    Jacksonville Jaguars preseason schedule
    2008-07-17 20:22:55
While this is fairly flagrantly borrowed from Gonzo at the Daily Norseman, I think we'll find it useful.  This is the Jaguars preseason schedule, with the scheduled re-broadcasts on the NFL Network.  I've got a sneaking suspicion that I'll be watching the first three games on the second go-around, though +5 bonus points to anyone who's willing to burn and overnight me a DVD so I can chart playing time and substitutions. Jacksonville Jaguars Offseason Questions: Pass Rush Improved?
    2008-07-17 00:14:15
With training camp just around the corner (July 26th), Big Cat Country is taking a look at the progress made by the Jaguars to address their biggest offseason questions.  Today's episode revolves around the addressing the pass rush.  Where to Begin: (not) Under Pressure When the Jacksonville Jaguars left the playoffs after a painfully disappointing and embittering loss to New England, the offseason needs wrote themselves.  The Jaguars had just participated in the Tom Brady passing school, where an ineffective pass rush had allowed Brady to complete 26 of 28 passes, a number that would haunt the Jaguars defense.  The front four of the Jaguars struggled during the 2007 season to bring effective and consistant pressure against opposing quarterbacks.  For the Jaguars, this led to a multitude of problems, from allowing opponents to come back into games to forcing the secondary to cover receivers for so long that finding the open man was only a matter of time.&nb

Jacksonville Jaguars Rookie Signing: Cornerback Trae Williams
    2008-07-16 00:17:52
Adam Caplan is reporting to JagNation.com that Jaguars fifth-round pick, defensive back Trae Williams has signed a four-year deal.  Details at JagNation.com Williams is expected to compete with Scott Starks and Gerald Sensabaugh for the Jaguars nickelback job. Williams is described by scouts as a perfect nickel cornerback prospect. Trae Williams and Scott Starks will battle it out for the fourth corner position with the loser possible being the fifth corner, or cut if the Jaguars choose not to keep 5 corners. [Note by River City Rage, 07/16/08 1:12 AM EDT ] Once again, big thanks to Robb for reporting this here. The Jaguars now have three of five draft picks under contract.  Second round pick Quentin Groves and first round pick Derrick Harvey are next, and should be signed before the start of training camp.  As of now there is no indication that either pick is proving difficult to sign and both "should" be ready for next Friday's opening of training camp. Wayne Weaver: The Jacksonville Jaguars are "not for sale"!
    2008-07-10 10:17:24
“Until there’s a solution to the L.A. market, you’re going to have speculation. I can tell you the Jaguars aren’t one of the teams lining up to go to L.A.” Thankfully, the Matt Jones news is offset by the statement made by Wayne Weaver this morning on the reported possible sale of the Jaguars. "In light of news reports from last night, I must once again reiterate the fact that I am not selling the Jaguars. The team is not for sale, and I cannot say it any more clearly than that," Weaver said in the statement. "I’m not going to speculate about the future – whatever happens in the future, the Jaguars will be the Jacksonville Jaguars. The situation is the same as it was last year when I explained that we were looking into refinancing some debt and the possibility of adding investors. We chose not to, but that has always been an option. That is the situation now, as it was then. You'll have to excuse me for a minute as I celebrate! ... Ok, Wayn

Special Comment: On the Future of the Jaguars in Jacksonville
    2008-07-10 01:06:02
There are so many important stories that we need to address before the begining of training camp.  We have position battles to examine, AFC South rivals to ponder, and the imminent signing of the 2008 Jaguars rookie class to consider.  Yet as of yesterday evening, the focus of the Jaguars fan community shifted to a topic of far greater importance. When I first read the news through the Philadelphia Daily News, my first reaction was to brush it aside as the yearly midsummer "Jaguars are for sale" rumor.  In fact, I typically see these as hack jobs built to drive a story that the facts rejected.  I addressed the issue of the Jaguars leaving Jacksonville on June 12th in an attempt to shoot down this storyline before it reared its ugly head.  There is nothing I hate more about covering the Jaguars than having to deal with issues of relocation, whether it be implications from rival fans to the not so thinly veiled comments from national sports media.  I would r

Mythbusting:: Brett Favre and the Jacksonville Jaguars
    2008-07-07 14:46:15
This will never happen! There is nothing more disapointing as a a sports fan than to hear a rumor that makes no sense, but because it's said by a "serious person", it spreads farther than it should.  As we are all painfully aware of, Brett Favre is dominating the media cycle with his "itch", and with this irritation comes terrible specuation about where he might play in 2008.Because some in the media are ignorant of the Jaguars, their name comes up.  Perhaps it's because of the residual memories of Byron Leftwich or the lack of recognition outside the North-Florida region, but the team is coming up in discussions of possible homes for the 38 year-old gunslinger. I've heard that Dan Patrick even alluded that the Jaguars were interested in the soon-to-be Green Bay exile.Excuse me?  Is this 2007?  Did Jack Del Rio decide to play games with David Garrard like he did with the Byron Leftwich/Daunte Culpepper noise of last July?  Of course not.  The Jagua

A Conversation with Jacksonville Jaguars Editor-in-Chief Vic Ketchman: Part One
    2008-07-02 05:00:49
A Conversation with Vic Ketchman: Part OneI was fortunate enough to talk to Jaguars.com Editor-in-Chief and leader of the Ask Vic Community Vic Ketchman in a long conversation.   Vic and I discuss everything from the end of the Byron Leftwich era to the expectations for the 2008 Jacksonville Jaguars. Vic, if you're not familiar, can be read every day at Jaguars.com.  This is part one of three of our chat.Chris: What are your thoughts on the hyper-intense coverage of OTA's and Minicamp?  Do you think it the scrutiny over what are in essence underwear practices become harmful?Vic: It's a matter of keeping it in perspective.  Achieving perspective makes it all worth while.  Achieving perspective is the important thing.  I don't think that the coverage is nearly as important as the reading of the coverage because there's just not a lot to write.  The spring practice season is, other than if a news event occurs (someone gets hurt, a particular news is

Jacksonville Jaguars Defensive Philosophy: The Buddy Ryan Effect
    2008-06-30 01:28:06
Buddy Ryan, Gregg Williams and Jack Del Rio: Will their defensive philosophies create conflict or championships? The Buddy Ryan Effect: Last week, we discussed the history, philosophy, and possible effects of introducing Gregg Williams to the Jacksonville Jaguars.  One name that comes up with any research into  Gregg Williams is his tutelage under Buddy Ryan.  Ryan is best known for developing the defense that would define the 1985 Chicago Bears, the 46 defense. Fans of the Philadelphia Eagles, Houston Oilers, and Arizona Cardinals might disagree with that statement, of course, but the legacy of Ryan is in his approach to defenses.  Gregg Williams is considered a disciple of Ryan, though he only technically worked under Ryan in 1993 with the Oilers.  Though their time together was short, Williams defensive career is centered on emulating and developing the concepts established by Buddy Ryan.  The "attack style" reputation of the Jaguars new defensiv

Jacksonville Jaguars Draft Pick Signed: RB Chauncey Washington
    2008-06-26 15:52:52
[Note by River City Rage, 06/27/08 12:28 AM EDT ] Salary Information is found! Washington got roughly $60,000 to sign along with minimum base salaries of $295,000 this season, $360,000 in 2009, $440,000 in 2010 and $550,000 in 2011. The Florida Times-Union is reporting that the Jacksonville Jaguars have signed 7th round draft pick Chauncey Washington to a contract.  Chauncey is the first of the Jaguars five draft picks to sign a contract.  The Jaguars recently released five players to ensure room for the draft picks under the 80-man roster limit.  The Jaguars have a strict policy to not release terms and conditions, including signing bonus and duration were not released, though for a 7th round player it's not much of a concern. Washington is one of four running backs currently on the Jaguars roster, including Fred Taylor, Maurice Jones-Drew, and UFA Lavarus Giles.  Given the competition, it seems very likely that Chauncey is the 3rd running back on the depth cha

[Note by River City Rage, 06/22/08 11:43 PM EDT ]: Collin has done a fantastic job here breaking down the career of Jaguars.com's Vic.  In the comments, I'd love to hear what everyone thinks of Vic, Ask Vic, and other coverage of the Jaguars. Better know the Jaguars' Official reporter  Victor J. Ketchman Introduction: Vic Ketchman is an excellent and highly lauded sportswriter who joined the Jaguars' organization in 1995. He is now in control of most of the material on the Jaguars.com official website, and his "Ask Vic" column has developed a cult following of readers both inside and outside of the Jaguar fanbase. Victor J. Ketchman comes from very humble roots; his father was the epitome of the American entrepreneur. Victor R. Jacksonville Jaguars Release 5: The Roster get's a little more clear! (UPDATED)
    2008-06-16 12:31:42
[Note by River City Rage, 06/16/08 3:20 PM EDT ] I was shortsighted in this piece and forgot the most obvious effect of the releases.  The Jaguars now have 75 players under contract and 5 unsigned draft picks.  The team released these five players to make room for the draft picks that should begin signing over the next few weeks.  You can only have 80 players under contract, so rather than sign and cut as each contract is finalized, the Jaguars are cutting ties now and (hopefully) giving them a shot to end up somewhere else. The Jacksonville Jaguars had to reduce their roster by five to get to the league mandated 80 players under contract.  None of the cuts are terribly surprising, but they do clear up the overall roster picture a bit. The cuts were: 1. Defensive End Brian Smith: We all saw this coming.  His hip injury from college just never healed up in a way where he could show the Jaguars much of anything.  This is a clear cut 4th round miss, as he

Better Know the Jacksonville Jaguars: Cornerback/Returner Brian Witherspoon

Better Know the Jacksonville Jaguars Cornerback/Returner Brian Witherspoon [Note by River City Rage, 06/16/08 1:44 AM EDT ]: Once again, Clodknocker has gone above and beyond the call of duty.  He's interviewed Jaguars UFA Brian Witherspoon, who's certainly got the speed to play in the NFL.  BCC gives a hearty thanks to both Brian and Clodknocker for the hard work! Get to know Brian Witherspoon: Brian was born and raised in the small town of Butler, Ala. He ran track and played football for Stillman College in Tuscaloosa. Stillman is a Division II college in the Southern Intercollegiate Conference. Rashod Moulton (Fort Valley State) and Drayton Florence (Tuskegee) are the only other players on the team to play in that conference. It is ironic that all three are competing for the cornerback position. At Stillman he had the honor of becoming the college's first track and field NCAA Division II All-American in 2006 for running the 100 meter dash in 10:31 seconds at the nation

Mythbusters: Will the Jaguars leave Jacksonville?
    2008-06-12 00:23:02
Welcome to the Jacksonville Jaguars edition of "Mythbusters".  Today's episode focuses on an issue that will simply never die, relocation.  Rather than repeat the same nonsense, Big Cat Country will attempt to settle these "myths" once and for all.  If you're looking for actual Mythbusters, feel free to look at these fun pictures. The Myth: The Jacksonville Jaguars are the most likely team in the NFL to be moved to Las Angeles because they can't sell out their stadium and their market is too small.  This myth started soon after the team was awarded as spurned cities like Baltimore could not understand why Jacksonville received a team before they did.  The myth died down through the late nineties, but as the team struggled through the late Tom Coughlin and early Jack Del Rio eras, it's come back in full force.  Most recently, Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com and Sporting News has churned up another rehashing of the same story with the Jaguars. Jacksonville Jaguars Signing: Lavarus Giles proves that Workouts Matter
    2008-06-11 11:10:32
In what can only be described as an absoulte longshot, Running Back Lavarus Giles became an official member of the Jacksonville Jaguars today.  Running Back D.D. Terry, who had looked pretty good so far in OTA's was released to make room for Giles. D.D. Terry had some minor fumbles in practices, but nothing so major that it seemed that he was  a release candidate for one of the tryout players. More on Giles: Jackson State University running back Lavarus Giles might be the fastest player you've never heard of.  In fact, there's a strong likelyhood that we'll hear his name in the Olympics in a few years, as his straight-line speed is nearly unbeatable.  Why then, is he an undrafted prospect hoping that a tryout on a team stacked at running back is his only shot at the NFL? His 4.41 40-yard dash was impressive at the JSU Pro-day, but his change of direction drills and footwork leave something to be desired.  Frankly, while his speed is fantastic for running in

Mythbusters: Is Jacksonville only a "College Town"?
    2008-06-10 14:20:31
Welcome to a very special edition of "Mythbusters".  Today's episode focuses on an NFL team that is surrounded by poorly researched talking points and rehashed arguments that hold little water.  Rather than repeat the same nonsense, Big Cat Country will attempt to settle these "myths" once and for all.  If you're looking for actual Mythbusters, feel free to look at these fun pictures. Myth  "Jacksonville is a "College Town". College Town: the two words that are required to be mentioned in the first three sentences of any national coverage of the Jacksonville Jaguars.  The city of Jacksonville, according to this myth, is unable to maintain a relationship with the Jaguars because their focus is on the college game of the University of Florida and Florida State University, with a little bit of University of Georgia and University of Miami tossed in for flavor.  Further explanations of this myth clam that people who are college football fans first and fore

Better Know a Jacksonville Jaguar: University of Florida Center Drew Miller: [Note by River City Rage, 06/10/08 12:10 AM EDT ] A good friend of Big Cat Country, Clodknocker, was kind enough to write this fantastic article about one of the newest Jaguars, Drew Miller.  Drew is the only offensive linemen acquired by the Jaguars during the offseason and has a better shot to make the team than most of our UFA's.  Enjoy! Drew comes from the University of Florida, where Jack Del Rio seems to have developed a relationship with Florida Coach Urban Meyer, and where the Jaguars have seemingly developed a pipeline for drafting 1th round picks; Reggie Nelson in 2007, and Derrick Harvey in 2008. He also played on a National Championship team. When asked about starting for the Gators on that team by GatorBait.net , he said: 'That was amazing! Jacksonville Jaguars Tornado Relief Contest: How you can help!
    2008-06-05 15:22:29
Two weeks ago the Iowa town of Parkersburg was reduced to rubble by a F5 tornado.  The community of only 2,000 produced four current NFL players, including Jaguars center Brad Meester. Meester's family lost two homes, four cars, and countless irreplaceable memories, though thankfully nobody in his family was hurt.  Brad and the other NFL players; Jared DeVries of Detroit, Casey Wiegmann of Denver and Green Bay's Aaron Kampman played for Aplington-Parker High School, which was completely destroyed in the tornado.  The Jaguars and Brad Meester have created a fantastic fund-raiser to help rebuild the community and give the fans a way to participate.  This weekend, both on Jaguars.com and at the Minicamp, fans can purchase an Aplington-Parker High School hat for $19.95   Proceeds will go to the Parkersburg Relief Fund. The hat can be ordered online here and will also be sold at Minicamp this weekend. To help with this cause, Big Cat Country has a specia

Better Know the Jacksonville Jaguars: Defensive Tackle Theo Horrocks
    2008-06-03 03:10:52
[Note by River City Rage, 06/03/08 1:04 AM PDT ] Clodknocker was kind enough to do an interview with one of my favorite Defensive Tackle Prospects in Theo Horrocks.  Theo, in my opinion, is playing for a spot on the practice squad, unless there is a major shakeup on the defensive line.  There are only 53 roster spots, and to add guys like Horrocks could mean a serious deficiency elsewhere.  Regardless, he's a serious prospect and someone the Jaguars should develop!  -C Better Know a Player: Theo Horrocks! Theo attended Lincoln High in Fayetteville, Tennessee, a small town south of Nashville. Both he and fellow defensive tackle, Lamar Divens, were signed by Vanderbilt. Lamar later transferred to Tenn. State and is now an undrafted free agent  with the San Diego Chargers. As a true freshman, Theo played in nine games while starting in two. In his sophomore year, he played in 10 games and led the Commodore's defensive tackles with 15 so

Jacksonville Jaguars Minicamp: What to to watch, Who to watch, and more!
    2008-06-02 01:23:37
Minicamp is this weekend, and with it comes the high-water mark of the dead zone.  After minicamp closes on Saturday, it's just three OTA's till the meetings end, the coaches take some time off, and all eyes fall toward the end of July.  Minicamp is more intense than OTA's, but still not the real contact of training camp.  Avoiding injury is the number one concern, obviously, but for the Jaguars representing the more crowded spots of the roster it's also their first shot at establishing momentum toward securing the roster spot.  Life on the margins is hard in the NFL, and with the hard cap of eighty players, there is very little room for error in securing reps that mean anything.  The playbook develops a little bit more as will some of the defensive scheming, but it's still largely a passing camp, and the focus will be on the skill position players to a large extent.  I'm of the belief that it's better to study the running game on film rather than risk

BREAKING: Jacksonville Jaguars team to beat in AFC South
    2008-05-27 11:01:09
Contrary to other reports , the Jacksonville Jaguars have used the 2008 offseason to announce to the division that they are the team to beat in the AFC South.  While the Indianapolis Colts deserve the respect due to a six-time division winner, there is no reason to assume that the reigning champs have done enough to hold their position at the top of the South. Yes, this article intended as a bit of Counter Battery fire toward my good friend and Indianapolis Colts writer over at Stampede Blue.  Big Blue Shoe, as he calls himself, delights in mocking our Jaguars whenever possible, in what can only be a defense mechanism to the pain and suffering that Jacksonville is going to give their team in 2008.  And we can forgive him, it's merely one step in the Kubler-Ross "Stages of Grief ": In this case, our fellow Colts fans are deeply in denial of the changes and progress made by the Jaguars during this offseason.  Denial manifests itself in peculiar ways in a fanbase,&n

Contract Extension: Jacksonville Jaguars extend Defensive Tackle Tony McDaniel
    2008-05-21 15:22:13
Jacksonville Sports Radio 101XL just reported that the Jaguars have agreed to a Contract Extension with Defensive Tackle Tony McDaniel.  The 6-7, 310 third year player is an imposing, albeit developing player on the roster.  McDaniel has played in 15 games in his career, but missed 12 last season due to injury. The Jaguars would not have traded Marcus Stroud if they did not believe that Tony McDaniel would develop into a force on the defensive line. Terms are not disclosed, as usual, but I will post them as soon as they are leaked. This is the third extension in the last few days with defensive tackle Rob Meier coming to terms with an extension along with tackle Richard Collier  Defensive End Paul Spicer was offered a contract, but did not come to an agreement. -Chris

Unnamed Sources say Jacksonville Jaguars for Sale
    2008-05-20 11:51:26
Now, let me set the record straight: I do not believe what I am reporting.  I am merely passing along what Michael Silver reported on Yahoo.com. In his article about the St. Louis Rams being for sale, he mentions that "unnamed" league sources claim that the Jaguars owner, Wayne Weaver, has sought buyers for the team. He then debunks said source by quoting Eddie DeBartolo: One high-ranking league source says the Jacksonville Jaguars are another team that might be sold and relocated to L.A. and that owner Wayne Weaver has solicited potential buyers in recent months. But DeBartolo discounted the possibility of purchasing the Jags, saying, "I think (he'll sell) every year, but it doesn't happen. I get the feeling that Wayne really wants a Super Bowl, and every year he keeps thinking, 'It's gonna be the year,' and he decides to keep them." It's that time of year.  Every offseason there's a rumor, a quote, a statement from somewhere that the Jaguars are for sale and they're on

2008 Jacksonville Jaguars Roster Breakdown: The Wide Receivers
    2008-05-20 05:00:02
In recent years the Jacksonville Jaguars have faced a "yeah, but" problem with their offense.  The solid running game, the productive line play, even with the quarterback problems, the sore thumb of the Jaguars offense is the Wide Receiving Corps.  Despite having two first round draft picks in Reggie Williams and Matt Jones, the Jaguars have not yet found the heir apparant to Jimmy Smith, and even throughout the outstanding 2007 season lacked the receiver that guaranteed a double team and that would strike fear into defensive game planning. While the Jaguars went through an offensive explosion last season, there are still question marks surrounding the receivers.  Will Reggie Williams repeat his 10 touchdown and 600 yards or was those merely outliers?  Will Matt Jones wake up or stay in Jack Del Rio's doghouse? The offseason only added to those questions as the Jaguars charted an aggressive course to surround quarterback David Garrard with as many weapons

Jacksonville Jaguars OTA News and Updates:
    2008-05-19 05:00:02
On Monday, the Jaguars will begin their third session of Offseason Training Activities (OTA), with eight more practices until their Mini-camp on the weekend of June 6th.  These OTA sessions are critical in building a cohesive and strong football team because there is so little time in training camp to build relationships and put units on the same page.  Remember, the 2008 Jacksonville Jaguars open their season in Tennessee, and then play the Colts and Texans in the first month of the regular season.  Without a strong start, the Jaguars could find themselves hopelessly behind in the critical AFC South division race before Christmas Decorations appear in the Avenues Mall. Jaguars.com's Vic Ketchman, a writer any Jaguars fan is familiar with, is chafing at the interest in the teams OTA"s, which is terribly off-base.  While yes, these are just "underwear" practices, there is a feeling of importance that cannot be brushed aside, as Vic is wont to do: If I may, I&rsq

Jacksonville Jaguars Defensive Tackle Rob Meier agreed to a 5 year contract extension today and became the heir apparant to Marcus Stroud on the defensive line.  The terms of the contract, as usual, are unknown, but the numbers are bigger than the 2.095 base salary he was due under his previous contract.  Meier, despite my terrible prediction that he might be one of the more vulnerable players on the roster, is a solid defensive tackle that filled in admirably in Stroud's absence.   When Stroud went to Buffalo, I assumed that defensive tackle would be a position of need going into the draft, but the Jaguars clearly think differently.  With Meier as the counterpart to Henderson, the Jaguars have Tony McDaniel and Derek Landri as the primary rotation in the middle.  No matter how you shake it, that's a pretty solid group.  I'd expect to see Landri fill in on 3rd downs and obvious passing situations, and I would not be surprised to see Meier/Land

Jacksonville Jaguars Defensive End Paul Spicer Skips OTA's
    2008-05-13 12:22:33
From the department of poor decisions: Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end Paul Spicer elected to not attend today's offseason training activity (OTA) at Jacksonville Municipal Stadium.  Fred Taylor, a regular no-show, was also absent, though he plans on attending a few between now and training camp. Spicer's absence comes as a surprise, considering the amount invested at his position this year.  Spicer led the team in sacks last season, though at 32 years old, is rapidly approaching the end of his career. It is probably contract related : "I spoke to both of them this morning. I’ll let you ask (Spicer) how he wants to present it," Del Rio said when asked if Spicer’s absence is a result of contract discontent. "He expressed that he wouldn’t be here. I expressed that I’d like him to be here." Paul last signed a contract with the Jaguars in 2006, a three year extension.  He's due to make 2.5 million dollars this season, and will be a free agent

2008 Jacksonville Jaguars: Historical Roster Breakdown
    2008-05-12 11:00:55
The Jacksonville Jaguars offseason training activities start this week and with that begins the battle for positioning toward the final roster.  The NFL only allows 53 players on the final roster and an eight man practice squad.  I thought it might be interesting as be begin our position by position breakdown to look back at how many players we carry on our roster for each role. Teams are required to have their roster at specific levels through training camp.  Because NFL Europa ceases to exist, teams have a hard cap of eighty players under contract.  On August 26th, the roster must be cut down to 75 players.  The final cut date is August 30th where the roster may only have 53 players. Tracking roster sizes for each position is actually fairly complicated.  Players that are multi-functional, particularly on the offensive line, can throw off a count.  For the purposes of this analysis, I will treat all offensive linemen together.  Cornerbacks a

Better Know the Jacksonville Jaguars: An Interview with QB Paul Smith
    2008-05-07 15:18:02
As previously previewed , Tulsa Golden Hurricane Paul Smith is one of four quarterbacks on the Jaguars roster.  While the top two spots in the Jaguars rotation is without doubt, there is a weakness in the long-term development of a new signal caller.  While David Garrard has very low miles for his age, Cleo Lemon is neither a development for the future nor a suitable backup for the next several years.  Part of building a team is to keep an eye three to four years ahead.  In this case, the signing of Paul Smith as an undrafted free agent just might be the Jaguars "jar on the shelf" at the most premium of premium positions. I recently had the chance to talk with Paul Smith.  He is by far the most engaging of all the players I've had the chance to interview, and we talked for quite some time.  Unfortunately, the answers to my first few questions was lost due to my inability to properly use my voice recorder.  First off, I would like to thank Paul S

2008 Jacksonville Jaguars Signing: Linebacker Lamar Myles
    2008-05-05 13:07:31
The Jacksonville Jaguars are a popular team for undrafted free-agents because they have a good habit finding starters in the ranks of the "undraftable".  Jack Del Rio fosters an environment of competition in his off-season that allows for players that might lack the draft credentials to have a fair and reasonable shot at making the roster.  Remember, the undrafted free agent is playing for his NFL career, just getting a shot to be on the practice squad will increase the chance that a player proves himself to a team and continue to live the dream of playing on Sundays. In Jacksonville, there's a realistic shot of not only going to the practice squad, but to make the final roster and make an impact.  To be fair, the Jaguars roster is pretty stacked to begin with this year, but with the lack of draft picks due to the Derrick Harvey/Quentin Groves moves, there is just enough wiggle room to allow a hard working and determined UDFA to make an impact and be on the final ros

Jacksonville Jaguars Undrafted Free Agents: Scouting Report, part 1
    2008-04-30 15:11:21
The Jacksonville Jaguars signed quite a few undrafted free-agents after the draft.  Many of these guys played at smaller schools or in conferences rarely seen on television.  To better acquaint us with these potential Jagaurs, let's take a quick look at their scouting reports to get an idea of who they are and where they might fit in the roster.  There is a concerning lack of information about some of these players.  If you know anything about them, please feel free to comment and expand our knowledge.  The Jaguars have a reputation for turning undrafted guys into starters, though with our roster depth it's a long shot for any of them to make the team.   Nevada WR Adam Bishop: Smart player known for hard work in film room and ability to recognize holes in zone defense.  Good hands, though small.  Tough blocker that takes that aspect of job very seriously.  Injury prone, missed time with a stress fracture in left leg and repeated hamstri

Jacksonville Jaguars Draft: Expectations vs. Reality
    2008-04-28 23:11:33
There they are, the five selections of the Jacksonville Jaguars 2008 draft.  The class that has the imposing task of taking the team over the hump and to the Super Bowl.  Derrick, Quentin, Thomas, Trae, and Chauncey have the highest of expectations considering the relative lack of companions in their rookie class.  Thomas, Trae, and Chauncey especially. First, let's take a look at what my expectations were for the Jaguars draft and let's see if we did what was necessary. At least one top "10" Defensive End:  The Jaguars, in my opinion, must anchor their pass-rush around at least one defensive end rated in the top 10 at the position.  If they wait until later, the likelihood of getting the impact that the team needs to bring pressure decreases.   I'd say we did that alright.  Rather than get one "top ten" defensive end, we got the third and 5th best ends on the board.  There are some who had Harvey ranked higher than Ghoulston (though I

2008 NFL Draft: Jacksonville Jaguars Select Running Back Chauncey Washington
    2008-04-27 16:26:24
With the Jaguars final pick in the 2008 NFL Draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars selected USC Running Back Chauncey Washington.  Jack Del Rio must feel bad for all the UCLA players he's selected early in previous drafts, so he'll make up for it by taking some depth players late.  Chauncey was part of a fleet of running backs used by USC in the post-Bush era.  In 31 games he started 15 of them, with over 1700 yards, 19 touchdowns, and a 4.8 yards per carry average.  He's a classic "north-south" runner that can get first downs and critical yardage. Jacksonville needs to start thinking about what happens at Running Back after Fred Taylor.  Because of the Derrick Harvey trade, they did not have the third round picks to go after someone like Kevin Smith.  Chauncey, as far as I know, is not the future starting running back, rather he'll be a role guy to build and develop.  While I'm not going to completely hate on the guy, he's described as someone wh

2008 NFL Draft: Jacksonville Selects Thomas Williams, Linebacker, USC
    2008-04-27 13:46:02
With the Dallas Cowboys trading up in the 5th round, the Jaguars now pick at 155.  WIth this as our first pick in the second day of the draft, it's important that we get at least a little value. That said, the Jacksonville Jaguars selected linebacker Thomas Williams  from the University of Southern California.  If anyone knows how to identify a linebacker, its Del Rio.  Our history of finding talented linebackers deep in the draft is well known About Thomas Williams : Never one to complain about his playing time, Williams went about filling any role the coaches asked. In addition to being a stellar performer on the coverage units, the instinctive player started at three different positions, including competing on both sides of the ball as a junior. In 49 games at Southern California, he started at strong-side linebacker for eight games as a sophomore, at fullback for two contests as a junior and as a middle linebacker for four games as a senior. 2008 NFL Draft: Jacksonville Jaguars select Quentin Groves
    2008-04-26 21:42:47
There he is, Quentin Groves, the Jacksonville Jaguars with the 52nd overall pick.  The Jaguars traded a fifth round pick from the 2008 draft and a 2009 7th round pick to move up with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.  Quentin Groves, as I previewed here, is a pass rushing defensive end/outside linebacker hybrid known for his speed on the edge. Jacksonville, in two picks, as made Peyton Manning, Matt Schaub and Vince Young soil themselves as the team who could not bring the heat now as two of the top pass rushers in the draft are now in the Teal and Black.  Sure, it was expensive to get the two of them.  The Jaguars now have two 5th round picks to round out their draft.  While I don't think the move reeks of desperation, the Jaguars must believe that these two players will be home runs.  If any team learned from the New York Giants, it's the Jaguars who can now field a diverse range of defensive linemen, the scrappy Derek Landri, the monster of John Henderson,

2008 NFL Draft: Jacksonville Jaguars select Derrick Harvey
    2008-04-26 15:25:04
In what can only be described as a huge turn of events, the Jacksonville Jaguars selected University of Florida Defensive End Derrick Harvey.  The Jaguars traded their 1st, two 3rd, and a 4th rounder to trade with the Baltimore Ravens. Baltimore needed to go backwards in order to find a quarterback after the Atlanta Falcons selected Matt Ryan with the 3rd pick. One word Wow. I had no idea this was coming. None whatsoever.  The Jaguars, in my opinion, did not have the picks to move up any higher than 17.  Were it not for Matt Ryan going to Atlanta, this series of events would never happen. Matt Miller of New Era Scouting gives this analysis: Harvey was the best defensive end in football during the 2006 season. He wasn't as amazing in 2007, having lost three fellow starters on the line. He's a hard charging rush end, but has strength to stand up against the run. He was our #15 player, but has the potential to be an immediate impact Pro Bowl type pass rusher.

    Jacksonville Jaguars Draft Day 2008
    2008-04-26 08:56:52
Here it is, finally, the 2008 NFL Draft.  In a few short hours all the speculation and nonsense of the pre-draft season comes to a close.  Will Jacksonville find their defensive end?  Will we trade up? Down? For Jason Taylor?  What I want to do here, before they put Mel Kiper Jr. back in his cryogenic chamber, is establish my expectations for the Jaguars as the draft begins.  This will consist of three sections.  The first is a "wish list" of what I'd like to see the Jaguars do this weekend.  It's going to be a little bit over zealous in that I'll expect more than will probably happen, hence the "wish" part.  The second is a run down of draft scenarios for the first three rounds.  Finally, the official Big Cat Country "player interest list", which consists of nearly every player connected in some way to the Jaguars.  I imagine that we won't get near many of these players, but it'll be interesting to compare who we draft with who we

Jacksonville Jaguars: 3rd Best NFL Franchise, 9th Overall
    2008-04-23 16:13:32
In what has always been completely obvious to the fans, the Jacksonville Jaguars were named the 9th "Best Franchise" according to ESPN the Magazine. We were surpassed only by the Green Bay Packers and Indianapolis Colts. Franchises were graded based on value to the fan and quality of the team.  Their Comments: The Jags' one-two punch of price and performance was second to none in the NFL in 2007, kind of like that lethal running back tandem of Maurice Jones-Drew and Fred Taylor. While the Colts edged the Jags in Bang for the Buck (No. 3 vs. No. 4), scoring tickets for Jacksonville Municipal costs just $49.38 (the league's third cheapest), a cool $21 less than average stubs went for in Indy. Now tack on the NFL's second cheapest lids ($9.95) and the fifth cheapest bee/soda/dog combo ($11, tied with the Saints and Rams). So yeah, Jags fans dig not having to dig too deep into their wallets. The club is deeply invested in the men on the field, too. David Garrard, who put to rest a

Jacksonville Jaguars 2008 Schedule: A breakdown
    2008-04-15 16:13:33
A deeper look at the Schedule: Week 1:   AT Jacksonville Jaguars AT Tennessee Titans: Opening day starts just like last season, except it's in Tennessee's home turf.  Last year we looked horrible against the Titans but put together a solid season nonetheless.  Winning our division starts winning on the road, opening the season 1-0 and the division 1-0 is very important.  No room for excuses here, the Jaguars must come out hot. Week 2:   VS Buffalo Bills vs. Jacksonville Jaguars Home opener against a team the Jaguars beat pretty soundly at home last season.  Buffalo's an up and coming team, and it'll be very strange playing against Marcus Stroud, but it's not a reach to assume a win here. Week 3:   AT Jacksonville Jaguars AT Indianapolis Colts The crucible of our September schedule is at Indianapolis.  It's the Jaguars first trip to the new stadium where hopefully the memories of the RCA dome are behind us.  It's unusual for a season de

    Jacksonville Jaguars 2008 Schedule released!
    2008-04-15 14:20:22
Finally, after all the waiting, we get our schedule.  Like I expected, it's a mixed bag of goodies.  No Thanksgiving game, though perhaps the re-tooled Detroit Lions can beat the reviled Titans while I gorge myself on fried turkey and cranberry sauce.  Seriously, how poorly does Vince Young have to perform in order for the NFL to realize he's not worth highlighting.   Three "Prime-Time" games, but only one of the prestigious Sunday night games.  The Jaguars will host the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, October 5th.  That'll be a good one.  The we've got a Monday Night Football game against the Houston Texans on December 1st and we also host Indianapolis on a Thursday night game on december 18th.   Divisional Schedule As expected, we open the season on the road, this time against the Tennessee Titans. Jacksonville HAS to get out to a fast start if they are to have any shot at winning their division, the Jaguars play at Tennessee and at Indianapolis

Jacksonville Jaguars Draft Scenario: First Round Cornerback
    2008-04-11 21:36:33
Cason, on a blitz, making Trent Edwards cry. Our favorite Jaguars.com writer, Vic Ketchman, was recently on Jaguars' This Week and speculated that the best available player when the Jaguars select at 26 may be a cornerback.  He's clearly a little more optimistic than I am because I'm very much concerned that the BAP will be a running back or linebacker, two positions that are less than critical for the Jaguars in the first round. I though it might be interesting to examine where exactly the "experts" predict the top five (or so) cornerbacks will end up.  My methodology is not 100% sound because I don't really account for standard deviation other than by removing outliers, but unless my Political Analysis professor drops by, it shouldn't be a problem.  What I did, in essence, was take about thirty mock drafts, 10 of which were "experts", the other twenty chosen at random.  I removed the highest and lowest outliers and averaged the rest. Jacksonville Jaguars Draft Prospect: Defensive End Tommy Blake

The least you should know about Tommy Blake... Height 6-3 Weight 272lbs 40 Yard Dash 4.78 (TCU Pro Day) 20 Yard Dash 2.72 Bench Reps 23 3 Cone 7.16 Compares To: Dwight Freeney-Indianapolis: Yes, that Dwight Freeney. Both are "smaller" speed ends that some scouts projected as "tweener" or 3-4 outside linebackers. Remember though, the comparisons to Freeney came when Blake's playing weight was closer to 255-260 lbs. At TCU's Pro-Day Blake weighed in at 270, with a goal of losing 12 more pounds over the next four weeks. His TCU Pro-Day performance did impress a few people though: ""He did everything, and he worked hard," Green Bay Packers scout Alonzo Highsmith said. "He did what he needed to do and that is prove he wants to play football at the next level, and that he's serious about it."

Jacksonville Jaguars offer Third Round Pick for Jason Taylor

Trade our first and Third round pick for Jason Taylor and Miami's Second Round pick. We move back six spots on the first day and have two (solid track record) Second Round picks, and get Taylor. Not a bad idea, not bad at all... The Miami Herald is offering up another piece of the Jason Taylor puzzle.  What makes this one different is that it's not their "blog" making the connection, but rather their actual sports section. The Quote: Even the Jaguars -- who appear at this point to be the team with the most interest in Taylor -- are believed to be willing to give up only a third-round pick. Ah reality coming back from a week at sea to the grind of normalcy.  I sincerely apologize for not being more active on here, but like I've said a dozen times, it was just too slow and expensive.  Big thanks to Brian from Buffalo Rumblings for helping me out.  Thankfully it was a quiet few days and nothing of real note happened though there's still a few things that we need to catch up with. Jason Taylor Watch: Day 12 It's been 12 days since I reported that the Jaguars were interested in Jason Taylor.  Since that happened, Jason has come out and said that he wants to stay in Miami.  While I'm glad to hear Jason's wanting to remain with the Dolphins, I still call complete and total BS on any report saying that Taylor's not on the trade block.  Seriously, I won't buy that Jason Taylor remains a Dolphin until he suits up on opening day in the Aquamarine and Orange.   You know what smells really strange is that Taylor and Bill Parcells have not spoken

Jacksonville Jaguars Re-Sign Guard Maurice Williams!
    2008-03-06 12:05:20
From Jaguars.com: The Jaguars have re-signed offensive lineman Maurice Williams, effectively addressing the void at right guard that would've occurred had Williams signed with another team in free agency. Whew, that was close.  I though we were going to be a bit too thin on the Offensive Line after cutting Chris Naeole and possibly losing Mo Williams to free agency.  Instead we'll keep the multi-position guy and shore up our Right Guard spot while being able to fill in at tackle as well, just in case. Now, if you combine the Jason Taylor speculation with this signing you get the Jaguars in a fantastic position to draft the best available player in the first round, almost no matter what.  If it's an offensive lineman, we need the depth.  If it's a defensive end, we can use that too. If it's a Defensive Tackle, the more big guys the merrier.  As long as it's not a Wide Receiver, we're set. Retaining Maurice Williams continues the "Best Off-Season EVER" trend, le

Brett Favre Press Conference:Just in case you're interested...Click here to see Favre's press conference streamed live. What do we know? The Jaguars Will Not resign DT Grady Jackson.  This must mean that the Jaguars are happy with what they have at Defensive Tackle and feel that they don't need him as a backup big guy.  I liked the way he played in Jacksonville, and I loved how small his jersey numbers looked on him.  I'm going to take a leap of faith and assume that there's a reason why the team wouldn't keep him around.  If not, there's gonna be hell to pay.   Jacksonville made three HUGE signings on Wednesday.  By huge, I mean huge camp fodder at best.  OT Pete McMahon, OT Ryan Gibbons and Long Snapper Brett Goode were all signed by the Jaguars.  All three have been with the team before, all three have been cut by the team before.  There's no r

Jacksonville Jaguars Free Agent Update: Tuesday Edition
    2008-03-04 00:02:26
What have we accomplished?: Today, as expected, was a slow day as far as signings.  Jacksonville did extend an offer to Bears Defensive Tackle Jimmy Kennedy, but a very small one ($755,000, $50K signing bonus).  Chicago will have seven days to match or the Jaguars get the player.  Two points: One, how crazy is it that three quarters of a million dollars in salary is considered "very small", and two, Kennedy is a depth signing, possibly even a camp body.  I don't regard this as a signing of note. The release of Chris Naeole was interesting but not surprising.  Jacksonville is going to have to do a pretty significant amount of work on the offensive and defensive line, but holding onto a player that is pretty badly hurt isn't going to help us. Jacksonville Jaguars release OG Chris Naeole
    2008-03-03 16:33:58
In what could be a surprise move, the Jacksonville Jaguars released Guard Chris Naeole.  I say it "could be" a surprise move, but astute readers might remember what I wrote from the combine:I'm told that the team is very worried about the health of Chris Naeole.  So much in fact that a guy like Reyes ges retained.  It also explains the amount of time the Jaguars have spent with offensive linemen at the Senior Bowl/Combine. Since Chris was released, I can expand upon this a little further.  I spoke with a trusted team source at the combine about the state of a some of the injured Jaguars.  Surprisingly, I was told that the team was far more worried about the recovery of Chris Naeole than Marcus Stroud or Reggie Hayward.  This move makes complete sense when you consider that the draft is fairly well stocked with offensive linemen, and that the Jaguars have taken a close look some at the combine. They've even gone to Toledo to look at Offensive Guard/Tackle J

A quiet Sunday as far as free agency goes, though I have learned a few interesting tidbits. Fantastic Commenter NASF Confirmed that the Jaguars did make a play for Randy Moss  .  I'm glad to know that they were aggressive, but also relieved that Randy won't be a Jaguar.  The Jaguars were in play for Safety Gibril Wilson.  The Jaguars were willing to go up to 12 million dollars up front and something like 5 million per year, but Wilson wanted more.  He's off to Oakland where he gets to be on a non-contender for the next six years.  Sometimes I wonder if it's SO about the money that  players will sacrifice winning for the dollar.  Then again, Gibril already has a ring, why not get paid. The Jaguars were also in play for new 49er Justin Smith, but the team was smart enough not to pay Dwight Freeney and Bob Sanders money for guys who just arn't those type of players.  No sense in manufacturing a player who's just not going to live up to that t

Update [2008-3-2 11:39:23 by River City Rage]:: Offensive Tackle Kwame Harris is visiting the team today. To say this guy has struggled in San Francisco is a massive understatement. He's another former first round pick (2003, pick 26) that will be a reclamation project. The Jaguars usually sign people that visit, so I guess expect something to happen. Day three of Free Agency just began and I can say without much doubt that the Jaguars have to be close to finished with their "big" signings. What have we accomplished?: Wide Receiver has a leader in Jerry Porter, and a depth in competition has been found in Troy Williamson.  The Jaguars have not been this stacked at Wide Receiver since Keenan McCardell and Jimmy Smith roamed the sidelines. Oh, if you're one of the folks who think we paid too much, the 10 million we spent on Porter is entirely reasonable when compared to the 16 million for a Bernard Berrian. Cleo Lemon becomes the number 2 quarterback.  Quinn Gray i

Jacksonville Jaguars Free Agent Update: Saturday Edition
    2008-03-01 00:57:07
What do we know? Day one of Free Agency is behind us and things are already becoming more clear for the Jaguars.  First off, we've found our number one receiver in Jerry Porter and we've backed up David Garrard with Cleo Lemon.  Two big needs addressed in the first day, not too shabby. There were some losses as well.  Safety Gibril Wilson, who I was absolutely convinced that the team would sign took the big money out of the Oakland Raiders.  16 million in guaranteed money, six million more than Porter received from the Jaguars.  Un-Real.  The Raiders are filling the void that the Redskins usually occupy with giant contracts for middle grade players. So far the Jaguars are 2 for 2 on visits.  This seems to be pretty normal for the front office as we don't like to see players leave.  Keep that in mind. Who is our next signing: It's going to be Cornerback Drayton Florence, formerly  of the San Diego Chargers.  I reported this earlier and t

Jacksonville Jaguars sign Jerry Porter (Updated)
    2008-02-29 15:22:27
NFL Network's Adam Schefter is reporting that Wide Receiver Jerry Porter is now a Jacksonville Jaguar after signing a 6 year 30 million dollar contract with 10 million in guaranteed money. And there you go, the Front Office made a move at receiver, finally.  To be honest, Porter wasn't on my radar as a guy we'd go after, but it looks like the Jaguars were trying to buy a talented player that because of his recent history would be a little cheaper than the top tier guys.Jack Del Rio: On Jerry Porter: “We’re excited to have added Troy Williamson in a trade and Jerry Porter in the start of free agency here,” said Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio about today’s transactions. “I’m very excited about adding Jerry. I think he’s an outstanding football player. There were a couple guys that we thought we would take an opportunity at in free agency and he was at the top of the list for us. I really think it was a great fit for us. He’s an explosive player. He’s had some big years. W

    Jacksonville Jaguars sign Cleo Lemon!
    2008-02-29 11:34:10
It's official: Cleo Lemon decided to stay in the Sunshine State (Really, who wouldn't) and is now the backup quarterback for the Jacksonville Jaguars. His contract is reportedly a 3 year deal, total value of 8.1 million dollars, 2.95 Million signing bonus and 4 million in (hopefully never earned) incentives. That's good to get QB addressed quickly.  We'll have a competent backup in place and avoided paying stupid big money for the service. Also, I'm told Jerry Porter has a deal in place. -Chris

Jacksonville Jaguars Free Agent Update: Friday Edition
    2008-02-29 02:08:45
Update [2008-2-29 12:14:14 by River City Rage]:: Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that the Minnesota Vikings have worked out an agreement with free-agent safety Madieu Williams. The deal for Madieu is six years, $34 million. So we'll be looking elsewhere for help in the defensive secondary... What do we know: It's almost 4:00 am EST and the start of Free Agency is already taking shape.  We are starting to get a better picture of how the market will play out and what happens during the day on Friday should clarify things further. Here's what we know: Former Oakland Wide Receiver Jerry Porter will visit with the Jaguars on Friday.  It's also reported that an agreement may already be in place for Porter.  Tampering, shampering.  Jerry would be as close to a number one receiver as we've had since Jimmy Smith retired.  Jacksonville would also be sitting on quite a large amount of recievers, with Porter, Williams, Jones, Broussard, Walker, Williamson,

Free Agent Open Thread: Jerry Porter and Cleo Lemon to visit Jacksonville
    2008-02-29 00:29:14
[editor's note, by River City Rage]: Wow, the more I hear the more I realize how WRONG I've been about everything... Wide Receiver Jerry Porter is visiting Jacksonville tomorrow According to Alex Marvez of Fox News. Others speculate that an agreement may have already been reached with Porter. Pay attention to this one. Quarterback Cleo Lemon is visiting Jacksonville as well. I'm also hearing that the Jaguars are making a run on Bengals Safety Madieu Williams. For the record, I've been wrong so far on everyone.  More to come as I hear it! -Chris

Jacksonville Jaguars acquire Troy Williamson: Good Deal or Bad Deal?
    2008-02-25 23:40:48
Look, he caught that one! In what can only be described as an "eh..." move, the Jacksonville Jaguars preemptively began the 2008 off-season as word leaked about a trade with the Minnesota Vikings.  The Jaguars, for better or for worse, have traded their 6th round pick in the 2008 NFL Draft for Troy Williamson.   Troy is a former first round pick (7th overall) from the University of South Carolina.  Coincidentally, coming from the real USC might be the only thing I like about this trade.  Ok, I'm not going to be that unfair to the guy.  There has to be something of value there. First off, he's fast.  How fast?  He ran a 4.32 forty back in 2005.  That kind of speed would be simply fantastic, if he could prove some sort of consistency in catching the ball. Of course, that's what everyone is going to say about this trade.  That we got a guy who can't catch the ball.  And that's fine, it looks like a fair cri

Jacksonville Jaguars trade for Troy Williamson:
    2008-02-25 20:06:24
Update [2008-2-25 21:15:58 by River City Rage]: I forgot to let you know that The Daily Norseman also confirms that the Vikings have a trade in place, with more to come. BREAKING:  The Jacksonville Jaguars, according to TwinCities.com and reported by Pro Football Talk say that the Jacksonville Jaguars have come to an agreement in principal to trade a second day draft pick for Wide Receiver Troy Williamson. Troy, as we all know, has a terrible reputation for dropped balls.  I talked with (sadly unnameable) source at the Combine who said the Jaguars were dangerously close to making a "big move" for a young WR. I guess this is the move.  And I'm really not so sure how excited I am about it.  Clearly we'll have more to talk about as the story develops. I'd also say that more moves are yet to come, as my inside source said we'd be big players at WR.  One move does not a big player make. -Chris

Jacksonville Jaguars Signings: Angulo, Bourman, Davis!
    2008-02-25 15:54:37
Finally, after an eternity of focusing on rumors and speculation, we've got some actual Jaguars Player Signings to report. Four players were signed today, though I reported Tutan Reyes had agreed to a contract a few days ago.   I rule.  Each tells us a little more about the state of the Jaguars as we get ever so close to the opening of Free Agency.  Yeah, that's right, only 4 days remain till the money madness starts.  Considerimg the amount of tampering that's going on at the Combine, I can assure you that things will happen pretty quickly. The signings are: Tight End Richard Angulo: Great sign as the guy jumped right in when he was signed in late November after the Great Tight End Bloodletting.  Angulo only had 81 yards and a TE, but it was enough out of a fill in guy like him.  I'd assume he's insurance in case George Wrighster or Greg Estandia can't return. Quarterback Tood Bourman: Quinn Gray Will Not be a Jaguar.  I know this for a fact.

Jacksonville Jaguars Re-sign Guard Tutan Reyes
    2008-02-22 11:37:11
In non-combine news, the Jaguars have re-signed backup offensive guard Tutan Reyes to a one year contract.  Reyes did not play in any games last season and is purely a reserve player.  With the Greg Jones signing, it leaves 10 unrestricted free agents for the Jaguars as we approach February 29th.   Those Free Agents include: Terry Cousin, Aaron Glenn, Quinn Gray, Grady Jackson, Sammy Knight, Bye Bye Bobby McCray, Stockar McDougle, Shantee Orr, LaBrandon Toefield, and Ernest Wilford. -Chris

Addiction Treatment for Orlando and Jacksonville, Florida
    2008-01-10 11:55:44
Orlando, Florida certainly was an interesting place to live with all the amusement attractions and clubs to frequent. Unfortunately, with all this excitement came lots of alcohol and with the alcohol came the crystal meth. After some time, although I denied it, I was suffering from an addiction to both. It wasn’t until I received my second DUI and fell down some steps and cut my forehead, that my partner insisted I get into addiction treatment in Orlando. With great hesitance, I began to research Orlando addiction treatment which could treat a gay man and wanted to treat a gay man. Addiction treatment in Orlando, Florida was really limited and especially so regarding the LGBT. I later stumbled on addiction treatment in Jacksonville, Florida for the LGBT. I was excited and scared at the same time. I would be away from my partner, I didn’t know Jacksonville, Florida and was scared what life would be like without crystal meth and alcohol. I was excited because I was going to an addiction treatment program that understood me. After a few days, I finially left Orlando and headed to Jacksonville. When I arrived at Freedom Rings I felt really welcome. This addiction treatment program was much nicer than the others in Orlando. I have to admit that it has only been four weeks since addiction treatment ended, I still think about alcohol and crystal, but I am committed to staying clean and sober. thank you to Freedom Rings and the addiction treatment staff.  Bookmark to:

We survived the Steelers only to jump right back into the gauntlet in the second round of the playoffs. I'm overjoyed to get the "no playoff win since 1999" monkey off our back, but there's little time to enjoy it considering who we're going to play. We'll have a busy week here, especially now that I'm done travelling!-Chris

Jacksonville Jaguars DEFEAT Pittsburgh Steelers 31-29
    2008-01-05 22:44:26
JAGS WIN!  JAGS WIN! In what had to be the most difficult 4th quarter of Football I've ever seen, our Jaguars have won.  They survived what was very nearly a hopeless situation, the Steelers score 19 points in the 4th quarter, and the Jaguars were on their heels. But then David Garrard epitomized the entire Jaguars season in one play, going for 32 yards on 4th and 2 and set the Jaguars up for the win. Un. Real. Game Winning Field Goal by Scobee gives us another week! I'm gonna process the win a bit, I think Freek1969 is gonna help out with the post game commentary! What a game! GO JAGUARS!! -Chris

Buffalo Bills at Jacksonville Jaguars: Open Game Thread

14 at 29 LIVE, Fourth Quarter Big Cat Country :: Game Preview Update [2007-11-25 15:59:32 by Brian Galliford]: Buffalo's offense has two opportunities to tie the score but fall short twice; then their Cover-2 defense is exploited for a long, back-breaking touchdown reception by Reggie Williams. Game, set, match. Update [2007-11-25 15:33:3 by Brian Galliford]: Luckily for the Bills, Matt Jones puts as much effort into a fade route as our defense has put to stopping Fred Taylor today. We hold the Jags to a field goal, and it's still a one score game with plenty of time remaining. Update [2007-11-25 15:28:11 by Brian Galliford]: End of the third quarter, and the Jags have used two long pass completions to move deep into Bills territory. The pressure is on big-time for a defense that hasn't played well today. Update [2007-11-25 15:20:1 by Brian Galliford]: Touchdown Bills!
