| Three bidders jockey for north-east Indian air rights | | 2008-07-03 04:24:00 | | INDIA: Up to three airlines are bidding for the right to operate a dedicated regional airline for India's north-eastern states, the Press Trust of India reports. One of the bidding airlines is state-run Alliance Air (now renamed Air India Regional after its merger into Air India), the other two are Universal Empire and Ace Airlines . "Three airlines have participated in the tender for the regional airline," Minister for Development for North-Eastern Region Mani Shankar Aiyer told the PTI. The government wants the airline to use Guwahati as its hub and serve 11 regional airports currently operational in the region, including Dibrugarh, Tezpur, Jorhat, Silchar, Dimapur, Imphal, Agartala, Aizawal and Bagdogra. In return, the winning airline will be eligible to receive government subsidies from the North Eastern Council, which wants a regional air service operational by the end of this year. Comenzó a gritar como una gallina “Me quiero bajar!”, no previendo que con ello contribuía aún más a desbocar al cuadrúpedo. La suerte de Ferrante dependía de un milagro. Apenas podía sostenerse sobre su corcel.Pero, no obstante, y aún muerto de miedo como estaba, nuestro héroe sacó fuerzas de donde no había. Solo el destino podría dar cuenta de lo que le esperaba a Demian.En la caballeriza, como si nada ocurriera, Demian continuaba vareando a su caballo, un corcel caoba precioso, con el que ya se entendía por señas. En parte, una más de las tantas elecciones desacertadas del Peruano Dorado. Y aclaramos “en parte”, porque no todos fueron desaciertos…No obstante vivir apremiado por las deudas -todo su capital, como de costumbre-, el apolíneo y atlético cuerpo de Ferrante Kramer solía abrirle puertas allí, donde a otros se les cerraban; aquel frío domingo de invierno, en las afueras de Kentucky, más precisamente en el hipódromo de Ellis Park, la figura esbelta y grácil de Demian fue percibida por uno de los magnates del turf estadounidense de los años 60: Lester E. Yeager.El peruano, con menos de 30 años, pelo largo como se usaba por aquel entonces, y una sonrisa que cautivó al legendario pope del turf de inmediato, despertó en el empresario ese “don” tan característico en los hombres de negocios de “descubrir” nuevas estrellas, de desafiar con su instinto cualquier elucubración racional o científica, señalando con su varita mágica a quienes serán los famosos del mañana. Obviamente, Yeager se equivocó con Ferrante, al menos en parte. Y volvemos a reiterar, “en parte”, porque no se puede afirmar que Demian no haya tenido sus 15 minutos de gloria.Al pasar, mientras Demian mendigaba en la entrada del hipódromo, Lester se percató de que tenía delante a alguien diferente. ¿Un elegido?...
