Baghdad Jews Have Become a Fearful Few
    2008-05-31 22:20:48
By STEPHEN FARRELL : BAGHDAD — “I have no future here to stay.” Written in broken English but with perfect clarity, the message is a stark and plaintive assessment from one of the last Jews of Babylon. The community of Jews in Baghdad is now all but vanished in a land where their heritage recedes back to [...]

    Jews celebrate in Morocco
    2008-05-27 05:19:00
Jewish pilgrims from around the world gathered in several Moroccan cities to celebrate the Hiloula of rabbis, a religious and charitable custom, based on the Sephardic tradition of making auction bids for ornate candles believed to help strengthen the soul.In the coastal city of Essaouira (442km south of Rabat), hundreds gathered on Friday to celebrate the hiloula of rabbi Nessim Ben Nessim. A reception ceremony was organized on Sunday, last day of the festival, attended by the King’s advisor, André Azoulay, himself a Moroccan Jew.During this ceremony the pilgrims underlined the strong bonds uniting them to Morocco which they described as a country of openness and tolerance and their attachment to the Alaouite throne (dynasty of king Mohammed VI). In the city of Settat (160 south of Rabat), members of the Jewish community celebrated the hiloula in the mausoleum of rabbi Abraham Aouriour. The festival opened on Thursday and was marked by the organization on Sunday of a recepti

Iraqi Author 'Aref 'Alwan: The Jews Have an Historic Right to Palestine
    2008-04-16 13:16:00
'Alwan called on the Arab world to acknowledge the Jews' right to Palestine, because justice demanded it and also because doing so would end the violence and the killing of Arabs, as well as intra-Arab strife. He added that such a move would also open up new avenues for the Arab world that would be more consistent with the values and needs of modern society.'Alwan writes that the Arab League is to blame for the refusal to recognize the 1947 U.N. partition plan, for starting a war to prevent its implementation, and for the results of that war, which the Arabs call the Nakba (disaster). He points an accusing finger at the Arab regimes, the Arab League, and the educated circles in the Arab world, saying that they had all used the term "nakba" to direct popular consciousness toward a cultural tradition that neither accepts the other side nor recognizes its rights - thereby promoting bigotry, violence and extremism. He also claims that there have been attempts to rewrite Palestinian history

In Palestine, Murder Will Bring Neither Freedom Nor Justice | Muslims and Jews denounce seminary killing
    2008-03-07 23:53:06
mindless violence continues. skewed media report continues. endless killing of civilians continue. the victims at the Seminary was aged 15 to 26. all people of conscience condemns such act of violence.1.Ibrahim Abdil-Mu’id Ramey, Muslim American Society (MAS) Freedom Civil and Human Rights Director writes: On March 6, 2008, the world received news of yet another tragedy in the ongoing conflict between the Palestinians and Israelis. In an apparent act of revenge, armed Palestinians infiltrated a Rabbinical school in Jerusalem and attacked a group of teenage Jewish students, leaving eight of them dead. They were not combatants, and the act did not take place in self-defense or in the heat of combat. Most of the world, especially in Israel, was stunned and horrified by the killings. But in Gaza, at least according to news reports, people were jubilant in their celebration of the deaths.Sadly, acts of deliberate murder are hardly rare in the context of this part of the world. I remember,

Kosovo: First they came for the Jews?
    2008-02-23 14:39:00
There are some 50 Jews left in Kosovo. Belonging to three families, or clans, they all live in the city of Prizren, a rare gem of ancient architecture amid a landscape devastated by war, poverty and Communist-era concrete."There was not anti-Semitism in the past, but with the Saudi charities here now we are seeing a Wahabi influence for the first time," Demiri said, referring to the fundamentalist Islamic ideology Saudi Arabian clerics have tried to export, with little success, in the Balkans. "I think the newspapers these days are not portraying Jews in such a positive light.""Our spiritual life, like our economic life, is a disaster," Demiri said, pointing to his rotting roof. His children, it seems, are preparing for an eventual move to Israel. Read more...

    Palestinians and Jews: A Solution?
    2008-02-14 01:55:00
The conflict between Jews and Arabs over Palestine arose soon after Russian Jews began to immigrate into Palestine in 1882. No solution acceptable to both sides is yet in sight, but it is possible to identify the least unsatisfactory solution by a process of elimination.A solution that still has adherents is a binational, democratic, secular Palestinian State with an Arab majority and a large Jewish minority. It was rejected at the Biltmore Conference in May 1942, in which Zionist and non-Zionist organizations participated. The great majority voted for the Biltmore Program, which aimed at establishing a Jewish State in Palestine. A binational State was never a realistic option.

The "Naw, Man, I'm Jiggy With The Jews" Offensive
    2007-12-26 13:03:00
In an exclusive interview with The Offended Blogger, Will Smith released this statement today: .....The former Fresh Prince of Bel-Air was criticized by the Jewish Defense League for a statement he made when he said, "Even Hitler didn't wake up going, 'let me do the most evil thing I can do today.' I think he woke up in the morning and using a twisted, backward logic, he set out to do what he

Muslim helps Jews attacked on New York subway
    2007-12-13 06:51:43
NEW YORK (PE) -- A Muslim man jumped to the aid of three Jewish subway riders after they were attacked by a group of young people who objected to one of the Jews saying "Happy Hanukkah," a spokeswoman for the three said Wednesday. Friday's altercation on the Q train began when somebody yelled out "Merry Christmas," to which rider Walter Adler responded, "Happy Hanukkah," said Toba Hellerstein. "Almost immediately, you see the look in this guy's face like I've called his mother something," Adler told the News affiliate at WABC. Two women who were with a group of 10 rowdy people then began to verbally assault Adler's companions with anti-Semitic language, Hellerstein said. One member of the group allegedly yelled, "Oh, Hanukkah. That's the day that the Jews killed Jesus," she said. When Adler tried to intercede, a male member of the group punched him, she said. Another passenger, Hassan Askari -- a Muslim student from Banglades

The Incredible Story of the Protection of the Bulgarian Jews-Mostly Truth!
    2007-11-18 09:02:00
Summary of the eRumor: The eRumor says that all 50,000 Jews in Bulgaria, whose government sided with the Nazis during World War II, were saved from Nazi death camps. It tells how it happened and also says that one of the most famous immigrants from Bulgaria to Israel was a young graduate of the Bulgarian Military Academy who in Israel changed his name to Moshe Dayan. The Truth: The story about the salvation of Bulgaria's Jews is true but this particular version of the story has some factual problems. The information about the famous Israeli military leader Moshe Dayan is not correct. He was not from Bulgaria. He was born on a kibbutz in Israel and his parents were immigrants from Ukraine. Also, the book that is referenced in the story is titled Beyond Hitler's grasp: The Heroic Rescue of Bulgaria's Jews and was written by Michael Bar-Zohar (Not Michael Bar Oar). According to Bar-Zohar, the Bulgarian government came along side of Hitler early in the war because King Boris III hoped it would help him reclaim the lost lands of Greece and Romania. Hitler demanded that Bulgaria deport its Jews but a combination of forces in Bulgaria prevented that from happening and, according to Bar-Zohar, the Bulgarian Jews were the only Jewish population under the Nazis to actually increase during World War II. The story of the saving of the Bulgarian Jews is not a new one but there has not been agreement of what the role of King Boris III was. Government documents about the Jews were sealed after World War II by the Communist government. But Bar-Zohar was able to search the now opened archives and to interview Bulgarian survivors. He says that the King did play a role along with politician

    Opportunities Beckoning Jews to Vietnam
    2007-10-02 11:27:00
With money he raised from West Germany, Kot built health stations in dozens of villages. He married a Vietnamese woman with whom hes raising a son. In 1994, when the government began promoting private health care, Kot opened up Family Medical Practice, now a bustling $8 million enterprise with offices in Hanoi, Danang and Ho Chi Minh City. Kot is one of a small but growing number of Jews in this southeast Asian nation. While 20 years ago there were practically no Jews living in Vietnam, the countrys growing economy has helped generate a Jewish presence in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

No Jews in State Department program, no Jewish bullets in Iraq, Afghanistan
    2007-09-29 20:49:00
As desperate as State is for translators, that won't hire Jews that speak Arabic. (YidwithLid, via Tomorrow War.)According to Israel National News. The US State Department was funding a business training course for middle east residents, run by the University of California (no surprise there). This program was initially open to citizens of "Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Israel (limited to Israeli Arab citizens), Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Morocco, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, the United Arab Emirates, West Bank/Gaza and Yemen."On the other hand:"Israeli-made bullets bought by the U.S. Army to plug a shortfall should be used for training only, not to fight Muslim guerrillas in Iraq and Afghanistan, U.S. lawmakers told Army generals on Thursday."(Useful Fools, via Tomorrow War.)

Demon in the Box: Jews, Arabs, Politics, and Culture in the Making of Israeli Television
    2007-07-28 19:15:00
Author: Tasha G. OrenPaperback: 220 pagesPublisher: Rutgers University Press (July 2004)Language: EnglishISBN: 0813534194What does a country’s television programming say about its deep character, beliefs, dreams, and fears? In Demon in the Box, Tasha G. Oren recounts the volatile history of Israeli television and thereby reveals the history of the nation itself. Initially rejected as a corrupting influence on "the people of the book," television became the object of fantasies and anxieties that went to the heart of Israel’s most pressing concerns: Arab-Israeli relations, immigration, and the forging of a modern Israeli culture. Television broadcasting was aimed toward external relations—the flow of messages across borders, Arab-Israeli conflict, and the shaping of public opinion worldwide—as much as it was toward internal needs and interests. Through archival research and analysis of public scandals and early programs, Oren traces Israeli television’s tr

They state: “We’ll show the world we can do the best, sharpest, most offensive Jew hating cartoons ever published!” said Sandy “No Iranian will beat us on our home turf!”We like the idea.
