Kashmir poised for direct Delhi rule
    2008-07-08 21:23:36
Occupied Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad resigned on Monday without facing a trust vote in the state assembly, which became necessary when a key ally of the Congress party-led government parted ways recently over his handling of a Hindu pilgrimage to an ancient temple.Mr Azad’s decision has paved the way for the recently appointed Governor N.N. Vohra to impose New Delhi’s direct rule in the disputed state. Elections are due in there in November and the move to impose direct rule is being seen as a Congress party ploy to influence the course.Press Trust of India said Mr Azad along with his ministers and MLAs arrived at the newly constructed state Assembly building in Srinagar where other party legislators gathered for the one-day session during which the chief minister was to seek a trust vote. The 59-year-old Mr Azad in his speech, highlighting the achievement of his government, gave enough indications that it was his farewell address, PTI said. As he ended it Mr A...

Whoa, let the sun beat down upon my faceAnd stars to fill my dreamI am a traveler of both time and spaceTo be where I have beenT' sit with elders of a gentle raceThis world is seldom seenTh' talk of days for which they sit and wait; All will be revealedTalk and song from tongues of lilting graceWhose sounds caress my earBut not a word I heard could I relateThe story was quite clearWhoa-hoh, whoa-wa-ohOooh, oh baby, I been flyin'Lord, yeah, mama, there ain't no denyin'Oh, oooh yes, I've been flyingMama, mama, ain't no denyin', no denyin'Oh, all I see turns to brownAs the sun burns the groundAnd my eyes fill with sandAs I scan this wasted landTryin' to find, tryin' to find where I belongOh, pilot of the storm who leaves no traceLike thoughts inside a dreamHeed the path that led me to that placeYellow desert screamMy Shangri-La beneath the summer moon;I will return againSure as the dust that floats high in JuneWhen movin' through KashmirOh, father of the four winds, fill my...

    2008-02-18 00:39:08

This time around, inspired by the movie Darjeeling Limited, one of our correspondents decided to visit India first hand and write his experiences of the place. We are going to be publishing his views on the beautiful country here. Next international cinema will going to be in Kashmir says RAHUL
    2007-12-18 04:02:00
It was an amazing experience. The army and police were fully cooperative. But we never needed them Rahul told IANS.Rahul Bose has just finished shooting in the bitter winter of Jammu and Kashmir for Santosh Sivan's second Hindi film "Dastaan" and predicts that the valley is soon going to be a favourite shooting spot for international cinema. My prediction about Kashmir: with the kind of vehicles, hotels, food and tourist infrastructure that it now boasts of, Kashmir, according to me, is going to be the next destination for international cinema - like Morocco became seven years ago."The last time I had been to Kashmir I was four. I had no recollection of the valley. We shot in freezing bleakness. The weather was very Russian. It was like adventures of Narnia coming to life. It was all white with snow and certainly gloomy, but the shapes of the chinar trees covered with snow transports you to another world."It was also reported that I was driving when the car skidded. Not true at all. I ...
