We can talk all day about who the Phillies should get, about what holes they have in their line-up. But the bottom line is that the biggest hole is in their heart. They're not playing with any tenacity. They're not aggressive on the base paths, they're not getting pissed off when they strike out. They're settling for being one and five. ONE AND FIVE. This team was predicted to contend for the pennant, and they're tied with a team that hasn't lead in any of their at bats this season.All winter we said, "The Phillies have to get out of the gate quickly. They need to make April count. They can't fall behind New York or Atlanta." What have they done? They've fallen out of the starting blocks, playing like crap in April, and are falling behind...New York and Atlanta.They need to play every game like it's their last. They need to play every game like it'll be the one that makes or breaks their season. You know why? Because every game can make or break their season.Every team wins a third of their games, every team loses a third. It's that middle third that makes or breaks a team. It's that middle 54 games that can make a team a World Series contender, or the 100 game losing laughing stock of the league.The Phillies missed the Wild Card last year by three games. Three games that was one game before an abysmal final series against the Marlins. Four wins out of 54.And as I write that, Jimmy Rollins hits into an inning ending double play with the bases loaded. That should make him angry, that should make the whole team angry. It should make them play harder. They need to build a fired up terminal velocity of spit and spikes. Pine tar and pissed off.Cole Hamels has the killer instinct. Man on third with one out, holding on to a one run lead. Throws a nasty breaking ball with a full count for the strike out.
