    2008-03-02 17:20:17
Unheralded New Zealander Mark Brown surged up the leaderboard with a stunning back nine to capture the Johnnie Walker Classic title on Sunday.Brown, who was four shots behind at the turn, fired four consecutive birdies and another at the last to reel in Taichiro Kiyata as the overnight leader faltered, winning by three shots with five-under 67 for 18-under-par 270.The 33-year-old, who only recently returned to golf after a brief stint in the mid-1990s, landed the biggest payday of his career -- 420,000 dollars -- for his second straight victory after last week's Sail Open.Japan's Kiyota carded 71 for 15-under-par 273, tied for second with Australian Greg Chalmers and Englishman Graeme Storm at the par-72 DLF Golf and Country Club.Triple major winner Vijay Singh closed with 69 for nine-under-par 279 as his late charge ran out of steam.World number five Adam Scott, the pre-tournament favourite, finished well down the leaderboard with seven-under-par 281 despite finishing with a flourish ...

Johnnie Walker Classic - Day 3 Wrap
    2008-03-02 02:26:01
Unheralded Japanese golfer Taichiro Kiyota shot a 5-under-par 67 to take the lead Saturday in the third round of the Johnnie Walker Classic.Kiyota, who eagled the par-5 sixth, had a 14-under-par, 202 total heading into the final round. He's one stroke ahead of New Zealand's Mark Brown (64) and India's Jyoti Randhawa (68), playing on his home course."This is unbelievable. I'm obviously very excited to be on top of the leaderboard. It's the first time for me to be in such a position," said the 27-year-old Kiyota, who hasn't won in five years as a pro. "I may not be able to sleep well tonight."Vijay Singh shot a 69 and is tied for 10th overall in the tournament jointly sanctioned by the European and Asian Tours.Brown, who at one point in his career gave up golf and took up an office job for three years, won on the Asian Tour last week."I had the ability, but I just didn't show it the first time round. I gave it up for three years and worked," Brown said. "Then I began getting an itch to s...

Johnnie Walker Classic - Day 2 Wrap
    2008-02-29 19:04:32
India's Shiv Kapur fired a 7-under par 65 on Friday to take a share of the lead with Unho Park of Australia after two rounds of the Johnnie Walker Classic. Kapur sank an eagle and five birdies to log a two-round aggregate of 10-under par 134 and join Park, whose 6-under par 66 in the second round at the DLF Golf and Country Club featured eight birdies and two bogies. In a tightly-packed leaderboard, world No. 5 Adam Scott and three-time major winner Vijay Singh were within striking distance of the lead, but Ryder Cup stars Colin Montgomerie of Scotland and England's Ian Poulter missed the cut at the $2.5 million (€1.66 million) event. Japan's Taichiro Kiyota and Indian Jyoti Randhawa were one stroke behind the leaders, with Scott in a four-way tie for the fifth spot at eight-under par 136 along with Spaniard Jose Manuel Lara and England pair Phillip Archer and Graeme Storm...Read the complete golf news story ...

Johnnie Morton Tests Positive for Steroids
    2007-06-14 18:30:00
With the recent string of fighters testing positive for a large variety of drugs, it came as no surprise to me when I heard news of Johnnie Morton testing positive for anabolic steroids, according to the California State Athletic Commission. Johnnie Morton made his MMA debut on June 2 at K-1’s Dynamite!! USA event and was brutally knocked out by opponent, Bernard Ackah, in just 38 seconds of the first round. Morton underwent a pre-fight urinalysis and results came back positive with a "very elevated T/E ratio,” in layman terms, very high testosterone. His T/E ratio was 83.9, opposed to 6, the normal industry standard for an athlete. The former NFL wide receiver refused to take a post-fight drug test and placed on indefinite suspension and as a result has had his purse withheld. CSAC Executive Director Armando Garcia has given Morton ten days to explain his reasons for refusing to take the post-fight test. Morton faces a possible revocation of his fighting license and a maximum fi...

    Johnnie Morton was juicing
    2007-06-14 08:03:04
Johnnie boy tested positive for elevated levels of epitestosterone before his fight...or his...I don't know what to call it. Before he was knocked the %$#& out on June 2nd.Tests on a pre-fight urine sample collected June 1 showed Morton's epitestosterone level was "more than 10 times the normal level for an athlete," commission official William Douglas said.Since stepping into a haymaker that laid his ass out in the first 38 seconds of his MMA debut, Morton has fallen off the face of the earth. He refused to take a post fight drug test...apparently forgetting that he took a test the day before the fight. They frown on this and he is indefinitely suspended and the $100,000 he was to get for his time is being held."We've heard no phone call, no letter, no nothing," Douglas said. "I hope he makes the effort to contact us."
