Ronan Gallagher's UFO documentary Loving The Alien,Ireland,Europe
    2008-07-17 17:22:19
Hi guys,Loving The Alien' is a documentary type film inspired by and shot around the 2nd Irish International UFO Conference which was held in Ireland late August 2005 at The Bush Hotel, Carrick on Shannon, Co Leitrim. The area around nearby Boyle in Co Roscommon has become a hotspot for alleged UFO activity and has attracted a lot of interest from the media, UFO Researchers, and ordinary people. Whether one is sceptical of such accounts or a total believer, the fact is, that these UFO sightings are relatively common.Loving the Alien is not about proving or disproving anyone's theories, or about mocking or ridiculing people or disrespecting their strongly held beliefs, it is hopefully more about being informative.

    Cosmetic Surgery Happenings In Ireland
    2008-06-16 06:22:00
The Emerald Country’s name has been popping up a lot lately and from the look of things Ireland could suffer a serious setback in its leap to the list of countries to visit for cosmetic surgery. The cosmetic surgery story making headlines in Ireland and the rest of world is about a 48-year-old woman who is believed to have died as a result of faulty hospital equipment. Bernadette Reid-Kavanagh died after coming out from her gastric band surgery in February this year. If it weren’t for the machine that was supposed to monitor her blood pressure, pulse and oxygen backfiring, Bernadette it is alleged would have still been alive. Doctors, on the other hand claim that she was over the limit of accepted weight and suffered from chronic asthma, reasons which are considered as deterrents to cosmetic surgery. The pathologist chronicled Bernadette’s death as the result of a cardiac condition that deprived the heart of blood supply. Obesity was stated as a contributory cause. Th

Referendum in Ireland: "NO" to the Treaty of Lisbon
    2008-06-13 18:43:46
That's why democracy is the worst form of government except for all those others that have been tried. The Irish voted "No" against the end of restrictions on abortion, and to keep the country’s traditional neutrality and the low tax rates responsible for the rise of the Celtic Tiger. Not against the Treaty. Now what?Blogging in Luxembourg. In engrish.

Tomorrow Ireland decides Treaty of Lisbon
    2008-06-11 01:06:00
Irish people is going to decide the future of Europe. The population of the European Union is 490 million, according to the CIA World Factbook. If we imagine that 2/3 of the EU population is old enough to vote, that would work out at about 325 million. After the defeat of the EU Constitution in 2005 by Dutch and French voters (and the rejection of the first Treaty of Nice in Ireland in 2001), the elites of Europe have learned a valuable lesson: don't put vital matters of EU-wide importance to the people by referendum, because they might just vote the "wrong" way.So, the Irish people are the only citizens in all the European Union to be given the right to vote on this so-called treaty. That is to say - out of some 325,000,000 Europeans who should be allowed to have their say, the fate of the EU will be placed in the hands of some 2,000,000 Irish votersThe EU's new Lisbon Treaty is under threat because Ireland is holding a popular ballot on the agreement ahead of a referendum.Ireland is t

Hello my faithful visitors! Sorry for the long pause of posting. Unfortunately I have a lot on my plate and very few time for my beloved hobby. Anyway, I am working on some changes to free some time and to post more regularly ... I didn't post a picture of Ireland for ages. Here we go: This one shows the famous Cliffs of Moher. The cliffs are at the west coast of Ireland and very near to Galway (by the way the city we loved most in Ireland!). I think we do have to go to Ireland soon! --------- Weather is changing very rapidly here in Austria. A Few More Ireland Shots
    2008-04-26 05:42:40
A Few More Ireland ShotsPlease humor me as I sort through my archives. I have so much disk space on my main computer that having extra files doesn’t matter. However, on my Laptop I have an 80 gig Hard Drive and that is getting kind of full so I have to get rid of some photos. These Foxgloves were growing at the end of a long gravel road we decided to drive out on. There were sheep there and up on the hills a man was training a couple of Border Collies. You could hear the barking and whistling even though they were quite far away.Foxglove is one of our most requested plants for perennial gardens. I have found that it is not quite perennial. It has been a bit frustrating in some aspects to get and keep them going. It is okay if they are growing in kind of a woodland setting as they renew themselves by seeding. This can be a little tricky in a highly maintained and mulched border though (at least to me). I will, of course, keep trying since if you don’t have optimism as a gardener you

Jeff Ireland press conference recap (updated)
    2008-04-17 13:02:45
For the first and last time prior to the NFL Draft, which is just 9 days away, Dolphins GM Jeff Ireland met with the media. So what was the highlight? Well, when asked about a question in regards to something along the lines of drafting players with potential against drafting productive college players (I do forget the actual wording of the question), Ireland actually made a slip up and said something about drafting the best player for this defense. The room burst out in laughter to which Jeff asked what he just said and the reporters pointed out that he said "for the defense." Ireland tried to correct himself, but it was an interesting moment. More on this as I hear it. Update [2008-4-17 13:22:16 by Matty I]: Here's the actual quote of the slip. Ireland said about the first pick, "You hope that he's a pillar of your defense for a long time." Then everyone laughed and it was pointed out to him what he had said. Ireland responded, "A pillar of your defense or offense, your

Jeff Ireland to talk publicly tomorrow
    2008-04-16 20:14:06
I just wanted to point out that you can watch GM Jeff Ireland's press conference tomorrow live on miamidolphins.com.  It's scheduled to begin at 12:30 EDT.   This is the last time the Dolphins will publicly talk about the draft before April 26's first pick.  It'll be interesting to see what, if anything, Jeff says about their potential negotiations with the players who could be the top pick.   While most teams end up saying very little at these press conferences, there is a belief out there that Ireland will actually be more honest than others: The truth is the Dolphins are acting quite civil about this whole draft thing. Ireland will talk about the draft for the first time Thursday. He isn't expected to unveil Miami's plans, but he isn't likely to lie either. And the reason one can be relatively certain Ireland won't lie Thursday is that he turned down multiple requests to talk about the draft last month at the NFL annual meeting. The reason Ireland had for not

Rhetoric versus reality: Burundi's leader feted by the churches in Northern Ireland just weeks after violent attacks on political opposition at home
    2008-04-10 05:58:00
The Rev Trevor Stevenson, of Irish-based charity Fields of Life, which invited the President Nkurunziza to Northern Ireland, believes this is an opportunity to discuss reconciliation progress in both countries. His visit is a symbol of how far the political process has moved forward. “We are thrilled to have President Nkurunziza here as a guest of Fields of Life. The strong message that he hopes to convey is that through the word of God, forgiveness can be found in the bleakest of times,” -Belfast Newsletter, 5 April 2008http://www.newsletter.co.uk/news/President-briefs-churchleaders-on-peace.3951147.jpThe attacks on the politicians’ homes took place almost simultaneously on March 8, 2008, suggesting they were a coordinated effort to intimidate the political opposition to the ruling party... Wednesday, March 26th, 2008: Rest in peace, John Aherne - A day of sadness in Helsingborg, Stockholm, and Wicklow, Ireland
    2008-03-26 08:36:00
What I think:I'm very sad to relay the news that John Aherne, an Irish tourist who went missing in Stockholm over St Patrick's Day weekend, has drowned. His body was recovered just before midday in the water at Norra Hammarby harbour, in the southern part of central Stockholm.I'd written a couple of posts about John's mysterious disappearance, and had been hoping that he would be found safe and well. This is truly tragic, and my deepest heartfelt condolences go out to John's family and friends. The events, from when John went missing, to when the news broke, and leading right up until I sit here writing this, are covered quite touchingly on the discussion forum on The Local (Sweden's news in English). It starts with Karl (John's host in Stockholm) explaining the circumstances surrounding John's disappearance, and the other regulars then offer help, support, hope and prayers (which they maintain throughout). The forum is then visited by many, many people from Ireland, some of whom take

Northern Ireland emerges as a tourist hot spot
    2008-03-10 08:21:00
Since the Good Friday Peace Accord of 1998, Northern Ireland has morphed from the land of "Troubles" to an up-and-coming tourist destination. Before that, sectarian violence between Protestants and Catholics made headlines around the world as Loyalists to the British Crown battled those who wanted Northern Ireland free of English rule. Skirmishes between the British military and paramilitary forces broke out on a regular basis. The Good Friday agreement, however, ushered in equal rights, legitimization of the Irish language, demilitarization and arms decommissioning. As a result, violence subsided and the streets of Belfast and Derry became safe. With peace came economic prosperity.Investment companies formed to develop and reconstruct vast areas of Belfast. New restaurants and bars opened; more jobs resulted in a population with more sterling to spend.Suddenly, 19th-century Ireland's most industrial city became a bustling European hot spot. The airlines have helped. Ireland en route to Dallas
    2008-01-15 10:40:09
**UPDATE**: The Palm Beach Post is also now reporting that Ireland is on his way to Dallas to pick up Sparano after Sparano concluded a coaches meeting: A source confirmed new Dolphins GM Jeff Ireland left for Dallas on one of Wayne HuizengaÂ’s planes a few hours ago to pick up Sparano and bring him back to South Florida. Ireland and Sparano met on Jan. 5 in Dallas, but Huizenga and Bill Parcells, who doesnÂ’t like to fly, have not spoken with Sparano face to face about the head-coaching opening. That should change tonight. You get the feeling that he'll be our new head coach within 24-48 hours, don't you? [end update] Armando Salguero continues to offer up the latest on the Dolphins coaching search.  So what is the latest?  It seems as though Jeff Ireland has boarded one of Wayne Huizenga's jets and is off to Dallas to pick up Tony Sparano.  Salguero estimates that Ireland and Sparano will be back in Miami sometime between 6 and 7 pm.   From there, the Dolphins will likely wine and dine Sparano and perhaps even have him meet with Huizenga for the first time.  According to Salguero, Sparano's agent already has a preliminary contract that he would accept for Sparano.  This contract "includes something of a raise" from what the first time head coaches got last year. So now we continue to wait.  But it's very likely that our next head coach will be arriving in Miami later this evening.

    Dolphins Hire Ireland, Fire Cam?
    2008-01-02 14:04:00
EDIT: The Post has reported that this is official. PFT is reporting Cam was fired last night.Armando Salguero is reporting the Dolphins have pretty much all but hired Jeff Ireland as the new GM. Ireland was previously the GM of the Dallas Cowboys, so its obvious the Big Tuna is bringing in his own people to run the show. Considering the recent resurgence of the Cowboys franchise, I wouldn't mind if he brought as many guys as he wanted.Up next is probably going to be Tony Sparano, who if hired as the head coach of the Dolphins would be the butt of Sopranos jokes during his entire tenure here. That of course means that Cam Cam is on his way out, after only one season at the helm.Like I've said before, I'm pretty indifferent towards Cam Cameron. He proved nothing to us as a head coach, but giving a guy only one season is typically a rash thing to do. That being said, if Parcells is more comfortable with the guys that helped build up the Cowboys, then let the man work his magic. However,

Ireland to adopt CO2-based vehicle registration taxes
    2007-12-09 17:52:55
Ireland looks set to join the rush to switch their vehicle registration taxes to a system based on CO2 emissions. Currently, Irish registration fees are based on engine size. The engine size determines what percentage of the car's value has to be paid as a registration fee. Starting July 1, 2008, Ireland will begin using the same CO2 emissions bands as the UK with Band A being cars with less than 120 g/km of emissions. Band A car drivers will only have to pay a 14 percent tax while drivers of Band G cars (over 226 g/km) will have to pay 36 percent. What Is There To See And Do In Ireland?
    2007-12-05 16:06:29
This post is in connection to the ones prior to this one as I told you guys im still looking for a very good place to have a vacation this coming months. Ive heard that ireland is one of the prime tourist destinations in Europe. This is something that I am curious about.I looked for things to do and places to go to and I found myself looking for a suitable hotel to stay in during my proposed vacation. They say dublin hotels offer a simple yet elegant suites and this is something quite similar to cardiff hotels. As a hotel lover, i know just where I want to stay and personally, if ever this ireland trip is going to push through, its going to be a decision between newcastle hotels for its rich history and leeds hotels for its night life and its rich cityscapes.

The changing mortgage market in Northern Ireland
    2007-11-24 05:59:07
Not so long ago, the mortgage market in Northern Ireland was really simple. The majority of UK mortgages weren’t on offer there and there were none of the products available at the really sophisticated end of the scale. Nowadays, it’s quite a different landscape though. Almost all of the types of mortgages are on offer now [...]

    2007-10-04 07:07:00
Here is a favorite Irish saying: There are many good reasons for drinking, One has just entered my head. If a man doesn't drink when he's living, How the hell can he drink when he's dead? And another Irish drinking tale - This one is about wishing for a long life: Three tipsy Irishmen, Paddy, Sean and Michael, had left the pub rather late one night and found themselves on the road leading past

The Long Journey To Dublin, Ireland
    2007-07-21 05:44:14
Sunday, August 16, 1998 This morning I faced a day without theater. I dropped my bags at the bus station, and went up to Piccadilly. Once there, I went to the Pepsi Trocadero. Though I had stopped in a few nights ago, it was less crowded now. I went to see “Everest” in the IMAX Theater for $10. It wasn’t worth it. There were some cool scenes, one or two moments of rumble and bass, but overall, it was a disappointment. I also played “Top Skater” and the “Lost World” in the arcade (for a $1.50 per game). The whole complex is a giant marketing tool for Pepsi, with about fifteen vending machines and the Spice Girls Next Generation X commercial song playing every five minutes. It is another cool and beautiful day in London. It should be even cooler in Ireland. I don’t really think there are any touristy things I want to do for the rest of the trip. For that reason, I’m content with just drinking. I figured out that I went $150 over budge

Digital Ireland - Are we missing out?
    2006-11-28 11:41:00

Thankfully now that we are nearer to Dublin there is a lot more available. I am saddened though that people in the country are not embracing the Internet as their city counterparts have. Of course there are access issues. Sad that in this day
