matter how extreme or how fanatic it can be pushed to.there is this notion in the media where using religious classification like Islamic Militia, Exteremist, Shia, Sunni, Mahdi Army it gives a whole picture as if all the violence is totally linked to religion of islam. but only if we look beyond the surface and what appears, we can easily see the truth of the matter and surprisingly it has very little to do with religion but more to do wit...

President gives up golf in solidarity with U.S. dead in Iraq War
    2008-05-14 07:01:19
I'm tempted to let this headline to stand for itself-- but I can't. Supposedly Bush gave up golf in 2003 (but we're just now hearing about it) after being notified, while on the golf course, that a truck bomb had killed 22 soldiers. And this is supposed to show his compassion and understanding of the depth of suffering that U.S. military and their families have experienced? And what will he give up for the rest of us, who are getting poorer and poorer in this three trillion dollar war? Chocolate bars?Atom ...

BAGHDAD (AP) - A roadside bomb killed four U.S. soldiers in Baghdad on Sunday, the military said, pushing the overall American death toll in the five-year war to at least 4,000. Bush says Iraq war was worth it
    2008-03-19 09:52:41
WASHINGTON - President Bush says he has no doubts about launching the unpopular war in Iraq despite the “high cost in lives and treasure,” arguing that retreat now would embolden Iran and provide al-Qaida with money for weapons of mass destruction to attack the United States. Bush is to mark the fifth anniversary of the U.S.-led [...]...

'Iraq war is the reason for US recession' says Nobel Laureate
    2008-03-02 09:12:00
The Iraq war has contributed to the U.S. economic slowdown and is impeding an economic recovery, Nobel-winning economist Joseph Stiglitz says. Meanwhile, the U.S. government is severely underestimating the cost of the war, Stiglitz and co-author Linda Bilmes write in their book, "The Three Trillion Dollar War" (W.W. Norton), due to be published on Monday. The nearly 5-year-old war, once billed as virtually paying for itself through increased Iraqi oil exports, has cost the U.S. Treasury $845 billion directly. "It used to be thought that wars are good for the economy. No economist really believes that anymore," Stiglitz said in an interview. Stiglitz and Bilmes argue the true costs are at least $3 trillion under what they call an ultraconservative estimate, and could surpass the cost of World War Two, which they put at $5 trillion after adjusting for inflation. The direct costs exclude interest on the debt raised to fund the war, health care costs for veter...

Greenspan says (basically) that with higher MPG cars, Iraq war could have been avoided
    2007-09-20 05:54:17
In a statement that would shock no one except for the fact that it's coming from Alan Greenspan - Alan Greenspan! - another voice has chimed in to say that the Iraq war was really all about oil.According to the Times of London, Greenspan writes in his new book that, "I am saddened that it is politically inconvenient to acknowledge what everyone knows: the Iraq war is largely about oil." The official line, of course, is that the the U.S. invaded Iraq because Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction; this turned out to not be the case. Now, there are all sorts of reasons why the ex-Federal Reserve Chairman could be right or wrong about the reasons for the Iraq war. I'm pretty sure that oil had something to do with it, but the larger economic and empire questions should not be ignored just because a Republican we don't expect to go against official pronouncements speaks out. As far as putting this up on a green car blog, I hope you'll agree that calculating overall oil use and d...

    Iraq War Was About Oil?
    2007-09-18 08:00:40
Alan Greenspan thinks so...From the UK Times AMERICA’s elder statesman of finance, Alan Greenspan, has shaken the White House by declaring that the prime motive for the war in Iraq was oil.In his long-awaited memoir, to be published tomorrow, Greenspan, a Republican whose 18-year tenure as head of the US Federal Reserve was widely admired, will also deliver a stinging critique of President George W Bush’s economic policies. However, it is his view on the motive for the 2003 Iraq invasion that is likely to provoke the most controversy. “I am saddened that it is politically inconvenient to acknowledge what everyone knows: the Iraq war is largely about oil,” he says.Greenspan, 81, is understood to believe that Saddam Hussein posed a threat to the security of oil supplies in the Middle East. more**Update**Greenspan later clarified his statement in an interview with the WaPo:Greenspan, who was the country's top voice on monetary policy at the time Bush decided to go to war in Iraq, has refrained from extensive public comment on it until now, but he made the striking comment in a new memoir out today that "the Iraq War is largely about oil." In the interview, he clarified that sentence in his 531-page book, saying that while securing global oil supplies was "not the administration's motive," he had presented the White House with the case for why removing Hussein was important for the global economy.Well its a much more plausible theory than the far left's theory that we were trying to grab all the oil in Iraq. Greenspan is at least a highly reputable source. Even if one disputes the veracity of Greenspan's statement one cannot deny that oil security is of import. However in my opinion if its that important then we should be making a bigger push towards energy independence. Now if we could only take a break from arguing about global warming long enough to actually work together to achieve this goal in a rational manner we'd all be better off. ...

Washington, D.C. Iraq War Protest: The Circus is Coming to Town, Again
    2007-09-17 19:11:27
The Circus is coming to town, again. This time they are protesting the War in Iraq in Washington, D.C.While there are legitimate concerns about the War in Iraq, why does the kook fringe Left always have to resort to this type of nonsense? (See Video)I also have a few questions for the lunatic liberal base:1) Why is it that a liberal protest is not discernible from a typical hippie jam-fest? Shouldn't a protest demonstrate something other than a time for fun, games, music, and a time to get high?2) These protests have their own form of attention deficit disorder. Why does every liberal protest have to include random Leftist grievances from communists, environmentalists, feminists, and people who want to protect prostitutes (see video).3) Are you even trying to change public opinion? Protests like these hurt your cause because you people push away those who may potentially agree with you.4) When are any of you going to learn how to play the bongo? You liberals bring bongos to every...

Injured Iraq war vets to sue VA
    2007-07-23 21:53:04
WASHINGTON (AP) — Frustrated by delays in health care, a coalition of injured Iraq war veterans is accusing VA Secretary Jim Nicholson of breaking the law by denying them disability pay and mental health treatment. The class-action lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, set to be filed Monday in federal court in San Francisco, seeks broad change in the agency as it struggles to meet growing demands from veterans returning home from Iraq and Afghanistan. Suing on behalf of hundreds of thousands of veterans, it charges that the VA has failed warriors on several fronts — from providing prompt disability benefits, to adding staff to reduce wait times for medical care to boosting services for post-traumatic stress disorder. It’s a sad statement of affairs in this nation when the men and women have to sue the federal government to get the health care and disability benefits they need, deserve and have more than earned… The V.A. has long been lacking in ne...

The Iraq War: A Sign of Immaturity
    2007-07-19 21:55:00
Recent news articles concerning the “rebirth” of Al Qaeda have fueled a decent amount of speculation about where the Iraq War is heading and whether it’s original intention are still intact. The Bush administration’s attempts at drawing a correlation between Al Qaeda and Iraq were vague at best and somehow the American populace forgot that the reasons behind the war never proved themselves to be worth it. Time has been the most useful tool that the currentadministration has wielded against the American people and we are all too quick to forget what led to this fiasco to begin with. The current arguments for staying in Iraq still hinge on the “we started something and we are going to finish it” Republican doctrine. To leave, in their opinion, would be cowardly. Supposedly we arrived to complete certain tasks but managed to create a civil war in the process. The true reasons that American troops continue to surge into Iraq is far more secretive and illusive than any politi...

Growing frustration with the performance of the Democratic Congress over the Iraq war
    2007-06-07 15:49:00
Dissatisfaction with the Democrat's over the failure to stand up against the Iraq war is staring to show in the polls, and the media. Source: The washington post"Disapproval of Bush's performance in office remains high, but the poll highlighted growing disapproval of the new Democratic majority in Congress. Just 39 percent said they approve of the job Congress is doing, down from 44 percent in April, when the new Congress was about 100 days into its term. More significant, approval of congressional Democrats dropped 10 percentage points over that same period, from 54 percent to 44 percent." ...
