Italy in Jeopardy After Being Routed by the Dutch
    2008-06-11 20:30:00
The Dutch certainly made the first surprise of the European Championship a stunner. The Netherlands handed Italy, the defending World Cup champion, its worst loss in European tournament history, a 3-0 rout Monday in Bern, Switzerland, that left the Italians in danger of elimination in the first round.Ruud van Nistelrooy and Wesley Sneijder scored in the first half, and the standout defender Giovanni van Bronckhorst added the third goal on a counterattack in the 79th minute.“It was a historic feat,” Netherlands Coach Marco van Basten said. “This was Italy, the world champion. I cannot name one player who played poorly.”Italy’s once-proud defense looked old and slow. Van Nistelrooy tore through at will. With the injured captain Fabio Cannavaro sitting on the bench, Marco Materazzi and Andrea Barzagli were picked apart by the Dutch attack.“It was one of the ugliest games in the last 12 years,” goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon said. “In the name of the entire team, I think I have

lasik:Giant Eye Pupils Could Put Your Laser Eye Surgery In Jeopardy.
    2008-05-25 05:57:00
Did you ever think that having giant pupils could disqualify you from being eligible for laser eye surgery? Well they might. The pupil is the opening or hole in the center of the iris that admits light. It's size changes in direct response to changes in lighting. In bright light conditions, the pupil gets smaller. In poor light conditions, or when it's dark, the pupil dilates or gets larger. Many people with larger than normal pupils are not even aware of it. If you are highly sensitive to bright lights, this is a good sign that your pupils may be larger than normal. However, it could also be the case that your enlarged pupil is the result of drug or medication interactions with your body. In this case, the condition is most likely temporary and your pupil under normal conditions could very well be normal in size.[ lasik , eye , surgery ]It's important to recognize the fact that the size of left and right pupils are not necessarily the same. Having said that, under normal lighting condit

Let's play Hudson Line Mets Jeopardy
    2008-05-15 22:48:00
The answer is: This team today had a pitcher go out and throw 7 2/3 innings of hitless baseball, and wound up losing the game. The question: What is the New York Mets. They found yet another extremely frustrating way to lose today. Mike Pelfrey pitched the game of his career today, getting two outs in the 8th inning before giving up a hit to the Washington Nationals. He would go on to give up a run.And the Mets lost, 1-0, to drop three of four to the Washington Nationals. That's right. The Washington Nationals.Meanwhile, the Yankees are coming off another loss to Tampa, and they, too, lost three of four. Can you even begin to imagine with the Subway Series is going to be like tomorrow? And the entire weekend? One thing's for sure — either the Mets or Yanks will come out of the weekend a little better than they were this week. But folks, let's face it — this Mets team is just not responding to Willie Randolph. It's time to go to Japan and convince Bobby Valentine to come back. The patien

Childhood Cancer Funding of NF Research in Jeopardy [Highlight HEALTH]
    2008-03-31 13:59:58
Neurofibromatosis (NF) is a set of genetic disorders that can cause tumors to develop and grow along various types of nerves. The tumors may also affect the development of non-nervous system tissues such as skin and bone. There are three types of NF tumors that result from mutation or loss of different tumor suppressor genes: Neurofibromatosis [...]

Red Sox Japan Trip in Jeopardy
    2008-03-19 11:39:00
The Red Sox were scheduled to leave for Japan after today's game with the Blue Jays, but the word came out today that the players will boycott the trip and not get on the plane today (as well as not play the final game in Florida against Toronto) unless the coaches and training staff, who are also making the journey, are also compensated as the players are. Each player is getting $40,000 for the games over there, but apparently MLB reneged on an agreement back in November that the coaches would also get a stipend for it as well. It is my understanding that the two other times MLB teams made trips over to Japan (Mets-Cubs in 2000 and Yankees-Rays in 2004), the coaches and training staffs were compensated.Terry Francona found out about it yesterday, and the players likewise found out and held a vote and right now will not play today or get on a plane later today. I also heard that the Oakland A's, who will play the Sox in Tokyo, are watching what happens today in Ft. Myers and may also bo

Public dental plan in jeopardy in Quebec
    2008-02-26 08:35:00
Many Quebec parents could soon be in for some tough dental choices - pay out of pocket for what used to be subsidized care for their children or scrap the visits altogether. A majority of Quebec dentists are threatening to opt out of the provincial health insurance plan in a month if they don't get a better deal from the government. Currently, children under the age of 10 and adults on social

When credit cards put you in jeopardy
    2008-02-25 09:43:00
Consumers have racked up more than $2.2 trillion in purchases and cash advances on major credit cards in just the last year. And it's become a habit for them to spend more than they have. The overall credit card debt grew by 315 percent from 1989 to 2006, according to public policy research firm Demos. To compound the problem, fewer people are paying their credit cards bills on time. The percentage of people delinquent on their credit cards is the highest it's been in three years, accordi

    Bush's Legacy in Jeopardy...
    2007-07-17 10:17:00
Senator Voinovich, R-OhioLittle George's legacy being in jeopardy is not news. We've known this for some time now, we haven't needed soothsayers to predict that for us. Personally I don't see how it can be salvaged with all that has gone on...been done...with more spin to come. Rove must be sweating bullets trying to come up with some sort of way out of this tangled web he has woven. He may find himself on a stage one day as the skull that Hamlet holds forth as poor Yoric. This may be their summer of discontent...in spades. It seems Voinovich has conversed with the Rovemeister and given a dire warning. Georgie needs to develop a workable plan to withdraw the troops from Iraq as a beginning salvage of is historical presidential legacy. It's the impossible dream by now. The Man from La Mancha cannot tilt at windmills anymore...so what makes people think there's any possibility that George could save a slice of good history for himself. I just don't think so plain and simple. The WH

    Today’s Rangers/Tigers Game In Jeopardy?
    2007-06-27 20:01:36
As of 1:00 PM CST, there’s several large bands of severe thunderstorms moving through southeastern Michigan, including Detroit. Here’s a radar capture as of 12:50 PM: Today’s Rangers/Tigers game was due to start at 12:05 PM. These storms are moving relatively slowly at only 25 MPH, and while there will be a short break after this first band of storms moves through, the second band looks much more nasty. Right now, I think we’re looking at a best case scenario of a 2:30 start, and I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t get this game in. You also have to keep in mind that after the storms pass, it’ll take at least 10 to 15 minutes for the groundscrew to prepare the field for play. UPDATE: Today’s Rangers/Tigers game has been postponed and rescheduled as part of a day-night doubleheader on September 11th. I hate to see a rainout and the possibility of it breaking the Rangers’ momentum, but then again, I thought Sunday’s

Jeopardy: I'll take ED Recovery for $1,000
    2007-06-15 07:25:00
Eating Disorder Recovery: It’s an ambiguous term and after internet cruising for the answer, I felt some motion sickness from being tossed and turned from one professional opinion to the other. Agreement doesn’t seem to flow through the medical community that easily. And, I’m a bit tired of the age old answer I’ve heard from the treatment community, “Recovery is whatever you want it to be. You need to look within for the answer.” Or the ever popular, “I can’t define that for you. You need to learn to come to your own conclusions about what it is.”I reply to this with, “Right. I see. I know I need to work on making my own decisions without looking for external validation, however, if I’m here because I’m in recovery could you afford me some perspective?”The response I’ve received to this question is a blank stare and some nodding and we’re back into the uncomfortable silence of a blind date gone wrong. And, if I hear one more treatment professional tell me t

    American 1500m Record in Jeopardy?
    2007-06-06 18:40:00
Is Mary Decker's nearly 24 year old American 1500m record of 3:57.12 in jeopardy at the Pre Classic this Saturday? If it were up to Treniere Clement and Shayne Culpepper, it would be. Right now, though, both are more worried about how they're going to beat Yuliya Chizhenko-Fomenko of Russia and Gelete Burka of Ethiopia. Chizhenko-Fomenko's PB of 3:55.68 is going to be tough to top in this early-season race, but she's certainly capable of running sub 4 and is expected to do so.Culpepper got outkicked by Kenia Sinclair at the adidas Track Classic on May 21st while setting a PB of 4:05.98. She looked like she was straining a little in last week's 3rd place run at the Reebok Grand Prix, running a 4:08.07. Could it be that she had been training hard that week and just didn't have anything left in the tank? She'll certainly need to fill her tank by this Saturday. As for Clement, she ran a strong 800m at Reebok with a time 1:59.07. Her PB in the metric mile is 4:03.32 whixh she ran in R

Cubs Pipeline to Venezuela in Jeopardy?
    2007-05-31 21:00:43
Luis Aparicio. Dave Concepcion. Manny Trillo. Ozzie Guillen. Magglio Ordonez. Bobby Abreu. Omar Vizquel. Carlos Zambrano. Miguel Cabrera. Ramon Hernandez. Johan Santana. Francisco “K-Rod” Rodriguez. Victor Martinez. Melvin Mora. Felix Hernandez. Jose Lopez.   Just a few of the many past and present MLB stars from Venezuela. On Opening Day 2007, there were 51 players from Venezuela on MLB 25-man rosters, with many more Venezuelans playing in the minor leagues.  Since 1999, the number of Venezuelans playing in MLB has doubled.  Last July, the Cubs gave 16-year old Venezuelan RHP Larry Suarez (currently at EXST at Fitch Park) a reported $850K signing bonus (an amount equivalent to “2nd round money”). Flower Bouquets at Seattle Pike Market in Jeopardy
    2006-11-30 07:00:00
Press Release Visitors to Pike Place Market are surrounded by a colorful wonderland of blooms and bouquets each year. The flowers sold at Pike Market are produced by the local Hmong Community, their Flower Farmers. These hardy farmers emigrated from the mountains of with their large families. Record breaking rains this November flooded their farmlands. Bulbs targeted for spring bouquets were planted just weeks before the floods and without an established root system, the raging waters washed them away. Estimated loss is $3,000 to $45,000 per farm. The Flower Farmers have no insurance and are left with nothing after the floods. Can you imagine Pike Market without flower bouquets?...
